Hi Ladies,
It has been so hot hasn't it! We just got Ava this weekend just been, she is not loving it lol. Good on you Donna, those ranges are hard!!
Things are starting to get some traction now that the Cancer society have been pushing buttons. I am hoping I can start my 10 days of drugs for IVF treatment this Friday all depends on cycle timing. First time in my life I am hoping its late from when its due!! :P
I have a meeting with an oncologist at Auckland Hospital on Thursday so looking forward to asking some questions and painting a clearer picture.
Had my hit a wall moment yesterday morning, things have been going so well at work and i am very passionate about my job, it feels like I have a massive hill in front of me that my usual positive self has lost some confidence as to how I am going to get over it!
Would love to hear your experiences through Chemo/Work needing time off? I appreciate everyone responds differently but hearing others stories really helps me xx
I am the Sales and Marketing Manager for Taurus Leather Company, we manufacture leather toolbelts and other products for the building and farming industry. I have managed to source some NZ cow leather that has been dyed pink!!!! hehe watch this space, will put a photo up once I have a sample toolbelt made up

Amber. Aren't the Cancer Society wonderful? They pushed a lot through for me as well as taking care of my mental health.
I managed to work all the way through chemo - it was alright, doable at least. Some people suffer quite a lot, others not so much. I used seasickness bands (from the chemist - Woody recommended them, she's on here), and wore them during the first few days after each chemo influsion. They were good at taming the odd wave of nausea that I had. I would say only a couple of days after chemo were rough - I certainly looked worse than I felt. Then it's up until the next one, so I'd say 1 week in the 3 is a bit shit. I just counted down then chemo's, if I didn't then the picture was too big for me, if that makes sense.

Amber, perhaps it might be possible for you to work from home the odd day? I work from a home office full time, which was good during the off days. I would still work but maybe stay in my pj's and have a lie down if I was tired.

That is a fab idea and once I am m sure my employers will offer to me as I can remote access in to my desktop for those days when I dont have the energy - Great thing about working for a family owned business especially when it feels like you are part of the family....

Amber. I hope your appointment yesterday with the Oncologist went well.
Hi to everyone. I hope you've all had a great week. It's been too hot and humid for me.

I'm with you on the humidity.
Yes, I hope your onc appt went well Amber.
I can't believe it's Friday already. The year is going by so fast already. Just over a week and we'll be heading to Nelson for our wee holiday!
Have a good weekend

Hi lovely ladies. I hope everyone is doing well despite this horrible weather. I never thought I would wish it was winter. Hot flushes and humidity just don't go together. I might have to stop wearing make up because it melts all over my face. I looked in my car mirror the other day after work and was horrified to see black smudges under my eyes, the buggers I work with, (men) of course, didn't tell me my make up had run and I looked like a bloody Panda hahaha! Well my two friends are I are off for our second tramp on Sunday. We were going to do the Viaduct but the Seafood Festival is on so we are going to tramp around Devonport and Takapuna instead. Have a lovely weekend guys, Donna xxx

Enjoy your urban tramp Donna! Stay well hydrated

hi Ladies
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend. We had one cold day during the week and it was freezing, so I think I'd just rather we kept having warm weather but that my body would acclimatise heaps quicker than it is. I can certainly relate to the hot flushes and 'melting'.
Enjoy your tramp Donna. Kt your m/bike ride sounds fab. We have a bike also but it doesn't get used very much.
Amber I also found chemo quite doable. The first night after the first infusion was my worst - I did feel sick - nausea etc, but then it seemed to get better. If you can try and keep otherwise well, with hopefully not many side effects, you'll be ok. Try not to look at that 'hill' ....one day at a time and take time to do something special for you each day too. Great that you have your Ava now for company and distraction.
So once again Tim and I are packing and sorting this weekend! Lol. Just this one and two more left and we are out of here. We are going to have a big house leaving party over Waitangi weekend so everyone can have one last 'hoorah' at the house and we also decided that we are going to get married...but going to surprise everyone at our party by announcing it then! So it's going to become our engagement party as well. Exciting! It's been very hard having to keep my mouth zipped lol. We decided we might as well use the opportunity with our friends and family around to celebrate two occasions. And because we have both been married before, we actually just want a very quiet simple wedding, getting married on Mt Maunganui beach or something so the big party is now our focus.
I will be so glad once we have actually completed this moving fiasco though lol. I'm starting to get grumpy :-)
Take care everyone

Hi all.
I feel for you Kruise! No fun packing. Be ruthless & throw stuff you don't really need ;D
Congrats on deciding to get married! A beach wedding sounds great.
Amber, hope the harvesting goes well- how long do you have to do injections for?
I hope Mondays appt goes well. Do you know what chemo you'll be having in feb? Ava looks like a lot of fun- great to have a distraction like her
DH & DS are putting up a shed for the mower on our section. It will be great when we can go ahead & start building. Lots of decisions in the meantime...
Enjoy the rest of the weekend! A nice long one up here.

