Get well soon, Patty, and as Tracy Ulman used to say..just go home!
Hope everyone else is doing well. We had a bit of an adventure...someone was offering a kitten "for free, no questions asked." In an area where we have warnings that there's a dog fight ring operating. So we went and took the kitten. And it was no questions asked. Nice people, just ignorant about what could happen to this wee boy. We took him to Kitten Inn, a non-profit place that rescues kittens. He'll get de-sexed, vaccinated, de-fleaed, wormed, etc, and then put in foster care for a bit as he was just terrified and a bit skittish. Then he'll get rehomed and hopefully have a good life. He was really cute; little brown tabby. I didn't get any pics of him; when we got to Kitten Inn, he went straight into a cubby hole in one of the kitty scratching posts. My husband and I both had kittens climbing all over us while we were there. Just lovely little guys and girls. This tiny tabby crawled all over my husband, purring away like mad (the kitten, although I think DH would have if he could have). Should have been at home either cleaning or finishing up a couple of almost overdue reports, but this was sure more rewarding. And now that they've met me, I'm hoping they'll give me the next volunteer spot that opens up. I did make a donation to them to help with the little dude's care. So hopefully that will help my cause (in becoming a volunteer). I'll be "safe" working there - there is no way I could choose just one, so I won't take any of them. Six is more than enough and three more than our lease allows, that that helps keep us in check with regard to acquiring more kittens.
Hope everyone is doing well...it's Sunday night here and I'm back to work tomorrow. I like my job, but really wish I could have about three weeks off (with pay) to just sleep, catch up on doing things I enjoy, do some yard work, etc. But...back to work! Our meetings last week in Auckland were good; the Director over our group finally 'gets it' and understands why things aren't optimal and that she needs to help us if we're going to succeed. So time well spent away from home for a week.
Hugs to all,
Terre

kiwi. - aww you saved that kitty's life. How sweet.
Feeling much better today. Waiting on dr to come in.., hoping to go home today ! As Dorothy from wizard of oz says ... There's no place like home. Now if only I could click my heels together without falling and breaking something.
Hugs to all

Patty, I hope you're getting to go home today. Always better to be home once you don't need the care the hospital offers.
Terre, how great that you saved that kitty's life! I'm that way about dogs. I can't go near a shelter or I'll take them all home.
I'm just getting ready to leave with my new wife for a little overnight in Chicago, but I have to share some news I received late last night. My cancer clinic posts test results online, and I've been waiting for weeks for my early February tumor markers. Just before bed I checked my email, and it said there were new results for me to see and I logged in. In November they were 50, December 70, and January 99. I started treatment January 9 and my February 6 TM's were 44! I know that's still above normal, and that tm's are not the be-all and end-all, but I am so happy and excited that after only a month, they are down so much. I also find it ironic that I am being treated with the very AI I didn't take the first time around. I'd had bad SE's with Femara and Arimidex, so I declined Aromasin, which I am now taking. I know my MO told me at some point that the research indicated no significant benefit from taking tamoxifen past the 5 year mark, but now I wonder about the AI's. Is there research about using those past the 5 year mark?? Just curious. Anyway, for whatever it does or doesn't mean, I'm happy that my tm's are down so much after only a month, and I'm just going to celebrate that !
Enjoy the rest of the weekend! I'm spending the day tomorrow at the Shedd Aquarium, one of my favorite places in Chicago. Taking the train to avoid any stress for these two days.
Best to all. Sharon

Terre - great cat story. I hope you get to volunteer there. I'd like to volunteer at our local humane society one day, but right now work gets in the way. LOL'd at the dogs.
Patty - I hope you are home with your family by now. Glad you feel better.
Sharron - What great news about your TMs! My DH and I took the train from Michigan to Chicago for the first time last year. Definitely the way to go, although we were severalhours late getting back home. Getting home at 4 am and going to work at 8 was not fun! Belated congratulations to you and Rebecca on your marriage. I hope you have a wonderful time in Chicago.

