Dearest Lumpy Friends, Both sons are now in town and the oldest got to see and talk to his dad tonight! Apparently they actually did some talking. DH has been barely breathing words and very difficult to understand if you don't know what he might be saying. He's sleeping a lot though he has opened his eyes and actually seen us. He is very calm. He's still get a plain saline IV. Today was the first time he hadn't been able to even try and swallow his Parkinson's pills. Yesterday he could.
Tomorrow they will deactivate his pacemaker/defibrillator and I would guess it won't be very long after that. He's ready. Not only is the hospice nurse great but so is the entire staff on DH's floor at the hospital. I'm so impressed. First time we've used this hospital and even then only because the nursing home sent him there.
It's nice to have the boys here and the wives will come in later this week. So lots of support. I think we'll have a lot of happy moments in the next few days remembering DH and all the good times and just the kids and me being together.
Thank you all for your warm words. I haven't felt up to responding to each of you but I've read them all and appreciate them so. I'm blessed.
HUGS!!!

Peggy.. thanks so much for checking in....I am so happy to hear that your sons are both there and DILs coming too. I am sure you will have both happy and weepy times, but you will be together and appreciate the chance to share your stories. Will keep you in my thoughts, as I know we all will. We will be here; you are an amazing woman who has done so much for all of us.
Tonight, take a moment if you can to step outside. If you do you will hear coming from all directions and corners of the country and who knows how many states, the same call: all of us, saying together to you:
HUGS!!!!!

Peggy, sending more and more Hugs to you and your family.
BJclaywell, sorry to hear about that stitch-it sounds painful! Hope your bs can offer some relief.
BGardenia, please keep us posted when you find out your sx date.
Outrunning, Yay and Congrats! that is great news! So happy for you
MLP, hope for good news with hem-onc! Any word about bleeding/platelet tests? Plumster is right: you and Ringelle are the seroma twins! But at least it sounds like you both are getting some relief.
HUGS to all, especially to you, Dear Peggy.

Outrunning prayers for you tomorrow. Mlp, I hope you have a positive conversation with your doctor on Friday. My seromas were removed with my umx and now my new drain is giving me problems. Ugh.

Aw, Octogirl, thank you. I did hear you all saying HUGS when I was outside. I need them.
Thanks, SweetMama!
HUGS back at ya!

Peggy, yes, thank you for taking the time to update us with bittersweet news. I loved Octo's sentiment and would love to see you do just that--take a few moments outside, breathe deep, and feel the support and hugs enveloping you from all corners. So glad both sons are there. Praying for a peaceful transition surrounded by a loving family.

Peggy: not sure what to add, except that I'm so glad both your sons got there in time...to...what? not just say goodbye. Say something, anything, before it's too late.

Peggy, so glad to hear your sons are both with you and DH. It must be a comfort to have them with you.
Outrunner, wishing you the best tomorrow!

Peggy I hope this time is full of sweet memories for all of you and a chance to allow your son's to tell their dad how much he means to them.

Echoing Molly's sentiments Peggy. Your family is in my prayers.
Thinking of and prayed for the surgery sisters today also.

Oh, Peggy, don't worry about responding to our posts. You need to be with your family at this time. It sounds like your husband's time indeed may be short. I'm glad the daughters-in-law are coming to give more support and I hope that will be good for you.
I think hospice nurses are a breed apart. My dad had hospice at the end of his life and I think they actually helped us girls more than they helped my dad (which is saying a LOT.)

Outrunning - thinking of you today! Let us know how you are when you feel up to it!

Peggy-sending so much love and prayers your way. mustlovepoodles is right. Do not worry about answering us individually.
Molly- sorry about the drain trouble. What does the doc plan to do about it?Everything went well. Surgery at 10. Amazingly I was released at about 1:30. I've spent the afternoon napping and sipping chicken broth. Nap was disturbed with waves of nausea but I never actually got sick so I'm happy about that. Just graduated to nutrigrain bar.
The quick pathology today showed clear lymph nodes. No need to do anything beyond the two she sampled. That means no drain and I'm thrilled about that.
The wire placement was kind of a bizarre experience. I had avoided the face-down table so far. First biopsy was chair and the second ultrasound. Because it was both sides it took awhile. And Doc had to do right side twice because I flinched and caused the wire to move.
They didn't warn me that my pee is going to look like toilet bowl cleaner from the lymph node contrast stuff. Cyan blue. Wow. I actually made my husband come look. He freaks him out that one of the supplements we take makes your pee really bright yellow. This was in a whole other category.
Hospice nurses are amazing. The doula I used for my son's birth became a hospice nurse, and ended up caring for a dear friend of mine. She's simply fabulous.0 -
still thinking of you today, Peggy!
Outrunning, yay and doing a happy dance for you for clear nodes. Glad it went so well...I was warned about the toilet bowl cleaner thing, fortunately...
I started chemo today, first round in the books. 25% done, yay. So far, so good, I feel fine...check with me in a few days, and we shall see. But really it was mostly boring. I love boring right now.
HUGS!!!! (just filling in for Dear, Dear Peggy although I could never fill her shoes...)

Peggy, I'm so sorry about your DH but I'm happy that your boys are there with both of you. Sending lots and lots of hugs and prayers your way!
Outrunning, that is awesome about your pathology report and I'm so glad that your surgery went well. I hated the entire wire process, I only had it done on one side, I can't imagine having it done on both and then a second time on one side. I'm sorry, but I had to laugh your remark about the contrast stuff and shame on them for not telling you, I had about 5 people tell me about it and then they reminded me again before I left the hospital. I had to wonder if someone freaked out about it at one time or another. Relax and get plenty of rest this week.

Outrunning - Yay for the initial path results on the nodes! Also, just so you know - when they put my wires in, I told them I felt like I had curb feelers. Of course, they taped them up until later, but I really did feel like I had curb feelers. LOL As for the cyan pee - my BS doesn't use dye anymore. He said too many people were having reactions, and now they do radioactive stuff - and use a machine (not unlike a geigercounter) to figure out which node(s) to take. He said my one sentinel node lit up like a Christmas tree.
But - so glad you are feeling well. Take it easy for a day or two. I thought I was feeling great, but the second day after running around and doing my normal stuff, I kind of hit a wall for a day. I was exhausted.
Octogirl - glad you are feeling okay. Keep us posted on how it is going...

Outrunning, wonderful that you are doing so good! Great news.
DH had his defibrillator turned off this noon. When I told him he could let go when he was ready, he said he wasn't "quite ready yet." Which is fine. It's his decision. But his breathing is more shallow and sometimes the breaths are further apart than normal. Thank heavens for my sons. They are fantastic! Definite keepers!
HUGS
P.S. Octogirl, thanks for covering!!

Pegg,
I'm so sorry but glad you are in the embrace of your family and your "other family" here at bc.org. You've always been so kind to everyone here and I know I'm grateful for all the advice and help you've given me. Thinking of you tonight

Peggy, I am so thankful your DH is able to make his own decisions. It must free you up to enjoy the sweet moments and memories as a family. I am thinking about you all the time.
Outrunning good news on the lymph nodes! I had 3 wires placed. I have never spent so much time with my breast smooshed in a mammogram machine.
Hugs to everyone.

Octogirl sending you hugs and prayers for your chemo. I hope you have little to no SE's.
I see the BS tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully she can figure out what is going on with the drain. Right now I am just stripping it regularly to get the fluid out. I am finally getting used to how my missing leftie looks. I wanted to cry at first but now it just is. I think losing my nipple was a bit tougher.
