Sweet momma J, I would not worry about a "flip flop". I have a very benign case of mitral valve prolapse so I experience those flip flops fairly regularly. In talking to my cardiologist, it is very normal for a heart to have that. It could be due to dehydration, anxiety, stress or it just beat a little too quickly or too late.

I have my Lx tomorrow. I got my locater chip Put in today. No pain or discomfort from the procedure which is great. Now, I'm just running around like a crazy person today trying to get everything organized before I'm recuperating :)

Octogirl, sorry that your tumor was larger than anticipated. I, too, hope you get an amazingly low Oncotype score! Re: chemo. One of our gals wasn't "outed" on chemo until she'd have several rounds. Yes, she lost her hair. But she's a bicyclist and they thought she had a new cut as part of her biking! A co-worker (male) whose wife had gone through chemo, asked her how she was doing with chemo. Out of the closet.

If you do need chemo, go to the chemo boards. No one claims it is a piece of cake but the gals say it is doable. And remember, the point of all this is to KILL CANCER! Whenever things get rough, remind yourself of that. Hopefully, you won't need chemo!!!

BTW, how old are you? I'm 70. I ask because you mentioned continuing to dive until your mid-70s.

    HUGS!!!!

Yep, we will be with you tomorrow! July 23 is an excellent day to kick cancer in the butt!

Hugs to all of my lumpy friends!

I'm one of the ones who went through chemo. Let me know if you have questions about it.

Welcome sweetmammaj and octogirl!  I'm also a fellow diver.  Just returned from a trip to Cozumel.  Didn't dive this trip because my niece (non-diver) was with me.  My hubby and daughter dove Palicar and San Fransisco.

I know both of you just recently had lx.  Hang in there it gets so much better over time and once all the treatments are done.

    Hi octogirl,

I am a diver too! Was certified in 1991! Heading to Mexico to n March for hubby's 50th birthday.

Nash, where do you stay in Cozumel? I have been to the Blue Angel twice and love love love it!

Hang in there , the waiting is the worst part. I'll pray for a low oncotype score!!!

Thank you Peggy and Poppy! I like the idea of having a couple veteran 23rders in my pocket!

Hi Midgiemoon....we've stayed at Occidental Grand twice.  It's an all-inclusive.   Looking for a new place to try.  Will have to check out the Blue Angel.  Occidental is further out of town and closer to diving sites.  They have a dive shop on the premise.  Food is so-so.  Have to avoid sales pitches for time shares.

Maybe you guys could start a SCUBA thread on the board? It would be a great way to share your knowledge and experiences. (I'm not saying I don't enjoy reading about it in your posts.) My DH and 2 of my boys dive. They were certified in the Florida keys. They've also dived off Maui. One was a night dive.

Oh, Plumster1, I love that name "23rders." What do you think, Poppy? And to add 2 more at one time! We're definitely with you!

    Hi All -

Welcome to all the newer posters here. Even though it was a crappy turn of luck that landed us all here, together we have made it a more positive experience. This is a great group of women. There is never any fear of asking any questions here. I am sure that someone will always try to point people in the right direction.

Last night (Monday) my medical center called to schedule my first ever colonoscopy, for September. I asked what date they had available. It turns out to be the 30th. I said," no way in hell! I am not celebrating my first Anniversary by having a colonoscopy" Try again! Guess you had to be there.

MarieBernice, I totally get that! I had my first colonoscopy exactly one year before my Lx. It came well. So I'm counting July 23rd as a bringer of positive news.

    HUGS!

welcome sweetmamaj! Looks like you are in my boat with a small tumor. A good thing!

Midge I am so sorry to hear about the blistering, but congrats on being 1/3 through rads! Have they given you any cream to help?

123 my incision is about 2inches and they took 2 nodes.

Octo chemo is not too terrible. They can do amazing things to control side effects. I am working full time with two small kids at home and a two hour commute round trip. And while my hair is falling out, on my regimen it might not fall out completely. I'm halfway through chemo and while I cut my hAir short, it's still there, just wayyyy thinner.

thanks for the words of encouragement about the chemo all....have to wait and see but I do appreciate the support and everyone's willingness to answer questions. I mean, no one said this would be a walk in the park, right?

Peggy, I am 61. EDITED: I said something about barely old enough for this board....I was confused about where I was. Forgive me all for that, it's been a long day.

Nice idea about a scuba thread. will think about it when I get past this focused on treatment phase. But one more scuba note for all the divers out there: I stay at Scuba Club Cozumel: it's low key, casual, very geared to divers, decent food, very nice dive operation. Suits me.

And will be thinking good thoughts for the surgeries tomorrow!

    MarieBernice,

While I think colonoscopies are no big deal--I have Crohns and have had over 20- you are right- wait a few months at least.

My GI called and said it was time for my biannual colonoscopy, and I said call me back in a few month. After this past year, that is the last thing that I feel like doing. It's pretty routine for me, and I always think of it as a good nap. I don't use an rx prep, just use the gatorade prep. It's the easiest one there is. Just be sure to stop eating, and drink only liquids 36 hours before the prep. If anyone has questions, or needs tips, ask me. I am a veteran at this, having Crohns for 28 years.

And also, someone in the thread was asking about bras, I found some at Target, they are stretchy sport bars, the plain, over the head ones. I am a D cup, and they are fine for sleeping and everyday. For exercise I use a moving comfort bar, I also used this bra after surgery, and my surgeon really like it. It has straps that adjust in the from with velcro. Here is a link:

Hello all and welcome to the newbies and prayers and best wishes to those having surgery. I wanted to mention that the hopkins affiliated hospital I had my lumpectomy at gave all of us who had the surgery a similar heart shaped pillow. They were made by volunteers and mine was well used; also just reminded me of others caring and kindness.

Plumster and Octogirl sending positive vibes for your surgeries tomorrow.   You'll be home and resting before you know it.   Take good care of yourselves and be sure to ice the area to keep the swelling down.

Tresjoli2 -- good to hear you are getting through chemo OK. Good luck with keeping the hair!

Sweetmamaj -- welcome to this board and thread. I love the information and support the people on this board give.

    --

My SNB incision is closer to 1" and I had 2 nodes taken.

Heart palpitations... I get them sometimes, but mostly from too much caffeine. I didn't get them at any time before surgery, although I wouldn't be surprised if people do.

I did neoadjuvent chemo. It was no fun, but do-able. The hair thing is a bummer (nothing says "cancer" like having a bald head... and body!), but I found the other worries that chemo caused mostly kept my mind off that. I've got less than an inch of fuzz now... it's kind of fun running my fingers over it! And I discovered my head didn't look as lumpy and odd as I thought it would without hair.

Octogirl, you're quite allowed to be confused as to where you are! We are all of us a bit ditzy.

No, no one said it would be a walk in the park. But most of us have found that we have an inner strength we didn't know was there as we navigate this journey. We all seem to manage.

    Take care and heal quickly!

    HUGS!

    Hi Ladies,

I found a great way to add a little extra coverage in a bathing suit. It also works to hold drains in place, to wear during intimacy or just to cover s little "Something" in a bathing suit. You can see all the ways to wear it at www.bwell11.com.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! BS says that by the naked eye everything looked good by the naked eye including the nodes but of course need to wait for the final path report which means more waiting. {heavy sigh}. All in all feeling blessed!

123JustMe, Very encouraging! Isn't it nice to have it over? Just nice to get it out! Now take it easy, don't do any lifting with your left arm for awhile. Be sure to do the exercises!

Give your body a chance to heal! You are now officially a 23rder!

    HUGS!
