@ywheels,
Thanks for that. I'm glad to hear your Taxol treatments are going better than the AC. Two more for me and I'm on to Taxol for 4 rounds. It gives me hope hearing your experience.0 -
Mareluna: congrats on being back to work! It must feel good!
Rosina: AC is hard. I won't sugar coat it, but you will get through....we all did...Taxol will be better. It has it's own SE's but I hope you find it to be better than AC. Keep us posted!

My neutrophils were 900 today. I came a hair of not getting Taxol #9. My onc came over to the chemo lounge to check me out. Since I feel well with no complaints, I got my treatment. This was the first week that I didn't ask my church to pray about my blood counts. I won't make that mistake again.
Blessings

Paula: prayers are an amazing thing. I ask for them all the time about my blood counts. Good luck!!!

ywheels and soteria - without the prayers of my church family, I am certain I would not have coped as well as I did with all of my treatments.

Hi Maruluna- Thaks for the advise, I will start the nexium, spoke to my oncologist yesterday after number 10 (2 TO GO Yippeee) and she cut the steroids a bit , goody as my face is now rather round, said I should start walking to get my metabalism up to help the digestive system and stay away from wheat and flour and processed foods and broccoli, cabbage and cauoiflower for a while due to gas.
So feeling so much better today I see a lot of ladies doing well which is so so great and yes prayers and quiet time play a HUGE difference. Glad you are starting work again it is so nice to start becoming "normal again" but I think once we are all through this we will never be the same but stronger and better!!!
My only words are that no matter the side effects we get through it, yes there will be bad days but they end and people and groups help so so very much
You are all great for sharing and caring

Absolutely Lee100... I found it somewhere on some breast cancer site...
I have had a rough few days. Very busy at work and I am tired. I have noticed I cant get it into the high gear that I need sometimes. So, fatigue is an issue. Also, I have strange pain in my knees. It's something I've never felt. I am assuming its from working hard. Also, my nose hairs have all shed. So, I find myself blowing my nose more and maybe the sinuses are getting a bit raw? I am trying to remember that chemo kicks the crap out of you and I must slow down. It is frustrating because, I feel much better now than when I was getting AC. Kinda like the mind is willing and the body says NOPE...

Sandy – Hope the rest is helping. It is so easy to expect too much of ourselves. Sounds like you have a great doctor, too.
Rosina – Yeah! You are halfway through. I had the same treatment and schedule as you. That was back in January, and I can tell you that pretty much everything you said is something I could have said back then—including feeling somewhat normal on Day 8! I used Tylenol for the headaches. My best advice to anyone on A/C is to drink lots and lots of fluids, don’t skip the laxatives, and get lots of rest. Taxol is a totally different experience, but for many, including myself, it was a vast improvement over A/C.
Colt 45 – Congratulations to you and your wife!

Zorina,
Yes, I have a great doctor. I trust her which is half the battle. I have been trying to rest more which seems to help a lot. I left work yesterday early cause I didn't feel so good but it is my slow time and I just told myself sometimes you just got to take care of yourself. My work will be there Monday. Hope all of you have a great weekend!
Take care,
Sandy0 -
Hi Skigirl, I can hear where you come from espeecially on Taxol we feel the end is near and we want to so badly go back to being normal that we overdo it so much especialy on our good days and we pay for it later by being super tired
Sometimes for no reason my knees also ache but it passes. I just have to keep reminding myself it will be over soon enough and then we can truely get back to being norml at our usual pace but never forgeting to stop now and again and enjoy life.
Take care

Zorina,
Thanks for the encouragement. I really need to be better with the fluids, so hard for me for some reason. But I'm gonna do better next time around.0 -
Skigirl: where are you at on your Taxol? I hope you feel better soon.
Sandy: I'm glad you left work and got some rest. I really feel that is a big part of helping us heal and feel better...rest, rest, rest and fluids!

YWheels,
Yes, the rest did help. Came home and slept for a few hours and felt much better. The MO put me on predinsone for three days after chemo so I puffed up like a blowfish in my face for a few days. I also had some swelling in my calves and my pulse rate was higher than normal so not sure if the prednisone is worth it. I think she put me on it to help either with the pain or the bowels issue. Not sure which one. My swelling and pulse seem to have gone back to normal now. There seems to be a trade off for everything. Hope you had a good weekend.
Take care everyone,
Sandy0 -
Sandy: Glad you feel somewhat better. Hope the swelling goes away...
Skigirl...Good luck today with your counts.

I am finding I have a bit of joint pain and my fingers feel funny today. I've lost both my big toe nails too. I thought the pain stuff was from working a long weekend. Still here after a few days rest. UGH. Time for the glutamine... Taxol #5 tomorrow. Keep going ladies, keep going.

Ywheels,
Thanks, it was short lived. The steroid must have worn off. Feel like a truck hit me today. Pain, pain, pain. Nurse is going to see if MO wants to see me on Wednesday. Nurse said I am complicated with all my extra stuff going on. Guess we will see on Wednesday. You do treatment this wednesday too, right? I wish you well with low se's.
Skigirl,
Sorry about your nails. I am waiting for mine to go to. Sorry about your pain too. This sucks but I guess we have to keep moving forward. Hope you feel better soon.
Hope everyone else is managing OK.
Take care,
Sandy0 -
Rosina - Adria really sucks up fluids. I had a very hard time after the first treatment because I was extremely dehydrated. From that point forward, I just both my my neulasta shot and a bag of fluids the day after chemo. Consider asking for the fluids if you think you may need it.

