We just finished Christmas dinner an hour ago (we celebrate on Christmas Eve, germano-scandi style). I have to say that when you are all anti-cancer good most of the time, it is especially great to pig out on meat and sweets accompanied by nice wine.

You know your kids are grown when YOU are the first one up on Christmas day.  It's been like that for a few years now, but I am still not used to it.  I used to have to tell them no opening gifts until daylight.  If they were up sooner, they could LOOK but not touch what was under the tree.  This tactic usually bought me an extra one half to one hour of sleep on Christmas morning.  Yesterday, we had to rouse the final kid out of bed at 10:00.  My how times have changed.

This year, one gift I got was 8lb. hand weights, graduating up from 5 lb. ones that were next to impossible just this past summer.  Boy, do I like those signs that I continue to improve.

Glad to hear (and see!) that many Middies were able to have a joyous day
with family. Last year, I was doing badly (in the middle of treatment)
and I remember that I was given a few days off during Christmas week.
Just having those few days off made all the difference to whether my
holidays were entirely ruined or not, so I hope everyone is enjoying the break of no doctors.

OMG Elimar I have enough trouble with 1# weights though I do have 3# (well DH's really). You must have some shoulder muscles. Been eating your Popeye spinach??

We had way too much food for 3 of us but plenty of leftovers so sent frozen stuff home with DD. Had chicken tetrazzini Christmas Eve combo of a couple of recipes. Overnight eggnog French toast Christmas morning. About 2 pm had turkey breast, ambrosia both made from scratch. Then bought dressing, mac/cheese, gravy and really good cranberry relish. Right mix of easy. The Butterball breast was just perfect and I will buy that again next year. Albertsons had a buy 1/get 1 so they ended up $1.50/lb. Not bad. Froze carcass and other nasty bits to make stock. It was a good day. DD and DH had lots of time together which they do not get so much. I get more cause I go over there some. She left about 4 and house is very quiet today. Both had to work today but DH may get off early; I think he's over some hours from earlier in week.

I hope everyone's Christmas celebration was joyous. Wishing good health to all us middies (some of us a bit beyondWinkingmiddie). Off to make chocolate pudding with the heavy cream that is about to expire though we may expire from cholesterol overload. Dessert is the one thing I did not make or buy - well if you do not count boxes of biscotti from the market. The only good thing about them is they take a bit to eat and they don't go bad quickly.

Oh come on...don't make me start worrying again! More than 24 hours and no posts???? Okay...I'll take lead. I posted this on the BCO Chatters FB page the Saturday before Christmas.........

I told hub last night that I had lost my Christmas mojo. Had a great time weeks ago doing lots of shopping, but last night looked at my list and felt it was short for one of my dd's and her hub and son. I planned to go out today and rectify that. DD called me this morning and I mentioned I was going out. She said I was nuts, crazy day...blah blah...and I said I had to for some special people. She said "Mom, if you mean me or Josh or David, please don't" Yeah, whatever So I go to Target and my phone rings. She asks where I am, I say Target, and she says "Perfect. Josh and I decided we do want something. First of all, if there's anything in your cart right now for us, put it back. Then we want you to find someone in line and pay for their things. That's what we want from you." So what did I do? Duh..I started crying right there in the aisle of Target of course! Actually had a hard time finding someone in Target to buy for but finally did, although very small. But then I went to Kohl's for some things for me and found the perfect recipient - a mom with three little kids. Ladies...when I tell you that her reaction made my holiday, I am not exaggerating one bit. She hugged me so much people were gawking! And the cashier loved it too. It was awesome and the best gift my daughter ever gave ME to let me do that for someone. And it gave me my Christmas mojo back, in spades and then some. Also, while in Kohl's I texted dd to see if g'son needed anything at all because they were having such a great sale and I had a 30% coupon. She said that the hugs and kisses and giggles I give him are his best presents from me (he's 14 months). I can't post this on my regular FB wall because I don't want other family to see. I am soooo glad I have you guys where I can post this. I am immensely blessed and I do not take that for granted for one minute, please believe that. My love to you all. Merry Christmas

(back to present) That truly was the best Christmas gift I have ever been given, even though it was supposedly a gift for someone else. To know that I raised someone with that type value system? Priceless and then some.

2TA,  That was a holiday display on the cruise ship I sailed on.  Most of the stuff that is not lighting is something whipped up by the chefs on board.  There was a little clip on the ship t.v. that showed them putting it together in fast-mo.

Having cruised last year over Christmas week I can say without lying that the decorations on the ship were almost the best thing next to the food, the sun, the sea, the massages, the food, the heated chaise lounges, the pools, the booze, the food, the zip line, the good looking men, the shows, and the food.

    Hear! Hear!  Good summary Eph.

    ------------

Seems like a while since I was on a tirade.  Well, one of the same ol', same ol' ones keeps cropping up.  I have been on this board for over four years now, which is not long.  The thing is, I  see very little improvement in the understanding of the drugs we are given as B/C patients.  So many are still in the dark about SEs and drug interactions (some of which can actually cut the effectiveness of what we take to prevent recurrence.)  Most doctors DO know this info., but fail to let us in on their secrets.  Most pkg. inserts that come in pharmaceuticals DO outline some effects (but that print is very small and not many of us get that when out Rx is filled.  Some pharmacies DO give a computer printout with some information on the SEs, but not much in the way of interactions.

It seems like unless everyone has the time to do their own internet research and has the ability to process all the info., we are kind of still in the Dark Ages about our medicines.  As far as I know, there is no awareness program to fix this state of things.  The conventional thinking is that too much disclosure would only cause unnecessary panic and scare people.  I can only say that the true story behind some of these drugs IS scary.

The moral of the story?  Know and understand your meds.  (I have found Drugs.com helpful.)

So true Eli - it also helps to have a good relationship with your pharmacist and to have all scripts filled at the same pharmacy if possible. That way they have record of all your drugs and can cross reference them for any adverse interactions.

Thanks for the handy link  -  I just got up to get a pill bottle to check one of the meds I have just started on the site. Ended up going to brush my hair, putting the kettle on, wiping the counter of toast crumbs from brekkie, and making a cup of tea. Sat down only to realize I didn't have the pill bottle. lol  Sheesh.

Hi Ladies!  Sorry I've been AWOL lately… my son is moving to Seattle in a few days and there is still so much to do!  Aargh!!  I'm worn out - in fact I'm fixing to go collapse on my bed and pass out from exhaustion.  I told him not to worry, though.  I'll rest when he finally moves, haha!  OMG, that sounds terrible!  Of course, I'm beside myself with grief (he's my only child) so that is probably adding to the stress and exhaustion.

Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays and I hope we all have a stupendous 2014!

P.S.  Marlegal - that was a great story and you have a wonderful daughter to think of such a generous gift.
