Carole I did that flight plus another couple of long haul flights when I did my world trip in 2011. I didn't think I would sleep either but managed never the less. It wasn't solid sleep but it was enough that I arrived fresh and alert enough to enjoy the day of arrival to the fullest.
Kathy I'm pretty sure the BC is on the move as the node in my neck is the same one that was up when I was dx stage IV. Luckily it disappeared with treatment but has returned larger that it was before........I have also notice I get way short of breath for seemingly no reason so that surely needs to be looked at. There are a few other things going on that need to be checked so I'm under no allusion that it is moving. It just means a change of treatment and I carry on as per usual........lol.......no big deal, it is what it is.
Had a great Christmas with all the family and the last GS will be returned home tomorrow.....he is my youngest (15) and the son of my son who died when this fellow was just nine month old.........I love having him as he reminds me a lot of his dad, asperges and all......lol. He is happy to just chill and play word games with me and eat constantly.....a typical teenage growing boy........thank goodness he likes my cooking....hahahahaha!
I also baked my ham again this year and it seems to go down well.....the glaze is very simple, just orange juice, honey and a little soy but it imparts such fabulous flavor!
Kathy I'm sure your DS's MIL won't be that bad living near him and I'm sure she could possibly be a great help if she's close enough to babysit on occasion.
Looking forward to 2014........not long now........and hopefully it will bring a whole lot of good for everyone.
Love n hugs all. Chrissy

Kathy, my mother was so over-bearing that I moved across the state to get away from her as soon as I graduated from college. DH and I were most apprehensive when she followed a few years after Dad died (she was 68). We set s few ground rules like no surprise drop in visits and everything worked out surprisingly well.

It was great fun. We spent the night there in the Mission Inn. Our son and daughter in law met us for dinner. It is truly a magical place all the time but especially at Christmas when they have the festival of the lights.

What is Olle Bollun and apple flappen? That sounds like something I would like to make just so I could say I made Olle Bollun and apple flappen. When I lived in Texas, the tradition was to eat black eyed peas on New Year's for good luck. I think I will cook up a pot.
ChrissyB, you have the most wonderful attitude. I think I'm going to try to adopt a habit of asking myself how would ChrissyB handle this & just figure that's the best approach.
SocalLisa - Love how your pictures magically twinkle.
Happy New Year, all y'all

Here in south Louisiana the customary New Year's Day meal includes black-eyed peas and cabbage. DH cooked a pot of black-eyed peas today with ham. Tomorrow I'll cook a corned beef brisket with cabbage, carrots and potatoes. Also some brown rice to go with the peas..
Tonight we're going out to dinner with two other couples. The restaurant is less than 5 min. from our house. Then we'll come home and will be in bed before midnight.
A happy and healthy 2014 for all of us!

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!!!!
Here's hoping this year will be a good one and only bring blessings for all of us.
Ziggy, Ollie Bollen and Apple Flappen are traditional Dutch treats made and consumed on New Years Eve. Ollie Bollen are a yeast based dough filled with small black currants and deepfried and coated with powdered sugar the Apple Flappen are basically apple fritters coated with either powdered or cinnamon sugar........both are delicious and this is what they look like. Ollie Bollen at the back.
Lol, sorry the pic is so big but I just copy/pasted from FB and I can't, for some reason, resize. I took this pic to tease my daughters.......I think it worked.......lol.

It worked for teasing me, chrissy!
I am back on the diet after taking some time off for the holiday and my DS being home. I have to get weighed on Thursday so trying to be really good.
Happy & healthy new year everyone!!!

DH and I went out for dinner with some friends (14 of us) and had a great time! Nobody's a real party person and we were home by 9:30, but it was fun. Even had a frozen margarita to celebrate! The traditional New Year's Day meal here in the South is black eyed peas with ham and collards. Now DH loves collards but I can't abide them. Folklore says that the green of collards promises money in the new year, so for me the greens in a salad should cover it!
I wish for all of us a happy and healthy New Year, full of blessings and only good things! Happy New Year, everyone!

Kathy, our new year's day greens are cabbage. I always find collards a little bitter.
Chrissy, those unpronounceable goodies look delicious! All the sugary foods are gone from this house, thank goodness. That's the way I resist refined sugar. It's not allowed in the house!
Our dinner today was delicious. I'm about to have a little dinner "snack."

Carol, those treats are just that, once a year treats as they are only made for New Year. I don't usually eat a lot of sugar but I have a Dutch husband that has a very sweet tooth so unfortunately I still need to bake for him and make treats that will satisfy him or he eats waaaay tooooo much chocolate and ice cream and anything else that is loaded with sugar.
Oops Kathy, I forgot to eat greens on New Years Day so I guess I won't be getting rich this year.......never mind, as long as I have enough to pay the bills I'm happy.
Time for me to start getting things organized for the new exhibition called 'Country Women' in which I have been asked to participate. I'ts not until June or July but it is both photography and textile and I have been asked to exhibit in both sections.........so.......guess who is going to be busy for the next few months!
Take care all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
