So...whats for dinner?

Carole, good luck with your surgery tomorrow. Hope you have little or no pain afterwards.
Bedo, so exciting about the wedding! Can't wait for the report.
Also wondering about Lacey's weekend.
Dsil made a pork green chili stew last night that included white beans and rice. It was excellent. Giant chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. For tonight she has planned a beef ragu with pasta and salad, creme brulee for dessert. Yes!

I love, love, love Barcelona! Our love our apartment. I love the people and the lifestyle. I love our terrace! Days are filled with museums and markets. I found some lovely cheeses yesterday, and for two days we have enjoyed a glass of wine with cheese before I start dinner. Tonight is leftover pork stew with white beans. Last night, the butcher ground some meat of our choosing and I made sautéed ground meat, some potatoes with spring onions and spring garlic and the tiniest haricot vert beans I have ever seen.
Today we went to the Museum Picasso which is in five old palaces. Interesting collection; certainly not complete and a special exhibit of Picasso-Dali influencing each other. After lunch, and a visit to the only Barcelona coffee roaster [what a great trip that was!] we went to the Museum of Barcelona History which is deep under the Cathedral. Romans streets, wine and garum factories, original walls, all incredibly well preserved. There are five other parts of this museum in other locations and our ticket is good for a year.
I have taken a bunch of pictures, but need to review before posting. Will try to get to that if I don't have too many glasses of wine tonight. I can not believe that we only have two more days here. Just not enough!

Susan - sounds like heaven.
Carole - You'll be in our thoughts tomorrow. Hope there are no complications and you can begin recovery with DH & everyone else waiting on YOU.

Thank you for the good wishes. I really appreciate the caring.
Susan, I love, love, love your having such a great time. It makes me happy because you're such a deserving person.
Nance, lucky you to be visiting a SIL who is a great cook. I know she feels just as glad when she visits you.
My surgery time has changed, darn it! Now we're to report to the surgery center at 6 am for a 7am surgery. I'm the first victim of the day. I do like my dr. a lot. The exciting thing about today's dr. visit was learning I can have a pain pump like I had with the BMX. Yay! I went to Sam's to have a prescription for Tramadol filled. My pharmacist doesn't want me to take it because I take Effexor. People who have a history of seizures should not take those two meds together. I assured him I've never had a seizure. Maybe the pain pump will do the trick and I can get by with Tylenol for Arthritis, which I took when I had the breast surgery. The Tramadol cost 77 cents.
My neighbor Arleen brought dinner for tomorrow night. I was so touched by her thoughtfulness. A golf friend is bringing dinner for Thurs. night. When she called and made the offer, I said, "Sure. That would be great."
Dinner tonight is lamb chops and salad and small potatoes.

MOmmy break out the grill!
Red Sleep in!
You two are like a couple of kids on summer vacation

Susan Do you want to live there part time?????
Sorry for anyone I forgot.
DD wedding Sat, I had to buy 2 dresses and "dress" shoes. Very hard to buy them and not have them look like they came from Payless. (Don't wear animal products)
BUT last few years eating fish-oh well, I do the best I can.
For dinner
Canned Salmon salad made with plain Greek yogurt, red wine vinegar, S+P olive oil, lemon juice, celery, radishes, cucumber, fresh dill and can't remember what else put on a plate of greens. And for lunch tomorrow too.
Landlord made a face when I mentioned putting a mini trailer in the back yard when I'm not using it.

carole - In your pocket for the surgery - sending good surgical vibes to you! Hoping this is the fix so you can go back to your enjoyable activities without pain.
susan - yay for Barcelona!
bedo - yay for the wedding!
Hello everyone! Exhausted from packing and loading DD's car and mine. Got home yesterday in time for my PT - appt was at 10:15 am and I had to drive four hours, so you all can do the math on what time I had to get up! My hip and thigh were pretty tight so I received a two person deep muscle release massage and 10 minutes of moist heat - awesome!
Today I went with my friend who is being treated for mesothelioma/sarcoma for MO appt and another round of chemo. He is doing well, blood counts are the best they have been, so that was encouraging. He is tolerating the chemo remarkably well, so I am very pleased about that. He is having a scan in two weeks to assess benefit, and modify the plan if chemo is not helping. Waters are muddied a bit because he ended up having rads prior to chemo to stop bleeding, so this scan may not be an accurate measurement of chemo benefit since there could have been growth between the initial PET, rads, and three rounds of chemo. The current plan is three more chemos and another PET. Afterward I went and had a pedicure, felt the need to relax a bit.
Dinner tonight was turkey/black bean enchiladas, some rice with salsa verde, and a salad on the side.

