    Mareluna,

Can you tell me about the direct to implant surgery?  Does that mean you won't have to have TE's and fills?  Is the implant already at full size?  Thanks.

    Hi Waiting.

    http://breastreconstruction.org/TypesOfReconstruction/direct_to_implant.html

I picked this type as I did not want to do expanders and fills. I was researching types. So I don't want to stay a D cup and choose to go smaller this one can be done. I get the bmx and the PS puts implants in pockets behind pectoral muscles. And down the line if i need to revise it will be done.

    Mareluna,

I am now a size 36DD, I want to go to a full C at most.  I am a unilateral, so I would need a reduction in my healthy breast.  I would love to be able to bypass expanders and fills though.  Haven't gone to my BS appt yet, and dont know which PS he works with, so for me it's speculation right now, but I hope this plan could be a reality..

I just had #6 of 12, weekly Taxol and Herceptin. Feeling pretty good, I agree with everyone it is definitely easier than AC but no walk in the park for sure. I still have nausea but the nausea meds help a lot. A lot of aches and pains at times, worse after Neupogen on Friday and Mondays. I take the Claritin which helps some. I have frequent nose bleeds but has gotten much better since started using humidifier. Yesterday was blowing my nose and blood came out my left eye, a little freaky...lol! A few hot flashes but nothing major. Just a little numbness/ tingling in feet/hands at times, they stay really cold most of the time. I have lost all of my eyelashes and almost all of my eyebrows with the Taxol, I had already lost my hair to the AC. I'm starting to see some new hair growth all over my body at this time:) I've had a lot of stomach pains with this round, comes and goes at times.

I will have surgery after I finish this round, then start on 40 weeks of Herceptin. Will find out after surgery if I need radiation. Anybody else having chemo first then surgery? Just curious.

I have enjoyed reading all of your posts, it really helps to see that your not alone in this wicked battle. It can be pretty dark at times but we have to look around and see that there is always someone worse off than you are and we have to be thankful for what we do have. Good luck to you all:)

    Mwilson,

I am on a similar regimen, I had 4 A/C treatments, now on #8 of 12 taxol, will be doing herceptin for one year, but only every three weeks.  I will most likely be having a mastectomy when I complete the taxol,(after a short break).  I had a lumpectomy done last August.  I agree the A/C was horrible, taxol not too bad in comparison, but I still have days when I don't feel good.  Fatigue has been a big issue for me throughout.  Good luck to youas well.

My first Taxol treatment went pretty well today. I don't feel anywhere near as bad as I did on the day of my AC treatments, so feeling hopeful. I slept most of the afternoon after I got home from the Benadryl. They did have to pause the treatment at one point for about 15 minutes because I started feeling some tingling in my arms and my BP went up. They gave me more Benadryl and then continued the treatment. It went fine after that.

Taxol two of twelve today.  No reaction so no more premeds for me.  They are cutting pepcid, steriod, and benadryl.  I spent the better part five hours feeling a little out of it after sleeping for two.  Love those warm blankets they bring you!

Taxol one went like this.  Tired on tired on treatment Thursday, good Friday and Saturday, tired and achey on Sunday, okay Monday, really tired on Tuesday, and a good Wednesday.  No nausea.  Ridiculous hot flashes that I was not prepared for at 33!  Food tastes okay.  We have friends that provide dinner on Thursday and Friday, and freezer meals for the weekends so it has cut the workload down.  Now if the laundry fairy would come!

Love reading about the ladies a few week ahead.  So grateful for the mission that we are on togehter and the knowledge and experiences shared.

AC 4 was the worst for me.  I was in bed from Dec 28th to Jan 2/3 basically.  No energy, fatigue worse than after having the baby.  It was a dark time for me.  Praying for those of you wuth AC 4 still left that it is easier.

