Chevy, LOL the black birkie's went in the trash. Wouldn't even donate them for fear it would turn back on someone else. Very hard for me to throw away something that seems to be still working.
Need to talk to Patty, Girl flushing hourly and really hard and constant beeping is WRONG. Tells me placement isn't right. You may have posted already and I haven't gotten to it yet. They need and xray.
Junie, did you know Nightengale raised nurses out of being consider whores? Because no reasonable women would deal with having to take care of a sick mans needs. It was awful in the early days.
Zills, I started a new pain thread. Should have done it years ago. I have bits and pieces all over BCO. This I can bring those together and direct how it flows, Very interested in what you had to say about Jin Shin Jytsu. Please, see what you can post there. As much as I wanted to do this, I have lost some energy. Right now working on Fibro, but my hearts not in it. Whew saw your description. Sounds like twister ala one.

Patty, the Retsky dinner was about 3 weeks ago now. Lovely. Had a great visit. Gave Mrs. R some glass. Tomorrow if that's what you asked about, The kids, DB &DSIL his son DIL and two Grands, Cousin & hubby, Donnie & I are having a party. Four dogs. I should be fussing, but it's family. Made the menu easy. It's a meet and greet of Jamie's parents with my Steve's side.

I'm learning Mitzy's language as she is learning ours. I think sometimes she thinks she can speak human language. She does the "ahouuuuh" howl when she is excited or happy. She has a slightly different howl sound to alert us when the kids are home from school. It's her" hurry up and open the door for them".
How exciting about the dinner! Don't over-do and make shoulder worse. Ooh... I just realized I am giving instruction/advise to an ex-nurse

Sas a meet and greet party sounds like fun, my daughter is getting married this summer. We have known his family for a few years and they are lovely people. My husbands and my family live in another province . My daughter will be very disappointed if they don't come to her wedding.
My father passed in the fall, but my father-in-law is 93 and in a seniors home and is still in pretty good form. My husband is flying next week to see him, as he has been a little down.
Loveroflife- yes dogs do have a way of communicating with different barks. My dog has lost most of his hearing , but understands hand gestures.

Ladies! Can't keep up….
Who fell? GINGER? I have so many vestibular disorders that DH says I have learned to fall like a Hollywood stuntwoman. After breaking several limbs, I finally learned to curl up like a sowbug when I go down. Of course, that didn't help when I hit my head, but that's another story. Many places offer "Balance and Fall Prevention" classes. My FIL just took one, and stubborn as he is, said that it really helped him.
Hey, Miss SASSYPANTS…. How is your shoulder? I remember when I fell on my hands and knees, and had rotator cuff tears in both shoulders. They felt like gunshot wounds (or how I imagine gunshot wounds would feel) and I finally agreed to a repair on the left one. Turns out they had to do almost a complete reconstruction there was so much damage… but the good part was that they did it arthroscopically. The right side just sort of got better on its own.
CHEVY – I still have that mental image of you on the stripper pole (the one you posted)… you're lookin' great, Sistah!
HOLEINONE – only 45 minutes on hold? You hit the jackpot! I usually get in a quite a few games of Candy Crush when I'm on hold!
SUSAN – so sorry to hear about your hubby – hopefully he is better now… DH and I completely understand about the ER Germ Pit. The staff at Kaiser Hospital wouldn't recognize us without our surgical masks.

JAZZYJUNE – keep the cheesecake and compote in their containers. Put "blue ice" thingies level in the bottom of an ice chest. Put a kitchen towel over them. Put your containers in, and use Ziplock baggies to stuff in between them to stabilize them inside the chest. If you need a solid surface on top of that, use a cookie sheet. Then add another layer of blue ice add another layer of kitchen towels. You should be fine. Cute bib!
WREN – there is a warning on the Aspercreme I use that says "DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO ASPIRIN OR SALICYLATES. CONSULT WITH YOUR DOCTOR." As for head injuries, my DH remembers having at least 8 concussions from when he was a football player. I'm pretty sure his brain would show CTE.
MAGDALENE – I am so sorry about the pain…. all of it. Even the pain we thought we got rid of can still lurk. Personally, I've been where you are. Professionally, I've been on the other side (I'm a retired counselor.) It's a wonderful opportunity to come here and vent and know you will be respected and understood. But it also helps to have a professional therapist you trust who can work with you to find new ways of thinking about things. I've had to do that many times when I felt I was losing myself. I send you giant, loving, hope-filled hugs.

