Good morning ladies,I'm feeling better this morning. I had my Aredia infusion on Wednesday and it seems the pain is worse after. That's been going on the last few months - it wasn't like that before. Deanna, I will ask for the lidocaine patch when I see my Onc on Tuesday. Ninetwelve - You reminded me of what my psychologist told me the last time I went to see him. He told me to imagine a piece of rubber in my hand representing pain and while breathing, to visualize the rubber melting/diminishing. I totally forgot about that - thanks for the reminder! I also do acupuncture and it helps not only for the pain but an overall wellness. Annie - sorry the Meloxicam is not helping. This pain can really take a toll on us. I couldn't stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks yesterday. I will let you know if the patches do the job. Oh and that radiologist that didn't call.... Hopefully you'll get news Monday. How was acupuncture?
I have to move my butt today - didn't do a thing yesterday.
KWC - beautiful picture. You always bring a smile on my face.
I'm still wondering about Tracey-Canuk. Hope she's OK.
Hugs to everyone - Linda

Linda, I'm glad you're feeling better today. Yes I hope I get to hear from my rad onc on Monday and he doesn't forget. About the Meloxicam maybe it's too soon to tell, have only had 2 days of it. As for the acupuncture I haven't started yet, just located a place half an hour away from me and thinking to call and give it a try. Have to move my butt today too and get stuff done, spent much of the week socializing but it was fun.
Hope you all have a pain free weekend. Hugs, Annie

Annie - glad you are having a pain free day ! Hope you do something fun with this day.
Carla / how are you today ? When do you take chemo again ? I forget but didn't you say you moved to be close to your dd. I might be confused so sorry if thats the case. Where's she at? No one should fight this alone. You have us.
Dlb and dune / hugs
Kiwi - beautiful stars.
Linda - glad you are feeling better. It must be contagious.
I am feeling much much better today also. Dh took both ds's to work with him half a day to help. They clean and earn money occasionally with him. Hoping to still feel great when they get home.
Hi to all I missed. Hope everyone is having a pain free day.

Our sunset last night. I was asleep but dh took pic for me. Beautiful indeed !

Good morning,
I am a bit overwhelmed by how many have joined our thread and actively participate. Sad to say, my once stellar memory is gone and I can't remember everyone who has posted. So, my thoughts are with all for a pain free and relaxing weekend. Work is, as always, all consuming and so I'm enjoying a lazy bit of time in bed , savoring my coffee before starting my day. I'm going to my granddaughter's toddler music class, then shopping and cooking dinner for the mother of a former student who has brain mets from lung cancer. Laundry and cleaning is always part of the weekend routine but I am grateful for the, relative, normality. Take care, everyone.

I agree it goes very fast. Hard to remember each name but certainly hope everyone is having a pain free weekend also.
0 -
Caryn, sounds like a busy day for you! How nice of you to do that for your former student's mother. And yes the dreaded laundry, ugh you can run but you can't hide. Doing the same right now. Enjoy your granddaughter's music class and have a great weekend!
Hugs to all, Annie

LOL, on the laundry. I live alone and for the life of me can't figure out how I still generate so much laundry. I am very lucky to be part of a small, close knit school district. When anyone is in need, the support is incredible. They were there for me, in spades, when I was on medical leave so I always pay it forward. The sad reality is that this mom and I are able to "talk cancer". She doesn't have to explain things to me or feel that I will be upset. How I wish this wasn't true

Linda, I don't get it either. The rib where I have the most pain is supposed to have "resolved." The doctor is going to have to take part of her precious 15 minutes to explain to me why it can still hurt so much. Plus the pain seems to now affect my entire torso, even my sitz bones. Plus I am getting feverish-feeling (will get a thermometer the next time I leave the house) entirely too often lately. It lasts about a day, usually less. I didn't even get to raise my glass of Guinness yesterday. LOL Anyway, what I was responding to was how weird this rib met thing seems to be. I was thinking the same thing about my pain tolerance and every once in a while I try not to take the prescription stuff. It's always a huge mistake. Our pain tolerance isn't going down. No. It's bad pain.
Terrestrial Terre, I'm so sorry to read about your ONJ. I have not experienced that yet. Come to think of it I don't even have the numb jaw I had before I started the meds. Best of luck to you. Brush brush brush with icky toothpaste if that will help. Otherwise I'm glad you are having a good summer.

dune : I hear ya : our pain tolerance isn't going down. Real pain isn't something you shake off

Eve, I'm glad you enjoyed the pirate adventure. I enjoyed it. My mother did not. She doesn't think we should pick up sticks. I tell her, he's a 3 year old boy for crying out loud. Nope. She doesn't want the sticks to end up on her precious lawn and she is afraid me cap'n will poke out his eye. But I, his first matey, keep a close eye on me cap'n at all times. LOL Seriously. Ugh!
Terrestrial Terre, you have proved yourself once again. It's a beautiful picture of the stars. Is it Orion? I have books upstairs, and a star chart, and for 20 years I have meant to go out and search the stars. I did go to a local community college and hung out with some astronomy students where they have an observation dome. The problem for me is that our clearest nights are in the Fall. I have a terrible disease: ATC -- aversion to cold. So, I have never gone somewhere where there aren't a lot of lights and laid in a field and played with my nifty neato star chart. Hmmm. I might just have to add that to my bucket list. I even have a star named after me. You can count on capitalism to sell anything. LOL. An ex-boyfriend bought it for me. I'll have to find the card, or whatever I have kept from that deal. LOL

