Jbandkb1, Toppik is fine during chemo. Go for it.

StefLove, So happy that Toppik is working so well for you. Hang in there. You look great. The taxol isn't nearly as hard on your hair. And I have to wonder if the old follicles are the ones that aren't protected--but the young and middle-aged ones are--if perhaps you've done most of your shedding. Does that make sense? (BTW, I had the most dramatic diffuse thinning in the same spots you did, but they were less dramatic on Taxol. It's hard to get a perfect fit since every head is different. Just do the best you can and try not to worry!)

Also, It brow pencil combined with Perfect Brow by Cameo are great for drawing brows in. Draw in the basic shape of your brows with a few strokes of It pencil, then lightly dust along those lines with the Perfect Brow till they look filled in. I got pretty good at it by the end (the combo worked best).

WP, try Lumigan or Latisse, esp. if you can get your doc to write a scrip specifically for chemotherapy-related hair loss. My lashes are now better than they were prechemo and my insurance covered it at a higher than normal copay, but still good by comparison. And once my brows started to fill in it didn't take long at all. (I also have the same funny hair growing in. There was one spot where I must have really messed the capping up where an actual tuft has sprouted. Like a big tuft. Ayayayaye.) You look fantastic. Won't be long now.

    StefLove:

Hi I use the hair powder, and I use hair illusion. I only put it in when I'm out. By hair really is not that bad, but it makes me feel better!! It's on Amazon, Hair Illusions.  39.99. In each color. It's real hair, but it works!!  Hope this helps!!

StefLove, you look great after your AC! Your hair is so long & pretty :-) It's amazing what that Toppix can do! I hope you can pull through Taxol without much more loss.

Whitney, you look great & look at all that regrowth! By the way, I thought your lashes looked fantastic. I can't imagine what they must look like if that is 50%!! I've always had sparse and wimpy eyelashes. Maybe that's why I still look normal?

I can't remember who asked....but L-Glutamine... I took the caplet form - 1,000 mg twice per day.... I think the powder form is preferable. I started with the caplet but stayed with it since I didn't experience any issues - just some minor tingling in my fingers & toes occasionally.

Beatcancer- incoming hair is a mix of that strange baby fuzz blonde (which is why I think a lot of it is hard for me to see) and brown. Ironically enough, I just started noticing grays right before chemo started (I'm 27, so I supposed it had to happen some time).

Angiel - They were super long and had a nice curl! Below is a picture of me pre-cancer - and those are my real lashes, with great mascara! Right now, I have gaps on the top lids where there are lashes missing, and the bottom lashes are super thin.

For what it's worth, my eye brows grew back fast and looked better than they did before chemo!

So Alibeths, how did your hair hold up? Were you happy with your results? I know the AC is so hard, but I want us to encourage other newbies or future wearers that it is doable, so I hope you are happy that you chose the caps.

I am almost 4 weeks PFC now and I bought hair extensions and a hair topper last Friday. I have only worn the topper - last Friday night - but I love the pieces and will incorporate them more as my hair slows in the shedding process. The hair topper piece is what I am most excited about now. It is a piece made to rest on the crown of your head, from human hair, with a part (blown out to your choosing) and anchored by 2 small clips. I will attach a picture of me wearing the piece after they put it on me at the hair store. I went to a store in NYC that came highly recommended by my girlfriend who is on TV locally here who has purchased several pieces from this store. They cut, color and basically make your hairpiece to fit. I showed them pics of what I used to look like and they worked wonders. And the price - less than the wigs I was looking at before deciding on the cold caps. I literally was pushing back the tears when I checked out because I was so happy. In over 7 months, Friday night was the closest I have looked like myself. image

Sula, OMG - so funny! Hmmmm, "tits in a box" ...just saying that makes me bust out laughing. Mine are coming off on August 17. I was thinking of having a bye-bye boobie party........ Have you heard this one? What do you call a boob with no nipple? Pointless. I'm thinking of reconstruction at this point with no nipples and my husband just loves that joke..... Gotta love finding the humor in bad situations. :)

About to do chemo tx #4 today - AC - and just wondering when you cold cap users started to lose other body hair - like your eyelashes and eyebrows? My other body hair don't seem to be growing as fast so less shaving required (yaaay for that!). The hair on my head seems to be holding up well so far - my oncologist thought I was wearing a wig (he'd never had a patient use cold caps in the 20+ years he's been working). Thanks in advance for responding!

I will be starting AC on Monday and nervous of the unknown of how it will effect me. Listening to all of your stories and seeing some pictures from you ladies definitely gives me hope about my hair. I have a 3 year old and a 11 month old so hoping I can still look like mommy through all of this. I love all the advice you give each other I think that's more helpful then the Drs. Congrats to all how have finished chemo. For those who have posted pictures you look beautiful!!! Hoping I get the same results.

Have any of you ladies heard about staying away from family or not using the same bathroom while going through chemo because somehow the chemo can be transferred to others through fluids

hi all, I am 2 months into cold capping, I am metastatic, the chemo is working, I don't know how long I will be doing this. I wrote a detailed account of my experience hoping to help others considering this. Take a look, feel free to share if you like or leave a comment. This group helped me so much to get started. I'm on weekly abraxane. http://www.samladies.com/cold-capping-with-metastatic-breast-cancer/

Alibeths - Yes, I hired Susan from Cold Cap Therapy Midwest. She doesn't work for PCC but is somewhat like a rep. I was able to get my caps from her & she took care of all the administration details too. She did all of my sessions except for 2. I ended up giving her my leftover supplies to pass on to others.

    angiel, the hair looks amazing!!!

Chloe, all through AC I kept my arm hair. I usually shave my arm hair (the damn dark haired Italian/Greek in me) but for the heck of it during AC I let it grow to see if it fell out on its own. I actually just re-shaved my arms a few days ago, about to go into taxol #2. It didnt seem like it had any thoughts of falling out. My leg hair I think I last shaved around AC #2. I haven't had to shave it since and starting to get a little stubble very sporadically. The hair on my face (upper lip and side burns...again...thank you Greek and Italian parents!) has been completely gone for awhile now. Is there any way to make sure that NEVER comes back?? My nether regions almost completely fell out too, there's maybe 50-100 hairs hanging on for dear life all through AC. Eyebrows and eyelashes have remained but are def starting to get thinner now while on taxol.

It's funny what hair decides to stay and what decides to jump ship.

Alibeths - It looks like you found the other forum (Life After....) as I saw you posted ;-) The capping services were $400 each chemo infusion - regardless if we were done in 6.5 hours or 8 hours.
