septmom~#11 done! I hope all went well with you. I can't believe we have 1 more to go. Debic..it goes pretty quick since it is weekly, at least that is what I experienced. It seems like I was just saying I was half way through it and now one more...I pray it goes just as fast for you.
I did have some good news today...my mri from tuesday showed a remarkable reduction in my tumor...I don't know why, but I was very nervous it didn't shrink enough. I think it was because my side effects were so minimal. I would ask my MO about that and he would assure me that it was working. I am hopeful my surgery goes as well.

Mersee -Yaay we got #11 done today. We have one more to go. My neutrophils were only 1.9 on Wednesday afternoons bloodwork. But my MO said I didn't need neupogen this week. But I have a feeling they will drop next week. So I go for bloodwork Monday morning. The nurse promised me that they would monitor me closely next week and give me the neupogen shots if needed so I stay on track and finish next week. Makes me nervous though. I have been pushed back twice and now will finish 2 weeks later than I was originally supposed to.
That is great news on your MRI! How are you feeling today? I took a short nap in the afternoon and feel fine now.
Have a good weekend! Hugs'

I am so glad you were able to get #11. Think positive about your neutrophils. I feel good after my treatments..maybe the decadron? I don't nap during the day since I don't really sleep great during the night...sweats I am worried that I will sleep worse during the night if I nap. I try and ask for a copy of my bloodwork each week and I have a few weeks of results, but not all, either I forget to get it and the nurse gets busy. I don't see a neutrophils count on my sheet. I ask the nurse each week how my counts are, and I have no explanation of what I am doing or not doing, but my counts have been normal for a person not on chemo. All I can say is that I have trued to live a healthy lifestyle, I never smoked a day in my life, I don't really drink because I don't like the taste unless its a real sweet mixed drink and after one, I have had enough...and that is once during the summer. Never did drugs...as my brother always called me... goody two shoes...but I got cancer, and I am going to do whatever it takes to be normal again. I will be thinking good thoughts for you over the weekend and come Monday, your counts will great : )

Mersee- me and you have a lot in common. I am known as the goody two shoes in my family. I have never tried a cigarette. I don't drink. I have always maintained a very healthy diet. I always try to eat as much organic as I can. I don't eat a lot of meat. I am mostly vegetarian. I have never been over weight. I am 44 years old and weigh as around as much as I did since I was 19 years old. (I am 5'3" and weigh 110 lbs - weigh 104 now). I was quite active and worked out regularly. Yet I got cancer. I am going to do whatever it takes to make sure I follow healthy habits and stay healthy. I have cut down on dairy. I don't eat processed foods or sugar. I have cut down gluten too. My Oncologist and nursing staff keep telling me that I am among their top 2% of their patients that have been handling chemo do well. Hard to believe as I did felt like crap for a few weeks. Hope your feeling good today. I am full of energy today. I usually am on Saturdays. I cooked a big lunch and got up on house work.
I am thinking of going shopping today and getting small token gifts for the nurses at the infusion center. I am thinking of getting stuff from bath and body works. Hope I am not getting ahead of myself and do get my last taxol this Friday as planned. I am so looking forward to this being over.
Have a good weekend.

Lettinggo,
Ayer did not stop the nosebleeds but at least helped with the dryness. I found that the nosebleeds stopped one week after final taxol treatment.
I am 17 months post chemo. I still tire very easily.

Septmom we do have a lot in common, I would rather be a goody two shoes : ) Maybe it was the 12 yrs of catholic schooI..lol I buy organic fruits and veggies when it looks good. I try hard not to use any processed foods when cooking but convenience sometimes wins. I am having a good weekend too.. the only side effect is the puffy red cheeks on Saturday morning, but it went away later in the day. I am oddly getting use to not sleeping so well at night.
I was wondering if I should bring something for the nursing staff too on Friday. I have seen food items being brought in on occasion as I was waiting, but a friend of mine who is a nurse said that food could be hard since it may require refrigeration. Bath and Body Works seems like a good idea.
One interesting thing my oncologist said to me in the very beginning. He asked me how my pregnancies were..did I get morning sickness, etc. I actually had 3 really good pregnancies, no complications no sickness. The only thing is the weight gain bothered me being so petite. He then said that he has seen a significant correlation between how you tolerate chemo and how well your pregnancies went. I am not sure how that is connected, but kind of interesting.
Good luck this week and Friday..I can't wait for it to be over too!!

