@beekaycro24 oh, I'm really sorry that you didn't get clear margins 🥺 and that you have to undergo surgery again... I was really hoping it wouldn't be necessary. I'm rooting for you as always! 🙏 This time, everything will be perfect... It's great that the margins are still pre-cancerous! The bad stuff is already gone.

Another good news: I personally know a girl who is taking Kadcyla. She also didn't have a PCR and had to undergo surgery again to remove all the lymph nodes. And she's doing great, with no side effects. Don't be afraid... You're going to be just fine, I'm sure of it! Stay strong! 💪

@catarina_fm That IS great news! I'm trying to stay positive…still processing it all.

@beekaycro24 I second what @catarina_fm said. It’s a let down to not get that PCR initially. I also know two people who did not get clean margins and needed the lymph nodes out and have been going strong after taking Kadcyla. It is a lot to process.

@beekaycro24 I ditto the previous comments. I was not familiar at all with Kadcyla so was reading about it. It sounds like it has amazing results from the studies that have been done! And also read that it doesn't cause hair loss or as you mentioned it is more tolerable than TC! Will be praying for your surgery Monday! Keep us posted on how you are doing!

@beekaycro24 I'm sending you a big hug right now. I'm sorry that you didn't get the results that you were hoping for. I'm sending you positive vibes that you come out hopeful and strong from all of this!

For me after mastectomy, I also had positive margins with DCIS but negative lymph nodes. Basically taking a watch and see approach. Tomorrow will be my 2 year NED celebration post mastectomy! I'm a bit nervous about recurrence but I need to go with flow.

  • Hi guys. Recovering from my SMX and surgeon confirmed that everything was clear in the lymph nodes following chemo (previously had lymph node involvement) so looks like it did its job there.

Waiting for full pathology report now. I think they found residual in the breast but could be dead tissue, will have to see. Am expecting to go on Kadcyla.

    Hope everyone is good x

@beekaycro24 and @jessybessy how are you ladies doing? Hoping the surgery went well today and that jessybessy is recovering well!

How's everyone else doing this lovely Monday? I'm getting ready for a winter storm 😕yay LOL. Hoping it won't be too bad! I get to work from home tomorrow though!! No wig, no make-up and pj's all day for me!! Phesgo this Thursday but things should be all good by then. Anxious about flushing my port though since all the neck issues last week. Hoping it works correctly and nothing wrong with the port/catheter. Still some swelling, but the pain is pretty much gone. Tomorrow is the last day of antibiotics.

  • @grammie2 Praying all goes well with your port flush. I have not given my port a second thought since it was put in, but after my appointment last week they put a bandaid on it, like they alway do. It left a red mark where the adhesive part was (like it usually does due to thin skin), but instead of brushing it off I was like…am I having a reaction? Is it clogged? It was just from the adhesive and cleared up after applying Aquaphor.

This morning's surgery went really well, surprisingly to me. It was so different from the last time. My surgeon requested a pectoral block. I was given a small dose of Fentynel and Verset prior to the procedure. Then, general anesthesia during surgery. I came home with a new little friend, Buttercup…my drain (Suck it up, Buttercup!) lol SO pleasantly surprised no one mentioned wearing a bra 24/7 except for showers. It wasn't even in my discharge orders. My surgeon knew I was looking forward to my 2-week mark so I could go without my bra. That was supposed to be today. I told the surgeon beforehand, I didn't care if my boob was wonky, just get it all! I do plan on taking more of my pain meds this go 'round. I was a little throbby under my arm when I woke up post-op. They asked if I wanted something for the pain, and I said yes. Was given 5mg hydrocodone. I had a great ride home, ate some fruit and peanut butter in the car. No pain coming up our gravel, mountain road. I'm making sure I get up and move around so I don't swell so bad. My drain was emptied at the hospital before coming home, then hubs and I did it once already. Looks like it may need to be done again soon, so I'm happy it's doing it's job. Thank you all for the prayers and good vibes. You all are appreciated more than you know!!

So good to hear @beekaycro24 ! Glad it went so well and I hope the pain will be minimal! Praying you are able to rest tonight (the drugs should help that LOL). Take care!!

I’m thinking of @beekaycro24 and @jessybessy tonight. I hope you ladies have a restful night. I have to say it’s very surreal to have completed treatment today. But what a relief.

  • You are officially a survivor!! WOO-HOO!!!!

@grammie2 I hope you enjoyed your stay at home snow day cozy and wig free! I’m glad the chest issue is pretty much over for you. Good luck with the port flush!

@beekaycro24 You sound amazing! BUTTERCUP! LOLLL! Love it. Hope you’re also recovering ok, @jessybessy!

@djschmidt1 Congratukations on hitting this wonderful milestone! Enjoy the feeling of relief. Lord knows you have earned it.

I’ve decide to treat myself to nanoblading my post-chemo wonky and sparse eyebrows. I’m tired of pencilling them in all the time and I’m not that great at it. Have any of you heard about it or is anyone thinking about it? It’s supposed to be less permanent and harsh than microblading. I’m having it done on the 28th.

Congratulations all on all the positive news! Luv reading about cozy wig free days, surgery recovery and treatment milestones!

@aborayis oh nanoblading looks really cool! I've seen only photos and the eyebrows look so real! Do you have to get touch ups?

  • @beekaycro24 so glad you've had the surgery and that you're doing well 😊This time you'll be lucky! 🙏 I didn’t know what a pectoral block was, so I looked it up. Interesting! How are you feeling today? Is a lot of fluid coming out of the drain?

