Kicking LEs butt!! Exercise & Self Care Log

Hi all, haven't been here in a while. But, when I saw Janet's post I thought I would chime in. Janet, I found, on the recommendation from somebody on the exercise thread, that walking poles are great for keeping your arms elevated and it seems to propel me to walk faster when I use it. I don't have actual visible swelling in my arm, but there is numbness and tightness, and I wear a sleeve when I do anything strenuous and continuous like vacuuming, blow drying my hair, arms reps with light weights, dusting, etc. The walking/hiking pole has been a godsend for me. Just make sure not to grip it top tightly. Also, for some reason I feel less likely to trip, or fall, which I am always afraid of since my diep. My center of gravity just doesn't feel the same. As far as the planks, you might get there, but I would work you way back to it. I am at the point where I am slowly getting back into my yoga, but it's a slow process. The use it, or lose it phrase is so true. But, I had a physical therapist for a while, and she was measuring my range of motion, and cm by cm I was getting it back.0 -
Just posted about self treatment on airplane in " sleeves " thread. So many threads overlap wanted to share message with you all

Swim aerobics class for 2 hours. I find myself looking forward to it as it just feels right for my body at this time. We are a fine looking bunch of gray haired and large people, kind of like the group that my mom always was trying to get my grandma to join. Here's a great video for all of us that are getting up there in years but celebrating each year as it comes. http://www.metaspoon.com/older-ladies-donnalou/?fb

It's so hard getting back in the program after a vacation,, and when it's cold!!! Must get motivated again. I did do the Lebed opening today! It's a start,,,,,0 -
I'm home for a few days (work requires travel, and it's beyond reasonable for the past few months!!). I got a lot of just plain walking steps in during the last few days, because I could walk the 2 miles from my hotel to the office (and back) where I was working. But no big cardio work, because I didn't want to arrive all sweaty and wilted. Today I had an appointment with my trainer at the gym, did a great strength training workout with him. I am lucky that he doesn't charge a lot, because I want to work with him each time I've been away from strength training for more than two weeks. My many absences between training sessions mean that I have to be especially vigilant not to overdue the weights and risk an LE flare. My trainer participated in a workshop all about LE for personal trainers (he even hosted it), so he knows all about my needs, and I'm so grateful for that. Tomorrow I need to do serious cardio--consider this a commitment.

Last week I walked about 5 miles and when I got home my right hand was swollen and was painful to touch, same side as ALND. As I cooled down it went back to size. When I do the 2 mile walk it doesn't happen. I have a sleeve but when I got it I was about 10 pounds lighter. When I put it on today it was pretty tight. I can get it on and off fine. I just don't want that to be too tight and have a negative effect. I'm very unfamiliar with lymphedema so I'm unsure if I should wear it or not when i go for my walk today. Thoughts?

Has anyone used BodyBlade training? I tried it this week in a combo with Pilates barre. There were a lot of Pilates exercises with toning balls as well. Arm has swelled.

I am off to a good start in 2015 (as compared to 2014). I am still logging my steps and striving to make a monthly goal, which I think I'm going to make! I have lost a few pounds and that is always a good thing. I still struggle with exercise. I joined the YMCA, I have a treadmill and a weight machine. What I don't have is any good excuses for not moving!
My job is very sedentary (home office, don't even walk across the parking lot). February and March are going to be heavy travel with up to four weeks of solid travel. Travel always throws me for a loop and I loose any ground I gain. Argh. I need to conquer this.
January is filled with doctor appointments and testing. If there is no cancer-based reason why my knees hurt so badly, then I need to pursue seeing a ortho doc. That left knee isn't just about arthritis or weight, there is something going on. I've been using a cane when I get up at night! I'm too young for that - need to get focused on my health - - - Fit n Lean in 2015!
Okay off to the dentist this AM, then bone density test tomorrow, then onc on Friday. Next week is rad onc, and pcp. I should get exercise points for making it to all my appointments! Ah - - - -- but I don't use valet service anyone and I do park a distance from my destination so those are big improvments for me.
Life is 10% what happens to us, and 90% how we respond.

Go Diane, go!!! You are motivating me.0 -
Diane (ummm...O-H! Do I hear an I-O from your corner of the Buckeye state? --Because even though I live in Michigan, I'm a transplanted Buckeye, and when the Bucks made Duck soup in the recent football game, there was whoopin' and hollerin' at my house!)--
Seriously, good luck, and I'll be thinking of you as you go to all those appointments. My money's on your knees giving you crappy arthritis or some other mechanically-induced reason for pain, and nothing more sinister. As for the exercise, I'm right there with you on the frustrations of travel interrupting resolve and momentum. And my own stupid knee is giving me fits, because it's limiting the type of exercise I can do to get my heart rate up. Arrghhhhh! Arrghhhhh! There, I said it twice, for both of us. Travel is such a challenge.
Great work on your exercise so far this year. Your resolve will keep you on track when you travel. Do keep us posted on what you learn in the appointments.