Hydrane - So very sorry you had to join us but a warm welcome to you. This is a great place to find support, knowledge, information and even humour. The bone meds you refer to are probably bone strengtheners (Zometa, Xgeva or Aredia). If your docs haven't already told you, you should have your teeth checked to determine if major dental work is required as this should be done before starting the bone meds.Good luck with your treatment and thank you for joining us. Keep us posted.
Hugs, Linda

Patty, I can only think of the song lyrics "Set me free why don't you babe, get out my life why don't you babe ...." LOL I hope you are able to do all the things that they require you to be able to do so that you can be discharged to home. There's no place like home. That is a fact. I wish I knew you better. You seem like such a strong, caring person with a great attitude. Unfortunately, your name makes me think of York Peppermint Patties. Are you as sweet and refreshing as one of them?
I get such a kick out of you Dee. I love how you always sign off with "Cheers." And you are spot on about the bathroom. Not too much information at all. Did I ever tell you about my nightmare of a hospital stay where I had to do my business in the middle of the floor. I was badly burned and was on the Burn Intensive Care Unit. So, of course, there's a huge window so that the nurses could see how I was doing. Over to the left there was a wall with a lot of counter and cabinet space. Also a sink. The toilet, omg, was under the sink. I had to open the cabinet door under the sink, and then the toilet opened out into the room. The middle of the room with the great big window. I refused to poop. Now, I'm sure the pain meds they were giving me helped, but I'm telling you, I did not poop the whole time I was there. Urinating was bad enough, but I just could not poop like that. I was truly thrilled to get to my bathroom.
Terre, you are another sweetie, saving that little fella's life. I hope you do get the volunteer job. Any idea when you might find out about that? Donating money to help care for the kitten was a great idea. I never would have thought about that, but I will from now on. Is your weather OK? I heard there were 4 cyclones in Queensland. Oh my. I just read your constipation meme. I'm laughing and Dusty is laughing too. Oh, he's a cutie.
Sharon, I'm totally happy for you. I'll do the happy dance for you the next time I get out of bed. I'm just smiling a huge full-face smile for you. Yay!!!
Welcome to the group Hydranne, although, of course, I'm sorry you have reason to be here at all. My suggestion is to be sure to be your own advocate. Make notes of questions you have and make sure the doctor or someone on the team answers you satisfactorily. Give them any information you have about new pain or changes in pain, or energy level. Really, make note of everything -- then move on and live life.0 -
Welcome Hydranne. Sorry you have to be here, but glad you joined us! There's lots of good support and friendship here, and good information.
Dune - pooping in the middle of the room...too funny. And awful.

Welcome to the group Hydranne, no need to feel intrusive, tho I'm always sad when someone else has to join our group.
Patty, I hope you're home now!
Sharon, such good news!
Oh Dune, that's quite a story, I would have been exactly the same way, no way, no how would anything be happening!!
Hope everyone had a good weekend! I have blood work to be done in the city tomorrow, so DH & I are taking the day & going out for pub lunch & a bit of antiquing. Cheers! (that's especially for you, Dune Dee

That sounds fun, Dee! I'm headed to Christchurch tomorrow for a couple of days of meetings and marketing. Not looking forward to the meeting, but the marketing part is always fun as it involves coffee and food.
I have been accepted as a volunteer at the Kitten Inn on Thursdays starting next week. I really need to do something positive that makes me smile so I can pull myself out of this depressive state. I have nothing to be depressed about really. It's mostly job stress and with stress comes depression (for me anyway). So this should be just what I need to feel better about things. I'm also volunteering to help with the planning for the Otaki Christmas Market (I live in Otaki), which will see Main Street closed down with bouncy castles, food and other vendor stalls, etc. So that will also give me something positive to do.
Patty - hope you're home now!
Hugs to all,
Terre

Hello to all,
Dee, hope all went well with your blood work and you and dh are enjoying your time away.
Terre, my eldest daughter volunteered at a cat shelter and at the end of every shift she wanted to bring one of the cats home. She fell in love with every single one of them and said if she doesn't marry she will be a cat lady. I believe her!!! They still try talking me into another one but Chloe is a handful! I think you will find the volunteer work very fulfilling. All the best to you
Patty, I hope you're home and feeling better.
Hugs to all, Annie

