Of all the rotten scumbags, Air NZ is it. Sick

    Air NZ you suck.

Update: I didn't set the link properly and now it should work OK.

    OMG Musical!

(Nice to see you by the way)

I think it's because of all the 'pink'. 'BC has become such a happy light disease & 'everyone' is cured if they catch it 'early'!

No one thinks its serious anymore!

Even my District Nurse who took my drains out- her sister was going to have BMX and was scared/upset but the nurse said she sees people with BC all the time & it's no big deal!

Yeah right- until it's you under the knife you'll never get it.

Also- did you see the thread about 30% of early stage bc recurs/becomes metastatic? They don't tell people that when they say how good early detection 'cures' bc....

Grrrr. I'm cross that it's become such a happy clappy thing to get!

Anyway. I hope you all have a good weekend. I'm feeling better each day. Just as well, back to work on Thursday! I hope it's not too much :)

    Cheers

Kt, you should go over to the Ausy site and read about Kate. she was early detection and she has mets now to spine, hips, ribs and lungs. hers was a tiny tumour even  smaller than mine and she has mets and was told or  believed that early detection was the ultimate goal to not getting mets. The  happydisease, which i agree with you, its not look on as been a big deal as they have turned into a celebration because it is looked upon cured if caught early, i wonder how balloons will be popped when they who turn it  into a no big deal end up with their balloons  popped., or are they still going to be dumb to think they are in anyway different from us. I don't think personally that some of the medical profession really know what cancer is capable of, they have ideas, but i think its got beyond them as it so vast and BIG.

Air NZ sucks, but it was one person and a man who said and he needs to be held accountable and really brought down for that, how dare he say that, who the hell does he think he is? that poor lady. i would of cried, but not before i would of vented a lot of abuse at  him first, she was probably very shocked at his comment and that can cause you to go silent,   I just wonder  how he would feel if one of his nearest and dearest got it, not that i would wish BC on any one. I hope Air NZ come to the party and apologise and help her out with what she needs, surely they are not all scum.

musical, lovely to see you to.

    hi midnight.

Yes, it is certainly not fair that catching it early doesn't mean you will never get mets....

Poor Kate. I hope they can treat it well & give her good QOL & a long life still.

I hope you are well (& your hubby). I read about your mums birthday. Sounded nice.

Good to see you too :)

kt, nice to see you too. Hope you are doing well after your prophy and that all goes well from hereon in.

I agree about the pink washing nonsense. It is very irritating and INSULTING to see people cashing in from this dreadful disease with little or no intention at all to donating. It is an outrageous racket when the money is swallowed up in admin costs and "awareness". Its also unacceptable when you try and get accountability for where your dollars go and get the runaround. Anyway, youd have to ask aware of what? We don't need damned awareness we're only too aware already. We need a cure.

    Update:

Tearful Air NZ apology to cancer patient

Good! Just as well that Gen Manager stepped up and showed compassion and did the right thing.

Midnight, this is not a case of questioning whether every single person at Air NZ is scum but that Air NZ let her down as a whole and as a company by their policy and by it, treated her like scum. In other words this poor lady should've never had to go through this ordeal in the first place.

    Have a nice day ladies.

  • midnight1327
    midnight1327 Member Posts: 1,331

yes i do agree, i think its crap they way she was treated, and i read some of the ccomments of what people said, she was making a big fuss to get to the press, they just don't get it but also of alot of nice things said too.. but that could of  been handled so differently, the poor lady has enough to deal with.  But musical, we reap what we sow and if people are so mean, there turn will come one day, not that i would wish sickness on anyone but they don't get away with it altogether. i am glad anz stepped up and going to help her, so they should. I hear this is not their only negitive things they have done either to others.

    Hi ladies

hope you all are having a nice weekend, it's beautiful in the Bay.

Shame with the whole AirNZ thing, if the media had not been involved, nothing more would have happened and it makes you wonder how many other people have had similar experiences...

No 5 chemo next week, so far ok. Noticing rings on my nails after every chemo - like rings on a tree I suppose. Can your hair grow back on docetaxol I wonder as there seems to be a bit more sprouting?

Cow has finally calved and it is a lovely miniature of herself. Been milking colostrum as I've heard it's good for you - something to do with stimulating the immune system. I make it into a smoothie with banana & strawberries.

BTW I agree with Musical about the whole pink thing, it's quite nauseating.

Well, I've been back at work 3 weeks and it has not been good, office politics suck & hope I can find something else as soon as treatment is finished. Luckily there are so many good things outside of work. Went to a LGFB workshop last week & started a mindfulness meditation course (organised by the Cancer Society) and both were lovely and good fun.

    Time for another smoothie!

"But musical, we reap what we sow "

Huh? ... But what? did I say something wrong or what really is your point?

