How quickly did you lose your hair? I am starting Taxol weekly for 12 weeks. Along with Herceptin every 3rd week. Was interested in doing the Cold Capping, but my hospital will not allow it.

JoAnn must of us started shedding our hair, around week 3. I made the choice to have it buzzed off as i couldn't bear feeling like pigpen with the hair constantly falling out either in globs or sometime a bizzard.

Good to see your post, Nanette. Hope to see more tomorrow.

i have a weird numbness in my upper back between my shoulder blades. Also some tingling in my fingertips. Not too bad and not painful.
As far as hair, I did A/c first and started shedding after my second treatment. I also shaved my head so I wouldn’t go around dropping hair. Preferred to be in as much control as I could manage.

Nannette7fl and kber, like you ladies I chose to have control and buzzed my head after my second AC treatment as that way I could say i took my hair and chemo just delayed it coming back 😜. It had started falling out pretty good by then anyway.
I hope everyone is doing good!!

there you go Penelope take charge!! It is so very empowering when WE can do something for/to ourselves to prevent cancer from taking it away!!

Congratulations Kber on finishing your chemo! I hope you get a complete PCR!

I had my bilateral mastectomy Tuesday, went home on Wednesday afternoon. I feel pretty good, not much pain so far. I have three drains & two lines entering my chest from a ball pain reliever hanging on my side. Surgeon told me I can take showers already,
They are pretty sure they got all the cancer, but will have to wait on pathology to know for sure. They didn’t have to take any of the chest muscles thank goodness.
Good luck & prayers to all of you!
Doris

I'm so glad for you Doris! Everything will be ok. Take care of you! Kisses

Congrats to those who are finished! Giving hope that this is possible.
I'm getting ready for No. 3 today, and it will be the first with no medications. I am feeling okay, except for the muscle aches. I haven't been able to sleep very well, and I'm not looking forward to feeling gloomy on days 3 and 4. I'm trying to focus on the fact that I am 1/4th the way there, halfway there if I count AC. I just want to be done already. I want my hair back! blah.

I had my last taxol on Tuesday. I've slept most of today. My eyes are giving me a lot of trouble. Has anyone else has felt like their eyes are twitching right out of the sockets?

Congratulations ladies who have recently completed their chemo!! Thoughts and support to those still kicking chemos butt!!!
I can now officially say I beat chemo, I finished chemo and tooted my horn, 😜, at 1220 today!! Yay, feels awesome too be done with this stage!! No anti- hormone pills for at least a month, till after 2nd surgery, yay!!!
Everyone handles the side effects differently, I was so happy when the AC was complete as my side effects with that were terrible!! With the Taxol I feel really achy and tired on days 4-6 but thankfully no nausea!! My finger and toe nails look like crap from the Taxol and my cheeks are always rosy courtesy of a rash lol. Hair well...I have some white peach fuzz that in the light makes my head look like it's glowing 🤭🤭😁.
Thoughts and love to everyone!!!😊💗

Taxol #3 done today. Did Ok. My blood work showed a dropping WBC count so I have to go back tomorrow for neupogen shot. I hope I don't have trouble with that ongoing. Should have a relatively light weekend coming up so hopefully can rest and recoup. Feeling decent, just tired. Congrats to those finishing up!! Great job!

had my first taxol yesterday. I used ice packs on my hand and feet which gave the nurses a giggle, but I’ll try anything that works. I felt much better today then after AC, but could not sleep a wink last night. Really don’t need insomnia! 11 more weeks! Seems like forever to get to surgery

the 12 weeks went by pretty fast for me. I’m still having eye problems, can’t see very well with my glasses. I’m trying to keep my fingernails from falling off & the brownish color seem to be disappearing. My nails have been pretty painful.
The worst for me is the neuropathy in my feet, it seems like it’s finally slowly getting better. My food is staring to taste normal, but I have an abundance of salt in my mouth. No need to salt any of my food yet! One thing I don’t I’ll ever eat again is baked goods. Donuts, rolls, bread, biscuits, things like that just taste horrible. I had a piece of banana bread in the hospital yesterday. It was really bad tasting so I had my husband taste it, he said it tasted great. Baked goods are still a problem

JoAnnsLife - I cut my hair short after Taxol #2 thinking it would be all gone soon after based on the rate I was shedding. I just completed Taxol #6, and while my hair is much thinner, I still have mostly full coverage. My scalp is very uncomfortable (tingling, zingy) so I'm contemplating shaving it, but I'm not quite there yet.

