Mantra I had a failed NSM.  Left with two areolas that were very lopsided and mishapen.  My PS took skin from each hip and recreated the areolas and nipples from that skin and it worked very well.

Congrats Lou Lou!! I am almost 2 months out with mine. So far so good and have a September appointment in Baltimore with Vinny. Can you tell me how long your PS says to keep yours covered and protected? ...if you've gotten that far yet?

I have been protecting my reconstructed nipple for about two mos. and don't kow when to stop!  I don't want it to flatten out. :)

I'm the same way...scared not to protect them. Wonder how long it is before you know they are okay and will not flatten out? Anyone?

My PS told me at least 6 weeks. It has been four weeks so far, I have a small bit of necrosis on the tip where the nipple did not survive so still waiting for that part to fall off. Still looks like there will be enough left. I am wearing a plastic dome like nipple protector and cannot wait to take it off.

Hello! I just got my nipples reconstructed a month ago and now they are completely healed and I've been released! They came out beautifully! My originaly PS wanted to do so much tweaking of my reconstruction during nipple surgery (fat transfer, etc.) that I changed to another PS who did it simply and well. I had a DMX July 2010 and it's been along road to get here. I am interested in having tattoos from Vinnie Meyers and my PS said to definitely see his work first in person. My PS recommends a woman in the LA area, yet she charges 1200 per session for both sides, and requires three sessions. He swears she is the best he's found, yet after paying for this surgery it's too much money for me. I'm looking for somone in Southern Califortnia area who has had their nipples and aerolas done by Vinnie. Please let me know if you are out there and willing to meet up. I'll be happy to come to you and I'll buy you lunch!

    Hi everyone,

    Two questions and a comment:

I had DMX on April 2. Taking a break until the fall to do the nipples.

    1. Did anyone experience any negative reactions from your PS about going to another practitioner, instead of them, for the nipple tattoo? Was there a reason you didn't want to use your PS for the tattoos?

    2. My PS says I don't need to use scar cream but the cuts under the breast are particularly noticeable to me. What have you found to be the best scarring cream?

I am so glad you all are talking about nipple reconstruction. It really helps others understand the process and their options. Thank you!

    Peggy

I was really hesitant to talk to my PS about going to Vinny, but she was all for it after we looked at his site and photos together.

She said his ink will last longer and not fade as quickly and she sure couldn't do any 3-D tattooing . The only thing she ask is that I send her photos afterwards.

He charges $600.00 for both. Buy a plane ticket and go! It will be less expensive than three $1200.00 sessions.

He has a great web site with photos. . I know there are PS that also do a great job and these girls will help you to contact one..... I've never heard of anyone charging $3,600.00.

Good luck! I go in September to Baltimore to see Vinnie.....

Woohoo!! Just scheduled Nip Day!! August 7th or sooner if they get cancellations. I'm allergic to chlorine, so the whole "not allowed in the pool" thing doesn't matter in the least to me! :-)

So...my question for the other control freaks out there is:

How did you prepare for this one? Did you put stickers on to figure out placement?

    Any other ideas?

Just wanted to check in and say thanks to everyone for your advice. I made it through stage 2 last week but have to wait until nov for nips. With your encouragement I pushed for fat grafting and they look much better! I still feel pretty sore and nauseous (darn anesthesia!), but I'm reassured the next step will be fine even if I need a bit more grafting when he finally does the nipples.

And I agree that $1200 is crazy when Vinnie does the tats for half the cost! Even my ps said it was definitely worth the trip and would be better than what his nurses could do in the office.

hey DULCIGIRL .... My PS put stickers on and I stood in front of a mirror with her right before surgery . The IV was already in.....Kind of crazy because I had wondered how she would determine placement. Simple and it worked. Nips has made all the difference in how I feel. Good luck!

I am just joining this forum, as I had my exchange, having a revision July 7, and lots to learn 'bout nips before I go for nip....or 3-D vinnie visit tatoos  or both.

Just learning about this part of my journey now...

My PS did all sorts of measurements . You can also go to rubonnipples.com.