Hi all!! Fun day today, we went for a drive (top down, not mine but the car's! ha ha!) This is the 3rd time in a row that accessing my port hasn't caused me terrible pain, maybe it's/they/me are finally getting the hang of it. But I have discovered that I am allergic to any of the adhesives even a bandaid, not sure what they will do on Friday for my infusion. Oh well, there's worse things.
Terre, you'll have a great time at the shelter, I just hope you don't get any more critters, sounds like you have a house full already, tho what's another couple?! You're a braver woman than me, I would end up taking half of them home. DH won't let me go to the pound with anyone, he's knows I'll come home with a critter.
Nice to see you here Annie, been a while since I've had a chance to say hi.
Hope everyone is doing good. Cheers, Dee

gg27,
I had a terrible rash when bandaids were used near my port, but nowhere else on my body. They now use gauze and a bit of paper tape. I just leave it on for about two hous, because even that causes irritation if left on longer

Thanks Caryn, I will get them to try that again. They used it to cover it last infusion, but I can't remember if it irritated or not. It's a learning curve. Dee

good morning ladies
Welcome hydrane
So I went home after 6 days in hospital in Sunday at 6pm. Mon at 3am woke up vomiting , big D, high temp. Dr admitted me back into hospital mon at 8am. So barely out for 13 hours. Ugh. Dr said will be here awhile this time. Wth ? 6 days isn't awhile ?
I really appreciate all the support, encouragement and love y'all have shown me. Sorry to lazy to respond to all personally. Not sure how I would cope mentally without y'all. Thanks !

Patty, I'm so sorry to hear you're back in the hospital. I'm sending you much love and healing thoughts. Praying they get it under control for you and that you're back home soon. Hugs, Annie

Oh Patty. I am so sorry. Just so very sorry. Do they know what is causing this? You may have said already but I either missed it or forgot.

Dee, this whole thing is a learning curve. Good luck with finding something that doesn't irritate. I wonder if burn wrap could be used. I still got redness and irritation where the tape was used, but my adorable Dr. Soueid told them it didn't need to be taped. (Some of those home nurses are not so good.)

patty, I have not had the pleasure of speaking to you before, but best wishes for a speedy recovery. I know how annoying it is to be in the hospital, but sometimes it is the best place for you.

Patty- So sorry you're back in the hospital. I hope they figure out how to get your system to settle down soon. You have more support here than you know. {{{hugs}}}

Hi all,Patty - so very sorry, but hope that they get everything under control. You're in my thoughts and sending you healing vibes.
Dune, how are you feeling? Is your pain any better? Did you start rads?
Terre- congrats on your volunteer work. I should follow your example - I'm having a bit of cabin fever with this freezing cold.
Wishing all of us a good day.
Linda

Patty, no doubt the hospital is the best place for you right now, but I'm so sorry about what you're going through -- the prolonged vomiting and all. You must be so miserable. Hope they get things back under control quickly! (((Hugs))) & prayers, Deanna

Patty, I hope things get better for you soon. Be as patient as you can be under the circumstances. We are all thinking of you. ML

Linda, the pain is much better now. I actually got the vacuum out, vacuumed, put the vacuum back, and even shoveled some snow. I did all of this very carefully, focusing on my back and avoiding twisting it. The pain sort of rises and falls throughout the day. The past couple of days, I had no pain in the morning. I don't plan on having much pain today because I took an extra pain pill. lol. I took the first one so early, around 4 or 5 am. I am having bad dreams that are waking me up. So I ended up getting up around 6. Now I'm resting in bed. I'm pleased I got done all that I got done. On Thursday I go for the "sim". They will be making a mold of me and marking me. I'm supposed to wear loose clothing, like sweats. I thought they meant for the treatments, but apparently it is all the way through the treatments and until my skin heals. SHOPPING!!!! They will probably start the radiation Monday or Tuesday.
Patty, you really don't let on how miserable you must be. I hope you are feeling better now and they find what is causing this. I'm sorry you are stuck in the hospital. Are you feeling up to doing anything, like reading, watching tv, craft stuff? I'm thinking of you.
