Bone Mets Thread

Babs, congratulations! Grandbabies are one of the things that keep me fighting.
Star, I was dx with stage IV from the beginning with bone and liver mets, and have never had chemo. But they started me on targeted therapy and I am doing very well with my mets resolved now, 13 mos later. Yes, ask a lot of questions. What is the goal? I think targeted therapy for some bc is a new approach from years past because it gives good results with minimal ses and raises the living standard. I questioned it at first also because I didn't know anything, but I am now thankful for this approach.

Went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and got this sea otter for my dd. DH and I got to watch them being fed. Couldn't get any good shots of that however, too many people in the way.
This little guy's name is "Nemmy" because he's holding a sea anemone.

Spoke with Mom. She's just been busy with Dani. Studies are a hugh time commitment!!!!
Got back my scan results. More larger and hotter spots in liver and thoracic areas and spine too. Wish something would work for a longer time. Onto Halaven so will lose my hair that was finally growing back. It will be a hot summer under this fricking wig. But I need to be a part of my grandson to be in Decembers life so onward and upward!
Any input in this new chemo would be appreciated!!!!
My 2 granddaughters from yesterday!!!

Babs, I am so sorry to hear about your scan results. I, too, hope they will find the magic bullet that will attack those cancer cells in your body for a long time. I have no information or advice about Halavan, but I think there was a thread about it a while back. I am keeping you in my prayers. That grandson to be will enjoy being in your warm embrace when he arrives in December. Your granddaughters are lovely. It looks like they were having lots of fun on that porch. How old are they?
Hugs from, Lynne

Hi Babs,
so sorry to hear you are moving on to another treatment. You've got to catch a break now! I don't know anything about Halaven but there is a thread called "Halaven - Day 1" that may be of help to you. It was started back in 2010 but I see that it is an active thread and there are very recent posts. There are some people (Ebru and Cling for example) on there who we know from other threads. We're all here with positive vibes for you! You will see your grandson in December and beyond! Hang in there. Stay strong. You're breakthrough is on the horizon! ((Hugs))

Thank you ladies!!!! What would I do wo you all
Lynne. The girls are 4 1/2 & 6 1/2 and are pure joy. I don't see them often due a nasty DIL and stupid son but when I do I'm in heaven!!!!
I know it will be so different with my dd and her child. That's why I'm so excited about this baby!

Babs, I just finished my second shot of second round of Halaven today. Jennifer has done this treatment plans twice and is still on Halaven. It may be Ebru's next tx. Come to visit at "Halaven - Day 1" thread. It is an rather easy and kinder chemo, at least for me. I only had digestive tracts SEs. After thinning hair for 28 days, I still have enough to cover my head. Hope it will be like nurse Evan said, thinking but not bold. It will hold you until new grand boy time.

Babs, your granddaughters are adorable. I know they are a blessing. Grandsons are also amazing and I know you will be hugging and kissing yours in December. I will pray for your new treatment that it will go easy and well.

Thrilled to see the news about a grandson on the way, Babs! And your granddaughters are adorable. Also... thinking about your med situation... I know you're @ MSK... Have they done any genomic or drug sensitivity testing? Surely there is something out there that will yield better outcomes than you've had with recent choices. It would be an answer to prayer if it's Halavan!
PS...we're away, so once again I'm waybehind on reading, not ignoring others... just happened to catch Babs' posts.

Deanna I had genome testing. There is nothing for me now except a study of 3 drugs in combo- two of which already failed me so the MO felt it wasnta good choice. And they do NOT believe in drug sensitivity testing at all. They feel testing in a Petrie dish really doesn't translate. Not sure I agree! The more info the better!!!

Babs I'm praying for you, I feel like we are in the same boat. So many drugs have failed me and today I had my blood worked on and I'm a nervous wreck.
Congratulations on your beautiful granddaughters, they are beautiful.
Hi to everyone.
Meanwhile I'm still loosing weight and I don't know what to do anymore, I don't even like to go out anymore.

Oh babs those girls are so cute, the best ages for grandma! How can a DIL be so shortsighted as to be nasty and stingy with the grandkids. She is only robbing them...Go halaven, kick those mets butt!

Zi, I am praying your bloodwork shows some progress and they can find the answer for you. The waiting for results is so hard!
Tomorrow I go in for my Zometa infusion. I am hoping I tolerate it well as we plan on attending the fair on Friday...
0 -
IntoLight...here's what I do so my Zometa won't cause me intolerable SEs:
1. Drink AT LEAST 2 quarts of water today, and as much water as you can b4 you go in.
2. Don't eat anything spicy, greasy, heavy today/tonight or tomorrow morning b4 you go in. (I usually have a couple of eggs and toast for b'fast, a light snack of fruit (usually a banana) and crackers for lunch, and either chicken/rice soup or chicken/noodle soup for dinner)
3. This is really important: Take a Benadryl antihistamine tablet ONE HOUR b4 your appointment so the drug will be in your system at infusion time. (Ask for extra saline at the end of the infusion time, too.)
4. Continue to drink water AFTER the infusion and eat lightly.
5. Friday continue to eat lightly (funnel cakes and corn dogs "could" upset you if you don't have a cast-iron stomach) and stay hydrated...basically eat as tho you have the stomach flu for a couple of days after the infusion so your body can accept it with no disturbances.
I did NOT do any of this for my 1st Zometa infusion, and boy did I regret it! But no one TOLD me how to prepare for it until after the fact. I felt like I had been hit by a truck the 1st day after, and then the diarrhea hit the 2nd day after.
Since I've followed the above 5 things, I've never had any problems since, and hopefully you won't either.
Remember, Zometa is actually used in its "full strength" form for certain forms of BONE CANCER. The infusions they give breast cancer patients are weaker and are only 15-20 min infusions as opposed to the usual ones that take hours.
Good luck!

Just had my first Halaven. Took no time. Biggest issue was finding a vein to use. I'm running out !!!! Will see what SEs I have!

Hey Babs. Im glad it was quick for you. Have you already had a port. If you cant have that maybe they can put a Picc line in. That would solve the problem of running out of veins. Prayers and hugs. I just know the Halaven will nip it in the bud

Melanie I had a port my first go round with bc. I think a pic line may be in my future!!!!
