JenH2015 - I'm right there with your daughter on the needles - I can't look or my knees get weak.

My pattern with the taxol is similar. The infusion is Wednesday - I get very achy/tired on Thursday and Friday, and by Saturday afternoon I start to feel better. By Sunday it's just twinges in joints. I have had zero nausea, for which I'm very grateful. My hair is currently kind of a fuzzy halo, and seems to be coming back.

Carrie - I could have written your post...we really are chemo twinsies LoL.

Just had #4 last Thur and felt ok day of infusion - just tired from Benadryl. Then some diarrhea kicked in that night and I fought it off with Imodium. Fri/sat just tired and mild nausea. Sunday was decent but then I felt like crap on Monday with icky tummy, fatigue, nausea, and diarrhea. Today...just tired and some mild nausea.

    Bekah,

If you haven't yet, you should talk to your MO or nurses about the nausea. There are lots of things they can do to prevent this if your current regimen is not working. I didn't have any nausea on Taxol. I had an upset stomach not even nausea really on my first AC infusion. I just thought it was expected but the MO asked how I felt and I mentioned it, she changed my anti-nausea meds slightly and I didn't have anymore upset stomach. Now fatigue, yup, days 3 and 4 usually like clock work. I made it through all 12 infusions. I did get some neuropathy around infusion 4/5. Good Luck,

Becca, do you still have neuropathy? Of not how long did it take to go away? Love, Jean

    Hi all,

I'm doing 12 weekly Taxol in a clinical trial. So I'm doing this first... Then surgey, then AC chemo.

I have been feeling great and exercising everyday! No nausea, not that tired... And then slowly I started getting muscle aches in my back... I have #7 tomorrow and my back is really sore... Tailbone up to shoulders... Heating pad helps but I'm sore. Anyone else experience this? It's totally freaking me out!

Lillie Rose - That's interesting as they are doing your chemo backwards from what most people get. (AC first then the Taxol). I heard that I would/could get neuropathy on week #7 of Taxol and that I would get more tired towards the end of the weekly Taxol.

    Jean,

Yes, I do still have neuropathy. It has been 10 weeks and instead of numb my feet are feeling hyper sensitive. I am told by numerous Drs, therapists that minimum is 3 to 6 months for it to go away. I got neuropathy in my hands around 9 or 10 and they do seem to be improving. I am hopeful it will go away but the feet have really become annoying.

    Good Luck, MJ

I'm in a clinical trial testing taxol on Triple Negative... Huge study done at MD Anderson about Taxol first that was super promising so I decided to give it a shot. It's scary but I've poked around and found other people doing Taxol first.

I'm more nervous about the back pain! It's freaking me out!

My back was sore a couple of times early on!

I just had my LAST ONE!! I have not had any significant neuropathy. My hands and feet have been achy at times, one thumb feels sort of burny occasionally, and a couple of fingers here and there will feel weird sometimes. But no numbness or tingling at all. It was my biggest fear from Taxol but I seem to have made it through mostly unscathed. I'm going to keep taking my glutamine and B-6 until I run out of them, which should be a few more weeks.

Molly, Congratulations that is awesome!!  I have 3 more to go, I'm trying NOT to rush the summer away, but I'm looking forward to June 12th (the date of the last one, if all goes well)!! :)

LillieRose, I will be having my 10th Taxol this Friday and I do have some back pain (which I have read is normal for Taxol), more so in the middle of my back and I get back spasms, something that I never had before.  I also have joint pain, I exercise everyday too and have been trying to do harder workouts, I think that exercising is a great way to stay motivated and it really helps keep your body going, even though there are days when I don't feel like doing it!! :)

    Congrats, Molly!

I have been taking L-Glutamine (powder, 3 x 10 grams/day) and Vitamin B-6 too. I had some burning, tingling sensations alternating with some numbness, more in my fingers and hands than feet, but they always have resolved. My MO told me to continue Glutamine for about a month after last chemo.

Molly, congratulations!! And to those of you nearing the end of weekly treatment, thank you for your posts. It helps so much to read about your experiences for those of us still early on (I am going for my 3rd today)

Congrats, Molly! I agree, it is such a great help to read the posts and hear about the experience of others. I just finished my 4th, but I like to say on my 3rd, 25% done, on my 4th 33% done.

