Also caught your good news Judie!!! Wheeee. Im very glad you are Stable Mable these days. Very sweet. You certainly earned it!

After X: The Side Effects at 6 weeks off X

I still have the crazy dry skin, as I mentioined, and this goes for hands and feet too. Still going wild with aquaphor (my favorite). I don't have painful feet like I used to, but they are still sensitive and I cant stay up on them as long as I'd like to. Otherwise its all post rads and Gemzar SE as far as I can tell.

Not too bad all things considered.

Miss you Divalicious gals, but I do keep up!

Debbie.. the best thing for nausea for me is to eat totally bland foods and avoid fats and oils at all costs.. that's what gets to me.

and my xeloda shoes are making me feel wonderful. Having super warm feet all the time, embraced in the fluffiness of sheep's wool is heaven.  (used on ebay).

so the nausea I have been having is due to X?  Is it also responsible for the anemia?  Knock wood my feet and hands are ok.  I use the Udderly sMOOth religiously.

Just dx with reoccurence nov 15. Started xeloda 3 days ago.  Is there anyone here who has been using this treatment that has had good results.  It seems most of what I'm reading was progression using this treatment.  It seems if I wait until there is progression instead of using something that stops the progression before it progresses I will be much better off.

    Hi Divas!!

Judi:  Excellent news!!!  So happy for you!

Renee: As much as I'm at Kohl's, you'd think I would have found these myself already! Thanks for the tip!

Chris62:  I have been successful so far on Xeloda.  Just had scans last week and all is still stable.  It got me stable pretty quick too (9 weeks).  Been on it about 5 months now.  Hope it continues!

I'm having a iffy tummy day!  Didn't even make it to work!  I tried to go, made it about a mile and had to come back home.  Yuck!!  I guess there are some negatives to a 2-week break after all.....I assume it's just my body adjusting back to the X.  I'm going to have to break down and take something (usually don't since it tends to steer me in the total opposite direction which is just as bad), but I have a funeral to attend in about an hour so will do what I must.

Chris62  many of us have had great results with Xeloda (and after 'failing' other drugs).  I am very grateful it is working.. My nodes and such immediately shrunk.. just days after starting Xeloda.  it is a bit tough.

Hang in there and best of luck to you

I'll definitely check out the socks and gloves Renee.  Having one's hands and feet feel good is such a nice thing.  Pain is relatively exhausting for me at least.

Going to Kohls tomorrow to check out the socks before hands and feet start again.  Wish my nodes went down, they do didn't...

    Good luck single!!

Hi Ladies, Just stopping in to say Hi...K_Lo found me on the pet thread hanging out with the dogs.  I read and think about you all, but since I am no longer on Xeloda have not had anything to contribute.  I am still not on any treatment, but have been getting some killer cramps and my fingers woke me up the other night burning and when I turned on the light to look at my hands they were bright red.....very strange.  My onco wants to start weekly adriamycin, but I am hesitant to do that since the onco at MDA told me that after so many failed chemos is it rather doubtful that this one will work either so I am in the process of getting my info ready for John Hopkins where they have a special liver unit.....figure it is worth a shot and if they tell me I don't qualify, I can then do the red devil.

I am sorry some of you are having a rough time with hands and feet.   Just remember, most likely the SEs mean it is working and if it is, it is worth it.

PS  I found those Aloe gloves at TJMax and am wearing them to bed even though I no longer do Xeloda because they really do make your hands soft.

Hi Everyone. Wanted to check in because I read your posts for survival tips, but I never post myself. I am a few days into my second cycle of 14 days on/7 days off. I take zofran with breakfast and dinner and then take the X after I have eaten. No nausea so far, but my feet are very red and sore. They seem to hurt equally whether I wear sensible shoes or my more stylish shoes, so I am rocking the stylish shoes! I will check out those aloe socks from Kohls.

To Chris: I will not do scans until January, but I know the X is working, because my cancer symptoms went away after one week on X (shortness of breath and abdominal pain). I progressed on abraxane and Avastin, so I am thrilled to be feeling better and am back at work full time. Good luck. I hope it works for you!

    Hi Guys,

Getting ready to gear up for my 2nd cycle. Went in to the onc yesterday for a blood draw for a different tumor marker test and I had a fever. So, they ran a CBC and my WBC was 2.5. The doc says that this is the week that it should rebound. Is that true? He says that if it does not come down we may decrease the dosage. Does everyone have to adjust dosage in the beginning?

Hi Tiger!  I think it is possible that your counts will rebound on your week off.  Ironically, I've never had any issues with counts on X - even in the beginning when my dose was higher.

I don't know if everyone has to adjust, but it seems like most do.  From what I've read, this chemo is VERY dose-sensitive so they have to play around a bit to get you on just the right dose.  For example, for me, even one less 150mg pill twice a day made a big difference in my side effects. I think that's amazing really...that one tiny little pill can make or break you.  :-\

    Best of luck to you!!

More good reasons to be on xeloda. Its the only chemo I can take that crosses blood brain barrier and can continue to take during rads. I see rads onc Monday re brain lesions which I believe we caught early because I was assertive. Yesterday's CT scans show mixed again in chest, which is better than guessed. Some of the existing things got smaller, some bigger, no new problems. Abdomen and pelvis are clean! Except for noting bone irregularities, absolutely nothing on abd and pelvis. So early bones, caught, on TX. Eye lesion to be watched makes me nervous. Vague dx of cough, narrowing to possible lymphatic obstruction due to micromets. But what we KNOW,we can address. Lungs half responding to X. I feel lucky as hell.

K-Lo:  Bless you, Sister,  that you can feel lucky considering all that you have been through!  I am happy for the scans that show stable.  That is always a good thing. I wish you the best.