5th sib, I don't understand why they don't warn us about the steroid flush - I was so afraid I had a fever or something, which they actually did warn me about. In addition to making me look healthy the day after treatment, the steroids really helped my arthritic knees and hands. Unfortunately now that I'm PFC and the steroids have completely worn off, the arthritis is back with a vengeance. :(

I'm also doing chemo first with surgery to follow....14 wks of mm-121 (a study drug) with Taxol added for 12 wks and then AC every 2 weeks X 4.  Almost wish the AC was first to get it over with....

Strange, got the same steroids in same amount with my AC. Never had the flush. Maybe its the combination of Taxol and steroids.

Mermaidia -- My MO mentioned yesterday that some places do Taxol first but he preferred to get the rough part over first. What kind of study are you in?

Yes, Adagio, it very well could be your nuelasta shot. My neupogen shot makes me feel awful. with body aches and pain in bones. I was getting chemo in thursday, felt ok friday, neupogen saturday, sunday and monday in bed.  (((hug))) I hope it gets better.

I was taken off my chemo yesterday because it is not working. I made it thru 9 of 12. I have a slow growing cancer that does not respond well to chemo, but the docs thought they would try anyway. I have surgery in a couple of weeks to remove the big lump in my arm pit and then I get tamoxifen. I had a clear PET scan before chemo, so hopefully it will stay clear for awhile before I have to deal with it again. Undecided

Two days past first Taxol. My eyes watered a lot yesterday. Better today. Head still doesn't feel quite right but no nausea. Back is hurting a little. Red flush is gone.

Yes the benedryl in my IV would make my legs restless. I'd be flopping around at chemo trying to get comfy.  It would settle down about 15 min. before the end of chemo. I AM a month out now and i think my legs just ache.

Hi, I am 61 and just finished dose dense biweekly AC with such severe side effects that I could do nothing 11 of 14 days and babied myself the remaining 3days.

I start biweekly Taxol on Monday for 4 cycles to be followed by a BMastectomy.

Today is the first day I feel almost normal. My onc has promised that taxol will be easier.

So, I'd like to join this thread so that I can weather taxol better and get stronger before surgery. I don't think I would have made it thru AC without these boards.

Thanks for being here. Here's crossing fingers that Monday starts a better phase of treatment!

Peggy - hope Taxol goes well for you. I have had only one treatment of Taxol, and to be honest, I have felt miserable from it - I guess I had become familiar with the S/E of AC - but the taxol s/e are totally different. I have weird feelings in my hands - like they are twice the size they look. My nose is bloody, my knees ache, my finger nails throb, my face hurts, I have a bumpy rash all over my legs which is exceedingly itchy. I have pins and needles in my left foot and a blood blister on one of my toes!  Perhaps these are all usual side effects, but I don't like them. Already dreading the next treatment on Feb 1st. The upside of Taxol is that the nausea is not present and that is welcome.

    Adagio,

I'm so sorry to hear about your first taxol. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night anticipating tomorrow, both the possible allergic reaction during infusion and the side effects after.

My MO told me to take Vitamin B6' 100 mg 2 times a day. I'm also going to continue with the Claritin and add L-Glutamine that someone on this thread suggested. It feels like a crapshoot whether any of these will help with the SEs.

Thanks for your feedback. It's good to be prepared. Hope your next infusion is better. This is all so hard!

Post weekly Taxol 2 day three.  Thursday I felt drugged most of the day from the Benadryl, Friday I felt great, but didn't sleep well.  Saturday was okay, I got some housework done, and we took the nine year old out to celebrate straight A's for the nine weeks.  Made it to church this morning.  I don't feel bad per say, just achey.  My shoulders and hips hurt.  What is everyone taking for these aches and pains?  Advil didn't cut it yesterday, but not sure if I need something stronger either.

Wishing everyone a side effect free, and happy day.

    2 down, 10 to go!

I was wondering what taxol is? Why do some women get this as their treatment plan?

I have a meeting on Tuesday with mo and I am terrified.
