Weekly Taxol group

AJ,
My MO insists that there is no research supporting the idea that icing of the fingers and toes helps to prevent neuropathy. I didn't look into it after she told me that. I think some women on these boards have tried and feel that it helps. I didn't do anything different to my nails/feet and I have only had very minor symptoms. The bottoms of my feet are sensitive and my nails feel sore when I press on them. It has not gotten any worse and it's something I notice but it doesn't become intolerable at all. Good luck!

My Mo feels the same way, I asked him about icing hands and feet and he said not to worry about it. I also have acrylic nails and he said he was fine with me keeping them for another month or so. He said for the first few rounds they would be fine.

my MO said the same thing. I didn't do anything to fingers or toes and had nonproblem

Mine also! He said there is nothing really proven to help, but he was OK with me taking glutamine and B-6.
I am 2 weeks out now and my fingertips are still a little sore. That started in my very last week but was my only neuropathy-related thing.

I take Glutamine via my protein drink. I don't know if it's helping, but my side effects are minimal. Especially compared to AC.

I had Taxol #6 (of 12) last Thursday and for the past few days I've had the tiniest bit of tingling/numbness sensation in my fingertips and toes. Hopefully that's as far as it goes.
Also, I'm getting a few mouth sores again. I got a few on AC but I hadn't heard of Taxol causing mouth sores. Anyone else have this with Taxol?

I have a question about bone pain. Is that being caused by the steroid or the chemo? Because I had a tiny bit of it last time and even less this second time. They cut my steroid down and I am wondering if that is why I had less of it.

Bekah: Are you taking glutamine and B6?
0 -
Bekah, I have heard of people getting mouth sores on Taxol.
For those of you who look closely at your labs, have you noticed changes in some of the metabolic panel items? My BUN/Creatinine ratio was really high today. I know that test is not too reliable. My Urea nitrogen was high (hence the high ratio) but my calcium was also low. Wondering if this is par for the course or not. I will ask MO but I do not see him until next week. I have completed AC and 3 Taxol.

I taking B6 but not glutamine.

Bekah, i did get a small mouth sore once on Taxol, I kept using Biotene mouthwash per my MO's orders.
KBeee, yes, my blood work was all over the place on Taxol and BUN/Creatinine ratio very high.

My liver enzymes were high. When I asked my MO (who I need to constantly point out I can't stand) said that can happen with Taxol. Very helpful lady, Ugh.
Bekah: Lysine for mouth sores. Ask your doctor it is ok to take. I take 2 at the first sign of one and then pop a few more throughout the next 48 hours. Has always worked but I haven't had any on Taxol so far.

Allison - my liver enzymes were very high on my May 28th blood work (of course they haven't posted my June 4th blood work yet) I still received my Taxol that week though.

Thanks, Mary. Please let me know when you get June 4th how it is.

I asked MO yesterday and he said although there is no evidence it works he is not against it so I purchased it this morning and started the LGlut and the B complex.

Yesterday was my first of 12 THP tx. So far I am fine but I know Im running on steroids. Hope this is easier on me than the AC

As far as no evidence that it works, you have to realize they don't do clinical trials on supplements, at least not that I know of. I am learning a lot about drug trials because a friend of mine and her husband started a company a few years ago to do trials and that's all she talks about.

I believe they did do a study on the Glutamine with Taxol. It was a small group. I'm on my phone and can't look up the link, but in the group that took 10 grams daily of Glutamine there were fewer side effects and a quicker recovery.

Hi Ladies.. will be joining this group as of today as I start Taxol weekly. Need a miracle.. hope this is it. Have mets in over 15 spots in my body including bones (spine, ribs, etc.), liver, both lungs. Left lung is the worst it has partly collapsed and has fluid in it. My cancer caused a blood clot and now taking daily injections of fragmen (powerful blood thinner). All the hormonals have failed and my cancer is grade 3 and very aggressive. Yet I keep positive and hopeful.Cathy

Today was my last Taxol treatment!! I can't believe that I was able to keep my normal 50 hours of working a week during the AC and then Taxol and took care of my house, dogs and myself for the last 5 months. Looking back I can only say that it was a miracle and if it were not for you ladies on here, I probably would have lost it. Though I didn't post much, I would read through to see how everyone else was coping and your words of encouragement to each other is what helped me get to this point so a BIG THANK YOU for being the great woman you are!
Cathy, as I celebrate a small milestone today, my heart is saddened by what you are going through! You are in my thoughts and prayers, positive thoughts and big hugs your way!!

Cathy, I don't honestly know what to say but I wanted to extend my thoughts and prayers to you.
6: Congrats on your last Taxol! Do you have to had rads?

Question...I just had my 5th Taxol. I'm so tired after Taxol infusion that I go home and sleep for 2-4 hours. When I was on AC I would be super-woman when I got home. Mind you....24 hours later super-woman would disappear and it would be "bag of side effects woman" for 5 days. I was just curious if anyone else became super tired on Taxol. Other than that taxol is a lot easier to handle than AC

Ninja, They give you a big dose of IV Benedryl before your Taxol which knocks you out.
Cathy, Praying Taxol works where the hormonals did not.
6 doggies, congrats!

Mary,
I just finished #3 and they gave me 50 mg of Benedyrl the first time and I think 25 the second and 12.5 the third. They are also cutting the steroid. I was not as hyped up for #2 and #3.

Ninja, I would go right back to work after my Taxol infusion and then I would be "superwoman" for the rest of the day and the next, fatigue usually hit me on day 3 and last until the 5th day, it wired me up for some reason, it is amazing how everyone reacts differently.Trvler, I do have to have radiation, waiting on the RO to call me to set up an appointment and hoping to not have 33 treatments, but we will see!

Ninja,
I slept through most of my taxol, the benedryl just knocked me the hell out I'd get waked up for a cold cap change. Then I'd be buzzing for 3 days on steroids. I asked them not to cut the steroids on me as those three days after I had tons of energy and I needed that!
Cathy, good thoughts from me to re: taxol. Hope it does the trick for you.

Hi ladies! This is my first post on this group. .I just finished up AC..... starting 12 weeks of Taxol (+ Herceptin) next week. I saw my MO today and she's not gung-ho on L Gluatmine or B6, but wasn't opposed to me taking them. She wouldn't recommend any dosages tho... I'll start by trying 3tsp 2x per day of LGlut and 100 mg of B6 after reading here.
Cathy: big hugs and prayers coming your way!

Cathy sorry to hear about your mets. I too have multiple mets but weekly Taxol has kept me stable for over 18 months. I have had 81 infusions so far. It is a very doable long term chemo. The first 12 weeks are the hardest then you get into a rhythm I think. Fatigue is the hardest thing but I still manage to work. There is a thread called Weekly Taxol for stage 4 which has lots of info for those of us that don't get to stop after 12 weeks. Best of luck toyou