For some reason you seem to be presenting an oppositional argument where one wasn't intended. Anyway, since you mention reaping and sewing you might want to consider how that actually takes place. For one thing, it can CERTAINLY happen through those who are prepared to stand up for others in their moment of distress and whats more it can be instant.

Just because there's the reaping and sewing principle it doesn't give those looking on a free pass to sit back and do nothing when others suffer because of idiotic moronic behaviour. Its called defending the weak.

NZ staff acted unprofessionally in a cruel and heartless manner PLAIN AND SIMPLE and it's a good job some people have got the guts to stand up for whats right.

Hi woodyhollow. I agree that as we all too often see happen...these things aren't dealt with until there's either a public backlash or likely to be one.

Love your miniature moo and baby lol. Also love the black ears. Really cute.

Not too sure on your Chemo, as they all can be so different. I did FEC and my hair didn't come back in until about 4 weeks after the last Chemo. I think some people can get some little spurts of minor growth between chemos.

SadNo the airport staff, people who treated her badly  and the horrible people who said, she was only after media attention.that was written on the comments down below. i am with you  all the way, they are going to loose lots of bussiness because of the treatment of her i am referring. But never mind they did come to her aid.  ..  i think it stinks that they did what they did. but glad she going to be looked after all.  catch you some  other time. i am going. bye

    Hi everyone,

woody how tall is the little calf at the shoulder? He looks so tiny.

midnight, as for those 500 (last time I read) comments you can count on the imbecile element who typically post in those places where they're too gutless to say things like that... other than behind a computer screen. Idiots.ThumbsDown

Hi Musical - she is 59cm at the shoulder, but her mum is a mini cow - about half size, unfortunately full size in attitude...

We still need a name for her, starting with a "N", we usually pick meat cuts for names (Scotch & Schnitzel for last years ones), but this one is too cute for the pot.

I've actually looked in the mirror three times today and I think there really is some more, my daughter says so too (or it could be that I'm pestering her to look yet again if there's more hair), and the same with my eyebrows - so exciting!! Although with chemo on Wednesday I suppose it could go again. Getting quite used to the wig - never a bad hair day!

  • [Deleted User]
    [Deleted User] Member Posts: 814

Awww woody I bet the mini cow is absolutely gorgeous and of course they have to have attitude .... I love cows except the odd nasty one like those who kick you in the cowshed. I also love steak lol but I must admit its a first for me hearing names by cuts of meat. I try NOT to name anything then I'm less likely to get attached. My hubby often says as he's patting the next candidates for the pan (sheep) awww youre going to taste good, and then he says to me, they look at him as if to say "OK whatever" ... in this case ignorance is bliss.

That's great you are getting on well with your wig. I found mine drove me a bit crazy, as it irritated my head before too long. In the end I just settled with a floppyish hat. I still have my Chemo curls and Im coming up 4 years since last Chemo. When they shaved it off it was about 2 feet long at the crown. I havent had it cut and it's probably about 18inches now.

I hated it when I lost my lashes but I didn't loose all the brows so I guess that was something. All the best for your chemo on Wednesday.

    Hi Ladies

I have just caught up with the Air NZ story and it is great that they have come to her aid and apologised for treatment.

Unfortunately this is the world we live in. Greed and profit overrides a lot of things that should happen. It's not just Air NZ it is all big companies and corporations. Fact of life is we are just customers (income) to them.

Obviously she didn't take out travel insurance at the time of purchasing the tickets or this whole thing wouldn't have happened. If I hadn't have had travel insurance for a trip we had planned this year to go away - I would have lost money. You read the terms and conditions before you purchase the air tickets and if you choose not to purchase insurance you take the risk that something could go wrong. In her case it did. Breast Cancer is a disease that requires treatment and compassion but so are lots of other medical conditions that can happen. I bet there are tonnes of people dealing with claims like this getting rejected.

In fairness to the companies tho they do specify their terms and conditions and give you an option to purchase travel insurance and if you choose not too, you do take this risk. Has anyone asked her why she chose not to take out travel insurance? Anyway - just more food for thought.

I have 5 more rads treatments to go - I'm up to 'boost' treatments now where they concentrate on the tumour site and deliver some high dose zaps to that smaller area only. It seems to take a bit longer than the regular treatments used to take.

So next Monday 11/11 I finish my last treatment and also have a follow up with my medical oncologist being a couple months since chemo finished.

My eyebrows and eyelashes are well and truly back now and hair still growing - looks like a really bad short hair cut now and I look like I'm 80 instead of 45!! Lol but it's all progress!!

Love the sound of your meditation course Woody - I should be doing that more regularly. Have done courses over the years. Anything that slows you down and makes you focus on the here and now is all good! Have you sorted out your N name yet - how about Nova (new star).

