Yea, that goes for me too, it may not even be tamoxifin, and everybody is different too kruise. mine could  be a totally different cause altogether. You go with whats best for you and what the Doc thinks.  He is  just going to have a look as my uterus is hard to see whats  going on in there because of its formation and shape. warm gentle hugs xx

    Hi Kruise

that Mebo cream sounds really good too, but already ordered stuff to make my own radiation cream...will let you know if it works. Good that your mammogram was looking good!

Hot & muggy alright today, just been watching lightning in the distance. 4 more days at work and then probably not back until Feb...none too soon. Might not get the employment lawyer quite yet, hope to find something else once treatment is finished.

I find the length of time that one is on Tamoxifen confusing, my onc has said 2 years, some have had it for 5 years and you Kt would have had it for 10??

I was supposed to be on it for 5 years and I did stop it. But then the atlas study was coming out so I talked to my gp & she thought it was a good idea to go back on it.

(I didn't have an onc at that point)

I stopped it when I had the spotting 2 years later. Not long after that I had the rising tumour markers (tested by gp) so I ended up having an onc again.

The main reason I stayed on for the extra 2 years is I felt unprotected going off it!

    But who knows....

hi hope everyone is going well. I had taxol no 14 today. Found out on Friday that I've been approved for genetic testing. All a bit late for me but useful info for my daughter.

One of my cats has really started mothering me since my recent diagnosis so much so she is now known as nurse Gracie. She was fairly keen for me to take things easy today as you can probably see

    Hi ladies

It's been ages since I've been here and have just been reading all your posts. It sounds like everyone is progressing with treatment and life.

Shazza - that's fantastic scan results. I'm really happy for that Xmas present for you. What's involved in genetic testing? Is it sent offshore?

I am good. I had my nipple aerola tattooing done a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I had another appointment with my PS as some of my scars had become keloid and were really hurting. He put some cortisone injections into the scar. Apparently this will break them up but needs to be done 2-3 times. It was really sore and I had trouble sleeping last night with the throbbing pain. Thankfully it's much improved today.

Alyson your trip sounds fantastic. I'm glad you had a great time.

Hi ladies, i'm new here.  I'm in that stage between the confirmed dx of infiltrating ductal carcinoma and seeing a surgeon for the first time.

It been a month since my first visit to GP about the lump I had been secretly hoping would disappear and being reassured that 9 out of 10 lumps are b9.  I feel like I've been waiting for an eternity. As well as the paranoia that it is advanced and I wont survive - to denial - to the secret joy of maybe getting a perky pair of boobs when I get through this (dark humor makes it  slightly easier to bear)

And finding a place on this site from home has made my day, as our healthcare system is different to the american one.  Thanks for being out there!

Jo, welcome to the place you don't want to be. We are here to help, give advice if we can and hand out hugs when needed. When do you see your surgeon?

    Big hugs

    Hi Jo,

There is  a great bunch of kiwi women here. Yes, since our system is so different to the americans it is helpful to have local advice.

I have IDC as well. But I have had it for 6 years so am in a quite different place to many. This time of finding out all the facts is hard and shocking. Take it one day at a time and try not to get too far ahead of where you need to be. Easy to say and hard to do.

Ask questions and remember to write things down if you are meeting with medical people. It is sometimes hard to remember what has been said during meetings and you might want to check things out when you come home. There can be lots of terms used that you won't be familiar with but can check up on for more info later at home.

Keep breathing deep and take one day at a time.

Happy New Year all and may it be a wonderful one!

Welcome to this forum Jo, lots of useful information and so good to hear from women who have been there.

It's been a while since i posted. I am now in Palmy doing the radiation thang, which so far is a piece of cake compares to chemo. Staying in Ozanam St Marys which is a short hop, skip and jump from the hospital. Have had 9 of the 25 treatments planned.

I tried to make my own cream for radiation but something went wrong with the emulsion process and it separated...using pawpaw/aloe vera gel now, and so far all good.

As it's weekend now most of the inmates have gone home so a bit bored...Have become a member of the local gym - something I have been meaning to do for years - and am now working out and sweating buckets every day.

    Take care all & hugs

Seeing surgeon on the 8th, trying to keep busy at work until then - it takes my mind off it and makes the days go by fast, the nights waiting aren't too crash hot.

Thanks for the advice about not getting too far ahead (can't help thinking the worst as have only had bad news so far - apart from the day the dx was confirmed, the courier delivered my laptop back as it was away being serviced for the past 6 weeks, with tears in my eyes I told the poor guy he had made my xmas!!  He probably thought I was barking mad) lol

Nearly time to get back to normal re work etc. Kids still home from school tho!

Sure is hot too! Might get a wee bit of rain tonight, which would be nice.

Wow, Woody- so 3 more weeks to go (or just over) - that's a long time to be away from family & home.

I hope it goes quickly for you.

Midnight, you have a busy month coming up. I hope it all goes well.

thanks Midnight, might take you up on that...

time goes weird here, feels like I've been here for months. It is a long time to be away from family, but we skype every night, so that is cool and I'm planning te make a trip home next weekend!

Woody - best of luck for the rest of your radiation. It is easier but it also is cumulative - I did feel sicker and tired at the end - plus I ached everywhere! I'm sure all that radiation was whirling around inside me looking for a way out.  I have a follow up appt with my rad onc at Welly hospital tomorrow - then am flying back up to Tauranga to keep holidaying with the family. :-)

Jo - sorry you have to join us here - and we all know exactly how you are feeling. At least once you see the surgeon you will have a plan and can go from there. Keep thinking only positive thoughts. What part of NZ are you?

Glad everyone else is doing ok! Good luck with going back to work kt.

    Much love x

    Hey lovelies,

Have been awol for a while, getting on with things and growing some fluff.

Hope you all had a great Xmas and New Year, mine was very quiet - hubby had to work (he's in the police) so just me and the kids - was nice and somewhat peaceful - as peaceful as a 6 and 4 year old can be lol.

Welcome along Jo, what part of NZ are you from hun?  All the best for the 8th!

I've got a surgery coming up at the end of the month for a nipple reconstruction, they're also going to do a bit of liposuction around my tummy to even it up - WHAT!!!!  I know right!  Have an appointment with a councillor about the BRCA test - anyone been through that?

Anyway, much love to all xox

Hi Ange, good to see you! Glad the hair's growing & Christmas etc was good.

Wow, a nipple & a trim tummy- sounds good :)

    Thinking of you tomorrow, Jo.

Wow its hot again- just spent the last 2 hours mowing lawns, phew! Time to cool down & chill out before feeding animals & making dinner. A woman's work is never done... & 16 year old son's don't like working in the heat outside  :(     I need to get tougher!

(My 18 year old daughter is a bit more helpful- she just picked up a load of alpaca poop, fun)

    Have a nice night

    Thinking of you tomorrow Jo.

Remember to ask any questions you can think of. Write them down so you remember.

No matter how minor or silly you think they might seem to the bs you will feel better if you ask them. None of them are silly, they are important to you.

make sure he/she explains exactly what each choice means for you both short term or long term.

Then give yourself a bit of time to think things over. No decision needs to be made immediately. Panic can force us to demand to have it out and gone instantly but in fact no damage will be done by pausing, taking a deep breath and reflecting on all that you have been told.