Special - I'm exhausted just hearing your schedule but glad your friend seems to be tolerating the chemo well.
Bedo - can hardly wait to hear about the wedding. Salmon sounds good.
Joyce - so glad you're able to post more often.
Carole - Even tho I'm not a morning person, I actually like the first slot since I think the surgeons & the nurses are fresh & bright. Check in when you can.
Dinner was something new. I bought some frozen PF Chang's Fried Rice last time I was at the store for emergencies. Tonight qualified. I had some chicken left that I had to eat or toss & I scooped the rice over that. Really quite good and the sodium is no worst than most soups.

minus - I am always worried the surgeons are not all the way awake when I have the first slot of the day, lol! I always ask "have you had some coffee? Like, how much coffee? Not so much that you feel shaky, right?" I have surgery on May 27th, to clean out leftover allograft material, re-close my skin (again...) and lipo/fat graft again, and you guessed it - first surgery of the day! Also, new plastic surgeon, so even thought I was with my friend and this doc for all of her surgeries and post-ops, this is the first time for surgery on me with this new doc. She is very detail oriented and thorough - even her pre-op stuff is, so I am encouraged.

I always seem to have surgeries in early July, right after the new group of residents arrive. Always hope that I get the ones who have caught on quickly!
Tonight I made sautéed chicken scallopine with garlic, fava beans and some fresh raviolis with pesto. Here are a few pictures of Barcelona. Doesn't begin to capture the city however.
The beaches, basilica of Saint Mary of the Sea, a public spigot, and morning light at the Sagrada Familia.

Oh Susan, I'm going to hate for you to leave too. I've enjoyed the trip through your camera lens. Thank you!
Bedo, I'm guessing you will look so fantastic in one of your new dresses no one will be looking at your feet.
Sk, thank God you're having surgery soon, so you can get some rest lol!
Carole, hope you're home and recovering without too much pain. Wishing you a speedy recovery and more nice friends to bring you meals! They are golden.
It's ended up that were staying an extra day so that DH and DBIL can finish a project they started. So tonight were having picnic food, burgers, corn on the cob, baked beans, etc. so the guys can work late. DSIL and I bought the ingredients for homemade pizzas on the grill tomorrow night.
Dsil and I went to a Mennonite greenhouse today where I bought more plants I don't need. Hi, my name is Nance and I'm a plant addict.

Dr. Groves looked alert but surgery was a little past 7 am. I was home by 11 am. No pain yet. Pain pump must be working. Not the same as pump for bmx. Looks like soft ball and is carried in pack with strap. Extra med can be pumped manually. No need so far. Sh taking good care of me. Scooter/walker works well

Carole, good that the pain is under control. Sharon's pain pump was like the one you just described and it worked quite well for her BMX.
Susan, thank you for taking the time to post the pictures.
Hi to everyone else.
I've been kind of dragging lately. Some of it is probably from my schedule...but whatever it was, is improving.
Dinner tonight is the lime juice-yogurt-creme chicken...it's quick, not too difficult to make and we like the taste.

Yay carol glad it's done and you're in no pain.
Special, in my experience first thing in am= good
Thanks for all the encouragement. I don't even own a dress so I rented two from rent the runway. (I hope that's not considered an ad) I never wear them, so what's the point in spending a lot to buy one?
Just got my super short and ugly finger nails and toenails done -I never do them.
And will get a spray tan tomorrow???!! I've never had one but I don't want to blind the guests with my white legs. and I will get my hair done.
I am so happy that my daughter found a good guy. It makes me happy that I know that there will be someone there for her as I get older. I feel as though I have raised her well and one "goal" has been accomplished my life.
I get to take care of the dog at the reception. I am so honored, and Nellie will be happy with me as her date as well as one of my oldest friends.
For dinner pop corn. Sorry, I want to fit into that dress

Catching up and checking in briefly....busy day of errands ahead. Will fill you in on wonderful, but exhausting grands' visit followed by a week full of drs appts. No time right now...later.....
Carole, so happy you and your not yet needed pump are doing well....and are receiving "culinary support"!
SK, I'm exhausted just reading about your week. Happy you got that post-trip massage...and wish the best for your upcoming surgery.
Nance, so glad you are having a great visit with your cooking partner in crime. Two lucky DHs there!
Bedo, have a wonderful time at DD's wedding!! Love that the pooch will attend with you.
Eric, hope that things can calm down for you and you can re-gain your typical energy level.
Joyce, love hearing from you more! Hope the house repairs are going well.
Susan, your photos and updates are so wonderful...you have us talking Barcelona over dinner nightly. A plan might be forthcoming, barring life getting in the way. Two sets of our friends have just returned from there and are encouraging us in that direction.
Hi to all those I missed...
Last evening a rare dinner at home....grilled salmon and asparagus, swt potato, arugula salad, whole-wheat pita.
Okay, way more time here than I planned.....will do update later....
Hope everyone is safe from Mother Nature's current wrath and enjoying a good day.