They are temporary tattoos in a variety of colors. Great fun

Obxflygirl1 I found  Scaraway silicone strips to work the best to lighten and flatten scars… and I tried a lot of things. As far as your PS getting upset you are going elsewhere for tatts… that is your decision not theirs. They will get over it. S/he could be upset for a number of reasons: likes to finish their own work or losing money.

Lago.....Peggysull was the one asking about PS's reaction to getting tattoo's elsewhere. and scar cream....I was responding to Peggysull's questions , but thanks anyway

My PS encouraged me to go..she had heard of someone in NOA but didn't know who... So we looked at his site and she said she was going to recommend him to all her patients.

Hi Everyone, as I have mentioned on here before, my daughter did my tattooing for me and I am so happy with the results. I am lucky in that she is an artist first and so has the eye and skills required. I need one more session for her to feel she has done a perfect job, she wanted to see how I healed before finishing off.

I know that the nurses or PS's can do it and will do an ok job but there is no doubt in my mind that a professional tattooist will understand colouring and shading much better. I bet there would be more of them willing to undertake this work at a reasonable cost if they only knew there is a real need in all communities.

My daughter has tattoos, tasteful but she has them. I am an artist by nature but not with needle and ink! I have watched many 'ink' programs and would tease my daughter that I should be a tattoo artist! She would laugh and say I'd have to do lots of stuff I wouldn't care to do.

She is probably right but if I was younger and knew how important this was to so many, I think I'd go wherever to learn - however it might take 6 weeks for one nipple with me doing it!

    Kudos for your daughters skill!

I had my eyeliner done maybe 15+ years ago, (now quite faded, but so am IUndecided) by a permanent cosmetic makeup artist, and she also told me she also did areolas, but was moving to AZ and starting a school for this.

I have seen other permanent cosmetic makeup artist in the Seattle area including areola work on their web pages.  Of course I would have to see portfolio of anyone's work.

I think, to check out permanent cosmetic artist locally is an  alternative for those who can't afford a trip or time off work to travel.

I think Vinnies work is fantastic, I might have to visit New OrleansLaughing and make a vacation of my trip.....but for ME revision first....it would be hard at this point to find a "central location" on either "foob"Frown

Di2012, I have seen the Phoenix( Scottsdale) site and it is impressive. I am undecided on where to get my tattoo, but a fun weekend trip to NOLA has crossed my mind. I too live in WA, mind sharing the Seattle sites?

    www.breasthetics.com

You can also google it and find a nice article in the Scottsdale living magazine .

This might also be a good option for me as we go every November.

Cascader------->...Here are a few in the Arlington,WA to Tacoma, WA area....I do not know these ladies or seen their work in person....no one in my special women support group (cancerlifeline.org) has gone the reconstruction route

    http://www.permanentcosmeticsbyhelen.com/about.htm

Helen even does it free for women in need, if you read this site (a nice lady for giving like this!).....I do not know Helen, but I have friend that had tummy tuck done at Dr Stridde where Helen works.....I do not think a PS would allow a tattoo artist in, if she wasn't an an asset to his practice  (JMHO)

    Here are some others.

You can google areola tatooing or permanet cosmetics to find some in the area)

Are you on the west side of the Cascades? (I use to live/work 5-7 days a week in the Cascades )

Need advice.. A few months ago I had my left nipple reconstruction done. My original mastectomy & reconstruction was a pedicle tram flap so my surgeon used my skin to form my new nipple. It has always been much flatter & way off to the left near the outside more so than centered on my reconstructed side. I am considering having both nipples removed & having 3D tatoos done instead. Would appreciate any feedback.

I think the reason he had to offset the nipple was my 2 c section scars ended up in the center of my new breast.

Hi - I'm scheduled for nipple reconstruction June 20 and thought I'd check in. My only reservation is about the permanent projection. I'm not much of a braless person, but it's been nice having it as an option. Any suggestions or feedback?

rachel might flattened out a lot so you can't really see them through my clothes when I am braless.  I can see them but unless I point them out noone else can.
