Carole I have done the same thing as your mom.....lol......when I was young and my family were little, money was pretty tight so I used to go into stores, find a garment I liked, turn it inside out to look at how it was constructed and then exit the store and draw what I had seen before I forgot. Then I'd go and buy some fabric and make my new dress, skirt, top what ever. I used to do the same with the kids as well. For years I made all of our clothes except the undies as I also knit and crochet........as my Nan used to say, all the practical skills.........lol. I must admit, we were very well dressed for very little money. It's amazing what you can find in the second hand and aide shops........I used to find a lot of clothes that I would buy cheap and remake or ones that had a lot of fabric that I could use to make totally different things.
I have always made all my own drapes as having them made to suit or even buying ready to hang ones is very expensive!
I will admit that I haven't sewn a whole lot since my dx although I have done loads of other stuff........I just didn't seem to have the confidence used to have but since the wedding last year when I made so much I feel like I can tackle just about anything again........lol.
DH saw me altering my jeans and has bought out of his closet two pairs of jeans he wants patched.......he has gone through the same knee on both pairs. I didn't realize he still had them.....but obviously they are his favorites.......lol. I hate patching knees on jeans but I will do it for him.

I get my read-made curtains and Home Depot and Walmart!!! VERY cheap and some are even lined for darkness!!!! I have always been able to find great ones and they drape beautifully. To buy that much fabric would be SO cost-prohibitive here! I can get a 54x84" panel for under $15/$40 depending on how fancy it is. I could never buy that much fabric for that price.

just got back from Home Depot to buy some flowers to plant. Man! Is it hot! Already 88 in the shade. I will have to put them in during the early morning hours. What a difference a day makes, I am a new person since getting good scan. Wilsie

Glad to hear that Wilsie!!! Nice to be able to breathe all the way down, isn't it??

Barbie I gained cuz I screwed it up. The pharmacy dispensed x amount. It was suppose to be x+y. I didn't catch it. I needed to refill but didn't realize it. That's why I had left over. It was a small amount. Didn't make sense that they didn't fill the whole thing. Another friggen life lesson. I stopped the cytomel a week sooner than needed. Then add the two plus weeks of nothing that = 3 weeks. Bad. Very bad.
Yay everyone got the referral to Moffit
Lostboob Hi, saw you are here too. Any more thoughts about changing your name?
Chrissy, You can make anything LOL. I'm so lazy. Do you still use those warm up jackets? They last forever. I was very happy you took them. The cotton is so versatile. They were just too hot for Florida. Besides they reminded me too much of work
Do any of you ever get to the Warm and Fuzzy's thread? I started it in Feb. Teka is mentoring it for me. She's doing a FABULOUS JOB!. It's the one fun thread that I created. Maybe I'll retire from the serious threads LOL.
Chrissy and all, I put a hyperlink in W&F's topic box. Chrissy if you put one in your box, it would make traveling easier. Anecortes Girl and I, hyperlinked YKYACPW & Warm and Fuzzy's. I did the same with Insomnia thread. It's like a Star Trek Transporter. The thread is evolving. At first it was a storage area for pics etc. When you go there you can read what I changed the mission too.
It's very visual and very funny
I was hoping that SoCal would post some of her pics there. Yoo hoo SoCal
Carol Hi I haven't been her much since you joined ---HI waving, Thanks for your info on thyroid. Doesn't surprise me what your doc said. I feel like I'm collecting cancers. UGH.

Sas, I look at Warm and Fuzzies all the time. Good thread, nice break from the serious. I will try to post something. Should not be too hard, I have 3 warm and Fuzzies by my side (doggies). I would be talking to myself if I didn't have them. They are a lot of company. Anyone else live alone?

Wilsie I am happy you had good scans. It is just so difficult to remain calm while waiting for results.
I love going to the warm and fuzzy thread and seeing all the cute photos. It gives me a lift every day.
Chrissie you can draft a pattern! Wowza that is a skill I have admired. There is a lot of talent here.

I hadn't posted much in a couple of days and wow--such a lot to catch up on.
Nancy, all good thoughts and wishes for you and your daughter. Hope she got into rehab and will be moving forward from here, and hugs to you too. I'm sure this isn't easy for either of you.
Sas, it's good to see you but I'm sorry to hear about the thyroid cancer. Hope you'll continue to make the good progress you're making. I do sometimes lurk on the Warm and Fuzzy thread but don't post anything as posting pictures is well known as beyond my ability! Once in a while I can, but not often.
I've been on anastrozole (arimidex) for almost 3 1/2 years and in 12/14 I'll have 1 year to go unless the onc. wants me to go longer. Bone density has stayed stable but I can't walk as long or as far as I once did without joint pain. I just deal with it, and like many look at it as "insurance", if there is any such thing!
DGS had his Preschool graduation tonight and his 5th birthday party is Saturday, so big week for him. Time passes so fast once the children leave home, marry, and have their own babies! Too fast!
Chrissy, I'm in awe of you making your own patterns. I did take home economics in HS, but like my mother before me had no talent for sewing. I can hem something but that's about it!