Hi All! Just popping in to say hello. My company is gone & while I like it when he comes to visit, it is a lot of work.
I can't believe how fast this thread moves & I will go back & read all of them, but I hope everyone is "OK" & not in too much distress.
My back is killing me, it was only in December that I told my onco that the pain was ok, which it was. I could take a tylenol once in a while. Now I seem to be in almost constant pain. I now have to take 2 extra strength tylenol just to dull it. I'm just so tired of the pain, I hope this isn't a bad omen.
Will catch up with all later. Cheers, Dee

Hi all,
Dune - you crack me up. Your mother sounds like my grandmother, who used to make us sit on the back porch to eat (uncovered - just a concrete set of steps) in the winter in South Dakota so we didn't get crumbs on her carpet. Geeze. And I have the same disease as you ATC - Aversion to Cold. That is indeed Orion, but it should look upside down to you. The photo didn't downsize well; may have to do some more editing on it.
Stunning sunset, Patty. Thanks for sharing! I miss the southwest US sunsets, but sure can't complain about the ones we've had here lately.
Hi Linda, Dee, Annie, Nine, Deanna. And anyone else I missed. Hope you gets some pain relief soon!
Caryn - great to hear from you. Sounds like you're busy as can be. Very nice of you to pay it forward.
Well, off to do some yard work. The weeds are loving this summer weather!
Hugs to all.

No one on this thread should EVER feel the tiniest bit guilty about complaining about pain! If we can't do that here , where the heck can we do it it? Also, sometimes we come up with good ideas for each other. I, myself, am hoping that someone can help me with painful swallowing with rads. I know it's somewhere around here but I know you guys and I'm comfy here. I got a little less that half to go....and I believe it's helpful, it's just that swallowing is well....painful like an awful sore throat. I drink ALOT of water and sleep a lot but would love tips.
I think you guys are the best! Never been with braver and I work with cops, vets and FFs!!!!!!!

Hi Valerie,
I don't have any advice but wanted to say hi. I know there are people here who have done the sore throat from rads thing.... My suggestion would be wine, but that's probably not helpful!
Hugs to all,
Terre

Actually...martinis. With really good vodka. Numbs everything. I'm sure it would work for a sore throat. If it doesn't work, after 3 or 4 martinis, you won't care!
I am being silly, by the way. Not trying to poke fun at your pain Valerie - I do feel badly for you.

Beautiful sunset & photo, Patty! Thanks for sharing!
Valerie, your sore throat sounds miserable. I know Hindsfeet had a terrible time with that. Don't know what she did for it, but eventually it calmed down. But you might want to send her a PM since she isn't on this thread very often. She may have found something holistic or alternative to help, since she's really into that. I like Terre's ideas, but suspect the alcohol may not feel too good going down.
Dee, my back pain really kicks in when I overdo it, which you may have done with company. Also wearing boots with heels (instead of my usual athletic shoes) can set it off if I'm on my feet too long. Try taking it really easy for a few days and see if that helps. Hopefully, it will.

Valerie. My radiation dr gave me a liquid called magic mouthwash. Can't remember everything in it but it has something to numb your throat and sonething for pain. You rinse and swallow 30 min before trying to eat or drink. Maybe your dr knows about this. Tasted horrible but worked wonders.

Valerie...for me I used the old basic...Baking soda and salt...I had a couple of soars...and I just gargled a lot during the day with it...and no sores at all..
I too can't remember usernames or names in general in this feed..but I wish everyone well...I'm getting alot of info from ALL of you...
I have my next treatment Tuesday I'll be going weekly....which will be the day for the next 5 to 7 weeks...We are going to scan after #6 to see the progress of my liver masses...I have over 20 lesions at this time..and my bone mets are flaring red...
I pretty much have been ok from the first treatment...just alittle nausea but got that under control with my meds...I have been just relaxing and went grocery shopping after I cleaned my frig out (something was smelling weird So I cleaned it out and sanitized it and went and stocked it with some good healthy things to snack on during the day...i was told that eating sm 6 times a day will help the nausea....:)
Then just enjoying some red box movies...I try to keep on the current ones that are out that I would enjoy watching...All in all...feel well....
Have a good evening my sista's...God Bless...Love to All Carla

Great to hear from you Carla. Wishing you good luck with the next treatment and glad the first one wasn't too bad.
DLB - yeah, not practical, but fun once the numb kicks in. I say that, but I'm actually quite allergic to alcohol and tend to start throwing up after about 2 of anything. Made me a cheap date back in the day! And a great designated driver as it's quite self limiting. However, I used to treat myself to a very high end Vodka martini once a year at the Palms when I lived in Vegas. I also have problems with my back if I wear my boots with heals rather than my "sensible" shoes.
Magic mouthwash may do the trick and help. I know it helped my mom during chemo and that they do custom formulations specific to the problem. I hope you find some relief!
I went out and did the scorched earth thing today. I use a formulation that's safe for pets; it's basically a mineral-oil based spray for weeds. Hoping to get them somewhat under control so I can go in and clear out some areas and do some planting.
Hugs to all,
Terre

