After Radiation

Hello gals, Just wanted to let ya all know that I still have a persistant cough. I am feeling better but now hot flashes. I am so happy the cool air is on the way. I also have been experiencing some pain in the left breast. I also started to develop a very sensitive area under my breast on the bra line. It hurts almost as much as the seeping sores I got from rads. Oh well just another day in the life of a survivor. I am so happy that I can say that. I did have my first mammo on Monday getting results this Thursday. The tech asked me if I had rads then when she saw my breast she backed up and said oh! That made me feel like crap. I have to say the marking of my scars made me feel a little out of sorts for the day. Bad memories I guess.
I am starting to get tired of how insensitive people are to this whole BC thing. Oh well I am in a crappy mood. I hope you are all doing well.
I can relate to being tired too. I start something and it seems to take me days to get over it. I am going to look into WW I need to get this weight off. I was using HCG before BC but my Dr says no way now. Always when something works....
Thanks for letting me rant for a moment. I am sure my hubby thanks you too!

I am using udder cream everyday. I am still wearing the same bra I have for a while. It's worn out and has a lot of give. However, the elastic is the issue. I am just being whimpy I guess.

dolphins............I too have a cough....somedays its not as bad as others, but its there just the same..............I have allergies, but this cough began before allergy season did, so I'm figuring it could be Rads...............also, the AI's cause a cough, so if your on one of them, that could also be it...........I am on Femara............good luck, and hope you feel better.

Did any of you catch the NPR radio program "On Point" 10/19/11 With Tom Ashbrook and Karuna (sp) Jagger on the use of the color pink by corporations to sell products? Very revealing and interesting. I think you can Google it. Eliza

I can't figure out if my cough is from rads or allergyMO says not from rads.0
-
Most MOs will never blame anything on the rads. Most Drs will never tell you the S/E of the damn drugs either. We have to do the homework.Ducky knows a lot...If she thinks its from the rads i would like one of the sistas to say otherwise. Why dont you go to an allergy Dr.?0
-
Thanks granny for the suggestion. I guess I just have't done that because I want to run away from more problems. I can bearly handle this. Sorry, don't mean to be a baby. I just want these doctors to be professional and know what they are doing and saying. You would think that an oncologist, MO or RO, would know some answers or just acknowedge that it could be from rads, even if they do not know for sure.0
-
stage1 sorry they won't validate your symptoms. My docs are open to anything can be a side effect since they really don't know how your body is going to handle something....like me not being able to be in the heat very long without a horrid itching sensation - like when you were a kid and were roll around in grass....like that.

Hello ladies...Today I finished rads! So happy that is over with, now just need to heal and sleep some would be nice. I have to go back in 2 weeks and see the RO, I guess to make sure things are healing ok. I understand why, just think its a waste of time because the jerk never did anything for any of my complaints during Rads, so why would he do anything after, except bill the insurance for another visit. Anyways, I asked the receptionist when I made my 2 week appt., if after that I would be done seeing my RO. She said no, I have to see him again in 3 months, 6 months and a year. I am assuming this would be to order mammograms.? The thing is I hate my RO and really don't want to follow up with him. Can't I follow up with the BS or MO? I have met my MO during the meet and greet meeting, but have not had an appointment with her yet. When is that to happen? Any insight on what is next would be appreciated.
Also, just so you all know I did not have to do Chemo, just lumpectomy and rads, there was talk about doing hormone therapy, but it hasn't been mentioned again. Doctors suck at telling you what is next!

Welcome Stormy - Doing the happy dance - rads are done! I also hated my RO and only saw him one week after for a "skin check". That is because I burnt and had a topical infection that he denied was caused by rads. Then why did I have to take a break? DUH? My MO schedules my mammos and any other tests I need. My MO is wonderful and I trust what he tells me. So I know what you are talking about. It seems thinks are done differently all over the US. I no longer see my BS or RO. Well, like I said, my RO was a friggin moron. Talk to your MO and see if he/she will do all your follow up stuff.

I too did not get along well with my RO and once done, was asked to come back for follow-ups. I said I have to follow up with my Medical Oncologist and I assume he is a doctor, so unless they could coordinate these appts, I would just come back for the one visit every three months ... thanks!

Hi everyone. The BS office called back today. Getting an Ultrasound of the radiated area Friday morning, more to rule things out than to find stuff. Looking for cancer of course, and blood clots....I wonder what else an ultrasound can see? Always looks so gray and fuzzy to me.

Sagina, Keeping fingers crossed and send positive thoughts. Let me know what time you are going so I can jump in your pocket. Please make sure they are BIG pockets - something tells me it is going to get crowded in there - LOL

Any thoughts on the new digital mammograms vs. regular mammograms? Are the digital more expensive? Are that better at detecting BC early?

Tori----you got the bras and didnt start to wear them yet?How long did it take you to get them?My friend is waiting a long time.....How are you doin?
Gina----im in your pocket.Move over JO JO!!!!!!! I saw on facebook about the earthquake..

I go tomorrow for my 6 month screenings. Having Mammo and US done. I hate these 6 month roller coasters. Went today for my first PT and she gave me some good stretches for my pec and she massaged it. Said it was really tight.
Gina I thought I felt something this morning but had no idea it was an earthquake until I heard the news.

Someone started a new thread called BENEFITS OF RADIATION AFTER BREAST CANCER SURGERY.....I started to read it but I am still in my friends house and she has the TV soooo loud i cannot concentrate. It looks like we did the right thing tho.cannot wait to get home.everyday something else happens that i have to wait a little longer.Im gonna bump it up....hint hint JO JO !!!!!!!!0

Personally, Stormy, I think the digital mammos are much better. At least for me, the old fashioned one showed some irregularity, but the digital showed a crystal clear image of my little cancer.

Slow to get on here, but I will be a week finished with my rads (5 day with SAVI) treatments as of tomorrow. I had a CT/PET scan yesterday and it seems my radiated area has flared up a bit after it - maybe it's my imagination. Not a lot of skin irritation but still a lot of soreness, especially where the SNB was done and below my breast where my bra hits. Anyway, glad to be on this side of rads and now waiting for Oncotype results, CT/PET results and lab test on my iron levels.

Stormy, they are supposed to be better for things that can be seen on regular mammo. Neither regular or digital diagnostic mammograms saw my 1.4cm palpable lump - only ultrasound and MRI where it was obvious to my doctors that it looked very suspicious of cancer. So, me and my breasts cannot count on mammograms at this time.

Granny-I got the Genie Bras at Bed Bath & Beyond...they were $19.99 for 2 of them. The exact ones on the TV just there instead....0

sarytyr-glad you are finished with rads. What kind did you have? glad you found us here. It is a great group of ladies and several of us Texas gals hang out around here. Where are you from? Keep us posted on your oncotype dx. Many of us have had that and it really helps to make a decision regarding treatment plan.

Hi ladies. I finished rads today and stumbled on to this thread. I'm confused about all of the follow ups. My RO said 1 month, and that seems reasonable for a skin check up. BS has been seeing me every month for a variety of reasons, most recently for an irregularity he wants to watch (gulp) and my MO who has never seen me with my shirt off told me I would have mammos every year. I stared at him until he said "I can see that you'll expect them more frequently at first." So, my main questions are 1) how long after surgery/rads did you wait before getting a mammo? 2)Has anyone had a follow up scan of a different type eg, US or MRI? Finally 3) Does anyone have lumpiness around the incision sites? (Not immediate scar tissue area.) Thanks for any input. Susan
