Galsal - My LE therapist has me wear a breast binder that seems to come up high enough to keep the swelling down in my armpits - but that is as far as I have gone.

My arm aches so bad this morning while trying to do my work on the computer this morning... but because of the cellulits - No sleeve over the bite? Correct? Just water and elevation when I get the chance??
0 -
Gma, you need to give it a rest! No compression, no MLD. Just water and elevation--not just when you get the chance, you need to MAKE the time. Cellulitis=sick. Rest, stay hydrated, rest, deep breathing, rest. The Keflex can't do this all by itself, y'know? Gotta help it.
Wish I was closer, I'd come by with a plate of brownies and sit on ya'!

new treatment from Binney! plate of brownies sounds like a perfect solution, who can resist them?
rest rest rest, and a brownie~~

YES MAM!!! LOL Remember a while back when I said I elevated my arm on pillows with the keyboard? Well, I am sitting on my butt at the computer with my arm elevated and a glass of never-ending water... Hope that works, because i got to do my computer work.. no more sick leave available and it is our house payment.. Binney, i really look silly with my arm that high...thank goodness for ctrl C and ctrl V - the left hand does all the work while the right arm is elevated ROFL... brownies sound good - our boarder likes to bake though - made some berry apple cobbler - too sweet for me though but was from our blackberries and apples out in the garden...Keep encouraging me and telling me to stay put - I know after work, I'm just going to bed - I can't believe how drained I feel today...

Aw, Teka, that's reassuring even if it's not the final word. Peace of mind is worth gold! So glad you'll soon have lots of it!
Be well!

What I said on the Cellulits discussion:
No fever, rash is within the lines still, but I now have glands in my neck that hurt and a sore throat - Also a weird burning sensation on my neck and chest, but as I said, you can't see red or rash... Is the antibiotic doing that... I am really starting to feel like crap....

Ok Ya All, Off work... going to go lay down and elevate my arm... there will be a water bottle next to me.... Ok?? I am really trying to be good - I'm tired of others saying, "Its just a bug bite, what's your problem"
PS EDIT: I will have my IPOD to see when you ladies laugh... but won't be typing back on that thing.

No GmaF its not just a bug bite....everyday something else with you really means in my books that things are not under control.
Ya gotta get to the bottom of this.if you are allergic to anti-biotics as i am i would be very careful if i were you.And please rest rest rest and then rest again.
Ill come with Binney to hold you down!!!!!

Can....Someone please tell me how the water works?? Liz

Ok called doc to update told him: no fever, no rash, redness is down, still a little puffy, just burning sensation in my neck and chest off and on, glands in neck are sore and it is hard for me to swallow... my doc is out of the office... the doc on duty said to stop the keflex and go to urgent care - I called urgent care to try to talk to them first... I really don't want to drive down the hill :-P

Gma, holding my breath and praying for some good answers, and quick. Urgent Care sounds like a good plan to me.
Hugs, prayers,

Liz, keeping well hydrated helps 'dilute' (there might be a better word) the lymphatic fluid.
Gma, sorry the solution isn't easy. It's difficult to know if you are having a reaction to the antibiotics or the cellulitis. I suspect they will want to try a different antibiotic.

Sandcastle, the way I've heard it is that staying well hydrated helps dilute the lymph fluid and keep it moving. That has always seemed far-fetched to me and I'm convinced there's more to it than that, but then I remember that drinking a whole lot of water before a blood test helps the blood flow better too, so I'm inclined to believe it. Whatever, it works!
Hugs,

The water helps a lot.I feel the difference when i do not drink enuf water....
I have been cutting up fresh fruit and put it in my water bottle.Today was apple. You do get tired of that same old same old H2O....coconut water is very good too.really hydrates.
Any other suggestions??????????

Back from urgent care again - she took one look at me and my bite - it looks like it is going down, stop the antibiotic being you have a PROBLEM with them... but your symptoms can't be allergy to the antibiotic - you are probably coming down with a virus...
I'm Confused - no more antibiotic at all you are fine because the swelling has started to go down...????
Symptoms - flushing of the chest and neck and painful nodes in the neck that make it hard to swallow...