Valerie, I used something called Wright mouthwash, that the radiologist at the cancer centre invented. There are others like it and I'm sure your rad onc can prescribe it for you, like Patty's magic mouthwash. I would take 5 ml's, swish for 1 to 2 minutes and then swallow. It is made from Nystatin, dexamethasone, diphenhydramine and sterile water. Worked like magic. Best of luck to you! You're almost done.
Terre, lol on the martinis with really good vodka. Your sene of humor always shine through!
Carla, so good to hear from you and glad you're doing well! Like I said visualizing those mets shriveling away.
Hello Dee, Deanna, Patty, Dunesleeper and everyone on this thread!
Hugs, Annie

I can't keep up either. Dune, thanks for the laughs with the pirate stories!
Carla, glad to hear from u and that your tx r going okay. Tueaday's are my chemo days also, we can think of each other in our infusion chairs.
Sorry for all those in pain, hoping you can find relief.

Hi All! I hope everyone is doing ok!
Valerie, I didn't have a sore throat from rads but I think Terre's idea is a good one, but I would suggest it should be an ice cold gin martini!! The ice cold part should really help & the gin, well, it's gin, it should help all kinds of things!!
Deanna, I'm sure you're right, I have overdone it a bit, but I am finding that the pamidronate isn't helping as much with the pain as it used to. The window of being painfree is getting shorter & shorter. I have an appt with my onco on the 12th, so I will be asking her for ideas & solutions.
Carla, glad to hear that you're not feeling too bad.
Terre, how is DH feeling? I'm trying to catch up on the thread, but didn't see if you have any more info than a week or so ago.
Annie, Patty, Dunesleeper, Caryn, hope you're having a great weekend! I've got a bit of painting to get caught up on & next week is blood work & pamidronate, so too many trips to Nanaimo again, oh well, such is life.... better than the alternative! Cheers, Dee

Reading - good to see you on the thread! sending good thoughts to you and Carla on Tuesday. Actually on Wednesday here!
Dee - hope you find some answers soon. I was having fewer and fewer pain free days and the switch to Celebrex has worked wonders so far for me. I hope yours is that simple.
As for DH, he's doing ok. The District Nurse now has these heavy-duty elastic bandages on his feet. His left foot is almost normal size, but the right one is still really swollen. And we're still waiting for tests. Part of the problem is that the treatment for lymphadema is almost the opposite from the treatment for congestive heart failure, so until they sort out what the root cause of the swollen feet is, he's kind of in limbo and walking about with bandages on his feet. One of the bandages started to fall off, so he taped it up with packing tape. I was teasing him about his ghetto socks. Geeze.
Hugs to all,
Terre

Carla, so glad to hear the first tx went well. Hang in there. What are you using for anti-nausea?

kiwi. - that sounds painful for your dh. Ouch !

Hello to all,
Just came back from the hospital, had to bring dh he's been in rough shape the past couple of days. He has cervical spine damage with degenerative discs. His arm has swelled up and turned cold, can barely lift it without screaming in agony. The doctor said he needs to see a neurosurgeon as his condition is getting worse. They gave him a steroid injection and sent him home with a prescription for dexamethasone which is a steroid in pill form and percocets for the pain. I hope he gets better soon, I've never seen it flare up this badly. Trying to nurse him but having my own problems with my left arm. When it rains it pours!!!
Hoping you're all having a nice weekend.
Hugs, Annie

Oh Annie, that sounds so awful, I hope he gets some relief soon.
Terre, made me laugh, "ghetto socks"! At least you can laugh about these things. I hope they figure it out soon, geez, it's been a while now. I know these things take time, but it's too long now.
It's a beautiful sunny day here, supposed to get to a high of 13c which is about 55F. I know we have mild winters here on the west coast, but it is still January, isn't it?? Not complaining, just worried we will get slammed with cold or snow later on.
Anyway, hope everyone has a good Sunday!! Cheers, Dee

Oh Annie, that's awful! I hope they get your DH's problem resolved soon.
Dee - welcome to the NZ public health system. And NZ in general. NZ literally closes for a month over Christmas. People outside of NZ don't quite get it, but I've had some visitors from the US here over holiday periods and they're astounded - everything is closed and people take at least 2 or 3 weeks, if not a month or more off work. So it means everything runs behind and we have a doctor shortage anyway.
It's supposed to get up to 26C here today and the sun is shining.
Have a good day all,
Terre

That's 78.8 F for those who still use Fahrenheit! I'm sitting here in upstate New York where it's 18 F (minus 7.8 C), but looking forward to a trip to Australia and New Zealand. My cruise ship will be in Wellington on April 2, which looks like it's not far from Otaki. How's the weather that time of year? I guess I should get used to thinking in Celsius!