Sorry – this is kind of boring and technical, so maybe only the nurses will be interested…
We are DONE with the Rituxan infusions! DH had his last one (once a week for four weeks) yesterday. He checks in to the Chemo Infusion Room, gets his assigned chair, gets his vitals, two Benadryl and two Tylenol, then a sack of SoluMedrol. That's just the pre-medication. After 30 minutes they start the Rituxan drip, and those nurses watch him like hawk for the slightest reaction (tickle in the throat, etc.) as the first SE is anaphylactic shock. They start at 50 mg at first, and if he has no reaction, they increase the drip every 30 minutes by 50 mg. Well, thank God he had no reactions, so the subsequent times they started him at 100 mg and cranked up the drip by 100 mg every half hour. That really sped up the process.
His only complaint was a tired butt, as the first day it took six hours in the chair, then it went to four hours in the chair. He finally learned how to shut out the busy-ness of the Chemo Infusion Room by putting in his headphones and listening to his Westerns on tape. On Friday, he slept through the whole treatment. (He's a Benadryl weenie.) But he is completely exhausted for a few days afterwards.
Rituxan is a Chimeric Monoclonal Antibody, which by now has killed off all the "B" cells that could be contributing to his kidney disease (FSGS). The Nephrologist is also tapering him off Cyclosporin, an anti-transplant rejection med, which helped him into remission five years ago but has now become toxic to the kidneys. He has no immune system to speak of, which is why our house is as sanitized as a hospital, and we are as OCD about germs as Howard Hughes. (No, he hasn't had a kidney transplant, and hopefully with this drug, he never will need one…)
This drug was first developed for lymphoma and leukemia, then they found good results with autoimmune diseases: MS, Graves Disease, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc. I'm not sure who decided to try it on patients with his disease, but the theory is that autoimmune disease causes scarring in the body, and his issue is scarring in his kidney tissues.
His B cells will start to regenerate right away, and it will take six months to a year for them to get back to normal levels. In the meantime, the Rituxan will stay in his system for six months, so the cells that DO regenerate will not be affected by the chemical compounds that react to autoimmune attacks.
He's had one set of labs (after two infusions) that showed his protein leakage down slightly, but his kidney function had gone from 30% to 40%. He'll get another set of labwork done next week.
There's the scientific timeline, and there's God's timeline. Our prayer is that the drug will put him into remission, so he will not need dialysis or a transplant down the road.
So now we wait.

sas - That is an interesting tidbit you shared about early nurses. Again, so glad we live in this century. Nursing has gotten quite complex compared to the early days. Did you say you have fibromyalgia? I have it too and the energy thing can be such a challenge some days. On days like today I have the energy to do some extra stuff here at my apartment, then I pay for it for the next several days. I think back to what I used to be able to do in a day and it just isn't fair. Today, since it was dry & sunny I went out and swept the sidewalk and entry way of the annoying pine needles that seem to be everywhere. I hate having them all over my carpet and floors.

Thanks Blessings for the info on transporting the cheesecake. Good grief why didn't I remember that I can leave the cheesecake in the spring-form pan to transport? Its gotta be the chemo brain thing. On March 10th it will be 10 years since I left Las Vegas and moved here to Oregon and I haven't left the state in all that time except for my one trip to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix in Dec. 2014. I'm really looking forward to going to Calif. even if it is for 3 days to celebrate my friends 60th birthday. We've know each other for like 22 years. How does so much time pass so seemingly quickly?

It is still a battle of occlusion every our or more. Hoping to go home tomorrow ( sunday ) so really really don't want to lose this one and have to get another.