Well, I am seeing some slight swelling in my right hand. Great, wonderful, I have bilateral lymphedema.
I could not be more despondant right now. Forget the water, I want some whiskey.

nibbana, you have every right to be despondant; LE is horrid. I notice swelling on my hand when it's stinkin' hot out. I'm not convinced it's actually LE; it happens when I'm wearing sleeve and gauntlet, and when it's nasty hot out. I douse the sleeve/gauntlet with water and let evaporative cooling do its magic. The swelling goes away within 30 minutes or so, which is why I think it's heat related. Is this possibly the case for you, too? Can you get to an LE therapist while the hand is swollen, for an expert opinion?
Keep us posted.

Well, it's only 70 degrees here. Not really that hot. I"m normally was never a sweller due to heat either.
I see my LET next week, and boy do I have a bombshell to drop on her. She better come up with another plan, because what I'm doing is obviously not working.

Oh, rats. A simple answer is not working. Arghhhhh! I just hate this stupid LE. I am so sorry to hear that you're doing the whack-a-mole LE thing--it just pops up in different places.

No one has answered my question re wrapping ... is it OK to wrap the fingers/hand and not the arm?
0 -
GMA I think I would look for another opinion.
Dawne you take a risk just wrapping the fingers and hands. You could cause the swelling to move to the arm. It's called trial and error. My PT in January didn't wrap my toes but the one this time did.
Well I don't have cellulitis like GMA but I am on a antibiotic. Never taken it so fingers crossed I don't react to it. I got put on clindamycin. I just can't seem to get a break. Break ironically is what I did. I broke my back molar. Jaw is hurting so I guess he is not going to give it a chance to abscess before Tuesday when he pulls it. Just don't have the money to have a root canal and crown. Did I mention how much I hate AETNA. I am having to pay out of pocket-out of network. The one practice that is close to me said the earliest they could get me in was Sept. 18. I don't think I am waiting 4 weeks with a tooth broken and hurting.
Passing some fresh milkway brownies. They looks so yummy. lol I could kill my FB friend who made and posted that picture.

Kitty dog I wish you lived near me! My dentist would come in on the weekend and at least do something for you.
Btw I'm watching the arm. She seemed to think I just have a virus. I looked after I got home on the Mayo clinic med SEs the neck & chest burning sensation was on there. I think they are pacifying me because the welt wasn't that big.
I think I'm done here.. I have been taking up the last 4 pages.. I'm sorry ladies I will not post any more..0 -
GmaFoley - Please don't feel that way. Grrrrrrrr's don't often go away quickly. That is why we are here. ((hugs))

dawnehope - I sometimes wrap my hand and fingers only and it works for me. I don't wear arm compression without hand compression but I will wrap my hand without wrapping my arm.
My theory is it pushes the fluid up - can't go down further. It's usually night when I wrap my arm and I sleep with my arm elevated - well, at least I start out that way.
Try it once and see.
The most frustrating phrase is 'find what works for you' but it's true. Wrapping my hand only works for me.

GmaFoley~hey, there are no limits on the number of posts one chooses to make. You are in trouble right now and any time you need to post, you go girl. If someone can help you out here with decision making that's the whole idea. Cellulitis sometimes can present with flu like symptoms. But then so can a drug reaction. Perhaps you don't have cellulitis but if you do, a couple of antibiotics aren't likely to have fixed the problem. You need to see a Dr. who can address your concerns and find an antibiotic that you won't react to. I can't believe how cavalier your Dr. seems to be treating your problem. It does get disheartening at times for sure. Is there another urgent care you have access too? If so, I think I'd try there if you feel you need to head out again. Gentle hugs.

I....ONLY use a gauntlet.....and that works for ME......tried arm compression and my arm blew up ....went without anything for about 9 months all was well until this little ShihTzu puppy of ours got bigger and I was picking him up a LOT......went back to MLD and a gauntlet and it is working.....Of course all the busy bodies have to ASK questions.....Liz

Have to save that I wore the wrapping for only 12 hours. It just drove me NUTS and since it had loosened up as was hoped for, I couldn't get it all back together well.
So I slept without any thing. First thing in the morning I looked in the mirror. Lo and behold - that upper breast area had greatly reduced and the lower outside is working on it. Since I couldn't wrap myself and couldn't reach my friend to do it, I wore the breast binder I'd been wearing when sent home from the BMX surgery months ago. Friend was over last evening and we checked. She was amazed at how reduced it is.
I guess I'm mostly concerned with wearing something while sleeping that exerts any pressure.
