Hey Kylie. Geez you poor thing with the travel. Yes it took me a few rads before I picked up that that the buzzing sound is when you're getting zapped. I couldn't help but always think of the star wars movie when they were chasing each other through the big mother ship in their little space ships firing at each other, that my radiation was like that targetting the bad cells. I even had the theme music playing in my head! Hey whatever rocks your boat I guess LOL.

    Nice pic Kylie.

Onc visit was fine. No problems found. I am probably the only person who dresses up to see the onc.

Except when he asked me 'is life good?' I couldn't make myself say 'yes'. Even though I live well, have a good job, friends, opportunities to travel, no treatment side effects to speak of, my emotional scar is still there when I think about the traumatic impact and year taken out of my life due to BC. It still hurts! Even with therapy and medication. But only when I remember.

I hope the onc didn't think I was underwhelmed with life.

    Off to the gym soon.

    Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to say hello from another Ozzie. Strictly speaking I'm a Pom in Oz, but providing I don't get booted out of the country due to my diagnosis, I plan to remain. I noted my diagnosis and 'journey' quite similar to Jennt28?. Triple positive, 1 lymph node (though it was huge) and started rads today. main difference is I've had a bilateral mastectomy. Nice to meet you all:)

    Hi all,

Kylie - so glad it went OK today. 5 hours is going to get a bit old though I'm guessing? Hope you have a good pile of books :-)

    Racy - life will never be the same.... {{{{{{{hug}}}}}}}}

Boobytrap - sounds like we do have a lot in common. If you've read back you'll see that my lumpectomy was a quick decision and I am now thinking about going ahead with a BMX next year... My positive node was pretty big too by the way - macromets, extracapsullar extension and LVI :-(

Hi Boobytrap, I'm a Pom in Oz too.  I've been here nearly 40 years and my family followed me here one at a time apart from two brothers who are now too old to come even if they wanted to.  And I thought I'd escaped all the family drama!  Seriously though, it's good to have family to fall back on when support is needed.

Although I'm three years out from diagnosis next week, I love being here and connecting with others who have had similar experiences and know about the fears we all face.

Hi Melissa and welcome!  I'm in Burra........what part of the North are you in?  Wow!  You are very young to have to go through all this crap.  I sure that everything is going your way and your recon goes the way you want.  Who, if you don't mind me asking, are you seeing for that?

Hoping all you annual scans are clear and you get the big go ahead!

    Hello all

Welcome to our two new ladies from SA!  Boobytrap (yes I love the name too) and Mel.  Mel - you are so young, my heart goes out to you, but you've found the right place for support and friendship.  Boobytrap, most of us have some ties to the "old country" lol - my grandparents are from the UK, and I'm sure you won't get "kicked out" lol.

Chrissy - I'm so glad you and Sue had a such a great time, looking forward to more pics!

I've been super busy at work, and with photography.  We have a gig (yes a paying one!) on Saturday and probably Sunday, that I've been madly getting ready for.  There's a memorial luncheon on the Saturday for the (forgive me I'm going off memory here, and we all know how bad that is lol) Montevideo Maru - a warship that was torpedoed in 1942 with Australian soldiers on it.  It's the 70th anniversary, and they have these lunches every year with about 100 people attending, but this year there will be 600.  So we are taking pictures during the lunch, and if the Australian War Memorial approves us on the Sunday as well at the ceremony at which the Governor General will be.  So, could be exciting and quite lucrative :-)

Hope everyone has a great day

    Trish

G'day two our new Aussie (honorary or otherwise) Sisters, Mel and BoobyTrap. So sorry that you've "qualified" for membership here, but if you are looking for advice, friendship or just a place to vent, this is a great place for it.

Trisha that's wonderful about your upcoming work this weekend. This could be the start of something big for you. Here's hoping!!!!

Well the weather over here has turned yuk again. Another front is coming again with the horrible winds but not as bad as a couple of weeks ago. I have been having such fun in the garden, but I am such a messy person. I don't seem to clean up as I go, so I have empty plastic pots and potting mix bags and clippings everywhere. I must go out and tidy up before they all blow into our pool. Not that it would make much difference. Our pool is a lovely shade of green at the moment as we turned off the pump after our 2nd to last power bill (for two months) was $750!!! Our last power bill was down to $305. I want to drain the pool anyway and repaint it, as I have never liked the colour, which is so baby blue it almost looks white. I would prefer an azure coloured blue.

