Update: surgery failed. After 26 days the wound is still draining and Doctor says it could be an infection so he's admitting me to the hospital . I'll probably have surgery tomorrow to remove the hardware and to clean the wound and get rid of whatever pus there is. He warned me that depending on the severity of the infection he might have to amputate the leg but I'm trusting my God that won't happen. Prayers welcom

Auroaya, Praying for you. My friend had a long infection, they keep flushing it out and it took at long time, but with the visiting nurse coming regularly give him IV, changing the dressing, flushing it out, etc.. it finally healed. Hope they do the same for you and that the infection disappears quickly.

Thank you Terri! I'm glad that there are a lot of options out there for us. It provides a great deal of hope. You mentioned that you are currently on Zometa once a month, how long have you been on it? Has it helped much with the pain? Have you had any side effects?

    Hi All!

Terre, thanks for posting that article. There is so much good research going on right now.

3Holly, I don't know if I welcomed you to our little (getting bigger, unfortunately) group. Hate that you have to be here, but it's a good group.

Dune, thank you for checking in, I always worry about you. Chelle, looks like a beautiful spot, enjoy!

Auraoya, I am so sorry to hear this. I can't believe they may have to amputate, keeping good thoughts for you. Please keep us informed as best as you can. ((hugs))

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Thank you Annie for checking up on me, I so appreciate it. I'm still struggling a bit with the allergic reaction to my meds, but it seems like it might be getting a little bit better.

We are battening down the hatches here, the wind & rain has hit, our first big storm of the season. We lost power for a little bit, but it's back on again, for how long? Who knows? Luckily we have a generator & a propane fireplace & stove, so we'll be ok as long as a tree doesn't fall on us!! :)

    Take care everyone, Cheers, Dee

Stay safe, Dee! We're considering buying a generator. We have a propane mini-stove and the new house has a fireplace. All we're lacking for our earthquake kit is a generator.

3Holly - not sure if I said hello or not. Welcome to the group in any event. Ditto to anyone else new I missed.

I definitely have Femara/Menopause brain. I have been freaking out a bit about buying this house. There's about a $3500 gap between the required downpayment and my KiwiSaver (like a 401K kind of) amount. So I've been sweating coming up with that, lawyer's fee, loan initiation fees (up to $1400 according to the bank website), etc. Turns out that because I am a customer, there's no loan fee. Still don't know what the lawyer fee will be, but I've already paid the $3500 gap amount. Duh. So I'm actually much better off financially than I thought! But what a bimbo brain I am. Oh well...at least it was a pleasant surprise.

    Sending hugs to everyone!

    Terre

Aurora, sending healing energy your way, you're at the top of my prayer list tonight.

Dee, we're having a rain and wind storm here too. 90km p/h winds. Our windows are rattling and my shutters sound like they're going to blow off. My dh keeps saying we need to buy a generator, I think he's right. It's just so hard to fork out that kind of money but when you need it I'm sure you'll be glad you did. A few places here have lost power, I hope we don't. It's just me and the girls tonight.

Terre, lol to Femara brain, I use that one all the time but it's so true! Glad you had the pleasant surprise of being financially better off than you thought. I like those kind of surprises.

    Hugs to all, Annie

Our power blipped for a bit, but we're back on for a few, so I thought I'd pop in & see how things are.

Annie, you don't need to buy an expensive generator. Watch for a small one on sale at Canadian Tire, it will run your fridge & some lights. We bought a big one because we live on an island where Hydro sometimes can't get to, we can lose power for up to a week & we wanted to be able to run lights, well pump, septic pump and I'm embarrassed to say, TV & PVR along with the fridge & freezer. Fingers crossed that your power doesn't go out while you & the girls are alone.

Terre, good for you for being better off than you thought. I'm excited for you to be moving. I know it's a pain to move especially with your brood, but it will be worth all the freaking out in the end.

Off to make dinner, take care, Cheers, Dee

Thank you so much Terre for those very uplifting articles. I sure hope they have a truly miraculous breakthrough very soon.

Stay safe Dee and Annie, hope you don't lose power.

Aurora, I am so frightened for you. My father had a leg amputation from complications of diabetes. It was from an infection that would not heal also. Do you have a diabetes problem as well? Sorry to be so nosy, I hope you don't mind, I am having some dark thoughts of rememberence. My hugs and love to you and I hope your medical team takes it slow and careful.

    Love to all, Myra.

Au - sending you my love, you have been so brave and tried so hard to play along, hope they really do it right this time! Can't wait to hear from you sooooooon.

Dana - such wonderful news. Oh that's a feel good moment. Your results gives hope to all.

Millandra i can't understand this mess with the reports. They are yours, at least in the USA, no such a thing that someone can't get their info, maybe they could give you a hard time but certain docs wanna look like they are "IT" and you couldn't possible understand, BUT they should give it to you. Would being more assertive maybe make a difference. You should definitely have your reports, including your Blood tests, and the scans themselves. that's what I do all the time, sometimes I have to call a few times, but I sure try my best. Many times we had to go back and compare, and sometimes docs could overlook things, it happened numerous times to us. After dealing with this monster, you sure don't need the extra frustration. Linda E - said correctly, they should not even ask you.Just know that is the right thing to do.

Linda good luck with the rads, nice to know you will feel better.

I was reading all your posts re- the mets, Dani feels pain sometimes constant, sometimes it goes and comes, it's very extensive - it's everywhere, so much that they can't even measure anymore, they just say it's all involvement. the pelvis is full.illiac, the Cervical, the Lumbar, thoracic, the skull - I did ask about radiation, but so far Onco asked us to wait as not to weaken her further, he said he will redo the scans in 6 wks, I do worry- but he says that he would have to lower the dosages from the chemo if she has radiation - does it make sense? I know for sure he cares, I will still ask him AGAIN tomorrow. Dani does not wanna be stuck on a long Rad tx, but....

Xavo - sweetie I could so feel your thumbs up. Thank you all of you, it's a tremendous gift to be able to be surrounded by all of you. Chelle wow what a zen place, nice.

Dune, you know it has happened to me a lot, I write and then if i just move the wrong way everything i wrote disappears. And another thing, that i would like this thread to do - was if we write something, and I wanna go back a page to check on s/o posts, it should not delete all we wrote, we should just be able to continue.

Loves how are you coming along?

Deanna hope you are having a grand time.

    GN everyone

3holly, the bone cement is supposed to be a great minimally-invasvie technique. I looked into that myself, but the surgeon said it wasn't an option for me...he showed me my ct scan and my vertebra didn't have a complete shell to contain the cement (actually quite a bit of the inner wall was missing)

So those with neck mets...was your neck crunchy?

Terre, Thanks for the articles. I think my son knows one of the scientists from Cornell. I'll ask him. I wish all the researchers could simply get the grant money they need quicker to continue research so we all could benefit from their discoveries and get treatment.

Milaandra, my vertebra in T-10 was virtually nothing as well, no kyphoplasty for me either, so I had to have rods surgically put in to stabilize my spine from T-8 to T-12. It has helped.

Keeping it short today. I had/have a kidney stone and increased fractures in my lumbar so I'm back to my walker. I really hate it, but necessary so I don't fall.

    Good Friday to all.....

Very upsetting to read your post, Auroya, but praying the infection can be treated, and that your surgeon has the patience, skill and wisdom to save your leg. ((Hugs)))