Last Taxol this coming Wednesday. Excited but also nervous to start Rads. We ordered special cupcakes from the bakery to take for the staff and fellow chemo clients. I made it through five months of chemo without gaining weight only to put on five pounds in the last two weeks. Hoping it is the steroids......
0 -
Northwinds - Yaay you are finishing this week too! I do think it's the steroids that is causing the weight gain. I have noticed a lot of fluid retention the last 2-3 weeks. I often see a fluctuation of 3 - 4 lbs in one week. I am lighter the day I am to get my next taxol compared to the few days right after getting taxol. My face is a lot puffier these last few weeks. I am sure eventually it will go away and our weight will stabilize.
Mersee, I ended up going to bath and body works yesterday. They are having a good sale. I know about 6 of infusion nurses/staff quite well. Then there is my oncologist's nurse and 3 admin staff. I ended up getting 12 large body cremes. They gave me plastic gift bags, ribbons, and gift tags. I assembled it and it looks nice. I also got a great deal. Each one was originally $15 and I got them for $5 each. They were having a one day promotion. I have seen people bringing in trays of baklava and boxes of chocolates. But then I see the boxes just sitting on the counter for days. I figured body lotions was the way to. But Northwinds idea of cupcakes is good too. Everyone loves cupcakes.
I go to get my blood drawn tomorrow. I am hoping my WBC is okay or if not they give me the neupogen shot. I plan on going right when they open early morning. I will wait there until they get the results in case they need to give me the shot. Then I plan on going to work. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies.

Septmom, and northwind,
Congratulations on the last week of chemo I know you can't wait.
I just got back from Busch Gardens. My nephew and great nephew are in town from Alaska. I rode my first rollercoaster since 2011 It was Auto Baun and I had a blast. Talk about an adrenaline rush. LOL
I came home to rest a bit. I do get tired. Then meeting family at Cracker barrel that I have not seen in almost 2 years. I am happy.

Mareluna, it's so nice to hear that you rode a roller coaster after so long and enjoying time with family and are feeling happy! It's gives us who are still getting through treatment a feeling of hope and encouragement 😊.
Have fun with your family !
Thanks again!

Yes today was a good day. I rode a real rollercoaster instead of the nightmare one that we are, or have been on. I lost my hubby to lung cancer 6 years ago tomorrow. I spent the weekend remembering him. It's been a rough 7 years.

septmom-I hope all went well today with your bloodwork...I've been thinking of you.
I love bath and bodyworks..I am waiting to try their new hand soaps, I heard they have changed their formula for the better. I purchased a bunch a couple of months ago at an excellent price, and I am waiting to use them up a bit.
Today I have the most blochy red puffy face that I have ever had on taxol...I am so ready for the last one!
Enjoy your day : )

Mersee, my bloodwork was fine. My neutrophils/WBC went up. So far so good. Will get bloodwork again on Wednesday.
I too have the most puffy swollen face red cheeks today. My ankles seemed a bit swollen today too. I too can't wait for the last one to be over. Wonder how long it will take for the face swelling to go away. I also feel more bloated than usual. Guess it will take a while to start feeling a bit normal again.
Now I find myself thinking and getting nervous about my upcoming masectomy surgery which is scheduled for May 9th.
But I am glad that taxol is almost over.
I did buy some of bath and body works new hand soap. It's nice. But some of the bath and body works lotions/creams have paraben in them. I was disappointed to see that. I am trying to avoid products with Parabens and phthalates.