Hey Kruise - congratulations!!!
Amber I found working through chemo doable, but it's different for everybody and nobody expects you to be a hero...I used the seabands and also took the strongest ginger tablets I could find (they help settle the nausea too) .
good to hear everybody is doing well

Hi Kt
IVF process is just under 2 weeks, so injections each night up to the procedure to collect the eggs. Amazing how much there is involved. As long as they are happy with the eggs the get I should be underway to start chemo quite quickly... Planning a "shave my head" bbq before chemo starts with my family and friends I have 6 rounds of chemo coming up first 3 are docetaxel (taxotere) then 3 rounds of FEC. once that's finished radiation and 8 months of herceptin. So it's a year in total before its all over.
Hi Woodyhollow, I'm pleased to read you worked through, I do hope I respond in a way that I can as well. Good idea with the ginger will look into that
Hope those having a long weekend are enjoying it

thanks everyone so muchfor the good wishes. 😘
I have my pelvic scan today just to find out what's happening in all my girly bits. I'm hoping and praying it's all ok. Always a worry having these tests - you can never just 'assume' everything is going to be ok.
Hope your appts this week go well Amber. Yes the whole process does take a year really...but you will come out the other side of it.

Hope your scans come back ok Kruise. Good to get it out of the way. I hate 'those' scans
Amber, hoping you get good eggs harvested. Wow, it's a lot to do, but worth it
Have fun with the head shaving! May as well make it fun, it's gonna happen anyway.... I have to say I'm over having to wear hats & scarves, but my hair is slowly getting thicker. Once I cant see my scalp thru it I reckon I'll go topless. It's a lovely grey/white (not lovely).
Yes, it takes a year to get thru treatment, then another year to bounce back to normal (imo, at least - for early stage treatment that is)
I'm off to my onc assessment this afternoon. Going to take my mum & meet up with my sister for lunch beforehand. May as well make the most of having to go down to Ak. Back down tomorrow for chemo.
Have a good day all

Just had scan...my uterus lining is 1cm thicker than it should be so she basically prepped me that it will need further investigation, maybe some type of D&C or at least a biopsy of the lining to make sure there are no cancerous cells etc.
So that's a bummer but can't do much about it.

enjoy your lunch etc Kt and hope onc appt goes well.x

Phew. Back again.
Lunch was nice- good to catch up with my sis. A bit of a wait for onc, getting 2 days of patients into 1 day, fun.
I had to have a D&C while on tamoxifen too, for polyps, stopped tam after that. Good to get it checked out. Hopefully nothing to worry about- I know tamoxifen does tend to cause thickening. Maybe you can go on femara instead, Kruise?
Catch you later

Sorry you got yuck news, Kruise. Hoping it's basically nothing and you'll bounce right back.

So I asked about dying my hair when I was at chemo today and was told 'no' not even a temporary colour.
I had zometa today as well as chemo and I'm pooped! It makes me feel very heavy, such an effort to move, and to keeps eyes open.
Can't wait till next week- Nelson- and no chemo
Take care all, kt

Oh KT, sorry to hear that you're worn out. Hopefully your Nelson trip and the break in your chemo routine will invigorate you a bit. In the meantime take it easy x
A shame about the dying of the hair - I feel for you because I really wanted to dye mine immediately once I got some fuzz. Someone suggested vegetable dyes to me - the only vegetables I could think of were beetroot, corn, carrots and a bit of spinach or kale. Needless to say I wasn't that keen.
Sorry about your scan results Kruise. Hopefully you don't have to wait too long until they get to the bottom of the issue.

Hi Kt...you can get naural hairdyes that are not problematic with chemo...there is of course henna, but also others http://www.naturallyorganic.co.nz/product-category/personal/hair-care/hair-dye/

I'm having one of those nights where I just can't sleep. My brain is far too active lol. Anyway just logging on here to see if I can find out any more info on "Endometrial Hyperplasia" which is the term for what I have. I'm definitely keen to get off tamoxifen kt, will have to see what the Drs etc say.
My Aunt passed away a couple of days ago - the one that I went down to visit in Nelson in December with stomach cancer. Anyway the funeral is tomorrow so I'm flying down and back. Then we still have our big party on Sunday night. What a weekend, sadness and happiness, yin and yang...no wonder I can't sleep!! Everything is a whirlwind right now....under 2 weeks to moving day now too.
I'm sure you can find something too KT to use. The links Woody put up look good.
Hope you all have a good long weekend. x

Hi Kruise Bummer about not sleeping, but you do have a lot on. Sorry about your aunt. I hope your weekend goes well.
I'm at NSHosp ED atm. Woke up with chest pain which became intermittent so went to local docs & they've sent me here in an ambulance. Thought of you Kruise while I was in it!
I think dr is being over cautious but here I am. I hope I get to go home soon! I haven't had the pain again since I was in ambulance on the way down....
Thsnks for the hair colour tips Woody.
