Renee - if it gets too sore, would they ever consider giving you a few days break? Sorry to have you're in pain over this.
Micheleboots - when do you start rads? From what I can see, I'll be starting in March.

Hi Jen,
Sorry I am slow to respond about blood work. I see my med onc ever since radiation ended in mid June. Every three months. And each time they draw blood. The sample is sent for two tests: a comprehensive metabolic panel with EGFR and a CA15-3.
The first checks lots of things like glucose, urea, creatinine, sodium, potassium, chloride, carbon dioxide, calcium, protein, albumin, globulin, albumin.globulin ratio, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, AST and ALT.
The second is a tumor marker. LOTS of doctors do not so them. It looks for certain proteins shed by active tumors (mets) and is not considered absolute evidence of "the presence or absence of disease."
I just got a copy of my recent results in the mail, that's why I know the data just now.
I told DH there were 2 good things about it... one, all levels were normal and two, I forgot I was waiting for it so I must be less nervous!

Re PICC line: Were you told not to vacuum or shovel? My nurse said to avoid lifting more than 5 pounds for first few days but that was all. I'm in a BC exercise trial and we all lift weights - I don't over do it, but I don't give that arm special treatment either. Wondering about that now...

So, I will make sure I ask him about that on Wednesday. And actually, it is my first official 3 month visit since I finished rads in November. Thanks!

I read about vacuuming and shoveling on the threads, not my doc...since I hate to shovel and vacuum I used that excuse when I could...i did do a little of both, after all I have cats, kids and a husband, vacuuming could not always be avoided...but I did take it easy...I also had to shovel as well but didn't lift to much at a time..

Michele, yea for you. Isn't it a great feeling to be finished with chemo? The last one I had I was so excited to go, knowing that it was the last. I am 5 weeks out and finally have some energy back. I guess rads will take care of that in about a week, but now I am really feeling good. I am still retaining fluid and the Med Onc gave me some more Lasix today and told me to take them every day. My toes hurt and I expect them to be blown out, like a wiener in the microwave, every time I take my shoes off. Boy what a picture. lol
The saga of the plumbing problem continues. We got the leak at the toilet fixed and we thought all was well. The carpet dried quickly and it didn't look like there were any stains on the living room ceiling. However, on Monday when I got home from work water was again dripping from the ceiling. I went upstairs and the toilet area and rest of bathroom was dry and no problems there. Anyway it got worse everyday and it just spread out over the ceiling, we had to cover everything and what a mess it was. Finally my DH went up to investigate what was going on in the attic, well we had a busted pipe and I guess it had started out as a trickle and then became a gusher. The insurance man came today and he said we would get a check in the mail in about a week. At least we don't have to replace the carpet or any furniture. It could have always been worse.

I do wish breast cancer was only a disease of older women. It is too cruel for you youngsters to have to go through all of this. I admire all of you with children, jobs, parents, whatever ... all of you who endure and carry on.And hooray for Michelleboots!!! You made it.

All - tomorrow is my last day of radiation. Woo-HOO! A little sore, but not too bad. Just tired and ready to cha cha across the finish line.
Who knows when it's safe to color hair after chemo? I heard that if you do it too soon, it can fry and fall out. Is that a tale or is it true? Also looking for some kind of industrial strength hair product that will calm this do the heck down. It is so weird - pokes up all over the place. Bed head all day.

Juanelle - wow, sorry to hear about the pipe. Time has certainly gone fast....I can't believe it's already been five weeks since you finished chemo.
Alicia - you are beautiful. I see the Uncle Fester look myself whenever I look in the mirror. I keep reminding myself that it's only temporary.

Mary - I recall them telling me at the wig shop at the hospital that I can't colour for a few months and that is depositing colour only - no highlights. I think they said I'd have to wait a year for highlights. I can't remember exactly because I was - and still am - in "hair fallout" mode when they mentioned this. There is a thread called Hair Hair Hair and I'm sure someone on there would know for sure.

Mary, congrats on finishing rads. I am 6 down and 27 to go. I know it will be over before I know it. Hope you are feeling better and all the pain has gone away.
Sherri, I finally lost all my hair on my head. The last of it fell out after my last tx. I still have eye lashes and brows, so I don't think I will lose them. I do have fuzz all over my head some of it is about 1/4 inch long, but most is probably about 1/8. It doesn't have any color, so maybe I will be a blond. I think it will be all gray.
Alicia, I also think I look like Uncle Fester. Round head and all I need is that light bulb, especially since I have started rads and work at a nuclear power plant. Maybe I don't even need the bulb to glow in the dark.
