I flew with my TEs did not get stopped at all. I had a letter from my PS jsut in case but did not need it.

So, is 300 cc a good stopping point for filling my TEs, if he should be implanting 350cc?  Or should I allow another expansion or two?  Maybe you need more information about my TEs.  I will call the office to get that information.  Thanks for you help so far!

liztish... Yes, I need more info...

Ok...The TEs that I have are Mentor 354-6213 or 14, 450cc, but as I said, I have stopped the fills at 300cc.  The PS has ordered 325cc and 350 cc (Mentor) or 340 cc (Allergan?) implants for the exchange.  Thanks for your input on this.

liztish: Well, one number is a 450 cc and one is a 550 cc.  But even if you have the 450 cc TE, you still have the footprint for the TE, which is to state, you still have the width of 12.7 cm and a projection sufficient to exchange you out to a 371 cc implant Style 15 in Allergan or a 375 cc moderate plus profile implant in Mentor.  I do not know why he is using implants which are narrower than the TEs...???  I would call and make certain you obtain the exact style he has ordered.  You would not want Style 10 in Allergan or the moderate profile...it must have the "PLUS".   Try to clarify all of this before the exchange.  With what your PS has ordered, you will be substantially smaller...

Post-exchange question - is dancing considered too strenuous to do one week out of my exchange? There's a swing/ballroom dance I'd love to go to tomorrow - I haven't danced since New Years, and before that it was a long time, and I suddenly realized how much I miss it. And maybe the chance to show off my cleavage would help me feel better about it.... Wink

I'll probably call the PS tomorrow to double check anyway, but I thought some of you might have thoughts on it.

Rachelvk - if you're going to have someone swing you around and pull on your hands and arms, yes, it is too strenuous. Calling your P.S. is wise. I was limited in how much lifting my arms over my head i could do for several weeks post exchange. Be careful. Those newly placed implants could shift laterally if you do too much right now. You are still healing and will be for months. Take it easy right now to prevent future problems.

    I agree with Dawne-Hope!

Edited to add:  But why not go anyway and dress the part and show off your cleavage?  You can at least watch and participate as an observer who will be on the dance floor a few months from now!

To follow up on Rachel's question - is it odd that I'll have no restrictions 2 weeks post exchange? Other than lifting the kids, my PS said I can do what I want... I thought that'd a bit aggressive. Thoughts?

I was told not even to power walk just moderate exercise, no swing of the arms. I forget for how long though. I remember because I wanted to get back to working out especially strength training.

Thanks everyone. I'll wait on that. I was also told do whatever my body lets me except heavy lifting, so I hope I'm not overdoing it. Lateral shift, huh? Maybe that's why my arm keeps knocking into my right foob when I put it down at my side. I just keep nugding it over a bit.... I think pushing and pulling, especially the doors at work, are my biggest obstacle. I was aching the other day after going in and out of one room a number of times and had to ask a co-worker to open the door finally because I just didn't want to strain again.

Rachel - my DH and I took ballroom dancing lessons for years. We sucked, but continued to go because it was so much fun.

One thing I remember is even before BC, my arms got SO tired being "in the position" for so long, I would have to put them down.

That's not even counting swing dancing!

Now, couldn't imagine keeping my arms up like that after surgery. I think I'd pay for it the next day.

But you should go anyway and have fun watching! Soon you will be out there burnin' up the dance floor!!!

p.s.  After my final fills, my PS said I didn't have any restrictions. WHAT? So DH took a picture of me (from the waist up) doing chin-ups at a local playground, and I showed it to the PS. His eyes bugged out at the shot, and I know he wanted to say something. Finally, I admitted that my feet were on the ground the whole time. Just wanted to remind him of what "no restrictions" might mean to some people Wink

    LOL Blessings.

Restrictions are less of an issue with TEs, I think, since they come out and the doctor does a capsulectomy and can rejigger position and stuff like that (short, sloppy description of what a PS does).

But yeah I took it easy for a few months (at least) and heavy lifting was described to me as anything heavier than a gallon of milk.

Blessings:  Way to go.  Great idea about the chin-up picture.  My PS said do anything I felt like doing too, until I ask about specific things one by one.

    Blessings - Neat pic idea!

I wore an old bra today and hope I didn't squish things too much. I just don't like going out without anything just yet since I still have stitches and want them covered a bit, but I haven't had a chance to get a better-fitting bra. They're both feeling a little tight tonight.

