Cancer patients treating with DCA (to shrink tumors and/or prevent cancer recurring) require additional supplementation of Thiamine/Vitamin B1. This is because the DCA utilizes thiamine stores in your body to shrink and expel the tumor cells – this increased utilization of thiamine can trigger thiamine deficiency without adequate supplementation. This Thiamine Deficiency has symptoms of the Nervous system disorder, known as “Dry BeriBeri (see below). To learn more about DCA visit pureDCA.com
Vitamin B1 is an essential vitamin known as aneurin, thiamin, and thiamine deficiency in this vitamin can be serious. Vitamin B1 is water soluble and must be taken daily to replenish our stores and prevent thiamine deficiency. Thiamin helps maintain a normal metabolism; process carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; burn carbohydrates for energy; and, aid in metabolism of amino acids. Every cell requires Vitamin B1 to fuel our body. Nerve cells require Vitamin B1/thiamine powder in order to function normally. Thiamine Deficiency has serious repurcussions to your health.
Thiamine Deficiency is reversible with supplementation.

Had my lumpectomy on thurs 2/19. Back at work today! Still feel a little woosy from the anesthesia but otherwise fine. I have really no pain from the incisions.. 2 .. one for the removal and one from the SNB. I am a little sore but that's about it. I have no mobility problems at all. I am trying to favor that arm a little just to be safe but I am really surprised at how good I feel. Surgeon told my hubby that the pathology looked good and Plastic surgeon said it was only a small area that he had to fill. So now on to the waiting game to find out all the particulars. Praying that radiation and tamoxifin is all I will need. Go back on 3/4 and hopefully will know the path I need to go.0 -
Congratulations. Leighrh! How great to have that behind you and that it went so well. Extra-great that PS has already been done and you hopefully will be DONE with surgery and only rads to go. I think 3/4 will be my first rads day, after set-up on the 3rd, so I hope we both have good days that day

Leighrh....I know how good that feels to be over and done with!!! Praying for great path report.

Way to go LeighRH! I'm glad you're feeling so good. Please try to not overdo it. It's easy when nothing particularly hurts. I'm sure you're aware that surgery always takes a lot out of you. Rest!!! Smart you for doing your PS at the same time. Fingers crossed for a fantastic path report. Keep us posted. HUGS!!!

Thanks everyone! I sit at a desk at work so I am not really that active. My mom is also here to help me with my kiddos... that is the hard part LOL. When I get home I can just go to bed0 -
YEAH Mom!!! You've got it all set just right, LeighRH. Smart! HUGS!!!

Wow Leigh! Take it easy.
Mine was a week before Thurs, 2/12. AND I'M STILL WAITING ON PATHOLOGY REPORT! I called last Friday and nurse said to call back today so I will!
UGH....
My two-week post-op is this Friday.
I found some playtex 18-hour no underwire front-hook bra that I'm going to try today....
I'll post results when i get them.
Stay warm, y'all!

Just goes to show that everyone has a different experience... I really feel fine other than more tired than usual at the end of the day and having my mom at home when I get there to take care of everything so I can go to bed is very nice. But today I even have on a regular bra. I'll admit I am a huge bra gal.... I have lots!! I love pretty bras... so I put one of my bigger ones on this morning and it's fine underwire and all. It's not bothering my SNB site or the other incision. Prob has to do with the location but I was excited to just be normal! I am pretty active so it really bugs me not to be. I am hoping now to coax the docs into letting me get back to the gym next week0 -
leighrh....good for you. I think it really helps to get back to your normal schedule. I took the weekend off then went right back to chauffering my DD. I did wait a couple of weeks before going back to yoga but continued walking. Other than some minor discomforts I've been good.

Leighrh, 6 days after my lx I was back to riding my horse, though it was another week or so before some of the movement (think trot) was totally comfortable, so I took it easy and had a bra that held everything pretty still without hurting anything. I was out walking right away after surgery—I agree that it helps so much to get back to normal activity asap. I was lucky that I didn't have any nodes removed, but because my DCIS was at 6 o'clock, the idea of underwire bras is still unappealing to me, though it would probably not really hurt much at this point. I'm happy with the wire-free ones I found, though, so see no reason to go back. Next hurdle is seeing what works through rads! I hope you continue to feel great.

