INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Man you know it's hot in Texas. We just got issued an emergency electric conservation alert for this afternoon. That means threat for rolling blackouts which I don't remember for about 5 years and that was for snowy cold weather. Guess no more laundry here today.
"Think I will take this to another box" - ah Sassy a play on words? Coconut - almonds? I think I need a Snickers.

That's better. Hoohahs. aka vulva's. Tub bath or sitz soaks 1/2 hour plus or minus. Cider or white vinegar will act as a drawing agent. saved my vulva, oops hoohah. Tub 1-2 cups. Sitz 1/2 cup-1 cup. Warm water. Hot water is okay for some, but can promote histamine release which increase itching. Consider dermatologist or gyn visit if not relieved within a few days. Everything Littlegoats said.
Rosie, hope it all goes well on the trip. Hmmm Oregon passes DWD and then doesn't make sure of availability. Backasswards. Clusterf**k. Stupid.
Dying at home conceptually nice thought. The bad memories are real. They're is a thing called pre-terminal agitation. Never heard of it till the day My Greg passed. It was awful. The hospice staff had a bad case of it about two years before DH. They developed a policy that allowed the primary nurse to call in more staff. For hours that day, they're were 2 nurses and 1 aid here. I'm a nurse. His scenario was unusual, I'll leave it at that. In a do over, I would not have done it at home. That room is not my warm fuzzy place to be now or ever. If I were rich I'd move. Please, don't suggest that all that could have been done wasn't. This state pre-terminal agitation is unpredictable. Yes, if it could have been predicted then some other things could have been done. 40 years, I never saw anything as bad. Until that day, I was a supporter of dying at home as a natural end to life.

Yup Sassy a good continuous care nurse earns her salary for sure. The last co I worked for contracted it out and was sure happy to see some repeat nurses. The 1st co had nurse aides during the day and LVN at night, meaning family more present during the day and sleeping more during the night. It worked for them but it was a very rural hospice. The medical director I worked with the most would give us most anything we asked for at that time. I remember only one case of terminal reslessness and had another nurse present all night with the LVN - the rural co. That's when the hospice nurse better have her meds stocked!! The rural co. had it's own contract pharmacy - unique I think. Hated to call our pharmacist out but did if I had to. Much better to have to waste stuff than wish you had it at 3 am. I did that with one guy. His pulm doc had a thing for morphine - hated it actually and put the fear of God in his pts for using it. Can't remember if it was sublingual or inhaled - think it was the inhaled. At 3 am I said we're unwrapping this and using it right now! He passed peacefully a couple of days later. Hate to think what it would have been without the MS.
I can think of only 4 companies in Ft Worth with inpt units. One is free standing not sure of its origin, one is located in an under used Alz. facility and also has a hospice house in southern part of co, another is Baylor aff. and last is a specially built facility that I would have loved to have worked at but way too far away. And most of these are for those last few days only. Sent many to the Alz. facility knowing they would have to eventually make other arrangements for a bit.

thanks for the bath advice. When I get home from my "spa" treatment--I will soak for a bit. MO looked at it but didn't want to chance infection by trying to remove it (kaiser gynecology is upstairs from oncology so it would be an easy trek, even with an i.v.). WBC's are down from 29k to 15k but still no neupogen this round either.
I remember when my first two aunts passed at home and my mother, another aunt and a cousin, all RN's, were responsible for most of their care. Hospice nurses dropped by a couple of times a day.
mommy--we finally got rid of our humidity but it's headed back. A recent news report says California is in for a monster El Niño so I better get used to the humidity.

Wonder how it will affect east coast?

loverly--nope, straight tea tree oil. Ouch! And the hooha injury was when I was 17. I drove all the way home from the ranch and then mom took me to the ER. Typical Nurse Ratchet wouldn't leave the exam room when the doc stitched me up-- she wanted to make sure he did it right. I think the real reason she wouldn't leave while he put 6 stitches in was that the doctor was better looking than George Clooney in scrubs!
And yes, definitely a tomboy. I laugh now because most of my friends growing up ended up being lesbians so they were shocked that I'm not.

dune, these are my birds. When they get loud I always tell them they are going to play with the hawk outsid0 -
Sas, you were here in 97-98? ElNino should be the same, or worse.

Susan- love your budgies. I had parakeets for years. Looks like you have a male and a a female, have they ever had babies?

Spookie--the latest news is that the one forming off the California coast will be the worst one yet. I'm pretty disaster-prepared so I always make a joke about the only thing I need is a raft. I may actually have to look into getting one now!

That pretty much goes with what I've been reading. This week here, we've had 2 low pressure systems in the Gulf. They never developed into hurricanes, but have dumped about 18" of rain in a week. Winter will be soooooo fun here.
