Jeanelle: ask your MO if it's OK if you record your appt as you know so much will be covered and it would help to listen to it again at home, I used the Voice Record app on my iPod. I've recorded all my Dr visits, none has objected.

Hi RMlulu -
Thanks for the post, it was today that I realized that I had misunderstood some information that was quoted to me. I guess that the estrogen blocker really isn't s form of chemotherapy, as I had thought. It truly is a just hormonal approach. There isn't any real oral chemotherapy medications so if that was to be needed, it would be the traditional form that would make a person lose hair.
The nurse practitioner, navigator, explained that lymphodema really wouldn't be a concern for me from my team. I wouldn't have to take all those precautions to heart, just try to have the shots, etc on the other side (left). I think I was just overwhelmed and couldn't keep all facts straight. The navigator spoke with me on the phone for almost 30 minutes today, which wasn't the first instance either. Thank God for her.

Hi NItengirl -
I hope that the rest of your recovery continues to heal. Like you said that is the first real step towards real recovery. BTW what does LX stand for?

MarieBernice6234, Lx = lumpectomy. You might consider editing your profile to include diagnoses, treatments, etc. Sometimes it makes a difference in response to your questions or lets someone else know that you and she share something the same. It also is a concrete way for you to document your progression through treatment to health!
Certainly understand being overwhelmed with all the information thrown at you. One book I found that is a huge help in figuring it out is Dr Susan Love's Breast Book. It is excellent. Huge but worth the money and effort. I read it cover to cover in one weekend and have gone back to re-read pertinent parts at different stages of my treatment. And do read the articles from the home page of breastcancer.org . They will help clarify your journey.
We're here for you! HUGS!

heres the post op report:
LCIS , calcifications, b9 ( same as biopsy) but that means that didnt find anything else in there *happy dance*
Bi-Rads 4a
The lady took off the steri strips and says "beautiful" about the incision lol
expect to be sore 6-8 weeks (unless i keep getting hit at work.. then maybe a little longer ;p)
no rads needed
have 6 fibro blah blah blah in rt boob that they will watch (lx was lf boob)
and told me " go meet the MO and say 'Hi' and see if you want to use their services" (ill prolly say no to meds .. i think)
also one doc said grandma getting bc at 80 didnt count and that my grandmas siblings and their kids who have it didnt count either. This lady totally disagreed.. so now I also now have a family history of BC i guess.. which ups my already 'high risk' to higher risk.
i have a 30% risk of bc in my life time and stats show about 17 yrs after a lx I can expect more issues.. Ill be 56 by then.
so Im on the 6/6 plan or as im going to call it.. the M & M plan *crack myself up*

Ive decided having a lx/boob pain/ etc is the equivalent of having a sunburn. Like how when you are burnt thats when people pat you on the back extra hard, the cat scratches the burnt thighs. EVERYONE and EVERYTHING bumps/hits/knocks/pushes off me from the sore boob! its like there is a beacon or a sign "please push here" *shakes head* at least its Friday Hope everyone is having a good day

Panthrah, I totally get that. If I could find that damn sign I'd tear it off but it must be visible only to other people!

Ladies,
Thanks again for the encouragement. I got my pathology report and the margins were clear so I am good there. Still trying to decided on a little recontruction surgery. I would like them to lift and reduce the healthy side to match the LX side. Is it would it?
Panthrah-LX is for lumpectomy I thought. I could be wrong. still trying to get all the lingo. I saw people refering to MX as masectomies as well.

Niten, Clean margins is fantastic news! So happy for you!
I know I've posted this before, but my girls match after the plastic surgery...much closer match than the ones I was born with. Thin, thin scars, no loss of sensation. They look and move completely normally... if I was 25 again! Find a good PS who works with BC patients.
Do you have any specific concerns?

you are correct Nitengirl1 lx is lumpectomy . on the main page there is a "guide to abbreviations " cause there are lots and I use that page often to decode some peoples posts
I went for a massage today and was a tad worried cause it still is tender to lay on my stomach. they had a boob pillow for me!!!! slightly raised wedge with cut out for boobs. was stoked! NO pain, no twinging, didnt get squished! and he could dig in with his elbow and it didnt affect my chest at all!. I didnt even know those things existed happy day

BTW, the abbreviations are also listed on the right side of the screen for each of the forums just down a bit from the top (under that list of things - it's a drop down list).

Jeanelle,
It is not stupid to have a breakdown, your body needs to do that in order to release some of the stress. I was being strong for my family and then my SIL who has been through bc said "you know it is ok for you to cry". Well, I couldn't hardly stop the flood gates to finish our phone conversation! I did feel a great sense of relief after that breakdown. Don't be hard on yourself, it is very normal to go through these periods of breakdown. They will get better once you get your plan of action and you get into fighting mode.

a quote that I made up in the beginning (and also in the middle) when I was crying a lot was:
Every tear you shed leaves room for strength to enter. My son actually had this printed and put on a canvas for me. It is still up in my room.
We all will discover strength that we never knew we had and sometimes it will surprise you what you endure and tolerate but we are all doing it with strength, courage and grace.
"I am women, hear me roar!" I had them play this at my last radiation session. Listen to it ladies and sing it real loud whenever you need to!

LisaJ514 You made up one helluva good saying.
We all do what we have to do because it's the only way we know. And we are definitely in the "I am woman, hear me roar" mode when we are grappling with this crappy disease and killing it with everything necessary.
Thanks!

guess we're all helping the bra industry! I have a bunch of new different bra's too, but 1 favorite which is softest. Thinking of ordering a couple more. I got them from Women Within Plus size online.
I still sleep w my extra little pillow they gave me prior to surgery ( it's about the size of a tablet) and helps prop and pad the Lx side when I side sleep and keeps my arm above and off my boob when I back sleep. This might help others that have pain while sleeping and need some extra prop/support.
P Peg, get as much rest as possible and (((hugs)))) to you for being such great support to DH. Looks like rad is coming along.
Thinking of you all, hugs!!!

nitengirl1 so happy about your clean margins. I know that's a huge relief.
Mripp I'm trying to get rested. DH still very sick.

PoppyK-Did insurance cover your procedure? There is question whether mine will. It would have covered without question a MX or BMX with full reconstruct but might not with LX? Go figure? I would like them to match.
my tumor was at the 6 o'clock position and they had to remove all nipple, so the bad boob is now smaller and higher. I don't mind be a size smaller, but would like to do it to the good side.

Hello nitengirl. I saw your post about insurance perhaps not covering, is that reconstruction? I had the same as you - lump plus nipple removed. My doctor called it partial mastectomy. I think she used that language so that insurance would cover any reconstruction necessary. Not sure they will do that for a classified "lumpectomy" but using a different term, they are required to cover, depending on insurance of course. May be worth looking in to.