Peggy sorry to see about you losing heat, but happy that you now are staying warm. I think we are all looking forward to Spring!I have had a busy several days with working, my daughter visiting and my other daughter's basketball tournament. It was nice to keep busy and take my mind off things. It was back to reality yesterday. I spoke with my BS yesterday and she recommended going with another lumpectomy. So, I had it done this morning. She told my sister that she went very aggressive again and instead of taking one piece to clear the margin, she took two. Fingers crossed. I am happy to say a lot less pain than the last one. And, it seems less swelling as well. The nurse told me that there were blood clots that had to be removed. When I had mentioned all of the bruising after the last surgery (to the on call surgeon) she thought the blood would just absorb back into the tissue. Needless to say, I am glad I had the surgery done today. I will get more details about the surgery on Friday at my appointment. I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Rekidal, I'm glad you went with the 3rd lumpy and that it is OVER! Really good that you are more comfortable this time too. Had to have been a help having your daughter visit and your other daughter's basketball tournament (plus work, of course), to keep you sane. Fingers crossed for a FANTASTIC path report Friday.

rekdial.....I know you are glad to have this finally done. Sounds like its a good thing due to the blood clots that had to be removed. Hope your recovery goes smoothly and that your path report comes back with good news.

Hi Peggy and Nash, Thank you. I am going to think positive about the path report!0 -
Rekidal, glad they got all those blood clots out. They are a pain. And ugly to boot

I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I've been trying to catch up but failing miserably. Things have been very hectic here. Work is obnoxiously busy. I'm having mood swings from he** going on from the tamoxifen. On top of that all, a friend that I met when I first started my BC journey passed away last week from BC. She was only diagnosed 3 months before I was and really helped me when I was first diagnosed. I'm been going through some survivor's guilt because she was so young (36).
Anyways, I hope every one is staying warm and safe in this weather that we have been having. *hugs*

Jeanelle, I am so sorry to hear about the demise of your young friend. You gave her a rare, wonderful gift of understanding what she was going through and also letting her into your journey. I hope your pain eases and is replaced by lovely memories of her. Becky

Jeanelle, HUGS! Sounds like you could use a whole bunch. That's really awful about the passing of your young friend. I totally understand the survivor's guilt you are feeling. Her journey and experiences must have helped you along your path, so treasure them and remember all the good things she contributed to your friendship. Sorry that you're having SEs from the tamoxifen. Hopefully they'll dissipate soon. More HUGS!!

I sure wish there was a way to click a Like or Yes or something like that, and not have to write an epistle. So many times I would like to just use a one word or short phrase to someone's post. I don't post a lot but read each entry almost every day.
Think about you gals and the challenges we each face with this condition known as BC.

Hello ladies...
Need to vent.
I had my lumpectomy on Thursday, Feb 12. I STILL have NOT received my results. I called Friday and they said to call yesterday. I called yesterday and they said pathologist isn't in that office but another satellite location, so the nurse would call. I called back just now and she said pathology never called back and she doesn't even know which pathologist was doing my report. She is calling pathology office back again to locate my report. My doc is out of the office at a meeting and he would have to call during a break to speak to pathologist directly because it has to be doctor to doctor. She said sometimes the hold up could be something as simple as needing a signature. REALLY?!? She said she hopes to get info back to me today.
UGH!
I did get a call with the same first three digits earlier today and my heart jumped thinking it was my doc. But no, it was an automated call from the billing department offering to help clarify my bill if I didn't understand it. NO! I want to understand my pathology report!
Sigh.....

Allicat, sorry you have to wait. It's not fair to make a person wait such a long time, when it is so very stressful and anxiety inducing.
I hope you hear from them soon.

AlliCat I hope you keep hounding your doctor's office. I can't understand why it would take so long for the path report. Seems unreasonable to me. Perhaps different institutions have different work loads and that makes a difference in the time frame. But please keep calling and demanding answers! HUGS!!!!! (And a great path report!).

jeanelle....so sorry about your friend, way too young. And sorry you are having to deal with mood swings on top of this. Sending you ((hugs)))

Thanks for the hugs everyone! I truly appreciate it.
allicat - keep bugging your doctor until you get those results. I would have gone crazy if I had to wait that long. I got preliminary results as soon as I woke up and the full report a week later.

Allicat, I waited 16 days for the verbal results from my doctor. She still didn't have the written report. I live in Massachusetts and I found out that my slides were sent to Tenn. and Washington for further testing. I finally called the hospital pathology department (on the 19th day) and asked if I could get a copy directly from them. They told me that it hadn't been typed up yet and they couldn't hand it over to me even if it was done. I very nicely told them how stressed I was and that I needed to see the actual report. The doctor got the report 2 hours later. Unfortunately, you are going to have to keep bugging them. I started bugging my doctor's office on the 7th day and didn't stop until I got the report in my hand. Good Luck!!0 -
Rekidal--Delays like the one you had, and others are having, are most likely not the fault of the doctor or the hospital or lab, but are caused by your insurance company and/or the type of coverage you have with them. When a hospital in MA has to send path specimens to TN and WA for study, it surely isn't because there are no labs in MA! This is why we really need health insurance reform in this country.