Not much other news. I probably over did it last week with so much gardening as this week I don't seem to have as much energy. But I'm just listening to my body and I'm not going to go gangbusters until I feel like it again.

Welcome to Mel and Boobytrap. Big hugs to you both.

Trish - fantastic news about the weekend, you will have to post some pics.

    Good luck starting rads Jenn.

Racy - I like to dress up for Dr appts too. But I realised getting ready for rads this morning I can't do up many of my trousers, 11 extra kgs of solid stomach. Sooooo depressing. x

Oh Kylie, I've put on 5kgs since chemo - that would be on top of the 20kgs excess baggage that I was already carrying - trust me I didn't need anymore Frown.  I always try to look my best for Dr's appointments too.

    Hi all

Welcome Mel and Boobytrap, I am not a Aussie, just a Kiwi who enjoys chatting with the neighbours. You will get aout  lot of support here.

On the weight front, I have about 20 kgs to lose however, recently I have lost 10 and before that soon after I finished tx  I lost about 15 and put back on 8 before starting Weight watchers. It's  slow but it is coming off. I am determined to be at least 12 kg lighter by the time my son gets married next year. I  know just how difficult it is to take off the weight and it doesn't help when you are taking a AI.

The funeral went well with lots of people. We went back to friend's daughter's place for most of the afternoon where we laughed and told stories about Chris as well as giggling over the antics of the children.

It is bitterly cold here, already below freezing.

    Big hugs

Aly so glad the funeral was as good as they get and the best memories of your friend were shared after.

Brrrr!  That sure is getting cold!  Not that bad here but still cold and I have the fire roaring as usual.  I lit it about lunchtime today to allow enough time for it to warm the room........besides, I was cold as today and perhaps tomorrow I will be taking it a little easy after the shenanegans of the weekend....lol......and I just realised that I have to go back to the city on Saturday as my mum  said she needs a hair cut so I will take my scissors and oblige on the way to picking up the two GS's as they are spending the first week of the hols with me so DD can have a bit of a rest even though she will be working.

They say there is no rest for the wicked....lol..... I must have been a baaad girl at some point in my life.......lol

    Have a good one all!

    Love n hugs.  Chrissy

Welcome Mel and Boobytrap, so glad youve joined us in this room. Nice bunch of ladies if I do say so myself Laughing.

Kylie, great that youve got that first rad over with. May the next little while fly by so you reach the end of rads and the 5 hour journeys.

I did a silly thing last night and left my laptop at work. Went into major internet withdrawals. 2 days and a night without playing my fb games or checking into BCO, it was horrible. Wont be doing that again in a hurry lolz.

I always dress up a bit for the onc as my mum and I go to the Bronco's Club at Redhill for a buffet lunch whenever I have to see her. Its the desert after the bitter pill of waiting an hour or two to see the onc haha

Hope everyone is well or as well as can be expected. May winter be over soon for us all, freezing and wet here in Brisbane today.

    First rads today.

They were running 1/2 hr late - will call me next time so I can stay at work longer...

Gave me a voluminous gown to wear and we have to take it home and bring it back everyday - very inconvenient :-(

Had treatment from 3 angles and the last one was from 90 degrees directly above my breast - how can that NOT be completely hitting my lungs etc? The RO assured me she was minimising hitting my lung due to the pneumonitis so I am not sure how that angle fits with that idea. I get to see her to orrow so will be asking.

Came home and was so grumpy! I did a 40 minute fat buster program on my new treadmill. Was so sweaty after but it got rid of some of the frustration.

Am still grumpy though :-/. Jenn

Jenn by this stage in your treatment you are entitled to be grumpy!  You have been through so much and there is still not finished yet.  There is always a light at the end of the tunnel but sometimes it's hard to see when you are feeling so bad.  I'm glad that the exercise makes you feel a bit better but please remember not to over do as it is sooo tempting to push too far at times.

Oh Lyndal.......I know that feeling of internet withdrawal.....lol.....when I was organising my phone to go on voip there were a few problems to begin with and it seemed like the internet was always out......mind you it was probably only a little while off and on but it felt a whole lot longer ...........lol.

