Good thing I weighed yesterday because I'm up .5 today.

My DD had me scared because she wasn't watching her food and has diabetes. Her doctor told her if she kept her sugar under 200, the side effects would take longer to appear. The normal level is 100 and that seemed totally out of her reach. She's been watching carbs and her numbers are coming down. No cake for her birthday.

Nettie - if it helps any, I also have 50 pounds to lose.. it is almost overwhelming... and nothing seems to work - someone told me we have to keep trying, even if we don't lose at this point maybe we won't gain any more.. she also told me to just count the calories and keep them around 1850 average..

Hope that encourages you a little.

Forgot to weigh yesterday, but this morning down another pound to 154.5 - I predict this will be my low for a while, as I leave for the wedding next Tuesday, and won't be eating well or exercising like I should.  So when I get back from the wedding it will be damage control.  I struggled for so long to just get to the 150's, and now I am below 155, I am just thrilled.

Pat, when you and I get back from our events, we will have to pester each other to get right back on the wagon. Once I am bad, I tend to stay bad, so will need a kick in the behind!!!!

I leave this afternoon & get back Tuesday when you leave....so I am bracing myself.....if I just eat thoughtfully....not taking second (& third helpings), not buying a candy bar at the gas station....things like that would be a step in the right direction.

136 today does not make me happy.  Last week I was down to 134 but went on a binge over the weekend and gained 2 lbs.  Got to get back in the saddle.

Down .5 to 132. I want to see the 20's again. Even 29 would be a big encouragement.

I was fairly pleased with my weight this morning. I had gained some since mid-July surgery, and I have lost that. Next Wednesday I will report how much I'm down (surely I'll be down, right?!) from today.

    Hello All,

At diagnosis in 2009 I was about 125 overweight. Since then I have slowly lost 57 pounds. I still need to lose at least another 50 pounds. My oncologist wants to see my weight "plummet" and also has admitted that the meds we take make losing much harder for many of us.

Embarrassed to say, I have been bouncing up and down losing, then gaining, the same 5 pounds for the last 6 to 7 months! My exercise has been sporadic to non-existent and my diet hasn't been great either.

Husband lost part of his income and we are not doing well financially. I've tried to find work, but no success so far. I think I have been discouraged and have returned to my "old friend" food for comfort. We cannot afford a medical weight loss program or anything like that.

Anyhow, I am now back to serious effort towards my weight loss! I have been through too much with cancer to not take my health seriously. I have recommitted to healthy eating of about 1400 calories a day with little to no grain/bread products and consuming very little sugar. I eat many veggies, fruit, chicken, legumes, nuts, nut butters, yogurt, etc. This approach seems to work best for me. I like to keep track on MyFitnessPal.

My hospital has a health center and after my oncologist phoned them one of the trainers showed me how to do intervals on the treadmill to help rev up my metabolism. Now I just need to get there several times a week!

Ladies, I am in need of some encouragement and accountability. It feels overwhelming sometimes. So I am here!

Hopefully I will be able to report a loss next week on Wed. Until then, thanks for being there to listen.

    Charlotte

Welcome Charlotte and congratulations on those 57 lbs. That is really an accomplishment. I know what you mean about tight finances making you hungry. It certainly works that way for me. Take it one day at a time, or meal, or week. Whatever seems possible and reward yourself for every pound lost.

Haven't posted for a few weeks.  I have been stuck at 178.6 for a few weeks.  Heading to Cape May, NJ, for a week of fun in the sun and planning to get a lot of walking in without any distractions.  I have been shooting for 10,000 steps a day on my pedometer.  I just hope I can keep the eating under control.

Hi all - got back from the wedding last week and weighed in on Thursday, and was down .5 lbs to 154!  Don't know how that happened with all the celebrating, but I'm very happy about that.  San Diego is a very healthy place, and we went for lots of long beach walks, so maybe that counteracted my overeating.  Have a great week everyone!

Hi All, two years ago I managed to lose almost all my postmenopausal weight gain, and got down from a high of around 150 to 130 (ish). I was so happy, my clothes fit and I had a waist that I was proud of again. I swore I would never put on the weight again, BUT then a few pounds went on, then BC and at my post rads weigh in last month I had just started tamoxifen and was nearly 141. ( i am 5' 3 1/2")

I have been exercising so much for me, doing weights, trying to jog, getting on the treadmill and cross trainers at the gym. I must have done nearly a half marathon in the last week between the walking and jogging (slow jogging). Well I did 7k on the treadmill yesterday and today I had an appt. with a personal trainer (4 weekly 1/2 hour sessions.) I got on the scale at the gym before the session and FINALLY I was down to 139 (with added muscle of courseWinking)

I also ordered a FITBIT for motivation as I don't know how long I can keep up so much exercise. DH is around 270, excercises, but buys large packs of kitkats and things that add temptation so does not GET the significance to us of losing even a half a pound.

The bad news is I still feel so fatigued. I have been doing serious exercise from 30 to 60 mins 5 days a week, eating a lot of protein and yet i just want to veg out, lie down and watch TV when I am not  working at getting fit. I am only working part time(3 days) and some days I get so fatigued at the office that I feel like going out to the car for a nap. I don't sleep well but that is normal for me. Just wondering how others manage with ongoing fatigue.

When did you finish rads? The fatigue from that is cumulative and often worse after they're done. Otherwise I'd ask for a blood test for anemia and a thyroid test.

Wren, I finished around August 8th so its about 6 weeks or so, I was going to give it a couple more weeks and then check with the doctor as there are so many things I would like to do but don't have the energy.

Oh man, it is going to take longer than that! What I've read is that you should take the amount of time you were in active treatment & expect it will take that long again to feel 'normal'......from personal experience, I would say to double it. Do keep exercising, it will actually help with fatigue, but maybe take it a little slower (and I say this as an avid exerciser). If you try to push too hard too fast it you will burn out. It will come back gradually. If you want some exercise buddies in all stages of treatment and beyond, check out the "Lets Post Our Daily Exercise" thread on the fitness forum.

    Welcome back Patoo

Lost another .5 lbs, down to 153.5.  Trying hard to make good food/drink choices and exercise daily.  DH is thinking about doing Weight Watchers online for men, anyone have any experience with that?  He needs to get serious about weight loss, and I told him I would join him, but he is not a "track your food" kind of guy, so I wonder if it will work for him.

  • wren44
    wren44 Member Posts: 7,928

Down .5 to 131. No celebration because it bounces around.

pat01, will he do loseit.com?  Won't cost him anything and he doesn't have to "track" his food, just log it.  It will count the calories and give him more if he adds exercise.  Maybe get him to try that before committing to WW.

Wren, I bounce around the same 3 lbs so hoping that getting back here among other places will start me back going down again.

I'm down a few ounces but won't post a starting weight until next Weds.