    Love n Light xxxx

Hooray for hair growing back girls!! (nice pics Smile)

Gorgeous calf, Woody. Have you decided on the name yet?

So I tried on my uniform today- back to work tomorrow- aaaggghhh!!!

It looks terrible. I like being flat when I can wear what I like- blouses etc with patterns that help disguise the flatness- but my work shirt is SO not flattering!

So I've got a cami with pockets (haven't worn it b4) and some foam shaped inserts, but I don't know how they'll hold up during the day...but they'll have to do! They should at least provide a wee bit of a 'bump' and provide some much needed protection over my still sensitive chest I hope.

Have any of you tried the Aah Bras or whatever they're called? Are they comfortable? Not too hot?...

I may need to look at getting something like that just for work.

I don't really want to wear bras & silicone foobs just yet.

    Enough moaning!

I hope you all are having a good day

Hi kt ....LOL well youre in my club now and I might be of some help. I havent got the AhBras but those other ones... is it thinlizzys or something. The larger size has an insert plus the pocket and I went for that for that very reason as well as I didnt want anything to dig into my "under the breast" line, so it is (intentionally) on the loose side. Can't remember if all sizes have the pocket.

Anyway just the way theyre made, doesnt necessarily mean you have to have a big foobs and I dont. The downside is depending on our shape it can be an issue if bras/garments "ride up". If youre nice and slim anyway, that wont be such a problem. Because I had a seroma on my 2nd mx I still have an issue where it was and there tends to be a build up of fluid or something that causes discomfort from time to time. My LEist sometimes deals to it. We havent really figured out whether its truncal LE or what. (perish the thought)

On occasions I have to just go flat and fortunately I can get away with this being in the country and with not so many people around. I have to watch LE issues.

Im about to explore camis. IN a week or so I come to my 4year cycle where Im able to get my next lot of funding for foobs etc. I'm really looking forward to seeing what camis have to offer. Apparently the suppliers will come to me too so I don't have to go to the city.

NOw, all that said, awww kt please be careful with your sensitive chest. Is there anyway you can wear something very loose so you could ditch your soft foobies if you need to?

Hope this helps kt and all the best for work tomorrow. Smile

    Thanks Musical :)

I've worn the cami & foam (just a thin shaped layer) today to see how it goes- & it seems ok. Working with it on might be different tho.

Have fun choosing your new stuff! I hope the funding covers camis, they can be a bit funny about what it covers. If you have friendly fitters they may code them or describe them in such a way that they are.

Might be cheaper to get stuff overseas too- I found that with the last amoena form I got.

Anyway. Ill let you know how tomorrow goes! I'll probably be shattered afterwards after 4 weeks off!

    Hi all

Sorry haven't been around - have another chest infection agh.

KT I wear the Thin Lizzy version of the AHH bra - you can get them at most amcal chemists. And you can put your foobs in when you want too if you get the ones that have the padding. I have a really nice soft version foob which I often wear in my tops. PM me if you want the details.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Hi Alyson

I hope you're starting to feel better & get over your chest infection! Not fair getting another one so soon after the last one...

Thanks for your suggestions. The cami & foam was ok today- but a bit loose so I could feel it all shifting a lot, which is a bit irritating but at least not painful.

It was a nice quiet day because I had a hand from one of my bosses. Back into it for real next week, but I think I should be right by then.

I think I will get a thin lizzie bra or ahh bra, just for work. I really don't want to wear anything unless I have to otherwise. Comfort comes first!

Kruise, I hope your last rads goes well- don't be surprised if you feel a little sad when its over- I know I did. I suddenly felt on my own since I wasn't having daily treatments anymore. Maybe go out for coffee/lunch with a friend to celebrate & take your mind off it :)

    Hope your feeling better Alyson.

I wear the Ahh bra - bloody comfy - don't know if it'd be too comfy if your still healing though, mine cuts into the underbelly of my foob (my foob is a bit wonky) and gets a bit sore after a long day.

Not an eyebrow in sight yet, some tiny wee eyelashes coming in but my brows look weird, and some more have fallen out dang it, I'm really impatient so I will "calm the farm" a while. How are your heads going ladies?? I have lots of fluff on the sides and back but not a sausage on top - ha, not sure what the go is there!!

    Love to all xox

Hi ladies, hope you are all doing OK especially those doing chemo and dealing with baldness and depleted lashes and brows.

Chest infections are horrible, especially when you cough until you see stars. (Ugh) I have still got the last remnants of that dang flu about a month back. I had a chest infection too so of course it was antibiots.

kt, yes I spoke on the phone to the person my GP put me onto and it turns out theres quite a lot that is funded, including camis coz I asked. Only a week to go. (more or less). Hey if youre one that doesn't mind going without, I can promise you, you will LOVE it. It is really freeing and so comfy to wear nothing. I know for me, theres times Im just not comfortable going without when Im in public. Anyway I need something to offset that horrid Tamox bulge. Smiley

Good to know Musical- have fun doing that shopping!