Zorina - thanks for the heads up, I think ill ask about it when I head for #3 AC treatment tomorrow.

Lee10.... Welcome to the group... Sorry it's for such a sucky reason. Ou should consider the Facebook page.... Deals with anything u want, always support there.
About taxol ten and neuropathy... Not sure of your protocol re different country...
But I agree with whomever wrote to always tell your oncologist ANY issues u have... Sometimes they answer u directly, while sometimes the Onco nurses have the answers because they are more in touch with what works, etc.
Are u taking vitamin b6 and b12.m next would be glutamine, powdered formula.
Colt 45 always told of his wife soaking hands in bags of frozen peas, yes, as in the vegetable.
About belly... Sennacot S is one of best things for that. Having constipation issues? Senna helps to veg oil....
Mayb other issues... Have it checked out. My MO (oncologist ) office wants patients to call and ask if NY Isdues, eve I past hours.
Last, I will tell. That even HROUGH I am only on I've of twelve today, they are monitoring my level of neuropathy so thy can decide by next time if they ill reduce the taxol amount to help prevent perm neuropathy. Seems fairly standard here. Ope it is there.
There are other issues that they reduce amount, but it don't like u don't get treatments... YOu just get less. I have lo heard of some women who skip last one or two treatments.
Talk with our MO and come bak and tell us wat they say. Hang in THERe....
Ou are almost there girl!!!
You can do this!
Peace,
Colleen0 -
Getting taxol #5 today. My counts were the same and my platelets were down a bit like the last few weeks. No worries they said. LOL oh, ok. And I keep going.

Skigirl,
Glad to hear your counts are good enough to continue today. Hope infusion goes well and you have low se's. Have a good day!
Take care,
Sandy0 -
Ladies, thanks so much for your support of my wife.
You are all in our hearts and prayers.
You WILL DO THIS!
Yes, like Colleen said (EmilysMom)-----my wife stuck bags of frozen peas on her fingers and toes during Taxol infusions and she still has her nails and no neuropathy.
She also used tea tree oil and white vinegar on her nails.
Bless you all.0 -
Hello there!
Just wondered if I could join this group as previously I hadn't found many people on the same regime as myself.
I am getting my 5th of 12 weekly Paclitaxel tomorrow.
I had four cycles of AC, and would have come through it fairly easily except that I developed increasingly severe clotting problems and after cycle 3 was diagnosed with a large dvt right leg, and subsequently with multiple pulmonary emboli bilaterally!
So now I'm on daily Lovenox injections for the duration! Yet!
Anyhoo, enough about me for now. Nice to meet you, ladies0 -
Just trying to attach signature!
There ya go!0 -
Morwenna~~WOW!!! Your diagnosis is so close to mine. I also had 4 AC. Mine were every three weeks. I get weekly Taxol on Friday, and this week will be #10.
The week after my final AC I also developed a blood clot in my left thigh. All my pain was in the foot. I take Lovenox 2X daily. My onc said, at least until I'm done with chemo. Typically one only takes it for 5 days.
By the way, of course you are welcome. I'm glad you found us.
Blessings

Has anyone been having swelling in the feet and ankles. I find that I have that at least a couple days a week, so I'm thinking its Taxol. I didn't have it with AC.
Blessings

Hey, I just finished week 7 and so far so good. Just had a CT scan and the results show stable with nothing new. I am so so thankful. Since December I have been on Exempra (couldn't tolerate it), then Gemzar and Navelbine, wasn't successful, there was growth with only 3 1/2 treatments. Now on Taxol once a week and it seems to be working so far. The side effects are very tolerable. Still haven't lost my hair but if that's the worst that happens, let it all fall out. My worst days are the day of, and then on the third day. I'll take it though. I really have to choose how to spend my energy. I am so happy right now that I get to stay on this regimen for awhile.

Lee100 and Morwenna - Welcome!
skigirl - I hope that your #5 was uneventful today! I get pain in my back and hips, but Tylenol helps. Yesterday we ram some errands and i turned the seat heater on high - felt great! I've also had that weird feeling in my hands occasionally. You and Morwenna and I are on about the same schedule in ourTaxol tx. I have #6 on Thursday and I'm hoping that the Benadryl makes me sleepy like it did last week - although I didn't go to sleep, just had a hard time carrying on a conversation. Only one, sometimes two other BC patients get tx at the same time as I do. Everyone else has hair - and probably their nose hairs as well!
Spotty memory - someone mentioned peeling, dry hands on AC? I had that as well - constantly put lotion on my hands and feet, which started looking particularly scary. Would it be ok to rub a pumice stone gently on my heels or should I wait? Hands and feet are better with Taxol ...
Best wishes to all for an uneventful week with manageablr SEs ..
Hugs, Martha