That salty taste is awful and I agree on baked goods. I look like an old man - hair around the sides and back and barely anything on top.

I tried mBerry/Miracle Fruit tablets from Amazon when I was on AC. It didn’t cure the chemo mouth, but I went from not eating for 5 days to able to tolerate food again

I had my 2nd Taxol infusion today. I iced my hands hoping to fend off neuropathy. I have to say I feel great. I feel like I did before I started chemo. I know these drugs are cumulative but my first round of AC was the toughest for me and got better over time. I didn't experience mouth sores or nail issues. I do have a nose that constantly runs with no hair to slow it down and I was extremely fatigued on AC with a feeling of just being in a fog. So far Taxol has been good.
I did mimic fasting my last 2 rounds of AC and that may have helped. I'm taking B6 and B12 vitamins. I figure they can't hurt.
I know everyone is different and I still may experience side effects on Taxol but it's nice to feel like myself again even if it's short lived

Poppy_Spruce I had to use plastic utensils to easy when I was on taxol, lessened the metal mouth

I’ve heard that plastic utensils help. I either lucked out on Taxol or it wasn’t as bad compared to AC, but three weeks PFC, my taste is pretty much back to normal.
The eyebrows though...seriously! It just keeps getting worse!! Guess I’m gonna have to learn how to draw them in.On any given day, I can wake up with chin hairs that sprout overnight like the Sea Hag, but when I WANT my eyebrows to grow...nothing

Poppy-
I totally know what you mean! I was so happy that I had my eyebrows and lashes after my hair was gone then within the last month im losing them like wtf!!! I have really pale skin and hair so without my lashes I look so washed out... good thing for my rash from Taxol!!
I used plastic utensils as metal made my food taste so much worse!!

my mom begins taxol Monday and we started on the vitamins to prevent neuropathy. What is the most common SE on taxol for all of you guys? My mom lost her hair from the AC but her eyebrows and eyelashes are still there. Should she’s expect those to fall off with taxol? What about other SEs
Thanks in advance. You can private message me too

I finished taxol last monday. My hair begun to grow after my last AC but my eyelashes and eyebrows are vanishing, now are a few of they still here but I think I'll drop it all. I hated taxol so I don't wana talk about SE because your mom maybe can do it better. I wish it for her. Hugs!

Yeaay Yndorian and Yber, so pleased for you......I have been back in hospital due to side effects from Taxol and am thinking of stopping it now........my creatinine level is getting progressively worse and i feel terrible plus my legs are so swollen i cannot feel the floor even after IV diuretics all day yesterday......

ucfknight - my list of SE's would be totally different from your mom's. Everyone is different. Listen to what the MO tells you and your mom about side effects and hope for the best.

You guys make me feel a bit guilty. I've done 7 taxols and aside from no appetite and fatigue I don't have any physical side effects. Maybe that will encourage new people. The fatigue is pretty awful though as much psychologically as anything else.
And there's my depression, slowly improving but still not really better. I feel like if only my attitude could change about this treatment, I could bear it so much more easily. If I weren't being haunted by dark thoughts, if I had some confidence I could see my way through my daughter's bedtime. it's 32 days until the last treatment, barely more than a month right? I only have to endure 5-6 more weeks.
All anyone can say is "one day at a time" and "this too shall pass" and I say it to myself over and over but it doesn't help that much. That's why I come to this forum and continually whine out my self-pity. Lucky you!

I don't think anyone on this site is lucky. We are all dealing with the reality of this horrible disease that is trying to consume us. Taxol is hard for some - it has been for me. A/C was worse but taxol was no walk in the park. This week I have sat in a chair and slept. The blues are a contant companion. I've missed events such as my niece's college graduation today. We all have some degree of SE's and yes, some folks have it easier than others. I guess they are lucky for that. I don't feel lucky or grateful "for what cancer has taught me." I am grateful to the wonderful people on this site who try to uplift each other and offer words of comfort and advice. This site has let me know that I am not alone in this. It has been a true blessing.
erin -As a counselor, I tell you to vent away!! We hear you, We'll try to help.

JoAnnsLife,
I had my 2nd Taxol/Herceptin infusion on Monday (April 29). I am just starting to loose my body hair (day 12). My head is itchy in spots but my hair there hasn't started to shed yet. I suspect it will soon though.
My nails are still ok but it's early in the process.