Thanks girls!......lol. I am self taught so I probably make loads of mistakes but what I do works for me. I started young......at thirteen I had some regular baby sitting for a couple of families and I used to take my knitting with me........it ended up I would knit for these families and I used to charge two shillings (that's equivalent to 15 cents) a ball so my hands were always busy. My first sewing adventure was at fourteen and that was a linen pant suit which turned out not bad and I used to wear it with pride. I used a bought pattern and just followed the instructions......lol. I have always been the type of person that sometimes find general instructions laborious so have found over the years easy ways of doing things.
Cathy yes they grow so quickly and once at school seem to grown even quicker! One minute they are babes and the next teenagers but its fun to watch the process.....lol.
Barbe I pretty much have lived in houses that don't have standard drop for the window so for me it has always been a need to make the drapes as I could never get the right length at the stores.
Wilsie, what sort of flowers did you get?
Sas, I don't know how to insert a live link........lol.......I will have to play I think.
A sad day for me as I have to take my old cat to the vet and have her put to sleep......she is 23 and has dementia as well as a cancer on her nose. The time has come as she is very uncomfortable and at times obviously in pain........sigh......I knew this day would come but I have been putting it off for as long as possible and it would be very cruel for me not to release her.
Take it easy all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Hugs Chrissy. The house seems so empty afterwards. I've seen little ghost kitties who come back to say, I'm OK.

Chrissy, I'm so sorry about your cat. To live to be 23 is absolutely incredible, but it's a testament to your loving care through the years. Not anything to say to make it easier because it can't be made easier. Just plenty of love and hugs for you! She obviously had the best life, loving and knowing she was loved too.

Aw Chrissy, it is so difficult to say goodbye to our pets isn't it? I agree, your kitty's longevity speaks to your fine care. I have two cats 17 and 18 and know that time is coming soon for one of them. I am sending you many blessings.
Hugs Ginger

here's what I got. Miscellaneous plants that will grow in the sun.

Thanks girls for the loan of your shoulders......sorry I've made them wet. I will miss her and I guess it will take me a while to stop looking for her........I will remember her with fondness.......the vet agreed, it was time.
Wilsie those plants are going to look great in your garden..........when they are planted will you share a pic please?
Feeling a little flat tonight so I think an early night just might be the order.
Take care all!

Glad you're all enjoying W&F's. Teka's just doing superlative. I almost choked when she said she was going to take June off. I didn't know how I could keep up with it and the others. I deal with poop, she deals with laughter and brightness and.......just joking I can post too.QCA hello been awhile. Congrats with the DGS. Such fun. Don't worry about W&F's Other people are starting to post. It finally caught on LOL not many places on BCO that it's no talking

Chrissy, hugs to you and your fur-baby. I know how hard it is, but if she were in the wild she would have taken herself away by now..... I`ve lost 5 over the past 22 years with DH and only one had to be put down at 21. The vet was angry she was dehydrated!! I said THAT IS WHY WE ARE HERE!!!!! doi!!!! Then he shaved her leg before giving the needle which really distressed her. I asked why and he said to keep the area germ free. Doi!!!!!! It was a peaceful passing. He said I could stay with her as long as I wanted. I asked why I would want to stay now she was dead! The other cats died painfully, so I feel kind of glad that I was able to give the oldest a peaceful passing. You will see her again at the Rainbow Bridge.
Funny thing, when I mentioned the Rainbow Bridge ages ago in a post, someone replied that she heard the Rainbow Bridge was a pretty important link between the USA and Canada but had no idea about the pets going there!! I choked on my tea.......

Barbe, that's funny! someone sent me that poem when I lost my,Schnauzer at,age 19. It is beautiful and makes me cry, even though I haven't lost a pet in years. Wilsie

Good Morning, Ladies!

