Thank you, tld2017! I hope you find the stories full of hope! One day soon I'll share how I got the idea for the book and title. They were Holy Spirit-inspired, if I may say. Have a wonderful weekend!

Last evening I went to a showing of the new film "Santiago: The Camino Within". I highly recommend it. It was a Fandango showing at a local theater - 1 hr 45 minutes. I don't go to many movies, so not sure how or where to find out where it may be available now. I learned about it through my church. Bishop Hying, of the diocese of Madison, WI, has a significant part in the film.

Speaking of things worth watching ... today while on the treadmill i stumbled across this interview regarding the Shroud of Turin. I'm only halfway through it, but assure you it's well worth your time!

My sister lives in Europe and she is in Transylvania for Easter with friends. Honestly, Transylvania sounds more like a Halloween trip to me. She has already been to Easter mass and said that the church they went to was built in 941. It blows my mind the age of some of these churches. I love being with my congregation but how wonderful to experience mass in a church of that age that has seen so much history!

Happy Easter everyone! Christ is Risen!

This Easter morning we sang "I know that my Redeemer lives"....text Samuel Medley (1738-1799)......"He lives, and gives me daily breath" (3rd stanza)......I love the old hymns.

The priest today reminded us that Easter Vigil Mass is actually the greatest liturgy of the year. Maybe, hopefully next year.

He is risen, indeed! Happy Easter, all!!

I had my lumpectomy Tuesday and am grateful I felt well enough to attend Mass yesterday! It was a beautiful day by Michigan standards, lol.

Wondering if any of you have had an ALND and your experience? My lumpectomy went well, except for the failed lymphoscintigraphy, which resulted in no SNB. I'll meet with the surgeon Tuesday and discuss next steps. Perhaps the lymphoscintigrahy can be repeated to locate the sentinel nodes, but I'm guessing an axillary lymph node dissection will be recommended, though I hope not.

    redemptivesufferer,

I had lumpectomy with one node removed. The surgeon had planned to take 3 lymph nodes, but only one node lit-up during surgery, so that is all she took. That one node was negative, and there was no further discussion to go back in to get two more. Three years after my lumpectomy, I was diagnosed Stage 4. I'm not sure if my treatment plan would have changed if a positive node had been found, but clearly maybe. It seems to me that would be a good question to ask your MO or surgeon.....beyond getting a good understanding of side effects that can follow taking out nodes. I did develop lymphedema of the breast, but not the arm. I got good resolution of the lymphedema after seeing a lymphedema specialist (OT) several times, who taught me how to do lymph system massage.

    Weninwi,
Thank you for the advice; I'll definitely ask about that. I have so many questions right now. There were discrepancies on my PET, that even has the surgeon asking (after I brought it to her attention) if the results were accurate. There were 2 tumors this time, which from what I've read, multifocal is more likely to have advanced to lymph nodes. With this recurrence, it feels like the visits, scans, etc ... are so protracted. Just wish I could get on with treatment.

I'm so sorry that you advanced to Stage IV after such an early diagnosis (though I know it's always a possibility and something I consider often) but it's heartening to hear your lymphedema is under control. That's a significant concern of mine, but in the end I guess I'll do what I need to do. I hope you're feeling well!

May you have a blessed Easter season!

    ~ Kim

    Kim,

I did ALND and my surgeon took 20(!) Levels 1 and 2 lymph nodes. I did not develop lymphadema but that was just my experience. I cannot say why I've been so fortunate.

    Happy Easter to all!

ElaineTherese, that's amazing and incredible that you didn't develop lymphadema. I saw the breast surgeon Thurs., and she informed me she wouldn't go back in to remove lymph nodes. Mammaprint was done, indicating I'm high risk for recurrence, yet my cancer IS a recurrence (I think that somewhat invalidates the test.) Anywho, not checking my nodes leaves me unsettled as we begin to plan treatment.

    Thanks for your response!

I'm looking forward to attending daily Mass starting tomorrow; a recent layoff has afforded me extra time to go!

Anyone still around? I'm due to start chemo (Enhertu) Feb 27 due to progression. It will be my first chemo. I'm in my fifth year of MBC. My oncologist initially gave me a 4-5 year prognosis. I think I've grown in my faith, but still very easily over come with fear and anxiety. I need to make a decision about chemo dose - 100% or 80% - my oncologist is agreeable with either.

I'm still here, weninwi. Many prayers for you as you begin Enhertu. You could begin at 100% and see what the SEs look like. If they're too much, you could reduce to 80%.

I'd like to think that I'm making progress with my faith, but I, too, suffer from fear and anxiety from time to time.

    elainetherese,

Oh thank you for your response. Support from others in the faith is so helpful! As you suggest, I think I will start at 100% and reduce to 80% if s/e too much. I just get wound-up in second guessing myself after I think I've made a decision.

@weninwi How are you? I was thinking of you the other day since I haven't caught any of your posts. Wishing you all the best as you start Enhertu. It seems like many women's cancers respond nicely to Enhertu and I wish you the same.

Many times I felt my faith was being tested especially after each recurrence. I think it all this has strengthened my faith and I have finally realized it's God's plan and not mine. It's only natural for all of us to experience some level of fear and anxiety especially as we tread in new waters.

I hope your first treatment went well yesterday and the SE's will be manageable.

    cookie54,

I received the sacrament for healing on Monday and had my first infusion yesterday (Tues). My husband and I arrived early at the hospital and happened to meet some relatives who were just leaving. We hadn't seen them in a awhile and since we all had some time we went to lunch with them in the cafeteria. We had a good visit that relieved some of my stress and added a bright spot in the day. A gift from the Lord - letting me know he is a walking with me. My infusion went well and so far today no significant side effects. Thanks so much for your support.

@weninwi So happy to hear you received comfort from God and your family for your infusion. Definitely a gift to you and a sign to let you know he is always by your side. Well wishes for today.