    Hi Beckster -

Yes, I've had stomach pain and cramping as well - mostly it's the first few days after the treatment. Way fewer side effects than the A/C; they told me that was the worst and it's been true!

I've had cramping and diarrhea the first couple of days after each treatment but it goes away after that.

hi guys. Had my first taxol on Thursday and today is Sunday... Super cramps and terrible back pain yesterday and last night. Normal? I'm scared of all this... I did pretty darn well with the AC... Now I'm worried this is going to kick my butt.

Hi Stacy, I did have some cramps here and there throughout my 12 Taxols. I didn't have much of a back pain, just aches and pains throughout my body, a little like flu, but no sharp pains.

Taxol has been much easier for me than AC. Most of my side effects arrive two days later. Mild nausea, tiredness and feeling blah. Eyebrows starting to go after treatment #2. I can feel my leg hair coming back at a snails pace though. I might have more stubble on my head. Not sure about the latter as my head wasn't shaved completely down to a shiny bald. I was really hoping to keep my eyebrows through this, but what can you do? In the big picture it's not the end of the world.

Do you mean like muscle cramps? If so, try bananas or potassium.

I'm 3 days post final Taxol and my eyebrows are starting to finally go. It seems extra mean for them to fall out now after chemo is over!

I noticed more muscle aches in the first couple of weeks but after that it subsided. My skin was sore to the touch each week for about 24 hours but the aches and weird shooting pains throughout my body went away.

I am through the worst of my final weekly cycle (days 3/4) and I really really can't wait until my dry bloody nose heals up. It has been the one consistent SE every single day of the past 12 weeks.

Congratulations again Molly! I can't wait until I get there- 9 more for me! Will you be continuing on the Herceptin every 3 weeks? I will be interested to see how that is going for you and if there are any similar side effects. I have only had one Herceptin (2nd one will be this week) with the Taxol so I am not sure how Herceptin alone will be. Hope you continue to do well and feel stronger every day.

Kerry, I started Herceptin only last week, so I had just one so far. I had some aches for a couple of days, but not terrible. My blood pressure has been high suddenly for the past few days, so I'm wondering if Herceptin could have caused it. My BP has always been rather low.

Thank you BB- best wishes to you for your surgery. You've already been through so much but you're getting even closer to completing this. Please check again soon and let us know how you're doing.

Yes, I have to do Herceptin through next March. I got it weekly with Taxol, but have had the 3 week dose twice (first time by accident and then this most recent week with my final Taxol) and I didn't notice any difference. All my doctors and nurses keep insisting Herceptin alone will be no big thing, so I hope that's true. My next one is scheduled for the 17th at 8:45 on a workday, and I am planning to come straight to work after.

I have been really lucky with the hair - I had 10 of 12 Taxol yesterday and, although my hair is much thinner than it was, it still look fairly normal. I can see the difference, but no one looking at me would realize I am on chemo. I had long hair going into chemo - and knew that I did not want long hanks of hair falling out, but I also did not want to do the taxol's dirty work and shave my head myself, so I compromised on getting a really short cut but not a buzz cut. This has worked GREAT. I have enough hair to give me the illusion of a full head (the hairs that are there help cover the thin spots. Long hair would have looked horrible by this point. My hair came out the heaviest about week 4 and 5 (there was hair all over the house and my sweatshirts were a mess). It is still falling out a little but the rate has slowed down. I know that I am an outlier in terms of the amount of hair I have kept to this point, but just let folks know that there is a wide range with Taxol (loose everything on your body to just thinning.)

As for the symptoms - I am tolerating the Taxol really well - but have a consistent pattern of bleahs. I get my treatment on Tuesday afternoon, and, although I wake up felling fine on Friday, by 7-9 in the morning I start feeling off (nausea, fatigue and mild disorientation). Some weeks, I feel better before dinner (although this is a day I usually tell the family to figure out their own food). Last week was the worst so far, but even then I started feeling decent about 8 pm. A few weeks, I have started feeling a little off on Thursday or continued feeling bad on Saturday, but Friday is definitely my worst.

I will be taking Taxol weekly for 12 weeks after surgery. I am on 4 treatments (every 3 weeks) of carbo, taxotere, herceptin, and prejeta now with 2 down and 2 to go. I then have surgery. How long is the time between surgery and 12 weeks treatment?

I had to wait three weeks after surgery before starting chemo. I had a lumpectomy; I don't know if it's different for mastectomy.