    Dear Whippetmom,

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for your selfless kindness in helping people like me through breast cancer. I had a left breast nipple/skin sparing mastectomy with immediate recon with 2 stage tissue expander placement and SLNB (2 lymph nodes). I'm 5'3", 105lbs, 27.5" rib age measurement, TE type is 133sx-13-T(natrelle). Breast tissue removed is 260cc. Bra size was a small 34B. I am now filled to 325cc. Looks like I'm a full 34B. However, it looks smaller because it's more condensed (very hard and round) and sits higher than my other breast. I would like to go bigger, a medium C. I would like to get silicone implants. How many cc's would you recommend?

Angel: You will need 500 ccs in Style 20/Allergan or 371 ccs in Style 15/Allergan in order to meet the width requirements of your TEs. You are going to be larger than a

C cup though....just wanted you to know.....I think I prefer Style 20 for you. The use of the short height/extra full projection TE, enables the PS to utilize an implant with considerably greater volume than that of the TEs. It is my preferred style of TE, actually.

EDITED: To add that I just reread and see you are a unilateral. So I would state that the choice of style will depend upon gaining symmetry with the native breast. The PS will use a smaller silicone implant on the native side. Typically though, the Style 20 works very well for use in uni recon.

Whippetmom - thank you for such a quick response. We were both night owls :)

When you stated that I will be larger with 500ccs (style 20/allergan), will I be a D cup?

Diane: More than likely a DD cup. But do not freak out, because you will look like a large C cup in clothing. Breast implants, with recon, require more cup space. The reason I am able to assess cup size for you is because of your tiny ribcage to weight to height ratio and no adipose tissue to factor into the equation.

Are you able to predict my cup size with the informations you have....5'5 1/2'' @ 120 29' ribcage and no adipose tissue. Expanders at 360 ccs and my PS will try to use CPG 323 345 ccs or 390 ccs. Thank you !

Deborah - I am now filled to 325cc in my TE and my Dr says that this is the perfect size for me.  He doesn't want to fill anymore.  At this point, I am probably a full B cup.  I want to be a bigger size - at least a C cup.  I would like to email you pics for more of your opinion, if you don't mind.

loulou:  It is not as predictable with anatomicals.  Rounds I just know because they are used in 90% of the cases here in the U.S.  Anatomicals do not fill out a bra the same way the rounds do - and so the bra sizing is not equal in all aspects.  But I would think you would be in the "C" cup range at 390 ccs and in the "B" range in the lower 300s.

Thank you Deborah !!!!...B or a C cup is ok for me. I have a small frame so it will be good to not be too big ! Wink

Hi I recently had a BMX and currently have expanders but alrhough my PS is very nice and has a great reputation, i am frustrated that we have not sat down to discuss the type of implants I will be getting. I have made it clear that I want to be one cup smaller (I was a 34C and want to be a B). She said to just let her know when I have reached the size I want (with expanders???) and she will just overfill to accomodate the implants. We did talk briefly about silicone versus saline and agreed on silicone but I want to ask her for an appointment to specifically discuss the type and size of implant. I am French and perfectly aware that the US is behind the curve on implant technology. I want to be able to have an educated discussion with this surgeon so that she does not make a choice that I will end up hating. Please, if anyone knows what my options are and what might work best for me (I am 5:3, 110lb and would like a small chest that does not make me look like a Barbie doll- I am in my late forties) I would really appreciate any information you can share!

Caroline: I think that you will want quite small implants, but it all depends on your tissue expanders.  I need to know the manufacturer, style and volume.  Actually, I really just need to know how wide they are and I can go from there.  You might even have a little card with this information.  If not, it must be recorded in your chart and so you would be able to ask the doctor's office for this info.  It is often written on the operative record.  I think something around 300 ccs would be sufficient - but I do think that you would be happier with moderate plus profile/midrange profile implants, because they impart more of an athletic shape - as they have a lower profile than the high profile style implants.  So if you would like to refine this a bit further, see if you can secure the needed information.

Hi to all, my exchange is on wednesday and I have a question: my Te is at 450 cc, I told the ps that I kind of like it, but it's on the big side just a bit. He said that in order to have them exactly like it is, he will need to put 500 cc, so he recommended to put 450 cc and it will look smaller than I am right now. Does anyone else heard that? by the way, he will be using 450 mentor high profile.