OK 3 pages behind. Will attempt to remain current. These have been a couple of weeks I don't want to repeat. North Texas is beginning to resemble bayou country. A break today and tomorrow (maybe or might have something during the night) and then back to rain/storms for the weekend. We had major pourdown on Sunday with a lot of flooding in the side yard. Not doing much laundry until the septic field dries out more. DH said just dishes and showers for a while. The drought map came out today and looks much better even for the part of the state NW of us toward the OK border.
Derm. visit on Monday was nothing. "those things we get as we get older" Offered to remove it if bothers me. Might consider it in the fall as I've met basic deductible this year. I still have to get to the optometrist. DH is going to our new replacement one tomorrow. Will see if he's any happier with her than we were last year. If not I have sev. recommendations from my glaucoma doc.
Susan what a marvelous trip. Sorry Valencia wasn't so hot ewww. Glad Barcelona was better. Now if I only read enough Spanish to read about the last minute restaurant lol.
Made an eggplant lasagna 2 days ago. Had it that day and yesterday for leftovers. Was OK the 1st night but much better the 2nd. No pasta. I overbought on cheese at Central Market. I know have 4 cheese Italian grated (1/2 a tub) and a ball of fresh mozzarella to find something to do with. I did happen to ask about Parmesan rinds and they did have tubs of them. I need to pop that baby in the freezer somewhere close at hand. Tonight is 2 lonely hamburgers from Tuesday night and something from some rapidly aging white potatoes.
Sorry I did see on the last page that everyone was worried about us. Thanks so much. The one really scary day I had - beyond the flood on Sunday - was Thursday. Sitting in the den with south facing windows about 5:30. Realized suddenly I could barely see DH's truck just across the driveway from the blowing rain. I skedaddled out of there back into main part of house. Later that storm did produce a small tornado in the next county north.
I had a great time with my nursing school buddy visiting from Chicago. We had about 2 hours to visit, went to a local place the Ol' South Pancake House and had dutch baby pancakes. She had just come from a luncheon but had no dessert. It was a good catch up time. And thankfully the storms Friday held off until later in the evening.
Bedo what website? Something about eagles I guess from your comment. The salmon salad sounds good. Retirement sounds good. You can always pick up side gigs right? Hope the weather is perfect for DD's wedding.
I agree with Minus. Special I can't read you schedule without pausing to go "wow whatta girl" lol. Packing, moving, driving, friending, cooking. When does Special get special time?
Carole so glad your foot surgery is behind you and you're on the recovery road. Golf games await.
And that is what has gone on since I last posted on the 5th. I will try faithfully to keep up better.

You guys are making me laugh - I need to have surgery to rest - lol! Luv - apparently that will be my "special" time!
After my lovely massage and moist heat at PT on Monday, today was a work day - I wore a long sleeved shirt and had to do the elliptical - I was a sweaty mess! Spent yesterday cooking up a storm for DD since she now has no dishes or pans at her house! I made her a bunch of salads - 3-bean, broccoli, pasta with veggies, roasted some chicken for her to add to the salads, a breakfast casserole she can nuke and have with bananas. Also a pasta recipe fro my MIL, peppers and ground beef, elbow macaroni and tomatoes/tomato paste and spices. She also has beef stew in the freezer from when I was up there last. That will tide her over until she comes back for a job interview on Monday - she left this morning at 5 am - she said everyone wanted to see what all was in her cooler - they thought fish from her boat but she said no, stuff my mom cooked for me!
bedo - we need wedding pics - especially of the tanned and beautiful you! And the happy couple. And the dog. P.S. hold your breath during the spray tan.
carole - glad you're doing well and not in pain - yay!
susan - thanks for the pics - beautiful! Makes me want to go to Spain immediately.
eric - hope your energy returns soon - but pay attention if it doesn't and take care of yourself.
minus - it is difficult to go with my friend with the mesothelioma/sarcoma but I feel that they need support, and someone who can decode cancer stuff for them - they are a bit overwhelmed. It is so sad that his situation is so serious and he is so young - this is a devastating diagnosis with no discernible cause - he did not work in a high risk situation, they can't figure out what caused this. This is one of those situations where it is the right thing for me to do, regardless of how hard it is.
Everyone is so busy with visitors, family and fun stuff - I am so glad that those in the north are having some warmer weather but it seems like spring brings crazy weather too!

A view of my mismatched feet.0 -
carole - but I like how your ace bandage and little sock on your other foot do match!