Thanks Barbe.........yes she is pain free and her death was a calm one....the vet was lovely and very caring both of Sookie and myself.
Love that story of the Rainbow Bridge.......lol.
Wilsie is that where you are going to put your new plants? What a lovely garden area! The color of that Lilly is so vibrant......just lovely!
I had a quiet day today.......missed a little black furry meowing at me when I went to the fridge......it will get easier I know. Tomorrow I will do my laundry and pack my bag ready for a three day trip to the city for my last neck treatment, to have my hair cut, to see my GP and to have the last adjustment done on the hearing aide before I go back on Saturday morning for my op........the weeks have just flown. Oh and I also have to have an ECG and blood draw for the op as well........I think I will be glad of that week in hospital so I can get a rest.....lol.
Take care everyone!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Hey everyone, I've just caught up with the last two pages. I've been busy taking care of my DD. She is the talk of the ortho area. First that they operated so late and then because she had so much work done. She had so much scar tissue in there. He did two micro fractures so she'll be on crutches for 8-9 weeks. We are staying in a studio with a kitchenette. I have to drive her to PT twice a day. She is already on the bike and doing very well. She always amazes me with her perseverance.
Today I went for a hike while she was in PT. It is very pretty here. The altitude is a little much, tho. I was panting toward the end. But I am so much better at breathing out here. I saw this sign. lol

Wilse, I am so happy about your scans. Now you can celebrate spring and new growth!!!
Chrissy, so sorry about your kitty. It is so hard to let them go even when we know it is best.
sas, carole, socal and aly have a great weekend.
I am not even sure which day it is anymore. I'm living in caretaker mode.

Nancy, it's great that your DD is doing so well this early! Already on the bike? She obviously wants to make this recovery as short as possible! I'm glad it's working out for you both. BTW, I've never seen a beaver crossing sign!
Wilsie, I love where you're planting. We have some daylilies too and they multiply like mad. I like them.
DH got the rest of the garden planted yesterday. We do a rather small one, with peas, green beans, peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Already getting onions, green peas, broccoli, and chives. There's nothing better for lunch than a tomato sandwich from a just picked tomato!
Chrissy, your knee replacement will be done before you know it and you'll be recuperating. It's good that you have a busy week ahead and I hope all goes well. Will be thinking of you through this week, your surgery, and beyond. And still thinking of you and the loss of your cat. For a pet to be in your life that long is amazing. One of our cats was put to sleep at 19 (my dear Boris) and I still miss him.
Hope everyone has a happy rest of the weekend.
Kathy

Big hugs Chrissie she was such a sweetie cat and you wil miss her even though she drove you crazy with her demanding ways. She would forget she had been fed as soon as she has eaten. But she did know where her comfy spots were.
Have a lovely photo of Chrissy's cat but it is on my home computer.
About to leave for the UK to visit a friend for a few days.

Chrissy, it's so hard to lose a pet you've had for so long - especially a cat (said the lady who's crazy about cats).
Mac, I'm glad your daughter is doing so well after her surgery. I must have missed something because I don't remember why she needed this surgery. Are you comfortable telling us why?
I'm going back and forth with my own worry. My youngest DD (she's 20) found a lump in her breast. PCP sent her for an U/S and they did a core needle biopsy and we're waiting for the answer. I suspect part of the reason for the recommendation for biopsy is me. I know at her age it's not likely to be BC but, you know, she's my baby. So I worry.

Barbe - I know it is so hard. Our first Hannah has been gone for five years and I still have her favorite toy on my clothing shelf. She was a great dog. Pets are a wonderful addition to life.
I have been reading a lot of books about our wars and just finished up "Band of Brothers" for the third time. I wrote this in contemplating the many lives given. I am never sure that our government sends our young men and women for good reason but I am always sure that they believe in defending what they believe in.
I wrote this sitting on my porch.A Reflection on Memorial Day
I have lived close to war; not in the midst of a brutality that I can only imagine and not in a sanitized way that comes like the morning paper clean enough to wrap a newborn in. I have seen broken bodies unloaded from airplanes or lying in hospital beds. I have seen old eyes in young faces and I have heard the cries of men who were boys just a few weeks before.
Today I sit on a cool porch and look out on green grass warmed by a brilliant sun. Above me is a blue sky painters can never quite copy. I am surrounded by trees that still show a hint of the varied greens of spring. I see flowers; some cultivated by my own hand and others - wild, hardy survivors that pop up in unexpected places just to please my eye.
There goes a bluebird, an oriole, a red-winged blackbird, a finch. Whose song is that? And that?
A dragonfly just flew by and a hummingbird on his way to the next flower.
All of this on a Saturday afternoon, on the land that I love, preserved for me by the blood of countless sons and daughters.
I breathe in the wonderful air and breathe out an inadequate “Thank You”.
