I would have loved to have gotten a pass on rads with my BMX, but alas, I had close margins even after BMX (< 1 mm).  This was because the DCIS part of my cancer was so extensive, I was small breasted, and had very little fat between my breast tissue and skin.  I fought it tooth and nail but in the end relented.  I still am disappointed I did rads.  f*cked my recon up in a major way and has caused me significant tightness in my pecs, affecting my shoulder and neck - needing therapy to address those issues.  But hey, I'm alive and so far (knock on wood) no local recurrence.   Not sure why I felt the need to rant on this today...I'm actually really happy with my life right now, lol!  But you all just got an earful so I guess I needed to get it out.  ha ha ha

Dance, that's ok! it was just your turn! i am surprised at you getting rads for dcis, tho i always am surprised at the one. for myself, i just think that that should be saved for a recurrence or if it was stage 2 or 3. but that's just me. thank you, lago, linda, momma, for your very good input, and i do feel better today. i feel pretty good today, man is out of town(i encouraged him!) so i am going to do as much decluttering as i can stand!

i meant to say also, that my next appt with the bs is in about two weeks, after my newly scheduled follow-up pet/cat scan. hopefully, they will find no animals in there. and then a colonoscopy next day,and day after that, her. so, i am seriously going to list my concerns, and hopefully straighten this out, once and for all!

Violet I also chose not to do rads after my latest BC dx. I've had implants since my BMX in 2000 (with an exchange in 2009). I had many of the same concerns that you have. The RO made me to come back and see him 6 months after he wanted me to start rads to make sure I was still ok with my decision. After having more time for research and thought I told him I was very happy with my decision and I still am. But it is a personal decision that each one of has to make based on the input from our docs and knowing what SE's we are and aren't willing to live with.

I dont feel like I have a choice regarding rads.  With the path showing 6 tumors in my left-and even with a masectomy-one tumor was close to wall.  I feel like I need to hit it with all I can to try to prevent reoccurence since I did not get a complete response from chemo.  I get my mapping done for rads next week.  Today was my last fill on my TEs.  My left is at 900cc, but high and wide-not filled out in the front at all so it is depressing.  I did get a script today from the PS to go look at prosthetic bras/forms.  Chemo-done, surgery-done.....rads is step three.  Ready to get it behind me.

    hi all!

Round 4 over and done. First of 3 started with herceptin for 90 min, then Benadryl and another antihistamine then taxotere for an hour. The ice packs nearly froze my fingers and toes off!! Lol. So far I'm just tired

Came home and had a salami sandwich. Lol

Now I wait for the appt with a dermatologist regarding the nail. The only thing that I can recall is catching the nail last year. It seemed to lift a bit and there was blood all around the outside of the nail as well as under the front. It hurt. To this day when I take a shower I sometimes feel that the water gets between my nail and skin. I know that nails fully grow every 6 months but also know that a trauma can take years to disappear. I do believe that if my onc thought that it was more serious that he would not have immediately said that it is not subungal melanoma. I don't get the impression that he says things just to relax you. Glad that he's getting me to a dermatologist to ease my mind. He is a great dr and so easy to talk to!!

I know - don't go to dr google!!!! Atleast the nail hasn't changed in 6+ months.

I hope that all are well and that my American sisters are preparing for July 4. I will be celebrating with you as I love the is and have many family members in ny, pay and fl

    God bless the USA!!!

FBN, I agree with Lago.  You look great bald.  I still have hair 3+ weeks after first AC treatment.  It has thinned a lot so I know it will eventually go.  I know I'm not going to look as good bald.  Glad I bought some scarves!!

FBN - you do look good bald! I'm keeping everything crossed that the Taxotere gives you very minimal ses and you'll breeze through them (((hugs)))

I think there is a lot to be said for listening to what the docs say, doing whatever research feels necessary for yourself, and then in the end, going with your GUT for what feels right for you.

Hardest part is listening to what your gut, your intuition tells you is the right thing.  It's hard to listen to it and hear it when your mind is going a million miles a minute b/c you are so afraid and anxious.   But once you do get in touch with your own intuition, you should find a sense of calm comes over you.  At least that has been my experience.

tx for loving me head ladies!  My hubby rubs and kisses it every day!!  Lol

So last night I started to develop abdominal pains which woke me up this morning. I'm also starting to develop a funny taste in my mouth

Despite the abdominal pains I pooped today!  These pains come and go. I have a laxative/stool softener prescribed by my onc called lacrulose which I was told to take if pooping stops. Anyone ever take this?

