I was scheduled to have Taxol 12 today, but it was cancelled. I have a huge infected cyst between my breasts. We were watching it, and by the time I decided to go to urgent care before going to the clinic, it had burst. I am supposed to go show it to medical personnel every three days for the next week, and maybe get my last taxol next Friday. Bactrin and hot compresses. Last night I was regularly awakened by a hot needle going into that spot. Sadistic.

Those same fingers are still bothering me again today. The tips feel sore constantly. I also had another almost fainting spell today. I start feeling especially tired & short of breath, then my sight goes all blurry. I have to put my head down as I sit. I get better after a rest, but I don’t like this. All of a sudden I’m feeling very tired after a minimum of activity. I finished Taxol #9 Tuesday, so wonder how it will go after the next three.

I did have some happiness yesterday. I noticed one of my diamond earrings was missing from my ear. Oh no I had no idea where it could possibly be. I’ve always worn these for about 20 years, just knew it was gone for good. I took another look in the bathroom & spotted the earring in the carpet pile. Maybe this is a good omen.

I hope all had a decent day today!

Doris I’m so glad you found your earring! Would you please see if my engagement ring is there too? I took it off one swelly day during Taxol and haven’t seen it since. At least I found my wedding ring!

As an update from nearly six weeks out: most Taxol side effects are diminishing. My nails are still odd but the new growth looks normal. I’m still a bit prone to swollen ankles. And I have more energy, even though I’m just finishing my second week of rads

    hello everyone,

Have already done DD AC, and now started Taxol. Had 3 rounds of Taxol. For 1st Taxol treatment, slept for nearly 2 days in a row and experienced all types of side effects, flu like symptoms, such as stomach cramps, headaches, muscle aches, bone pain and slight foot neuropathy.

However, round 2 and 3 have been slightly easier to take. Just wondering if each round thereafter will pretty much be the same as 2 and 3 or will the Taxol eventually accumulate and SE‘s become increasingly heavier. And once done with Taxol, how many weeks does it take to start feeling nearly back to normal again?

    Thanks in advance

hi Angie Taxol you'll be glad when it's done... I was! The SEs accumulated with me but there was sort of a pattern as to how they went each week except for the tiredness... it just keeps on creeping on along with the bone pain for me. I'm 2 weeks and 3 days past last Taxol and my head is clear, my energy is returning, bone pain is mostly gone and my neuropathy in my mouth and lips is 85% better hands and feet a little less each day. Occasionally I still need to nap like today (but Herceptin induced runs has caused that I believe) or if I overdo it. Sleep comes easier now too which I know was the bone and muscle pain thing from the taxol...they liked to keep me up when I wanted to go to bed. But these are what I experienced.

Hi Angie. I sleep the two days post Taxol, but have so far rebounded by Monday. I think the SEs do accumulate over time.

    Thanks Nanette and kber.

I’m guessing that SE’s will slowly gain momentum with each Taxol round. With only 3 rounds so far, feels a little deceptive because SE’s are manageable at the moment. But I know better. They’ll creep upwhen least expected.

Nanette your orchids are so beautiful. I would so love to live in Florida, but husband absolutely refuses to move there. Usually we are there for 1/2 of February & all of March.I'm really missing Florida at the moment.

The Taxol SE seems to be accumulating. I was ok for the first half, but now it’s thighs hurting at night & im so tired. I can hardly get up the stairs before my knees start to give out. This is terrible for me as I’m a big walker. We are always walking somewhere with the dog or touring. Glad to hear it doesn’t take too long for things to start getting back to normal

For more debilitating side effects (neuropathy that causes stumbling, painful burning in feet and hands), my onco was ok w a reduction in my dose by 25% and that made a HUGE difference my last 3 txs. I've developed hand foot syndrome, which has eased a little. I found the reduction also made a difference in my joint and muscle pain ( which for me Tylenol and Advil and Aleve haven't done anything too relieve), energy level and rebound time. I have my infusions on Friday mornings and typically by Monday evening I feel more like myself (after sleeping / dozing remains of Fri and all Sat and most of Sunday away), now it's been more like Saturday evening I bounce back since the reduction. The night sweats and hot flashes have increased, but I think that's been a cumulative event for all the chemo. I haven't had much pain in my nails, but they are certainly growing funky. The edges are paddling out and up and I've got bends downward for all fingers in the middle of the nail. I've been keeping both fingers and toes trimmed pretty short.

If you are having some side effects that are debilitating, you may want to consider asking for a reduction in the dosage. Mine was also ok with another 25% if I hadn't seen improvement. Just a thought! MB1

Edited to add - the bloody noses have also decreased with the reduction in dose.

My nails are black and the bottom of my feet has some black blotches. Hope it disappears on its own. No neuropathy or body pain, Im thankful. Just night sweats, tiredness and excessive dry mouth. I just did number 7 Taxol friday. Counting down the weeks. The low blood cell counts have me concerned. Had to get 3 days back to back shots or they would have to hault the chemo. I dont want that, I want to get over with. I start a new job next week and I fear if it gets low again Im screwed with all these doctor appts for shots. They already know i have weekly doctor appts, they just dont know what for. I dont want them to know yet of cancer to think im incapable of performing but will see how things goes. Didnt know some employers list cancer as a disability on applications.

