I'm STILL not sure what I'll be taking! First onc said Arimidex; no oncotype test. Second onc said definitely oncotype test; also tested for metabolizing Tamox. Even though I'm post menop. he said if I metabolize Tamox, that is more tolerable. He also said there are some questions about Arimidex study that was done to compare women taking tamox v. women taking Arimidex. Evidently they did not test the tomax women for metabolizing it. In other words, Arimidex may have appeared to work better, when in fact some % of women in the study taking Tamox may not have done well because they may not have been metabolizing it. First I had heard of that. All I can do is pray I make the right choice of onc .... and pray that the onc is making the right choice too.

Janet: Ugh... I hate making these decisions. It seems there are so many options and opinions that all you *can* do is pray on it. I never heard of testing for metabolizing Tamox.... I don't know if I was tested.
Prayersareanswered: I'll be praying for you tomorrow for your surgery!
Time for PJs and Chamomile tea. And I have to clean the kitchen since DH made dinner. And he's a messy cook!

Giving it to God- for me that means quit trying to control the "outcome" Worrying and fretting, obsessing, pontificating, staying in my head does not change most things so when I have a worry I just try to say God I am worried about this.
In the big picture I would like to raise my children and see them grown, I would like to "fill in the blank" sooooo Lord However you get me there is your path and I am open to walking that path. So when I have a worry like should I take Tamox or should I get a scan, I say God going back and forth in my head about it is not helping me you know my final wishes and what I want out of life please lead me down the path that allows me to get there your way. When I let go and give it back to God it allows me to be open to the path instead of struggling and pushing a certain way.
It allows me to feel more instead of think more.
Does any of this make sense?
One of the best books I ever read is "the power of now" by Eckhart Tolle, even my DH loved it.
If you have not read think about it and it is one we could really talk about here.

Michelle ~ thanks for that. I now need to "Give it back to God" because in my earlier post today, I am getting worried, paranoid and not feeling that I can trust my med team. The rad beam on Friday started to hurt and I read somewhere that it is too strong, however, my query was why it didn't hurt before I complained to rad onc about their breach in protocol on Wednesday?
Thanks for pointing out the book, I'll see if they have it in the library

Thank you Michelle,
I started this thread as a Novena prayer chain.... wanting to let others know what a novena is, and who is the patron of cancer. I encourage you to do the novena's here Like Nancy used to. ( I miss her so)

One thing I will say Paula, is that no matter what I do not believe your techs would do anything malicious. They may not be the sharpest tools in the shed, are lacking in patient perspective, but it is not my first thought. There are absolute records on how all machines are used, sort of like a memory bank. That's just something I feel in my heart.
I know you are having a lot of issues pulling you in different directions and causing doubts. I would take it one thing at a time. Such as any more shortness of breath go to the E.R., and make sure you write your questions down for the Rad Onc tomorrow. Will he or she be there in person tomorrow, or will you have to go to another facility to meet with him/her?

Theresa,
That you for reminding us about prayersareanswered's surgery tomorrow. (Not sure if she will pop by or not,) but we are wishing you the best, and Janet had a lovely prayer earlier that was for our Dr.'s and medical teams that they be guided by the hand of God. I pray all goes well for you, and that you have an uneventful surgery. You will be in our prayers.

Traci ~ I just finished talking to my sis#3 in Toronto. She felt the same way you did. I think that my rad onc will be at a different facility tomorrow, it may not be a bad idea to get a 2nd opinion from the one on duty tomorrow. (oh how I hate to make this choice as well). And your idea is also good about going to the facility that my own rad onc will be at.
I will pray hard to ask God to lead and take over. As for right now, I'm leaning toward a 2nd pair of eyes and opinion.

Paula,
I'm glad. I know this has been really tough for you, and you need to feel comfortable with your health care team, especially when you are having concerns.

Estepp,
Is Nancy ok? I got worried when you said that you missed her.

Ellie,
I just looked back to see the evolution of Laura's thread, and there you are, on the first page (or was it the second?) It was fun to see you back in the beginning and here now.

Theresa and All,
Do you mind explaining the 15 mysteries of the Rosary? I'm sure this is huge, so can we start with the origin? Is a decade considered 10 beads of prayer (Hail Mary?)
and Theresa, we talked about my love of Nature, and how I look at Mountains and see God. I see God's work absolutely, but it's deeper than that for me. There is a Buddhist meditation where you inhale and say Mountain to yourself, then Strong as you exhale. Can you share with me how Nature is integrated with the Franciscan Order? I am very interested.
and one more...Paula, Iook forwards to your explanation as to the purpose of 9 days for a Novena.
I actually have one more, but I gotta look back...

Hello sisters,
I just found another thing that perhaps you ladies will vote for. It is a FREE call in meeting (via the telephone or cell phone!!!). No loggin on to any website. Everybody will be calling to a U.S. phone number (provided by this company). And it allows 150 callers to call in with a special code number.
Will explain more later. DH calling!

