Cami- oh no, that is not good about your fall. Are you okay? I know you have that delicate back and other bone issues, nothing broken? Sounds like a softer fall with the grass but scary just the same. I hope you are not too sore and bruised tomorrow!

    Jazzy. I hate her too!

If you all remember Twiggy, back in the 60s, people would say how much I looked like her. Even the hair cut. Geeez I was a skinny thing. Not any more. I blame it on my job. Sitting all day, or sleeping. No real chance for good snacks (or potty stops). No energy at night to do more than sit.

Nope, nobody's gonna say I look like Twiggy now.

Spookie- even when I was at my thinnest, I never was considered thin as I have one of those hour glass/rubinesque figures that were popular in other eras! I just should have been born in the Renaissance period or the like! My goal these days is to try to get to a healthy weight and to be healthy. I am trying to do more exercise, but sometimes just too tired.

Cami! I do hope you know i would have ascertained that you were really alright before peeing my pants from laughing too. it was a few months ago, right? and you really are ok? i just meant i would be so relieved at your laughing at what was said, would have mostly assured me you were ok. i get scared sometimes at just the idea of falling, as i hav absolutely no padding anywhere. the other day i got home and kicked off the shoes, and what i didnt know was that my man had spot mopped in the kitchen, and i sailed about four feet with my arms windmilling, before i caught my balance! and i could not laugh as it was way to scary to imagine falling and its consequences. there are way too many stairs in my house to get a broken hip er strained back. id have to get a motel room to heal in. i am so tired of me right now.

Oh Guys stop it u are not tired of u, u'r tired of not feeling like u--u'r all beautiful women who have weathered a hurricane of a storm and still trying to find the end.--Oh I have fallen so many times and we all laugh each time cuz I fall in slow motion, I have always moved in slow motion and I even fall in it, it's really kind of funny, so far I've not hurt anything to badly but the falling is slow. Tht's the trick.

kathec, that was very kind of you to say that. I know we all belong together. We have all had the shock of our lives, had our lives changed forever more, and then moved forward and dealt with it in our own ways.

Oh my gosh cami!! Funny story, yes, but so glad you weren't hurt!

I have struggled with weight most of my adult life. What turned things around was being dx'd with diabetes last year. I immediately switched to a very strict low carb high fat way of eating, leading to nutritional ketosis. The pounds melted off and I am actually very close to my "ideal" weight. And my blood sugar is totally normal now. Then of course bc came along this year and lost some more weight to it. I really can't stray from my way of eating because I value my sight and my feet and legs. My late DH went blind and lost a leg due to poor management of his diabetes. He was not going to change his diet no matter what. I'm not going down that road!

I can sure identify with the tired...... it doesn't take much of anything and I'm exhausted!

Gramma Diabetis too??? So Sorry---It's really a rough road u'r on and I never say Journey, only because Journey reminds me of Adventure and wonder and fun. Dis ain't dat.

Can u believe this job I have is getting to me--this dam phone rings at 9PM--7AM Saturday, sundays and I= gets all kinds of calls for ins. and all that stuff businesses need and I can't ignore picking it up cuz it says the numbers but not who it is, Drat. So I never nap or relax cuz as soon as I do the phone rings, then I have the computer to deal with and by the end of the day my eyes burn, well not so much here cuz I don't spell check, but there I do and it takes me longer--u'd never think I typed for a living basically, My fingers don't work like they used to and I'm really not in the mood to talk sometimes and act all nicey nice. I throwing down pain pills and acting nice--doesn't work well for me with strangers--I avoid people remember. LOL

Ya, got the big D too, T2. Isn't life grand?! I have the D under control and as long as I don't stray from my woe, it will stay that way. No complications from it so far. I'm motivated as I have seen the worst.

That sux that the phones sound like they are 24/7. Can you use an answering machine for a couple hour break to take a nap? Or are you the answering machine??

It is 0°F outside right now ( 11:45 PM), gonna be a cold night! Negative night temps predicted for several more days. Snuggled in the recliner by the fire watching Farscape (Sci Fi TV show). Will soon be snuggled under my down comforter!!

GrammaB- my doctor said I was diabetic during my last A1C test, but put me on a lower dose of metformin. She said it is really borderline and worked with me to start turning things around. I have been low carbing it too and seem to be doing okay through the process. Some weight loss, but not as much as I would hope for. I may have to reduce from 45 g per meal to 30 g of carbs to loose more weight. The AI seems to make loosing weight much harder. I need to find out from her when she wants to see me again to recheck the AIC. The fasting glucose has always been okay when we have checked it. I have read several women on the AIs have found themselves diabetic within a short time. You sound like you are right on top of things.