Take care everyone and Sue hope you have a good trip home tomorrow.

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

Jennt28, we are indeed alike. My one affected lymph node was 1cm and was also extracapsular extension. I couldn't believe it when none of the other ones were affected. So in my mind, my cancer was skillful at growing but hadn't yet gained the ability to travel..............well that's what I tell myself anyway.

It's funny hearing you ladies discuss the weather. This is like a UK summer.............only slight exaggeration.  Mind you, I've never been so cold indoors. At least at present where I'm staying there's heating. At my rental in Port Augusta we only have heating in the dining room of all places. My bed is layered with blankets, fleecey dressing gowns and any other random warm fabrics I can find.

And as for dressing up for appointments. Absolutely!!! Especially for my plastic surgeon. I figure, if she thinks I'm vain enough to tart myself up for her, she'll realise how pernickety I'll be about my boob job and put in 110%. So far she's done a pretty good job, though I hope her handywork doesn't get ruined by the rads.

Melissa- I see you're living in Adelaide. Have you thought about going to the young womens support group there? I've contemplated it whilst I'm in Adelaide for treatment. I only just duck under the limit (I'm 44 and 45 is the theoretical cutoff).

Nice to meet a 40 year Pom veteran of Oz. And I love everyones 'tag' line, especially Aussiekates. Gonna mutter that one to myself when I need to get a bit feisty!!

    Hi girls

Well it's bloody cold here at the moment - yesterday our temp range was 3 to 7!  For those of you who can afford it and suffer from the cold, get yourself a goosedown quilt.  I bought one a few years ago after having duck down quilts, and there's no comparison.  Ours is a king size and they ain't cheap! I had to go into Canberra city yesterday and fill in some time before a meeting and in DJs they are $699 - but they are having their half yearly sale so were cheaper, but can't remember how much.  We also have a wool underlay for the bed, and can turn it over in the summer to cotton - lol can't remember how much that was, but it was all worth it.  The goosedown quilt is just heaven, it's light but so warm it's unbelievable.  You girls up north probably don't need it - but those of us in the south, well that's another story lol.

Kylie and Jenn sending you (((hugs))) girls - hope the rads don't get too bad for you.

Oh - I've now lost 8.2kg!  Doing a happy dance lol

Woohoo Trish!  You go girl!  that's a great weight loss, I'll have to get stuck into my diet again or you'll soon catch up to me....... lol.

Strange that you should mention the goose down quilt today.......lol.......I was laying in bed this morning thinking I was going to have to do something about the weight of the blankets on my be as for me to be warm at night I have a lot!  To lessen weight I went to the new microfibre blankets but when you have four of them they get heavy.  I'll have to save my pennies and check out the goose down.

Kylie and Jenn, don't forget to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise even if you don't feel any adverse effects from the rads.   It's really important to keep that moisture going into the skin.

    Love n hugs all!  Chrissy

Chrissy we got a king sized quilt as I was tired of wrestling my share from DH and it also hangs better on a QS bed, but if you need a QS one, then obviously they are a bit cheaper.  The sales are on now - maybe you could layby one?  Make sure you get as close to 100% goose down (not feather) as possible though, not sure if they come in 100%, but the higher the number the better.  We used to get cold with the duck down quilts and DH put blankets on the bed in winter to stay warmer (and I hate having anything heavy on me when I sleep) but now we don't need the blankets.  It's surprisingly cool enough in the summer too - and if it's too hot we just throw it off.

Trish DH and I have single beds because he encouraged the dog dog to sleep on the bed.  I was always sensative to animals but put up with it but with the bc and I'm guessing all the crap that goes with it I now seem to be allergic to her if I get her hair near my face.......lol....so we don't share a bed.  Besides the dog....lol.....we had a tendancy to continuously wake each other up as he (to me) seems to be up and down all night and some nights I know I'm very restless for one reason or another so we weren't getting enough sleep.  He is satisfied with his bed coverings so I would only need a double for my single bed.  I'll  have to look into it when I go to the city.

I also like something over me in the summer no matter how hot it is....lol.....I just put a fan blowing directly on me.  I can honestly say, that this winter, for the first time since being on an AI, I actually am feeling the cold.

    Sue are you home yet?

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy
