I'm done with rads.  No more treatments.  Having a huge glass of wine right now.....hell probably the whole bottle before night is over.  Going to the bonfire right now....have a few things to throw in there.

HI - I finished Rads on Monday and thought I would check out this forum.  I am so glad to have this part of my treatment done.  Cant wait for the healing to begin.  Right now I have pretty bad skin,  large patches of skin falling off and my skin is very very dry.  I keep the lotion on and the cream from the RO.  Hope it clears up soon.

looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi - Today was my last rad tx!  I rang that bell long and hard!!  So glad to be done but feeling a bit like a baby bird who has been kicked out the nest.  My skin has held up pretty well but I  have an open spot under my breast which is pretty darn sore.  My RO told me my skin will look worse before it gets better but I should be mostly healed in about 2-3 weeks...I guess we'll see about that.

Champagne is chilling for a toast to a new normal -- wondering what that will look like?

Congrats kingjr66, el-jay and leslie for finishing rads.  Now let the healing begin for both of you.  I would recommend you keep using the creams for at least a couple of months even if everything looks good.

woohoo Kingjr66 and e-jay for finishingrads.  Hope the wine was wonderful and once you finish it is amazing how quickly you do heal.  Try to get lots of rest right now that is important.

Leslie congrats to you as well, enjoy the champagne.

I now have arthitis in my left shoulder.  My PCP says my immune system is shot between rads and tamoxifen.  Nothing we can do about it now but treat the arthritis.  I am having BMX on MOnday so cannot take the steroids to help the inflamation.  so for now pain pills is all I can do until after sugery.  I cannot believe how bad this hurts.

Sherry can you take Krill oil? It works well with the joints.  And being both from Texas this is a hard one to say to you, but can you go meatless for a while? I can't believe how I boosted my immune system that way.

sagina - What is krill oil?

    Sherryc Member Posts: 4,503

Gina I have not looked at Krill oil, I do take Fish oil but am off of it right now as well because of surgery.  I actually have cut down on red meat.  But I do eat alot of chicken and some turkey.  DH makes it hard to cook for because 2 years ago he got some bad shrimp at a restraunt and it made him sick and now he cannot eat fish.  He just gags on it.  He used to love fish. I'm trying to go more meatless altogether but sometimes that is hard.  I am going to have to do some research on diet and arthritis.

I finished rads on Monday and we had a celebration party at work on Tuesday. So glad to be finished with this part. My skin turned pink the last couple of treatments. Anyone have a sore throat, this is what bothers me the most. Hurts to eat but can drink with no problems. Trying to eat soft food and lots of ice cream :)

capinva - Congrats on finishing rads - now let the healing begin.  Keep using those creams for a while.  Your skin will thank you for it.  I can't help you with the sore throat issue - perhaps someone will come along with a similar experience.

Omaz~A friend gave me a bottle when I finished treatment. She said she had noticed such a difference in her overall feeling, she wanted me to feel better too!  I take a lot of vitamins now, I figure they can't hurt....

    krill oil from webmd~

Krill oil is oil from a tiny, shrimp-like animal. Baleen whales, mantas, and whale sharks eat primarily krill. In Norwegian, the word "krill" means "whale food." People extract the oil from krill, place it in capsules, and use it for medicine. Some brand name krill oil products indicate that they use Antarctic krill. This usually refers to the species of krill called Euphausia superba.

Krill oil is used for heart disease, high levels of certain blood fats (triglycerides), high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer, osteoarthritis, depression, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and painful menstrual periods.

    How does it work?
Krill oil contains fatty acids similar to fish oil. These fats are thought to be beneficial fats that decrease swelling, lower cholesterol, and make blood platelets less sticky. When blood platelets are less sticky they are less likely to form clots.

Congratulations to kingjr66, el-jay, capinva, and leslie for finishing rads!!! I remember the day I finished and it was a wonderful day.

Regarding Krill oil, I take MegaRed. It is available at Walmart or Sam's or wherever. A little pricey, but the research on it sounds like it could be worth it.

Is anyone else experiencing a flushing whenever your heart gets pumping a little more, or when you are exposed to heat - from the sun from the oven?

Yesterday I was running around the office getting the conference room ready, up and down the stairs etc.  My back turns red, then I start itching all over.  It also happens with some wine????

Maybe not chemo or rads related, but I never had this before.  It started when I was in chemo.

Sulfate allergy for the wine, other wise, I am not sure.  Are you taking any medications, Gina?  I take Relpax for migraines and my chest flushes when I take a dose.  Too hot in Texas maybe?  It has been in the 80's this week in Buffalo, so can only imagineWink

Congrats kingjr66, el-jay, capinva and leslie for finishing rads!  It's such a relief, isn't it?  It is true, it does get a bit worse, before it gets better, but it does heal quickly.  Like all the other ladies said, keep creaming up and let the healing start!

Capinva-I started to have the same issue towards the end of rads...my RO said that sometimes areas nearby the radiated area can get small doses of radiation at the same time.  Mine cleared up quickly once rads stopped and I haven't had any issues since.

Sherry, I'm sorry that you are in so much pain...praying that surgery goes well, you recover quickly and the pain eases and disappears.

Gina--yep, I know what you are talking about...I chalk it up to "hot flash"...it usually subsides pretty quickly..but I have already started using the A/C already!  :)

Regarding the Genie bras:  I'm not that impressed with them...maybe it's because I didn't actually get them from ordering on TV, but at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  I've got some large tatas though.  I'm looking into getting some new bras...again!  I'm interested in those Glamorize ones!  I forgot who posted the brand (can't go back to check or I'll lose the post, sorry), but thanks! Those Glamorize ones look like the would "hold it all in"...I need that.  Been doing Boot Camp since January and man, do I bounce all over if I"m not wearing at least 2 bras!

Always praying for you my sisters...always coming to the boards, just not posting as much lately.  You ever get that feeling that what you have to say really isn't that important?  UGH...

    Love, love, love!