septmom--I'm so glad all was good. It is something how use to bloodwork we become. I remember when I had my first son at age 24. I never had routine bloodwork done prior to being pregnant and I remember how anxious I was everytime they took blood. Now I almost don't feel the needle anymore. My nurse had some trouble finding a good vein last friday. I have tiny veins and I guess after so many treatments, they are tired.
I wonder how long the red puffy face will take to go away? I wonder if it is the decadron or taxol or both. I thought my dose of decadron was pretty low, but maybe not. I too stay away from parabens and other chemicals as much as I can. All my makeup is paraben free.
My surgeon asked for a ultrasound, so I am scheduled for Wednesday. They did tell me my tumor has significantly reduced, but she wants to see surrounding areas before we discuss surgery options.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

Howdy all - starting chemo on the 18th of this month and have joined the April thread - but you all are full of good info so I thought I would drop in and ask a few questions.
As you can see from my sig - I will be doing Adriamycin and cytoxan DD - so 4 doses - then 12 Taxol's then on to Herceptin. First question - did you all take emend with every treatment - meaning the 4 or 6 AC and the 12 Taxol's? My copay for EMEND is $75 per treatment - so I am trying to figure out how I am going to afford 16 of those if that is the case?

hi linda505,
I took emend while on AC only. It was not needed for the 12 Taxol.
0 -
Me too..Emend with AC only. It worked great for me..as I had no nausea
Good Luck

Same here. Emend with AC. No nausea, just fatigue.

Thanks Septmom and Mareluna.
I hope I can sleep tonight. Usually it is the night of and after chemo I don't sleep. But tonight I am excited due to last chemo and apprehensive over meeting Radiation Doctor tomorrow after chemo. Wil be thinking of you Friday Septmom! We are getting closer finishing every day..........

I am supposed to get my last taxol this Friday. My bloodwork today showedlow WBC. So I had to get a neupogen shot today. I go for another shot tomorrow. They will do a blood test first on Friday. If my WBC look good then I will get my last taxol. When I had my bloodwork done on Monday it looked good. Now I am worried that I might not get my last taxol this Friday. The nurses think that two shots of Neupogen will do the trick. But I hate having to go there on Friday not knowing if I am going to get my last taxol or not. I will be so heart broken if I don't end up getting it this Friday as I have been finally feeling a bit happy seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I was so disappointed this morning when I went for my bloodwork that I burst into tears. I have kept myself busy at work to keep my distracted. I so hope I get my last taxol this Friday.0 -
Thanks all for all the answers on the emend - still trying to sort the prescription out with my insurance company but at least I know that is something that I only need to worry about for 2 months!! thanks

Oh septmom I am praying for you! We got to end this together! Actually the most important is that you are doing well on the taxol, one more week stinks, but you can handle it..look what you have accomplished with this horrible disease..you are so strong to have done so well. How have you been feeling? I have the cold that has gone through my house, scratchy throat...I hope it doesn't effect Friday but we shall see.
0 -
Mersee- thanks for praying for me. I feel fine. I had a hectic but productive day at work. I don't feel tired. My neutrophils were 2.8 on Monday but dropped to 1.2 today. The nurses said it has to be 1.5 for me to get taxol. So I am hoping 2 neupogen shots do the trick. I asked if they would do bloodwork to see if after one shot if it goes up but they said that often after one shot it might not go up so it's best to check on Friday morning. So I will be going to the infusion center not knowing if I will get my last taxol or not. The nurse said if it's not high enough they will give me another shot on Friday and likely give me last taxol on Monday. But I want to be done on Friday. Let's see.
I hope your cold isn't too bad. Hope you are feeling okay. Hope we both get through our last taxol this Friday. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Hugs!

I had my last taxol today! So happy to be done! It seemed like a really long road but it's over now. Thanks for all the help and support I received on this thread. Good luck to all you still going through weekly taxol. You will get through it.
Mersee how did it go?
Guess I will be moving over to the May 2014 surgery thread soon.
Hugs! Enjoy your weekend.
