This is the tape measure I use.  It appears that they are no longer carrying them so good luck finding it or something similar.

ohhh but isn't this new product great.  I might have to order this one.  Tape that has every 4 cm. marked so you know where to measure everytime and it will always be the same.

RE: the tape - my LE-T makes a tape like that and puts it on my arms when measuring so that she knows she's always measuring at the same spot.  I'll have to let her know they sell it again - she said she used to be able to get the pre-marked, but hadn't been able to for a while, so makes her own.

Nibbana, when I'm flaring I usually feel so panicked, so it helps to slow way down and try to fit all the remedial measures into your day in an orderly manner: deep breathing, lots of water, watch the salt, elevate with support as much as possible, raise arm and slowly open and close hand into a fist a few times at intervals. If you're doing self-mld take a few minutes before starting to settle yourself, otherwise you might end up going to fast and pressing too hard in an effort to wring that puppy out!Frown Not easy to do when you're worried about it. You might try some slow music and a scented candle to help get you in the slow-and-easy frame of mind. If you find yourself working too hard at the mld, just stop and try it later. Too deep and too fast can cause more problems than it solves.

Hang in there! And do keep us posted,
    Binney

    Thanks Binney,

I know eventually the fluid will leave and I'll get back to normal. It just messing with my workout routine now, grrr. I'll have to do some "sit on your butt yoga" to avoid my arms.

Feeling for all my flaring friends.Cry

Oh drats anyway to the bunch of you. It's crummy isn't it.Cry  Just got over a mini flare from cleaning out my inside of my car for 2 hours.  Won't be vaccumming in there again and will clean the windows etc in stages. I really think the wrapping paid off even if I did it only a couple times.Wink  Going to wrangle the family to do strenuous parts from now on.  The last couple years I get my kid to wash car and I hold the hose.   Cool

For those who can wear off the shelf sleeves/gauntlets I found a one piece combo unit for $27.84

    http://www.brightlifedirect.com/allegro-20-30mmhg-armsleevegauntlet-combo.asp

I have never used this brand before but I figured for this price I will give it a try...I'll let you know how they fit.   My only concern is I usually get puffy fingers from gauntlet alone so I am hoping I can wear my glove under the sleeve (I hope it will protect the glove and make it last longer).

So - I took a flight from Ohio to San Fran two weeks ago. Spent two days at a customer site. Between the flight and the change in the routine, my hand has not been happy. Then, the temperature jumped to 60+ today and my arm is not happy at all. Achy, blah, blah.

I did the Flexi-Touch, did MLD, and wrapped my hand for several hours. Arm is now happier, hand swelling is less but not gone. Tomorrow I head out for 5+ hour drive to Rochester, NY and I know my arm is gonna ache some more.

Okay - I know I can do this. I have the knowledge and tools - just needed to whine.

O2b, I have that Allegro sleeve/gauntlet combo, and it works well enough, although not a perfect fit. I find that it tends to not hug my wrist. No wrinkles or bunches, just not a tight fit, no matter how much I tug on it from either direction.  So far, I have not had any issues with fluid moving where it ought not to, but I tend to wear this garment only when I'm seriously behind on laundry and my Juzos are not clean.  Brightlife also sells a separate sleeve and gauntlet that are also attractively priced.  I did not order the sleeve because someone posted a while back that it is unusually long, and I am petite and do not have long arms.  I did buy the gauntlet, however, to use when I'm doing messy work, and it fits and feels just fine.  The best part about buying from Brightlife is that they will take returns even if you've worn a garment for a few weeks, so there's not much downside to trying their Allegro products.

Ohio4me, yikes on the cross-country flight and the barometric changes that brought grief to the arm and hand!  Hopefully the weather is stable during your drive, so at least you don't have to put up with pressure problems.  Best wishes for that drive--do what you should to minimize any LE repercussions!

I bought the sleeve alone ( to wear with another glove) but my issues are mostly wrist and hand so I did not like the ' cuff/band' on the wrist  that I imagine would not bother most ppl.  I  could not resist that price though!  I only tried it on for 10 mins and have thrown it up for grabs here but no takers.

In any case, be careful of your hand--  just watch for signs of dbl. compression.  If that doesnt happen, you may have  a winner !  Let us  know.

Nibbana, how are you doing? I go back to my LE tomorrow.  Last week my arm was down enough that he gave me my new sleeves, including my new juzo night garment with the hand.  Thanks Linda for the recommendation.  I love it!  It gave me blisters on my finger though.  I think the seem at the bottom of the ring finger is really hard and bothers me.  I'll see what he says about it.  It is so comfortable except for that finger.  I really love it.  I don't what caused that sudden flare last week.  I think maybe I overdid it with exercising although I really have been doing the same thing for a long time now.  The weird thing is I still seem to be able to flare so easily.  As soon as I take my sleeve off my arm gets puffy.  I am wondering if it could be from a vaccine trial I am doing.  I hope not, but I go there again on Wednesday so if it gets bad again, I guess I will know that is the culprit. Binney you're right, it is upsetting to get a flare, especially when you're not really sure what caused it.  I haven't exercised except the stationary bike for two weeks since the flare, but it still seems like I am not over the hump.  Hmmm.

GMA, could you teach your DH to measure for you?  I agree it would be quite difficult to measure yourself.

KittyDog, congrats!!  I am so happy for you.

    Purple32.

Could I ask what size the sleeve you "threw up for grabs" is?

I did read back a ways, but did not find a post mentioning it.

