now this does not mean you can celebrate with a cheese burger and fries!  which is stupidly what I did when I first joined my gym!  I gained weight on burgers!

This week's report:  gym Mon/Wed/Fri for cardio.   recumbent bike and Arch trainer. making slow steady progress on it.   Also working on strength training. Hand weights for upper body. Very light weights, but hey,, gotta start somewhere.  And Lebed opening exercises.   Think I'll walk the neighborhood tomorrow.

glennie, sounds like slow and steady progress!  it all counts.

me I was at the gym yesterday after not being there much due to work on my house and I sort of overdid the  strength training so today I stuck to stretches, bike and the lovely pool

pool always helps the achjie back!

Walked 1.45 miles today.  Plus dog walks.   It's gloomy and supposed to rain. Hope it clears up before tomorrow as there is an art festival in town that I want to go to. More walking!

Scans looked good so giving praises to God. I did find out I have several surgical clips still in. My surgeon says they frequently have to leave in some clips due to bleeders. Would have been nice to know before now though. Next will be an MRI of the hip and hopefully a non-surgical, physical therapy type of fix. Found a dress for myself for the wedding today for $34 on a clearance rack so feeling productive. Thanks for asking Binney..

A $34 find--brava! Hope you celebrated that coup with something chocolate!

Very good news on the PET--yes! Onward to the MRI, and praying with you for a non-invasive fix,
    Binney

I've been exercising around my nutty work schedule. Friday I was able to ride my now-stationary bike for 35 minutes. My bike is on a do-hickey that lets me ride it indoors, and the faster I pedal, the more resistance I get. The resistance is hard on my stoooopid knee, so I'm trying to find the sweet spot where I get my heart pumping but my knee doesn't bark at me. I wear a knee brace, which helps a lot. The orthopedic surgeon swears that bicycling is the best exercise for the knee, which I totally do not understand, but he's the expert I guess. After biking, I've been hopping on the rebounder for another 15 minutes of gentle bouncing, the kind that's supposed to help move lymph (feet don't leave the surface). I actually think it helps keep my arm from aching after exercise, and it may be reducing some of the knee swelling, but I cannot prove it. I sure feel like I'm having to jump through a lot of hoops to exercise these days, and the hoops are keeping me from it on days that I really should be doing something. Argh!

Yesterday I went into the gym and did strength training and lots of ab work. Today's a work travel day, so I'll have lots of airport steps, but no heart-pumping cardio.

Have a great exercise week, everyone, which in my book means do what you can and pat yourself on the back for doing it!

Carol, careful with your knee.  As a biker/cyclist, I know lots of former runners who when their knees give out, turn to the bike!  I have one of those stationary set ups for my bike but I usually use the gym.

I was sort of lax on my exercise the last couple of weeks as had a contractor in to do some repair and it was my excuse for going off schedule.  But back on my routine and it feels good although, I am tired!  30 min on the treadmill, stretching and then 30 laps so done for me!

Thank you, Iris. Here's a question, in case you know. For less knee stress, is it better to have the leg less extended when the pedal reaches the bottom, or more? In other words, how much knee bend do I adjust the seat for?

gee not sure but do you have a trainer at your gym to ask?  but my leg is extended when the pedal is at the bottom.

I do and I did, but he has an opinion only about choosing leg extension for optimal pedaling power, not for knee protection. I think it's a question for a PT.

This was a good article about knee pain and optimal seat height, Carol. May be of some use as you know what type of knee pain you are experiencing.

Wow, Laural, that's an informative article! Hats off to the PTs and other professionals with the expertise to read this without dictionary or anatomy books at hand. I'll be spending time with the article to understand more, but even without some study, I can definitely follow the instructions to check bike fit. Thank you

I am with you Carol, need help to understand the article!  Think I will rely on the spin instructors for me, they should me my correct position when I started there and I keep using the same set up, then again, I do not have knee pain,

    hope it helps you

Today my fitbit told me I walked 7.8 miles, which I believe because I had some wonderful walking opportunities. Airport walking--and I highly recommend skipping the 'airtrain' in Atlanta if you have time towalk between terminals, because there is a lot of stunning sculpture and art in the walkways. Then with a colleague, I walked several miles on a beautiful riverwalk in my destination city. A wonderful walking day!

Carol, Great way to feast your eyes with the art and what a good way to burn time at an airport. The river walk sounds delightful.

I have been trudging thru the leaves enjoying the crunch, crunch.

Proudtospin, How's it going? Are you going......moving, .....spinning, .....exercising,....pooling around?;). How is the Claritin working lately?

Hi hugz and all, yeap, I am just back from my gym morning.  The Claritin is working so I am back to laps at the pool.  Also do a motley collection of floor exercises, mostly focused on my balance as that still stinks.  I realize that the balance is worse when I have a sinus infection, which I have today.  Do my saline rinses and again and hoping it clears a bit.  I think my dusty home improvement project recently did not help the sinus issues!  But do believe that the gym is good for my mental state. Working towards getting back into spin as had not been doing  lately so working up to it by pushing myself on the stationary bike.  How are you doing?

Glennie, exhausted but happy, I hope! Good work on your exercise re-entry. You are doing great!

Today for me, more airport walking, but that's all, and I didn't have a lot of time, so well...about 2 miles only. Sat on my tush most of the day observing students make presentations. That was good work professionally, but sedentary. Tomorrow I'll be in a classroom all day but will have evening to myself in warm Texas. So I'm hoping for some outdoor early evening walking. When I get home on Friday I'm expecting snow to greet me, so hugz...I'll take crunchy leaves over slippery cold snow anytime. Except when we have a foot or more. Then I LOVE snowshoeing! Til then, the snow is just annoying and one more pothole in the road to exercise. Don't we all have too many of those

I never tried snowshoeing when I lived up north. Looks like it would be fun,,, so does cross country skiing. Something else I can't do in Florida. LOL!