Dear all,
back online after a wonderful weekend, thank you so much for your prayers. I thought this weekend before surgery was going to be a nightmare, but thanks to our prayers, it turned out I had a great time.
On Friday night, I attended the healing mass at St Anthony's church in Falls Church, VA. You were all in my prayers and my thoughts. If some of you have never attended a healing mass, here is how it works, at least the ones organized by the Arlington diocese in Northern Virginia (Father Grinell). Before mass, we are asked to write down our intentions and put them in a box. Then the Priest blesses the intentions along with the oil. After mass, we would come to the Priest or to one of the healing Ministers. We tell them what we would like to pray for and we pray together before he anoints us with the oil (which is different from the Sacrament of Anointment though). I asked the Priest to pray for a cure. During mass on Friday, two persons shared their miracle stories. One very young woman was diagnosed with leukemia back in April. The prognosis was really bad. But as soon as she heard that, she asked all of her friends to pray for her, and all of her friends asked all of their friends to pray for her..she said she was surprised to hear that even non Christian friends have started to pray for her. She went through chemo, transfusion and everything but there she was, a few months later, standing strong, talking to us with such faith, strength and hope...truly inspiring. I spoke with her at the end of mass telling her how wonderful her story was, I told her I myself am going through breast cancer and will be undergoing surgery this Wednesday, she told me "Stick with HIM, He does wonderful things". Then she asked my name and said she would pray for me. You should have seen her, sisters, so strong, so full of life.
Prayers are answered my lovely sisters, God bless you all !

Prayersareanswered,
I'm so glad you had such a great healing mass. I'm sure this will give you just what you need today. Are you getting ready?
0 -
prayersareanswered: thank you for sharing about the healing Mass. I'm still sorry that I missed it. But, d'oh! I got your surgery date incorrect! I thought you had surgery today, but it's Wednesday.
See how my memory is lately? I need to write EVERYTHING down!
Traci - I'll see what I can find and try to post after work and allergy shots.

and to continue on my wonderful week end, yesterday, we went to visit the grotto of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, MD. It is one of the oldest replicas of the revered French shrine in America.
You may check the history on grottooflourdesemmitsburg.com
Sisters, maybe we should all go there one day and spend some time praying together. I am sure you will all love this place.
Surgery is on Wednesday. I feel nervous now, but I am glad I have you here. My parents and all my family are 20,000 miles from here. You feel like my closest family her now because I find strength in you all, I find hope in your kind words and my faith is growing and growing with your prayers. thank you all and thank GOD !

Awww...
So where is your family from? Where does 20,000 miles land one? Emmitsburg, MD might be a perfect place. There are how many of us in the area? 4 or 5?

Today and tomorrow, can you take some time to be very aware of your breathing? Take some deep breaths and release any fears or tension and turn it over to God. JanetinVirginia has a great prayer a few pages back by now, from yesterday, for our MD's to be divinely guided. You may not want to share here, so don't feel pressured at all. Do you plan on having a mastectomy? Do I remember it correctly as bi-lateral Mx? I had a bi-lateral last year, almost to the date of yours. If you have ANY questions, I can give you info., as well as others here, I am sure. And remember no pressure to share, just skip over my questions.

Good morning sisters....
I'm feeling a bit apprehensive this morning...
I think I may have a UTI...are those common during treatment? I go in this morning for labs and I'm afraid my WBC is pretty low if I have this infection. I should be able to get something to fix it right up, but I'm still just bummed...
Still gonna try to get in my walk/rosary this am...
Peace and prayers,
Tori

Torigirl,
You will be in my thoughts today, and I know you will be in good hands. Hang in there, and I was literally just thinking about you and checked before I turned off the computer.

why 9 days? from the Catholic encyclopedia.. (too long to copy)

Tori: Yes to UTI. I had that issue too and they put me on antibiotics. For me, it was probably from all the lower intestinal issues I had during treatment.
Prayersareanswered: Yes, I've been there many times! A few pages back, I gave a link to it. They offer healing Masses too. Just a beautiful and inspiring place.
Thanks Apple... you beat me to it.

Esteep and all Catholic breast cancer sisters: I have to let you know this. I am Jewish, however a dear friend of mine sent me a beautiful mass card when I had my mast 10-30-09. It is a "Our Lady of Lourdes Pray For us, Special Masses for Healing". To this day I have it on my fireplace Mantel. I will not remove it. All get well cards have been removed but that one.
The same person also gave me a "Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us card for my wallet before my surgery. This card will never be removed from my wallet. Of the items that went with me to the hospital were my insurance card, the Our Lady of Lourdes card and my driver's license. Oct 30 will be my first cancervsary and I look at them often. From a Jewish breast cancer sister.
Hugs,
