SAS, sorry about the loss of your DH. If you don't mind that it's with coffee, here's a Fathers Day toast to Greg.
VR, happy anniversary next week. I married at age 37 so it's 'only' been 15 years.
Jo, I agree this is a great thread. But I disagree with your observation about 4,000 posts. I have four times as many posts as you (from playing the games) and am pure as the driven snow.
I am up really early so enjoy your slumbers ladies, I will tend the fire and watch the sun rise.

Badger....Good morning! How was the sunrise?? Mornings are my favorite time of day!0
-
Good morning VR, the sunrise was lovely at the virtual beach but here IRL it's raining so it just turned lighter gray as the sun rose. I'm a morning person too!

Good Morning Ladies
SAS - So sorry about the loss of your DH.
Badger - Thanks for tending the fire and glad the sunrise was lovely. I like to sleep in on the weekends - well, as much as my dog will let me that is.
VR - Happy Anniversary next week.

Happy Anniversary to you too, Jo!0
-
Sas, sorry to hear that. Hope you get through the day okay.
Happy Anniversay voraciousreader. I'm in the middle of Ken Follett's Fall of Giants right now. I'm liking it

kmmd.. Ken Follett's Fall of Giants...Good for you!!!! I'm intimidated by the mega-size of his books! Have you seen the mini-series of Pillars of the Earth? One of my favorite actors, Rufus Sewell plays the character, Tom Builder. Perhaps we can get him to build something down by our bonfire......
0 -
voraciousreader - Thanks! We have a standing joke that each year I look at "renewing his lease for another year."0
-
Oh, the 2 in the pillars series were so very good. Of course, I love historical fiction so these books are totally favorites. I know what you mean about size. That's why I bought it as a treat for recovering from surgery. Ordered it from Amazon then had DH hide it so I wouldn't read it before my surgery. Gave me something to look forward to since I was dreading surgery again. I could go on and on about books all day. The one I read before this was on Madame Taussaud during the French Revolution, that was very good too. I'll probably take a break from this with the next book and find a vampire book to read

Good morning everyone. Ladies thank for your thoughts of my Greg, Happy anniversary VR& JO and Jo, please, never refer to yourself in such away again, your beautiful in spirit. Badger handling the fire and the sunrise. Your not even gone yet , but I will always associate you with fireworks. Thats a pretty good idea. Go out with a big bang or whistly noise and lots of pretty colors. Hmmmm. This works. Now everytime I see FW i'll be thinking that one ---no that one--------so many to choose from. Whole new prespective. Morning Kmmd----------- I think i may try a recipe that Chrissy b from Australia gave me last night on the insomnia thread. Sounded easy-----like easy--------and sweet and yummy. See you there

I really like anything Stewart Woods or Johnathan Keller. Have several books to read. I am going to see if Santa will bring me a Kindle for Christmas. I don't have any electronic "toys" but this one intrigues me. Should be easier to carry around.

Sisters...Come join us over at the Book Lovers thread!!!!
0 -
VR - Did not know there was one. Where do I find it? What topic do I start with? That would be great - I love to read.
0 -
Jo, the Book Lovers Club thread is in the Moving Beyond Cancer forum. I have it saved as a favorite and will bump it up into active topics for you. Happy reading!

badger - Thanks. I will go look for it now and try to catch up.

I'll try, but I had a closed head injury that readings a problem now. Bummer

bummer indeed SAS. What about books on tape? Wisconsin Public Radio has a wonderful half-hour segment called "Chapter a Day" where they read a book over the air. It takes 2-3 weeks to finish a book. I've discovered I like being read to!
0 -
Badger - That is a great suggestion for SAS. I have been known to listen to audio CDs while I am driving - especially on long trips. It does make the time pass so much faster.

Thank you for the reminder that it's Father's Day! Now I'll remember to call my father (it's not Father's Day here).
And then I'll read some more. I sometimes think my main complaint in life is "So many books. So little time".

Jo, I have a kindle and love it. I bought it because we ran out of space for bound books. Two story two car garage set up like library stacks full, two rooms of the house are his and hers offices devoted to books and desk space and bookshelves on one full wall of living room. For both of us a book read becomes family and must be kept.
Also Jo, my husband has a variation of your annual renewal of the lease with the DH. On our first anniversary he asked me to renew our contract for another year. On the second it was for two years, third - three years and so forth. Last year our anniversary came three days before I started radiation, when I was probably more frightened of the future than at any other time since I started this journey. I cried when he asked me to renew for another 44 years. I'm hopping for a 45 year contract in August.

About the Kindle, I should have mentioned that it much easier to hold than a bound book. I have some neuropathy in my hands since Tamoxifen and turning paper pages is a bit difficult, much easier to push a button!

Chabba - My DH never knows what to get me for Christmas. We just go out and get whatever we need so it makes it hard at Christmas. I always insist on at least one gift to open on Christmas Day. If I am going to put up the tree, I want something under it.
Have to left DH know in a couple of months. If I tell him now, he will most likely forget unless I remind him often and at his age I would need to. LOL

Badger that is a great idea. I will have to work on that. I used to be a voracious reader too. To give away a book Chabba I know what you mean. I'm 60 and I still have all my college texts. So not reading has been a trial. What happens is after several paragraphs the words just mean nothing. And there is no point in rereading. Short term memory affected too. Been reading the same book for two years. Pathetic. Thank God it's a good book.
I used to think it was a great day or as many as needed, if I could spend hours researching a singular topic- just to learn something new in greater depth. I was in heaven when the internet came because it made researching so much faster.
So into the fire with head injuries

SAS I can only imagine how terrible and frustrating that must be.

SAS...My beloved, late aunt had a stroke and she was no longer able to enjoy reading. It hurt me so much since I always had enjoyed sharing books with her. I often wonder what it was like living in her shoes... I am sorry that you have the same issue. I'm glad to hear, though, that you are plugging away with a book. She did the same thing...
May I make a suggestion? Our library has book discussions and current event discussions. Perhaps you would be interested in attending events at your library? I LOVE attending library events! I also go to events at our other local libraries. We have a terrific professor that discusses major art attractions at our local museums (New York City), as well as attractions at museums that he's visited around the world.

Jo and chabba---------I was deleting bio material. and realized, we meet when the Insomniacs thread opened up. I haven't been going there as much because sleeping much better. Went back on pain meds because Aromasin sledgehammar hit and found a way to manage foob pain. I wear a bra or sports bra 24/7 and sleep at a 45 degree angle. I still have actual trouble getting to sleep, but now generally stay there til morning.
Into the fire with insomnia and pain meds and Aromasin and all AI"S and Tamox

SAS.... Just returned from a discussion at one of our local libraries. The topic was about sex crimes. Very interesting. Spoke about Clinton, Weiner, Strauss and many other headlines. The only thing better than a book is a visit to the library.

Jo 1955, here is the funny thing about "Red Beer". I grew up in the Dallas area, then after I graduated high school my parents moved back to Wichita Falls. I never knew about "red draws" as they call them in W.F. until visiting up there. I thought everyone had lost their collective minds. If I want a tomato just slice it and give me the salt shaker, and if I want a beer someone better take my temperature. I will take a glass of wine or a rum and coke anytime......or maybe a frozen margarita with a swirl of red sangria in it.
