Hi Divas!!  I'm back from vacation!  Had a great time and wished we could have stayed at least one more day, but oh well....back to reality instead.

Welcome to all the new Divas!!

Marygla -- When I first started X, I did take Zofran and it helped, but it also worsened my constipation so I switched to Compazine instead.  Loved it!   Later on we lowered my dose some and I do not have the nausea anymore.  Everyone is different so hard to say how you will react.  It might not hurt to take one - especially if you have things to do outside the home -- but generally the side effects do not start immediately.  You MIGHT be able to take a dose without anything and see how you feel and if you really need it or not.  Hope some of that was helpful, even if not a direct answer....nothing is easy, is it?  :-\

Just wanted to pop in and say hello....will need to go back and read all I missed so I can catch up with everyone.

Hope everyone is doing ok today!

Nice cool weather for walking dog and enjoying soup and sweaters here. also deep napping under fluffy comforter. Choked down the X pills, Ca w Vit D, coumadin. That really should decrease the appetite, swallowing all that heavy stuff twice a day, don't you think?

    Marybe,

Sorry about your dilemma. To party and wonder or to loose all your hair and feel like you are doing "something" to fight the cancer. I hope you get whatever tests will give you peace of mind over the next weeks. I live just west of Lexington and hope to join you for the X-mass party!!

Welcome also to the new gals. The Divas are truly a wonderful group with lots of information and ideas. Do read the whole thread if you get the chance. There is some joking and chatter, but SO much information about living with X and staying ahead of the SEs. If it can be done, its in here.

Much love and luck to all.

    Zoh

PS: The stupid scan was cancelled and my onc was out sick that day. Saw him today and seems that he now want to push out the scan to just after Thanksgiving. So on the 30th I'll go in. Seems wierd, but I understand his thinking and I agree. He also said that this particular scan wont effect treatment at all cause, given the rate of my progression, the Gemzar will work slowly (like stopping a runway train he said). So even more growth wouldn't really say anything about if the drug is working. But, he said, "You like to know whats going on in your body, so we can scan sooner for that reason."  The guy is pretty cool. I would do a thousands of dollar scan for his peace of mind too, I really would. I feel very lucky.

Looks like Im off to MDA assuming DH wants to go too. Just to get a look at what they think about future treatment optioins (or not).

    We shall see.

Ugh, Zoh, sorry you had to suffer through pre-scan anxiety for nothing! I'll be getting my first dose of gemzar when you get your scan on the 30th. I'll be thinking of you! When do you think you will go to MD Anderson? Hope DH will go with you. I guess your mom will be watching the kiddos. My eyebrow tattooing was cancelled today. Now it is set for the 29th. I think I'm more nervous about that than the gemzar. LOL!

Hope it's okay for me to write in this board. Not doing X now, but I have in the past! Saw Zoh's post and wanted to respond!

Zoh glad to hear from you were worried about you.......

Well, when I went to the last drs. appt he read the report and the radiologist said that everything is "resolved" well isn't that strange cause I have a tumor in my lung which I can feel and you can see really cause it sort of protrudes.....so went to the drs. yesterday and told him that I am not going their to get the scan again cause the radiologist, sucks and that he better report them or talk to them about "missing" something.....then when I left, they forgot to give me the script for the X and forgot to give me the script for the blood work.....I am wondering,  I am a fairly intelligent person and and very involved in my treatment, what about the people that aren't or don't have the support person that I do....they are sitting ducks with the professionals that aren't paying attention.....I am really annoyed......thanks for listening

Aww, Geez, Marybe, still not on a course?

ZZZZZoh!   Hey, my scan in Sept was mixed and really too early to tell what X was doing, so I get ya there.  Hard to wait.  Id have an chest Xray every day if I could.    Hope to hear your report from MDA or Vanderbilt or Sloan Kettering or whatever you think is a new perspective

Marygla - I take Zofran every 6 hours.  My onco told me to take it the day before I actually start my 7 days on which I have done and then take it regularly every 6 hours or I will be nauseated. I even have to take it for about 2 or 3 days the week I am off or I feel nauseated so I take it quite a bit.  I did not know if it was helping so I did not take it for a day or so and I was sorry so I started taking it right away and continued taking it on schedule and it has made a lot of difference for me.  I will not take the X without taking the Zofran also.  Hope you are getting along with the X and not to many side effects.

Hello Divas All....new and old! Marybe, I am thinking of you. Hope you can party thru the holidays. Damn, I love your spirit!