Im just pleading with my eyebrows and lashes to hold on during this gig lol. Dont want to be so obvious. I do Web for a living so hoping to get some work from home days once Ive proven myself.

I had the same problem with tiredness. I also (POMMOM) have had 9 doses of taxol. The tiredness was overwhelming for me. I told my OMCO and they reduced the taxol last week. This week has been great. Only really tired one day. My fingernails and toenails seem to be as hard as rocks!! Not much neuropathy yet. My big toe is becoming white. Does that mean it's dying and will soon come off?

No, your toe is not going to drop off. I was told that if you are going to lose a toenail, it will look like any loss of a toenail from any trauma; it turns black.

I had one black and one white toenail (and white parts on both thumbnails). For the white parts it’s like the nail has pulled away from the nail bed.

I’m getting a lot of pains in my arms & legs, seem to be the worst in the evening. Especially when I go to bed. Some of my fingers have been tingling all week, it’s starting to be uncomfortable. Yesterday two of our sons & the grandchildren came over. They stayed a little longer than I would have liked! I was so exhausted when they left.

I get Taxol #10 on Tuesday, but since I’m getting ready for another the bloody nose is getting better just in time to start up again still nothing but bad taste in my mouth. Just let me get through the next three Taxol.

Tomorrow is going to be me on the sofa hunting for some good movie to watch

Just finished 6 of 12 Taxol / Carbo treatments and my blood counts took a nose dive.  My oncologist and I agreed to take a week off to try to recuperate, but I'm dizzy and tired!!  I made it to work, but will likely leave early and take a nap.

Hopefully the week off will allow my body to heal at bit, and I'll be able to power through the second half.

kber--I've posted this often but protein protein protein. I really pushed it through Taxol--ate red meat 5-6 times a week, plus had a protein shake every day, plus had an egg every day. My blood counts stayed really good throughout. (I've also found out that eating red meat for two nights before Herceptin helps me with those. I had cut way back on my protein intake, but I really think that stuff is good for you!)

Im going for #10 tomorrow. The fatigue has really hit me hard since last week's treatment. I just cannot get over the sleepiness and it's so hard to get up in the morning...Normally I am ready to go when my alarm goes off!

Started having a weird sharp pain in my fingertip (yes, just one finger), but other than that, no major pains or neuropathy. I'm fighting a bit of a cold, so I am wondering how that will affect my blood counts tomorrow...fingers crossed we don't have to push it back! I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I'm almost done!!!!!!

I have Taxol #8 this week. Anyones hair started growing back a little? Im seeing fine white hairs. Will that mean it will stay that color? My natural hair is dark brown.

hi Hope. I’ve read that hair often comes in white and fine, but returns to its original color and texture over time.

There’s also something called chemo curl where, after the first couple of months, it becomes curlier than before.

I’ve also just finished #6, and no sign of regrows yet, but I’m looking forward to it!

I did Taxol #10 today. I will probably up all night due to the steroid to keep nausea at bay. Each day 2020 I, too get the aches & pains in my bones & muscles. It’s getting worse after each infusion

The ends of my thumbs & index fingers have been messing with me all week. Nurse was going to reduce my dose if it was too bad. I didn’t want that to happen, so I said it want that bad which it wasn’t. The tingling was settling down this evening.

My hair started to grow back, but fell out again after Taxol. It was very thin to start with, I used romaine to keep what little I had.

My blood & other numbers were up & down, up where it counted. I did lose 2 more pounds as my eating is not so good. If I can keep this off I’ll be happy. Don’t want to lose anymore weight.

Wishing better days ahead for everyone. Keep fighting as long as possible.

    Love

Pommom let her reduce you 25% over the last 2. Still gives all the benefits but reduces the neuropathy a little. I'm glad I had my last 2 reduced 25% each as the neuropathy is getting better 3 weeks out from taxol.

Kber what your feeling is normal. I had to nap after treatment because I was so worn out.

Hope, my hair is really fuzzy and for the most part about 1/2 inch long now 3 weeks out and i look like uncle fester lol. I can't wait for some color to return i was mostly gray in front and salt & pepper on the sides and back. Brown would be nice!! I haven't had brown in about 12 years

I had treatment 6 last Friday. Getting to the halfway point feels really good. My bloodwork is still ok, not perfect. The aches, pain, and fatigue get worse each week. I try to walk 2-3 miles 3 to 4 times each week.

Got some disappointing news this week. I will be ready for my exchange surgery in early May but my sturgeon doesn’t have an opening until late July. I’m annoyed they didn’t need schedule me sooner.

Congrats to all of you passing the half-way mark/nearing the finish line. Just re: hair--I did start back with light-colored, fine, soft hair followed by something more like my old hair, although I definitely have the chemo curl going so am keeping my hair short. The tight curl is driving me crazy. I'm hoping that maybe by a year out it'll start to return to something like its old texture.