    Thanks

Vaccine ?  Hmmmm....hope not !  Then again, if it is easy to stop then, maybe .  Just hope you get over the hump soon!

Carol - I think of you everything time I get off the plane at airport. I keep watching for you to walking down the concourse. One day we just may cross paths in all our work travel.

I am fortunate my next two sites are just a drive away so my air travel should be less for the next 4-5 months - at least that is my hope. Little Martha (LE arm) and I have learned how to travel nicely together for the most part. I think the swelling from my last trip was partly due to not stretching during the day and I didn't get my water in during the day. The conditions at that customer site (for us to work) are suboptimal. I'm used to stretching my arm and massaging my hand frequently throughout the day and that didn't happen that week.

Little Martha loved the winter weather and I got away with rarely wearing my sleeve/glove. I know warmer weather is coming which means that sleeve/glove will be worn lots more. Kinda backwards - it would be easier to wear the LE sleeve in the winter but I need it more in the warm weather.

Will be wearing that sleeve for my drive today - my arm is already achy. Guess I crank up the music and distract myself.

So here's to an early start to my dayUndecided

So do any of you go through a latent phase of denial?  This weekend with everything I was doing - I just decided not to wear the sleeves, no Lebed, no MLD and told myself, I'm not swollen I feel fine, maybe I don't have LE... THEN woke up Sunday morning - my half/breast was full size and my nerve pain was worse.. Right elbow was pooling fluid..  WHY do I do this?? Needless to say, my arms are back in the sleeves and after work I see Lebed and MLD coming my way..  Undecided  Does anyone else do this??? Or am I the only stupid one?

Gma - I bet you're not alone at all!  I have periods of denial, mostly with MLD and Lebeds.  I'm really good about them on weekdays, but on weekends I'm not so good - hey, it's the weekend, right??  And I usually pay for it.  Cry

denial? you bet, I decided although I know better, to enjoy the hot tub yesterday at the gym

no problem today but I know it is not a good idea and it got me in trouble before when I was using it

You're not supposed to use a hot tub with LE??? Wink

I'm in BIG denial on that one, I admit.  We have a mountain cabin with a hot tub.  It's on 10 acres of wooded land, so there's nothing but nature all around.  There is nothing like sitting out in the hot tub first thing on a clear winter morning when it's about 20 degrees out and the steam is just rising in the dawn light . . .

hmm, well I am blaming my use of the hot tub plus over doing the weights on the funkie pain I had a while ago on my LE arm

I stopped the hot tub, lowered my weights and no more arm pain.

but I had been using the tub for 4 years so...who knows!

We have a jacuzzi bathtub, so I'm pretty sure, if I don't make it toooo hot, it's ok - right? Wink  And yes, I'm in denial too often.  Part of it is, I'm not sure that my glove isn't making my hand swell worse because it pushes on the degenerated thumb joint and causes a problem there, so trying to find the balance, while waiting for an appointment with LE-T.  Last time she had me get a steroid injection and it reduced the swelling tremendously from the joint, which made it easier to handle the LE!

hmmm, maybe I can do hot tub after my gym workouts

thought it had to do with the change in temperature so not sure now

The heat can encourage swelling according to my LE-T, she also said it didn't help to hold your arm out of the water, it had to do with your core temp, so even hot tubbing with your arm elevated, and out of the water could cause swelling.  I try to limit my jacuzzi baths, but is one place I'm not as compliante as I could be.  Tongue Out  So, be careful and check with your LE-T on his/her thoughts on it.

Linda, we have a jacuzzi bathtub too.  I use it and enjoy the pressure flow from the jets, but keeping the temperature down just to be safe.  But it's not the same as with super hot water. Sigh. Sigh again....

GMA OMG yes I have periods of denial...currently in one but I still do my MLD just every other night.  I also wear my compression if I am going somewhere but at home...nope and my legs are up but not my arm.

So here is my question..what do you do when you have had a horrible cramp in you LE leg that has left a very tight muscle..literally in a hard knot...just below my bad knee and it hurts still just above the knee.  I take flexeril at bedtime...helped but soon as I start walking it tightens right back up.  I have done some light massage but it really needs deep massage.  I even tried a hot bath....hard to give those up completely...so another denial.

    Hi again Purple32

I have never tried Allegro sleeves, what was available to me at the time of need (purchase) was Juzo, it's a size 1, so maybe it would fit me ?  I am 5'6" and weigh 125 lbs.

I will gladly take it off your hands  Cool

You can pm me if you want to get rid of it, and I will pm my mailing address.

    Thanks.

Ps:I seem to remember chatting with you some time ago about thyroid, iodine, heart issues, osteoporosis, as I have all those maladies, was that you ?

KittyDog that is what has been happening to me at night - the best thing I found that works is water - I am usually dehydrated when I get those cramps. Doc said there were some meds specifically for leg cramps but didn't want to give them to me because of my sensitivity to meds.. It is also related to sleep disorders - so needless to say, he is sending me to a sleep specialist. Still am having leg cramps off and on during the day as well as the night... The other thing we have here is "Ultimate healing cream"  That seems to help knots but you have to put it on a couple times a day for a day or so before it starts working.

KittyDog - make sure it's not a blood clot - they can feel like a cramp that doesn't go away, and often occur around your knee.

I've found that Hylands Leg cramp med works for leg, foot, arm, hand cramping for me.  Take a dose and my cramps go away within about 10 minutes, and stay away, usually for the rest of the night.
