Linda-agree with Lago. Pick the component of the business you like the best and hire someone good to handle the other part. I know it's another mouth to feed, but it might allow you to grow the business even more significantly, while only focusing on the components that give you the most enjoyment and least stress.

Regarding the Karsashians.....Pretty sure they probably don't have pubes, lol. They have a person on staff to remove it all.

    AP Chief Medical Writer

CHICAGO (AP) - It's National Cancer Survivors Day, and chances are good that you know at least one of them.

Cancer survivors now number more than 14.5 million in the United States and are expected to grow to 19 million over the next decade, a new report finds. More cancers are cured, more people are living longer with the disease and people are living longer in general, which boosts the number of cases and survivors because the risk of developing cancer rises with age.

"They're living longer and we hope with better quality of life," said Dr. Patricia Ganz of the University of California, Los Angeles, whose research focuses on quality-of-life issues.

The American Cancer Society's report was released Sunday during the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the world's largest group of specialists who treat the disease.

Here are five things to know about cancer:

    GENDER'S INFLUENCE

Survival varies by gender and cancer type. For male survivors, the most common cancers they faced were prostate, followed by colorectal and melanoma. For female survivors, the most common types were breast cancer, followed by uterine and colorectal.

    DIAGNOSIS TIMING

Two-thirds of today's cancer survivors were diagnosed at least five years ago, and 15 percent were diagnosed 20 or more years ago.

    LONG LIVES

About half of cancer survivors are 70 or older. Only 5 percent are under age 40.

    LUNG CANCER SURVIVAL POOR

Lung cancer is the most common malignancy in men and women, but it is so deadly that it ranks No. 8 among survivors. That may change with promising treatments on the horizon, said Gwen Darien, head of programs and services for Cancer Support Community, a nationwide support group.

The deadly skin cancer melanoma has seen a flurry of new treatments in recent years, and "that gives us hope for some of the other cancers where survival has not improved as much," she said.

    THE ROAD AHEAD

Cancer survivors are at greater risk of second cancers and need to be monitored closely for the rest of their lives. Darien is an example - she survived non-Hodgkins lymphoma 21 years ago and now is being treated for breast cancer.

I'm thinking if you have enough to require a Brazilian Blowout down there you have a whole separate problem.... and how would that look anyway?  And yes, the Kardashians wax all that off - there was actually an episode of their show that involved just that - classy, right?

thanks all for the advice - I may do that - take a cut in my pay - maybe make myself part time in hours but allow for full benefits, and hire someone to do alot of my tedious work - I kind of like that idea!!  I think I will look for a retiree that wants to make a little but has all that experience behind them.

Speaking of a Brazilian blowout - I haven't lost much in the basement yet....

Only here would this be an acceptable conversation LOL

Linda, there is a retiree organization where retired execs do consulting with small companies and non profits to help with business plans for their company. I can't remember the name. Maybe Service something. But you might google it.

oh, and by the way, being hairless in the lady garden area was fabulous! My favorite part of chemo, lol. In face, now that I have peach fuzz back on my face, I can't stand it. I either get a dermaplane or have it waxed off.

lady garden! maybe i will invite my man to play there....maybe not!   i knew about brazilians, but- when i saw the sign for brazilian blow out, i almost wrecked my car to see if there was a long line. the sign was huge, an i thought it meant there was a deeply discounted price on the wax job.

A drought! Robin that is great. Better than what I have referred to as my long dry spell.....PBrain-a big thank you for this hysterical visual and laughter. I saw a preview for the Kardashians earlier and is now imprinted on my retinas---their "blow-out". As a nurse who has been in practice since the dead sea was just sick-I remember doing "the shave" on women coming in for delivery-with pubes up to the umbilicus. Now mom sometimes has less hair than the baby. How does your garden grow will ALWAYS have new meaning!

I love this thread. And the women who make my life better. Each of you.

I figured the Kardashian gardens were lasered versus wax on/wax off.  Maybe lasers are a no-no down there.  Dr. Google will know.  I won't even say what my California oncologist said about that area of real estate.

Susan, I had my son in 1988 and he was born with a full head of hair at 9pm and I had the shave down at 9am, 12 hours earlier.  And the enema, too.  All that labor and I had to have a C-section anyway.

My longtime friend who lives in Louisville has a daughter in her early twenties.  She says all the young women consider being bald as a baby's head (yes, her words for it in a recent email) to be part of being well-groomed.  I have read that Carmen Diaz was going to wrestle Gwyneth Paltrow down to get her to shave her nether region.

Another trend I missed out on was vajazzling.  I just googled it and the word "kits" came up with it as a prompt.  Vajazzling kits.  Hmmm, I wonder if chemo makes you lose your vajazzles?

Oh my, this discussion is hilarious. Maybe there's a marketing idea LeeA "Hey cancer patients, your lady garden is dead. Pretty yourself up with this handy vajazzling kit!" I agree that low-maintenance lady gardening is one perk of chemo... :)

ok leeA! now you have got my curiosity up. i neeeeed to know about vajazzling, but please tell us what your onc said.....please? i had done a "landing strip" for many years, i liked it like that, but i have to say, i was worried about what gyno would think, and the people in the surgery. kept me from worrying about surgery,Hah, but now i have no secrets. well maybe a couple....

  • susanhg123

Agree. I REALLY want to know what the ONC said. Pretty please. Everything I have is scraggly. And sparse. And shedding again. Hair on my head fell out 3 times. Arm hair is going again-rest may follow. Vajazzling. Glue? Super glue? Most of us in medicine for a long time used super glue on our kids before medical super glue was invented. But what if the jewel-or what ever catches on our grannie panties and pulls-and the skin pulls off. Or do we have to wear a V-string if we are Vajazzled? Or commando as my son used to say-or the picture of Princess Kate? Do you do this to ones own self or invite a friend to trade?

This leads to many questions. Instead of going to bed where I belong as summer session begins tomorrow I will be meeting with Dr. Google. Again.

kathec - here's a link to "I got vajazzled and had a camera crew"

    Re: what the onc said:

After a couple of treatments he asked me if I had lost my hair down there.  I felt obligated to answer, considering he was my doctor, so I told him no.  He said "oh, you will - and then your husband will know what it's like to be with a 6th grade girl."

See why I didn't want to tell?  He left me speechless more than once.

    ====

marlene - ha ha at vajazzle marketing.  I'm suddenly reminded of a line from the movie Donnie Darko:  "sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!"

Susan, I think there are professional vajazzlers.  I don't know if you need a degree but I would hope one would need a license to decorate another human being's mons veneris with craft supplies.

Oh my LeeA. Another hysterical burst of laughter! Craft supplies. I can imagine the shopping trip to Hobby Lobby and the 40% off coupon! Hopefully the person would not use a hot glue gun.

Just watched a couple videos. Am so glad-again-i am not 20.

  • What a great laugh.  I could not sleep so I thought I would log in and see what was going on.  Now I am trying not to wake up the whole house. LOL.

vajazzled… That's not where I want to wear my bling.