Zoh, I will also be scanned on Nov 30th. I will be thinking of you too that day. Hopefully we will both have good results.

Maygla....I have never taken any anti nause dtugs while on X. Have not needed to. The side effects are very individual. You may be lucky. I hope so.

I have been doing really well on X as far as side effects. No hand foot etc. However, I am now on about my 10th cycle I think and I am having much more of a problem with the Big D. Im munching Immodium which does offer some relief for awhile. But it keeps coming back. Oh well. I just hope the scans show its working.

    Thinking of all of you....

Guess what is coming to my doorstep, today? Nope, your wrong if you think it is a box from amazon.com.

My Xeloda is arriving today! I have mixed feelings about this. Happy to start and kill the beast but worried to have to endure the SE's. Any advices appreciated. What was your experience with the first cycle. I really hope to have a glass of red wine at my hubby's traditional Hondurain Holiday called Thanksmas! We get the whole fam together for Thanksgivng and just celebrate Christmas then too as his family lives everywhere in the world. Just hope to not be running to the bathroom with explosions....

Tiger - Don't worry yet about SE hon, you could have minimal.  Glad you have a plan, even if it includes xeloda -  a good drug for lots of us, and I hope for you too

Zoe honey - so glad to see your post.  Sorry that you are waiting, waiting, waiting....I'll keep the good karma coming your way.

Judi - will keep you and Zoe in my thoughts on "scan day" - best of luck to each of you - Sue

Tiger, as soon as I feel a quake down low I take half an immodium. More if needed. Also, pain pills are constipating as is zofran. So the trots do not last long here! Eating bananas, rice, toast, drinking black tea, all constipating. Good luck.

Sueper:  Congratulations on your first grandson!!  Smile

So I went to the onc's office this morning for labs and my Xgeva shot.  I thought I was also going to pick-up my next cycle of Xeloda (since that is what they told me on the phone!), but of course things are never as they seem.  They won't give me the X until I have my next scans.  Which they FINALLY scheduled yesterday.  I have scans on December 1st and get the results on December 2nd.  I explained to them that means I'm going to get an extra week off, but they said my onc said it was ok, so I didn't argue much.  Heck, I would LOVE a 2-week break and if they are ok with it, who am I to complain!! Tongue out   So I will take my last dose of my 14-days tonight, and then I don't take anymore until I see him on the 2nd!  Woo hoo!

Hope everyone is having a beautiful day!!

    congrats Sue.  that's wonderful

I had the worst side effects ever (hand and foot) from the Xeloda yesterday.. I am much better today.  I actually had to lay down at 1 pm after a busy morning.. i was out like a lamp, so greatful to get off of my feet.  i soaked them early that morning.  I woke up around 4, had a beer and then slept till bedtime and then went to bed.

    LOL

super13: He is Soooooo cute! And what a darling baby too.  LOL

Tiger: I know how you felt about starting that first cycle: "What am I getting into here?" I had very little trouble apart from a whining fit or two and dry feet and hands. Hope you do even better. (though the whining is OK)

Apple: Im sorry you are having foot pain. Hoping that next cycle is easier that way. I always figured that since HFS is caused from the chemo leaking out of the palms and soles, that it must be linked to activity or sweaty socks or something like that. So I hope its easier next time with no trigger.

Lynn: Im sorry your schedule got wierd, though it is always nice to have a little break.

Im doing OK over this way. Still seriously tired alot of the time. Carving out time to sleep in the day unless its right before treatment - then I do better with being up and about using meds for pain and staying awake. Better living through chemistry.

I find a month out from X that my sensitive feet, and dry skin are easing off for real. Its nice as the new SEs are creeping up, I think.

Oh, sweet baby pic.  Bet you can't wait to babysit, Sue.   Tiger, Nothing is going to happen overnight......it can be weeks and maybe you will be lucky and not have any SEs.

After I went to that baby shower today...(.boy did she ever get a ton of stuff....big things like a stroller, car seat, crib mattress),I went shopping and am totally exhausted.  To think I used to love to shop, now it makes me want to scream and makes my feet hurt and my back ache and it's just no fun.  One place was having a big sale so it was like a mob scene and I thought Wow, and supposedly we are in a recession....you could not tell it the way women were trying on shoes.  I recall my mother telling stories about how they would put linoleum in their shoes if they got a hole in them during the depression.

Marybe, Linoleum! Crazy. I agree you'd never know there was a recession at the stores. And everyone seems to be free to shop weekdays, too.
