Does anyone else deal with diarrhea every stinkin day? Ugh...this is getting so old! I had one day of soft, but relatively normal BM and the other days it's all been watery D. This morning I woke up at 4:00 with nausea and diarrhea and spent an hour in the bathroom instead of cozy in my bed.

Immodium helps but I don't take it preventively...only after I've had the D. Rx Lomotil didn't help at all.

And I feel so achy all over. Waaa...waaa...I just feel like complaining today I guess. These last 4 are gonna do me in and I don't know if I can keep working even the 2 days a week that I have been. This just sucks...

No, Bekah. I have had no problems but I have had constipation my entire life so I think it it weren't for that, I would. Oddly, I am taking another med where diarrhea is a SE and nada. Nothing. I am sorry. That sucks that you have to miss out on sleep to go. Have you tried eating things that are known constipaters like white flour and bananas?

But you have HAIR. I think about your hair ALL THE TIME. I check my stupid scalp like 10x a day for any sign. lol. I am pathetic.

Bekah - My MO has a preventative protocol - sounds like you should use that - starting day after chemo - take 2 immod. w/every meal for 4 days? She says the patients that have trouble do better w/the preventative protocol than waiting for it to start?

I got taxol/herc/perjeta last week and only had super mild D on day 5,6,7 - but I generally take metformin (not when it's the week of taxol/her/per tho) so that level of D is not on a level of bother for me (metformin totally sucks and is so hard on your insides!)

I hope you feel better soon!!

Haha! Yes, my hair is coming in nicely. Of course it's not fast enough for me but I know it's faster than most so I'll just be grateful.

I am eating higher fiber foods to try and regulate but it's not helping. White flour and bananas don't work well for me because the sugar reaction I get is worse than the diarrhea!

Ugh. I am sorry. It's a problem I rarely have but being a slave to home is a pain in the butt. Excuse the pun. Are you working at all now? Any bites on the house? Post pics of your hair to give me home if you can.

So sorry Bekah,  I hate that you still having a rough time!  And I too am very jealous of your hair!! LOL  I too Allison, obsess daily over hair!! And even though I take Biotin and rub all kinds of scalp cream on my head... I ain't seeing zilch.....

I am having a bit of the D today.... but this is the first day.  Muscle pain went away and is now replaced with D.... Only had 1 taxol so I don't know if its gonna be one of my SE's or if I just ate to many brussel sprouts yesterday  :)

I'm working 2 days a week right now but don't know how much longer I can do it - hopefully I can get through the next 4 treatments with this schedule.

No bites on the house yet :(

I'll post more hair pics later today. I'm laying on the couch in my dark office right now but when I get up I'll take some pics

Has anyone lost their fingernails dying Taxol? I am just wondering what they looked like before they fell off. Mine hurt like heck and seem to be getting worse.

So far after 4 (5 was today) I have no issues with my nails. But I am not as far into it as you. Are you weekly or biweekly?

My fingernails were fine through entire Taxol. One toe nail, the big one got a little discolored and started hurting. I have been wearing a band-aid wrapped around it for about a month now, hoping it won't fall off.

Bekah, I'm obsessed with psyllium fiber. You can buy it in capsules from Target or loose at Trader Joe's (and stir it into juice or water.) It is gentle on my stomach (unlike chia seeds), but it helps create bulkier stool, so it can help with diarrhea.

(You are welcome for the details of my digestive health, Internet!)

I used cryotherapy during Taxol so my results apply to that. My fingernails discolored while doing A/C but never fell out. They are now back to normal. My toenails discolored during Taxol despite the cryotherapy. They have also been very sensitive. My big toes and little toes are still discolored. The big toes are the worst but they seem like they will hang in there and not fall out. I'm being very careful with them. I desperately want a good pedicure but am holding off until the discoloration grows out. I am 13 weeks PFC. I also take Biotin. Good Luck, MJ

I am having the exact opposite problem with BM.  Severe, and I mean severe constipation.  Almost didn't get my last Taxol.  They were afraid I may have a bowel obstruction.  When it gets hard and bloated and your not even passing gas it can be trouble.  I had 2 bowel movements (only upon taking extreme amounts of powders and stool softeners) in 2 and a half weeks.  I'm told its due to both the narcotics and the Fragmin injections for the blood clot.