My mother was diabetic towards the end of her life which I believe contributed to many problems including a major stroke. I know how bad it can get too. A friend of mine had her eyesight compromised with diabetes in her 40/s.

I stopped eating anything with processed sugar in Sept and feel better as a result!

Jazzy u and gramma re very disciplined and I so admire that. That's  very stron attribute. Me not so much.

Gramma everyone heard this story, but my D is violenty explosive and comes whenever it chooses--I hadn't ha it for like 2 weeks (a record) and went to my borther big 80th BD prty at a restaurant and felt OK, I got up to go to the bathroom to pee and it violently explodes out of me right there in front of about 40 people mu sister saw the look on my face and right away came behind me and said let's go, well the bathroom was way down the hall and it was coming out the whole time, the really sad thing is I've lost most of my embarrassment since I've had it for 5 1/2 yrs--I've gone everywhere--Even depens can't protect me when it's insane nd it usually is. They can not find a reason for it--I t started the first week of chemo and never stopped. It's a PITA literally LOL Just another fun thing to add to this ongoing nitemare. And I love scary movies wath them all the time, even the cheesy ones LOL

    Good Morning Hermits,

So much has been shared since I posted a day and a half ago.  At least so much deep info, and aren't we all so many physical and emotional layers which surface at various, some times, unexpected times?

Kathec, I hope you will be able to get a doc you like to help with the treatment of your seroma.

Jazzy, I keep looking for a winter rad group.  If one doesn't surface by the time I go for my pre-radiation appointments, I plan to start one.  I too have always had a weight problem.  Your mention of low carb eating is prompting me to rethink my eating.  I do lose weight with low carb eating.

GrammaB, stay warm ... yikes your temps are low.  I remember wind chill from my Chicago days, but I don't remember temps like you are having.  Here in northern Nevada we are having a cold streak now, but the temps would seem warm by Montana winter standards.  Drive carefully ... ice scares me the most now.  I learned to drive in Chicago and never gave winter driving much thought.  Now at 70, with few really icy days a year, I hesitate to go out on icy roads.  I hear the phase on some threads, "put on the big girl pants."  Maybe I need to put on the big girl pants and drive.

Cami, I bet your business phone callers love talking to you as your sense of humor always shines through.  I bet you brighten many a caller's day.

Spookiesmom, I agree with you that sitting all day makes weight loss hard.  When I was teaching, I was constantly walking around my classroom.  Even then I had weight issues.  Now, in retirement, with more sitting, losing and maintaining weight is harder.

Have a good day everyone.  Hair cut day for me.

    Sally

Sally, my Sense of humor doesn't come acroos with these people I can't even hear on these damn new phone and when I put it upside down it's worse, which I have done.

Well I took a shower and since I'm working I put my good PJ's on I only wear the best for work. and I smell luscious, but no one can smell me--well my family does. LOL

Chit I forgot I was thinking about going out tonite, but by 5PM I'm pretty much done in lately more so than before so I probably --won't go I'll see how things are going later. Oh would I love some homemade chocolate cookies right now--it'll never happen. I did get an easy recipe off Fb for cookies, Joey and I are going to make them---3 ingredients never made them but sound easy and really good--we have to have a practice run on them--and if there goo u can make them in ny flavor u want so that means all different kind of the same cookie----We usually make cookies u don't make and fudge--which is so good, but it's always hit or miss for us. So we'll see. It's terrible cuz I hate to commit, I never know how I'll feel so we have to just get the stuff and do it whenever.

Cami, if you like the 3 ingrediant cookies, please let us know. I might actually make those. I only seem to cook/bake super simple foods.

grammeB, have you heard or seen anything from Molly since that one time? I can't log in there anymore, and really don't want too. Wonder how she is doing, and did we scare her off.

was a school bus driver. Sat most of the day behind the wheel. Can't park those suckers just anywhere, size matters there! So the fast food places usually have the biggest lots, that's where we went. What yummy choices. LOL

Spookiesmom ... I want you to know that I think school bus drivers are very special people. I rode school buses as a student and helped load school buses with tired, hyper after school kids. You drivers have so much to deal with and very few, if any, kids are thinking of their driver. I could never have dealt with the stress. As a high school student, I had a great time flirting with a certain boy on the bus. We never dated ... just flirted ... fun memory.

Jazzy, you might want to consider lowering your carb count even more. I eat about 20-25 carbs a DAY. Carbs really are the villain when it comes to raising blood sugar. What you also have to realize is that low carbing for diabetics is not just a diet you eat until your numbers stabilize, it is a forever way of eating. The best form of low carb is lc/high fat/moderate protein. Excess protein turns to glucose in our body so you don't want to over do. Sounds like you caught it early and with good control, should not see any of the awful complications.