Sounds like many of you are exercising your way through this winter....high fives all around. I had another water class yesterday. All I can say is oowww in a good sort of way. So far, the arm is behaving itself with daily use of Lymphapress and compression sleeve during day.

Hi all. i haven't posted awhile because when i do i am usually on my ipad and for some strange reason I can only type one character at a time and it comes up on the screen in slow motion. Takes half hour to write 2 sentences. This only happens on this website. I was going to report it to moderators thinking I caught a virus. I can type wtih no problems on my desktop. I will try my ipad again tomorrow and see what happens and report it if its still bad. Anyone heard of this problem? Driving me crazy.
Anyway I have been the "little engine that could" walking again but this strange knee has its days. I think I stretched something in it when I slipped on ice. Believe it or not I did not even fall but the next day going downstairs I had major pain in the knee. My feet kind of spread out like a cow on ice but I caught my balance. I have to watch steps as going down can flare it easy. Otherwise its ok. Its just below knee cap centre and to right a bit. Anyone know about that area? ugh......too many problems lately. At least my exercise is still available and working although ipads and knees aren't.

hugz, I've heard several ladies mention the Ipad issue on another thread. I do not have any issues on my desktop either.
0 -
Hugz, I have the same exact problem with my iPad!! I thought it was just me and my iPad. Feel better, oddly, just knowing it's a shared problem. And our knees are both giving us fits. Time to get together for a real-life chat

So is the problem with BCO or do you have a problem typing in other websites? If it's just BCO then I should report it, I guess to them. Not sure.It seems it all went wrong when I downloaded the lastest ISO8.something.
Anyway back to exercise. I can't go for walkies because it is a tropical pineapple express rainstorm here and I got soaked just from car to office. Good excuse and I will do some deep breathing at least so say I did something... and lebeds.

I have no issues but I have the ISO7 and did not upgrade as I didn't have sufficient memory for the download.

the ladies on the other thread say that it is only happening with BCO on their Ipads. They have reported to the mods.I use an Ipod touch from time to time,,and I have no problem with it,, but then,, I didn't update it either. Desktop is no problem,,, HP desktop, using either IE or Google Chrome.

had it with iPhone too!

sorry I am on a simple windows 8 laptop and no problems~~
0 -
proud, I guess I need to rethink windows.
Guess what I can type this fine and I just submitted a complaint to the mods..ugh. Still if it is happening to some we should have it investigated. Going to monitor this problem as the devil may rear it's ugly virus head. Still not sure if it is a virus. Oh no ........it just started doing it right now in this sentence. Help mods! Deleting texts is even a worse nightmares

DANG, at least it's letting me submit, now it's normal again. Ugh frustrating. Good thing I did deep breathing lots today

this is just what the ladies who use Ipads on the Bonfire of the Goddess thread are going thru. Takes them forever to type one post,,, each letter goes really slowly,, and they can't go back to read posts either. And they lose posts.0 -
yeah, I just bought a cheapo laptop after the old one got too crankie. The windows 8 is working fine, had a gym pal set me up and it is dif from the old windows so I am planning to take a class at the local library on Monday night
things sort of disappear if I hit the side button with my arm but now I know where it hides~~maybe you are just not finding the hiding place?
0 -
It happens to me only on my iPad, and only after I get about one sentence into my post. Then, each letter takes about a full second or two to appear, and it's so frustrating, I give up. And it happens only on BCO

Ok mods emailed me back and they say it has something to do with age of ipad (mine ipad3) low memory and the IOS that you have updated to. I guess if I dump a bunch of stuff off it maybe that will help. I think I am on IOS 8.1, the latest anyway.
My screen also goes to black background with white text during my reading ibooks, then it changes back after a few seconds. I have a feeling it is related to lastes IOS.
Ok encouraging stuff. Today its very warm as we have the end of pineapple express weather and we have blue sky so I went out and moved one foot first................. and then the other....its called walking!

yeah, have dealt with old computers in the past and only recently updated my laptop, just because you have an Ipad does not mean it will be comfie if it is old~~
0 -
my ipad is less than 6 months old, and I have the current IOS, so I'm not ready to believe that explanation.
I did an in-hotel-room workout yesterday that gets my heart pumping, designed by a trainer who knows what it's like to travel for work. Today no time for it, though