Question?  How long before you ladies started getting some hair back?  I was shocked to hear you did while still on the Taxol.  Last chemo I didn't get it back till months after finishing.

I have no idea how you can still work and do chemo.  24 hours after Taxol I hit the bed and hardly leave till the 4 day, and then only to tire very easy and return.  By day 5 and 6 and  I'm up and doing more normal things. Only to return to the cyle again.  This better kick cancers Azz.

    Cathy,

I really have no hair re-growth. Sure I feel some pricklers, but they were always around as I didn't get shaved completely to the skin. Regarding working...I've been doing it and it's getting much harder towards the end of each chemo course. Unfortunately I need my job and income too much. (more added stress!!) Up through Taxol #6 I went back to work the very next day. Going forward I'm taking off the day after like I did with AC. There is only so much I can handle and do anymore.

Bored at chemo yesterday, I wrote this......

On the twelfth week of Taxol, my chemo gave to me....

    12 bloody noses

    11 brow hairs left

    10 numb fingers

    9 facial rashes

    8 weeks of constipation

    7 nails a lifting

    6 neutrophils left

    5 sleepless nights

    4 limbs without hair

    3 sore bones

    2 bloated legs

    And

    Peripheral neuropathy

To the tune of the 12 days of Christmas.

Love the 12 days of Chemo Karen... LOL

Coming up on Taxol #2 tomorrow..... I am super nervous because of that reaction I had.  Is it possible to react every time? Or is it a one time thing?  If it happens everytime I'm gonna need some Zanax for this shit!  I used to be so laid back about health stuff... since this BC bullshit I convince myself on the daily that I am dying. Having that reaction weekly will certainly send me over the edge!

Ladies further along on Taxol than I - does the HGB number keep going down over treatments or is it still just recovering from the AC treatments? At Taxol #2 mine is 9.3 and just wondering if it will slowly go up as I get farther away from that AC #4?

No idea Princess... mine was 9.8 before Taxol #1... I'll let ya know what it is tomorrow when I go.  But I do have a friend who did Taxol only.... her bloodwork stayed the same throughout... She said you wouldn't have known she was on chemo by her blood work.  She might be a really good case but I think Taxol is just much easier on the blood than AC.  How far out from AC are you?  It could def be left over from then.

Thanks Leigh - mine was 9.8 last week also - yesterday was taxol #2 so I did AC#4 only 3 weeks ago?

KBeee, the "twelfth week of Taxol" is hysterical. Thank you for that! Smile

ThePrincess, I posted this in the other thread for you but might be worth repeating here for other Taxol patients - my hgb was going down from Taxol throughout the treatment. It is still low, but slowly creeping up. I am on iron pills prescribed by my MO.

All my RBC-related things started dropping after Taxol #8, but never got super low.

I am 4 weeks PFC today and pretty sure my hair is for real starting to grow. It's super light blonde or white fuzz so hard to see unless you look at an angle. But my leg hair is definitely growing so I don't think I'm imagining the hair on my head!

I'm 5 weeks PFC and no leg hair to speak of - not that I'm missing it, but I do miss my eyebrows and eyelashes (about 10% left of what I had Scared).

Princess - my Hgb was at 13.9 in Feb. Now it's at 12.2 after 6 taxol's. It climbed in AC and dipped during taxol. I don't get it. My MO told me not to analyze my blood work so much. I get where she is coming from, but I'm obsessed.

I just finished Taxol #5. My Hemo has stayed pretty consistent: 12.2, 11.7, 11.4, 11.6, 11.6 respectively. Last week I made them give me a 4 week side by side printout for reference.

Anyone know if Taxol takes 48 hours to exit your system or 24?

My Hgb got down to 8.9 after Taxol #4 or 5 but has slowly started to climb back up. MO says it was due to the bone marrow suppression of AC and as that wears off it typically comes back up. Last week I was up to 10.3.

My hair is coming in pretty quickly actually. I come from a hairy family so maybe that helps? I can actually grab pieces between my thumb and finger now!

Tomorrow will be Taxol #9 for me.