@jessybessy I hope you're recovering beautifully and that they remove the drain very soon 😉

@grammie2 good luck with the port flushing! If it doesn’t work, they’ll just have to remove it, so don’t worry. You don’t really need it anymore anyway 😊

@djschmidt1 congratulations on finishing your treatments! Well done, I’m really happy for you 🥰

@aborayis I've never heard of nanoblading, but since I'm super curious, I already looked up some pictures, and it looks perfect! I think I’d do it too if I needed to. Unfortunately, I still have to draw my eyebrows completely because they haven’t grown back yet (my hair and eyelashes are also taking a long time, even though I finished chemo almost three months ago).

My understanding is nanoblading is semipermanent and needs touching up yearly or so.

  • @catarina_fm Yes, my drain is working well. I drained 80ml of fluids the day of surgery and 91ml yesterday. My nerve block has worn off more overnight, but not a lot of pain…more of an ache than anything else right now, and even then it's not a constant ache. I've made sure I'm up and walking around the house a good bit. It's so rainy and foggy here that I haven't been able to go walk at my normal walking trail. Surprisingly, I can get a good bit of steps in just walking up and down my hallway.

Has anyone here had to have a re-excision done? I'm just curious if I should expect another pathology report. My surgeon didn't mention it and I forgot to ask.

  • @beekaycro24 I'm very happy that the drain is doing its job and that you're well 😊 I believe you might be feeling more sore, but you should recover very quickly. I'm staying in hospital accommodation while undergoing radiation, and there's a lady here who also had a re-excision. She says the pain goes away quickly. And you'll receive another pathology report. Wishing you a smooth recovery 🙏

@beekaycro24 Sounds like Buttercup is doing a great job for you! Wishing you continued healing and for the pain to subside.

@catarina_fm How is the radiation going for you

  • Hello everyone!

@aborayis radiation is going well. In the beginning, it was a bit tiring because the technicians took quite a long time to align me properly, but it got easier over time. Since my tumor was on the left side, I have to inhale up to a certain point and hold my breath during radiation (to protect my heart), which makes the process take a bit longer. But now I'm more used to it, and it's faster. My skin is already getting red and very sensitive, despite applying a lot of cream four times a day. and I have some pain when swallowing because they are also irradiating the lymph node area. But I'm almost there, only four more sessions to go! 😊

  • Hi all! I hope you're having a nice, relaxing weekend. I just received my pathology report from my re-excision. All margins are clear...yay! From what I can understand, two lymph nodes had isolated cancer cells, but says extranodal extension not identified. I'm hoping that's a good thing. I'll let you know once I talk to someone about the report. I really, really hope this is a good thing. :)

@beekaycro24 you go girl! Clear margins! 🙌 Woo hoo!

  • @beekaycro24 I'm so happy, no more surgeries for you! 😍 If you have clear margins, everything that was in the breast is gone. If there was no extranodal extension and all the lymph nodes were removed, this time, everything is gone 🙏 This second surgery really had to be done to remove everything!

Now that they’ve removed everything cancerous, when will you know the next step? Is the drain still removing a lot of fluid? Sending a big hug and congratulations !🥰

  • I had two sentinel lymph nodes with extranodal extension after the first lumpectomy. This second lumpectomy said two of the three axillary nodes that were tested had "isolated tumor cells" but no evidence of extranodal extension. As far as I know, my plan is still to do Kadcyla every 3 weeks for one full year, plus radiation. I haven't been referred to a radiology oncologist yet…my surgeon wanted to wait until all pathology reports came back before doing the referral. I'm still draining a lot of fluid…90 ml total from yesterday. I've already drained 30 ml today, just from overnight. I'm more annoyed at all of the stickiness left on my skin from all of the tapes that have been used. I don't want to scrub hard because it irritates my skin. I think I'll try to put some type of skin therapy oil on it today after I shower. Other than that, I'm good.

@catarinafm - How's your skin? Is it improving any?

  • @beekaycro24 since they’ve already removed everything from your axilla and you have clear margins in your breast, it’s resolved 😊 Do you think they’ll do radiation? I’m not sure what the plan is in these cases, but maybe if you do it, it’ll only be on the breast.

You’re still draining a lot of fluid, but it might start decreasing this week.

My skin is more or less the same, it hasn’t gotten worse. The worst part is the axilla, which is more sore. I tried wearing 100% cotton t-shirts inside out (inside out so the seams don’t hurt the skin) but since they don’t stretch, I had to buy a bigger size, and the fabric rubs against my skin, which hurts (because it’s so sensitive). The past few days, I’ve been wearing a 95% cotton, 5% elastane T-shirt that fits snugly, and that problem is gone—it’s much more comfortable.

Only three treatments left, almost there! I’m so done with this 😅

  • My surgeon said it's standard procedure to do radiation on both the breast if no clear margins and lymph node area after an axillary lymph node dissection, so I'm expecting to do it. What I think is the craziest about all of this, is my three suspicious lymph nodes looked normal on my Jan 7th ultrasound after finishing TCHP treatments. Then, they discovered the two sentinal nodes with extranodal extension after the first lumpectomy on Jan 27th. Did this spread that fast or was something not seen on the ultrasound? Either way, I'm ready to fight forever if I have to. I told my husband I look at it the same way he has to take his blood pressure/anxiety meds…you take them forever if it's needed. I just have a condition that's a little different from his, but if necessary I will take my meds forever.