Oh Carole, poor foot!

DSIL and I made homemade ricotta today on a whim, so one of our pizzas tonight will be a pizza blanco with mushrooms or roasted tomatoes. Love the homemade ricotta. We're also having some slightly sweetened on strawberries we picked from the garden this afternoon. Yum!
Anxious to get back to my own home tomorrow to see if my garden has been ravaged by groundhogs or other varmints.

Up early this morning, doing the last of the packing and cleaning the apartment. We have to say good-bye to Barcelona and get on a plane to Istanbul. I am expecting a completely different type of city, to say the least.
Happy wedding, no pain recovery, be safe from tornados and hail, no groundhogs, good luck to both the DD's, and I am sure I have missed someone and something....

Susan - have a safe trip. Does anyone else remember the song "You can't go back to Constantinople" - around 1955 by the Four Lads? It's one of those that you can't get out of your head whenever you hear the name Istanbul.
0 -
Thanks for the earworm Minus, I'll be singing that all day now lol!
0 -
Oh yes Minus. Do remember that one though a little b4 my time. Of course I had to go to YouTube to find it. Came with some lovely pictures of Istanbul.
Nancy - missed your comments about your colonoscopy. Hope nothing comes of the "removals".
Susan - wishing you an easy flight to Istanbul and many adventures to come. This is where you have family, right? I still have not gotten back to review the pages I skipped.

Hello from middle of nowhere Illinois! Recently diagnosed and found this forum to be so supportive and helpful. Looks like leftover fixings to make taco salad tonight but great news is it's always yummy. DH cooked up the taco meat and I did all the prepping of veggies.
0 -
Welcome Tempy. I am the world's worst at posting but like I said yesterday am trying much better to keep up.
Yum taco salad sounds good. What kind of dressing do you use? I think that might be something to make tomorrow but lol I would need to buy salad. We have actually run out of fresh bread. I have frozen whole wheat grainy stuff for my toast but DH takes a sandwich to work every day on yuck white bread. I think I see a grocery run tomorrow morning.
Have a bunch of bagged chicken breasts thawing. Thinking we will have salsa chicken. I must have 3-4 bags of cheese with just bits left in them. Have a wonderful can of Trappey's black beans with onion, garlic and olive oil. They were supposed to be black bean dip last week for a church function I did not make it to so good use for them tonight.
0 -
Tempy welcome. We'll look forward to some new meal ideas.
Luv - OK, enough already. Yes, we've been in a drought for a long time, but you can keep the rest of the rain out there for awhile. I'm heading the team to register residents for the community pool this weekend & next and they'll have to pick their way around puddles & jump out from under thunder claps to be there.
I'm thinking Susan's cousins were from Paris??
Special - did you get a couple of days off after all the cooking for your DD?
Carole - how's it going with the foot today? Recovery day 3 right? Did you say you only have to use the walker for a week? Then what?
Nance - I love the term "earworm". I've never heard it before but I know just what you mean.
Thinking about Bedo at the wedding.
Dunch was most everything that needed to be cooked. A lovely pork loin that I roasted mostly plain - only sprinkled lots of tarragon & dill weed. (and yes I ate 1/2 of it in one sitting) A bag of Steakhouse Roasters (fingerling potatoes if they don't have these in your part of the country) quartered, tossed in olive oil w/garlic and roasted w/the remaining half of a huge 1015 Onion. A couple of organic Jersey sweet potatoes that I baked & will save for tomorrow. Two slices of Rosemary bread. Tomorrow will be a vegetarian meal since I have a bunch of veggies that are approaching end of life.

Taco salad is a favorite choice for me at Mexican restaurants.
0 -
tempy - welcome!
I usually use taco sauce for the dressing on my taco salad. I used to put a dollop of sour cream and one of guacamole, but now just do the guac since I am non-dairy (makes me sound like coffee creamer or whipped topping!) - it kind of mixes with the taco sauce and makes a dressing all by itself - yay!
minus - no rest for the wicked - I had a pre-op this morning at 8:15 for surgery on the 27th, then drove to the base (an hour each way) to get blood work for surgery - military insurance requires I have it done there since they have the lab available, insurance only pays for labs done at the MO office for oncology purposes. Also picked up a prescription refill for DD while I was there, then drove up to have my car serviced at 1 pm - finally got home about an hour ago due to some wiring snafu to the phone charger thing in the dash. The good news - I have some pasta leftover that I made for the DD so no cooking tonight! This is a recipe my MIL made for DH and his sibs - it is called Mulligan Goulash - no idea why. She usually made it when she and my FIL were going out for the evening - it is easy and good. Everything in your dunch sounds glorious!