It's not exercise even though the directions sound like twister. Watch a video. It's light touch. I guess the closest mainstream concept would be like acupuncture but no needles.
I really believe it's given me quality of life. I even do it on my kids. I did a hold on my mom after her stroke. She's about 90% recovered. I know the surgeon did a fantastic job and she got the meds in the window but I still think it helped it was categorized as a castrophic with buckshot like clots in the brain. She can eat, talk, move, laugh, smile. She maybe has to hunt for words more often but we all know what that's like and little to no sleep in the hospital. She's been in rehab a week so it's only been two weeks from the stroke.

Morning all. Off to church soon. Feel poopy....ha ha . And I keep going poopy. I think it's part the weather too. Need some sunshine and a nice slow walk outdoors. Soon spring will be here. Sometimes if you can just get slightly on the other side of yuck, you feel a thousand times betters. I just need a nudge to get there.
I had a friend die of cancer 25 years ago. She had a 2 1/2 year old son. He is deaf. Went to see a play he was in last night. Romeo and Juliet, set in a different time. Part talking part signing. Very cool. Great acting. It was geared for hearing impaired. So when they signed, I knew nothing, but we all know the story. When they spoke, words went up on a screen for the hearing impaired. So we were in their world for a night. Very cool experience:

Bet is was interesting. One year I drove a small load of hearing impaired kids. Their hands would be flashing, they were cracking up, and I had no clue.

Blessings, I spent so many years in therapy, all kinds, it's so hard to even find one you really connect with, then if you're like me, it has to be someone who asks the right questions. I don't have that kind of money to burn. So I just hang on. DH makes me laugh, and that's good. And I have Sassy. She will make sure I stay on the straight and narrow. Haha! By the way, check out her pain thread for a link I put there about rituximab being tested for treatment of chronic fatigue. Same B cell issue.

Hi Mags, I want to comment on pain. When I was in my early 50's I lifted a box of damp books and turned to set it down. I herniated a disc L4 L5 and the pain began. I worked at a technical high school but in a dept of labor program. I never knew about workmans comp, how it worked. My husband was out of work and when he got a new job there was still the "pre existing conditions" on insurance. ( You youngsters may not remember "pre-existing conditions" ) I toughed it out for a year and a half. It was mind numbing pain and so bad I didn't even realize it. I never took off a day of work in that time and took 12 ibuprofen a day. (The old prescription dose.) Pain just takes over our minds, bodies, and senses. Finally I had surgery and I awoke smiling. In the coming days I realized I hadn't been able to see colors in those months, colors. That is indeed a dark place, to be robbed of our senses.
Because nothing is ever simple, my Sciatic nerve was damaged through this and it began firing randomly and most often unexpectedly, It was consistent in firing as I got out of bed in the morning, no matter what technique I tried, rolling out, crawling backwards, levitating. It was also huge pain, but different than what I had experienced pre-surgery. I was rescued by Neurontin, I took it for 6 months and it worked! as far as the nerve firing. I still limped badly with sciatic pain for about another year. One Sunday at church I went up for prayer and didn't even realize the pain was gone until I was on my way home. No flashes in the sky, no harp music, just a quiet change, no pain.
Mags I am not sure what I am saying here. I feel so bad for you being tormented by pain in all of its manifestations. I do hope you are able to continue to talk with someone and perhaps even be able to tell them what questions to ask. Maybe that can happen.
I am thankful for the people who have come into my life and known what questions to ask, Or maybe I was ready to be heard. Not sure.

Ginger... Same thing! I twisted my back, while kneeling across the bed, throwing the covers up from the bottom... That PAIN! The Ls4 & 5.... A year of pain, physical therapy, chiropractor, (which is the WRONG thing to do) Muscle spasms... and yes 600 mg of Ibuprofen 4 times a day.... Finally the Sciatica was the last straw.... Surgery...for a double laminectomy.... I woke UP from surgery, and that sciatic pain was gone!
Rehab for awhile, but just kept getting better.... Still gets a little "sore" once in awhile, but not anymore than my hip. This was in 1985!
Amazing what we go through.... and then like a miracle, we are okay.....
Been working in my gardens today! A little cool, but the sun feels good.... Moving planters around, figuring out what I want to do with all the space...AND watching the Daytona 500! Now I'm going to relax....