Other than that can't complain. Doing my best to forget about the nail. I am still of the opinion that if my onc thought that it was serious he wouldn't have made the immediate comment that it wasn't cancer

Funny. I'm now at peace with my bc diagnosis do now I have this to dwell on

    Lol

I wish all of my American friends a very happy Fourth of July!!!  God bless the USA and all of you!!

Footballnut it's not your MOs call on the nail. S/he may believe it's nothing but what if s/he says that and it is. Don't assume the worst. Go to the specialist and get if needed the test. Chances are in your favor it isn't cancer and you're just a Klutz and don't remember injuring it 8 months ago.

lago suspect that it will take 3-4 weeks for an appt. I'll definately follow up. If I don't have an appt by weeks end I'll call my nurse Monday morning. Never even thought to see a dermatologist about such a thing

Glad that I mentioned it to my onc

On the bald head topic, saw my 3 year old grand daughter this morning and remembering what I told.her last week she says  "you hair fall out Nanny?"  "Yes it did" I reply, removing my turban to show her for the first time. I got a long stare followed by "Put your hat back on!" Lol.

Debiann, my 3 year old granddaughter was there when my daughter buzzed the rest of my hair off on Mother's Day.  Her little lip stuck out and she started tearing up.  It broke my heart.  It was hard enough, but seeing how it affected her, was really tough.  Now I just wear my wig when I see her.

Football Even when I broke out on a rash on my leg during Herceptin treatment my onc sent me to a dermatologist. Managed to get an appointment in 6 weeks… but cancelled because it went away before the appointment. Yeah there was a "cancer" concern but I knew it wasn't. To this day we are not sure what caused it.

Tee hee, sorry guys, that was a right before chemo pic.  So no Miracle Grow on my hair Linda (you crack me up).  Here's one from last Friday, so hair, but a lot less of it.

FBN and Linda, fabulous bald heads!  You guys look beautiful and should be proud of how healthy you look!!!  And FBN, your nail injury sounds about right for that dark streak.  One thing to remember is the nail grows from a small group of cells right below the cuticle, so if you whack at them, you might be seeing a lot of issues for many months, just like you see, because they are peeved and not healed yer.  Thanks for the good wishes for the 4th.  It seems like our wonderful country is so hated these days, so it means a lot to hear support from our neighbors to the North.

Kathec, keep us posted, but I think the "therapeutic" word on your band might have been meant to say "she's got more appointments after this".  I do understand your fears though.  I have them all the time, just got through the 6 month mammo and BS appt, and asked my BS to do a second check on my breasts.  I'm honestly scared of recurrence.  Keep the faith and keep us posted.  My BS told me at my appt. last week that surgery and radiation make so many changes to the ever-changing breast tissue, and that I have to stay calm about things that I find.  Make an appointment she said but don't panic.

Happy July 4th to everyone, and yeap, to our Canadian family too--now all go out and BBQ!

I love the USA and over the years had tried many times to get a transfer. Unfortunately was unsuccessful. I have family in New York and Florida and love the whole country

I love getting to NYC whenever I can but love the variety that the east and west coasts bring. The people are awesome and the NFL rocks!!  Lol

I hope that all of my friends on the east coast are safe from Arthur. Enjoy your celebrations and a special request to my New York friends - Nathan's hotdogs and a Budweiser as a toast to the  hotdog eating contest at Coney Island!!

    :-)

....okay, i am totally creeped out now. i have been going through all my old medical papers that i had thrown in the box with disgust when i found some pretty serious mistakes in there. i had been going through them, so i could start a grievance procedure against my old breast surgeon.  any way, i had read you know, most of just the pathology reports and almost all clinic notes a year ago.. what i missed: the node in my armpit was bigger than the tumor in my breast. the one in my axilla was 2.5 cm's!! and another one almost that big!! it said the node was almost all replaced by tumor!!! how do they know it was actually a node at all, and not just a tumor in my arm??  EEEEWWW!!