Oh cami (((hugs))) that sounds just awful. How brave of you to not let it get in the way of enjoying things as much as possible.

Spookie, I was just thinking of Molly yesterday. I haven't seen her around here. I will pop over to the d forum and see if I spot her there. Maybe she is hanging in the Nov surgeries thread? I don't see how we could have scared her off at all.

Well, I have to get busy. Actually have a couple eBay orders to ship. It is 8°F outside and I just hate that I missed my mail carrier so I have to go out to the PO. Brrrrr!

    Hugs to all!

CC, cinnamon can help some, others not so much. I can only eat about an ounce of blueberries at a time and only about once week. Otherwise I get a spike from them. So that wouldn't work for me and most likely many other diabetics. I hadn't heard/read that blueberries lowered blood sugar. Maybe I did in the past and had to let it go as I can't eat that many of them.

LOL, I drink enough water to launch a ship each day!! :))

Thanks for the suggestions though. One never knows when something new will come up that works. :)

Gramma B- you are right that the low carb eating is now the way of life now. The days of eating a plate of pasta, a few slices of pizza, chips, or any number of other things are over. Also, anything with processed sugar like candy, cookies, cakes, pies, etc. is also finished. I don't crave the sugar like I thought I would, been off it three months now. Sometimes the carb thing is harder.

I think your idea of further dropping the carbs per meal is something I need to do now. Since I have been on the 45 carbs per meal thing for awhile now, I think I can handle the further reduction without too much of an adjustment. I eat a lot of salads with some protein, and leans meats plus veggies for most of my meals. I try to not over do it with the fruit, although I love fruit. Thank you for your suggestions!

Fortunately, all my problems to date have been caught early as I am very good about going the doctor and getting my routine check ups. My BC was very early and my doctor starting checking my AIC awhile ago and when it went borderline this year, she took action. Despite finding things early, I still feel like a train wreck most days!

CC- I put cinnamon in my coffee ever morning with some fat free milk. My own sort of skinny latte and I had read years ago cinnamon was also supposed to be good for the heart, which of course, ties to healthy blood sugar.

We had a snow storm today and got three inches of snow in the valley, more in the mountains. We have had two storms so far the past month, and it is a good thing as we have been in a severe drought for awhile. The roads were clear when I came home from the client site tonight, and the temps are dropping fast and it is very cold here (teens). No doubt GrammaB in Montana and those of you in the midwest and northeast will be able to top that with your stories. This storm is big and headed east so be careful my hermit friends as it comes your way next!

Jazzy it is coming our way with more of a vengeance too--well we'll see cuz each area of our state is getting it differently not good but differently. U kind of wake up and see what's going to happen. IDK I feel like winter is going to be strange this year more than other years anyway. And an ice storm is the worst, they weight down the trees so much and power lines, u can't walk or drive We'll see--Everyone stay safe and cozy.

Jazzy, the more you can reduce carbs the better your control over diabetes will be. Just remember as you reduce carbs you need to replace the energy source. The best replacement is fats. Saturated fats, butter, full fat sour cream, heavy whipping cream, coconutnoil, full fat cream cheese. Eat the skin on the chicken and the lovely juicy fat on the rib eye steak. These are all healthy fats.

We have all been conditioned for years to believe that saturated fats are bad and it is just not true. It takes a leap of faith in the beginning to increase the fats, but I can testify from my own experience, I lost 50 pounds in about a year and have kept it off another year eating a nutrient ratio each day of 5%carbs/15% protein/80% saturated fats.

Then bc came along and I lost another 15# to BMX and related stresses around surgery. With the bc I was caught really early and luckily have avoided any other treatments than the BMX. With the diabetes, I was a little further down the road, my A1c was 9.5% and fasting was 243 at dx. My last A1c in June (1.5 yrs after dx) was 4.4% and my fasting #'s range from mid 60's to low 70's. I will never change my way of eating and do not ever cheat on my eating plan, ever. I know myself and one cheat will lead to another and pretty soon, I'm off plan and at risk of dreadful complications. No food is worth losing my vision or a limb.

All the different places we live have their own challenges from Mother Nature. Right now here in MT it is bitter cold, but calm and no snow. When I lived in the Sierras in CA the snow was heavy and wet and a biatch to shovel. Here the snow is light and dry and I can sweep it off the porch.

Jazzy, thanks for the train scene. Our tree has been up a few days. The pic is pulling me out of the stall mode we have fallen into. It's made me anxious to set up the train and village buildings ... just a small display under the tree.

We really need the snow we have been having to boost our summer water supply. However, I am sorry for the problems it causes.