I may go & get some new bras/foobs with my new funding soon- not that I feel like wearing anything like that just yet.

I love not wearing anything underneath gathered/patterned tops, you're right it is freeing & very comfy.

At the mo its just work, & the ahh/thin lizzy sounds like the go there.

I hope the hair starts to grow soon Ange!

    Hi lovelies

Just two rads to go now - Fri & Mon. Thanks for the advice kt about ending treatment. I have already been psyching myself up about all that and think I will be fine. I've had different girlfriends come in with me yesterday and today. My 15 yo daughter who is now on study leave is coming with me tomorrow and my partner Tim is going to come in with me on Monday for the lucky last one.

I can recommend those soft bras too - have been wearing them for my rad treatments as they are soft on the 'burnt' areas. If you keep an eye on Grabone they often have 3 packs (white/black/tan) on special - Magic Bras or something like that.

Now I hope I don't make you super jealous Ange but I got my hair trimmed today! Lol

I ran into my wig lady at the hospital yesterday and she gave me advice about growing my hair and how I needed to keep the sides trimmed to allow for the top to catch up and grow. Otherwise I'd end up looking like 'Crusty the Clown' off the Simpsons! So I took the advice and got my sides and back trimmed up today - kind of like a pixie haircut. It felt super weird getting my very short hair cut even shorter - a real boys haircut! but I am glad I did.

Alyson hope your chest infection is getting better.

Musical - have fun shopping - hopefully you can get yourself some lovely things that not only look good but practical too.

    Much love xx

Thanks Kruise, yes, Im looking forward to seeing whats available and what I can do. In the winter bulky clothing worn outdoors can cover much (lol) including the fact that youre flat so I utilize that state of affairs lol. Still, I've liked the option of wearing (loose) bras as Ive devised a quick fix when they annoy me and I wanna get em off without stripping everything else off. Ya can't do that with the sports bra, AhBra or Thin Lizzy. In the summer you can't get away with things as much. I get super hot real easy so I like to wear just sleeveless tank tops. Thats when I need something to work well for me. Because of the nature of my surgery I can't have my tops cut too low.

Friar Tuck and Krusty the Clown - what a combo! Lol. Hope your hubby is being a bit nicer Ange if he knows what's good for him 😜

Midnight the photos of your Mums 80th party look great and nice to see a pic of you and your hubby in their too. Gee whizz hope we all make it to 80! Seems a long way off when we are battling bc at this stage.

Musical I can understand the weather dilemma and the 'bra' fashions. I guess with summer almost upon us - you'll be looking for things with that in mind at the moment. I'm a bit like you in that I overheat at the drop of a hat at the moment - only have to have a hot drink and I'm breaking out in a sweat.

My partner Tim is doing Movember - he wasn't too sure at first, as has never done it before or had a mo, but with some coaxing from me - and the fact his razor mysteriously disappeared...lol...he's giving it a go. So now he looks like a 70's porn star! Lol We make a great couple!! :-D

Hope your weekends are going well.

LOL  Kruise,  i hate the heat. unless it is that bone chilling, i won't put my blanket on. but Hubby loves the warmth.  he looks so much younger with his beard chopped off, but he really does suit a goaty, but not one that hangs below the chin, nicley shaped and short. i amso used to his beard now tho, though i tell him he is turning into a cave man, if it gets too unruly. i made him trim it b4 mothers party. lol  all the rellies would of thought i had been seaching the caves for him lol. Have  a good day.

Well today I said Goodbye to this room that I have visited diligently every day for the past six weeks!!

Also had a follow up visit with my MO. Got a bit of a surprise as after telling me I would not need any follow up hormonal treatment - he now wants to put me on Tamoxifen for 5 years because I had a small progesterone receptor percentage in my tumour. I know nothing about tamoxifen and what to expect with taking it. Can any of you ladies enlighten me with a quick Tamox for Dummies 101

Great photos, midnight. Looks like you all had a nice time.

Yay Kruise, all done with rads.

I found tamoxifen pretty easy. In fact I stayed on it for 7 years. You can do 5 or some think 10 years is better. My only SEs were mild hot flushes, a bit of peach fuzz on my face (not too bad), the worst thing was a bit of bone loss as I was premenopausal (prob partially due to chemo as well). Mind you, everyone is different.

I managed to get 2 thin Lizzie bras for the price of 1 in 2 different sizes depending on if I want it snug or looser. So far so good- I wore it to DH's work function for a few hours. I still prefer nothing as it's more comfortable, but I'm only 5 weeks out from surgery :)

    Hope everyone is good
