Whoever came up with that analogy (herding cats), was spot on for so many situations and I gather your lil skaters are one!

I got a post op bra from the Women's boutique at the hospital. It's made by Amole and is very soft and  very comfortable. My insurance will pay for up to 6 post op mastectomy bras. They open in front and are just so much more comfortable. I thought I was in heaven when I switched over. I got my stitches out today and BS said they would call with next surgery date and MO appointment. RO appointment after next surgery. He litterly yanked my stitches out and then said that shouldn't hurt as he went over and put more steri strips back on under my arm. I just said Oh really...

Nancy - OUCH! Fast is best :) yippee insurance pays for bras...mine does the chick fillet I tuck under my girl:) glad you are moving forward with all your appts...press on!

Nancy, that was certainly very unkind of your BS to just yank the stitches out and discount how uncomfortable (understatement) you were.  My steri-strips are still on my bad girl incision.  Fell off the SNB site a couple days ago.  Never had external stitches that I know of..

Cindy, I went to a bra today for my MO appointment. I felt better.  More uncomfortable when it rode up but better most of the time.  He said I'm still quite swollen and here I thought I was doing good with a few lumps around the site.

But let me tell you one.  Actually shave my poor SNB underarm last night using the bathroom mirror so I could see (can't feel much there).  That went fine but I accidentally hit my nipple with the non-business end of the razor.  OMG!  That felt crappy.  I hadn't looked real good and apparently my incision goes up to or maybe even into the nipple.  Huge OOPS! :(

Thank you Puffin and Canuck-- Time does heal and when I look back it all seems a blur. Well that might be that I was taking Ativan during part of it!! HEHEHE..

I go in for my first ever breast MRI next week and am a bit scared of the whole tunnel thing. I do still have some of those loopy drugs but hate taking them as I get soooo sleepy and need to hang around the town where the cancer center is( 2 hours one way)  so that I can see the oncologist to discuss what the MRI saw / I am hoping nothing. Took me a year to get this MRI and now I am scared of it!! go figure!! ha ha

My MRI went smoothly. I was rather comfy on the little table thing.. like face down for a massage. The IV was in, they gave me a little panic "bulb" to squeeze if I needed out. They let me pick my music.. so I picked 80s.  headphones on and in I went. The whole "dont move" thing makes it worse cause thats when your nose itches, have to cough , etc. So I got myself a little worked up once I was inside... had to refocus and listen to the songs. now the machine is loud.. not dentist drill loud ..more like a car with a lot of bass. I would hear a song..sing in my head..machine would thump thump thump .. Id keep playing the song in my head.. so when the machine stopped Id see if I had remembered all the words and was on cue with the song in the headphones. the table vibrates... in rhythmic style.. disturbingly soothing. Hardest part was not dancing /wiggling to the 80s tunes. not so bad actually.  being these seem to be on my 6/6 method..glad I didnt mind it. I hope that helps you a bit :)

Re-excision date Sept 10 at 130pm. Long Day :) Get to finally meet my MO next Wed. Any suggestions on what I need to ask? I am nervous about all of this. Up to this point all it was for me was surgery, now I am going back for more surgery hoping they will get it all this time and get to talk to my MO about treatment. Radiation 4-6 weeks after surgery is what BS told me. He also said I was on the boarderline for needing chemo but said I didnt need it. That makes me nervous as well. I have had a lot of cancer in my family. My grandmother had breast and ovarian, my aunt on my dads side had ovarian and cervical ca, my dad had small bowel ca, my dads twin had lung ca, my nephew had bone ca, my daughter had skin ca and so did my moms sister.  It just scares me that all I am having is a lumpectomy, radiation and tamoxifen. Dont get me wrong I am thankful for what ever I dont have to go through. I just want to make sure this doesnt come back or come back with a vengance.

Nancy, did they run an oncotype on your cancer?  I can see why you would be leery of not having chemo with your family history.  Does your surgeon know it?  Ask your MO. Then weigh everyone's opinion and go with your gut.  I do feel for you having to go through another surgery - that's a bummer.  Have you had genetic testing?  That might be something to consider.

I just met my MO yesterday.  I believe he is the one who would make the recommendation for chemo.  My BS and RO can't imagine why I'd need chemo but we're waiting for the oncotype results (next week).  My RO also thinks I should not get chemo even if my score is higher.  My cancer was very very small (9mm) and he feels radiation and femara/arimidex will do the trick.  So something to think on.  I'll ask my BS tomorrow her opinion.

My RO got me all set up today to do my rads starting the 2nd.  What was interesting was I thought the tattoos would be in a triangle around my bad girl.  Nope.  One on each side and one in the middle below my breasts near the bottom of my rib cage.  No big deal.

    Nancy, I'm thinking of you!

ndgrll: I live in Fargo, we're neighbors! My MRI went fine too, kind of different laying face down with the boob hanging down thru a hole in the table. I wore the ear muffs to deaden the noise.

I had an MRI before my lumpie.  My back was killing me by the time it was over.  As lacking as I am in the boob department I'm surprised they could even "see" them :)  They put a headset on me too, Puffin.

Panthrah, I wanted to take deep breaths during that time when you can't do anything after they give the dye in the IV.  I found that challenging.  Not "dancing" to the music is challenging.

Hi my friend Peggy, I did have the onco test and the BS just told me it was boarderline.  I also did have genetic testing just waiting for results which wont be back until Oct. The BS knows my history but I am going to really discuss it more with my MO on Wed and see what he thinks. Thank you my friend for your support.

When I had my breast MRI they just put those dumb yellow plugs in my ears. I wish they would have done music and headphones.

Nancy, I'm glad you got genetic testing.  I hadn't thought about it taking so long to get the results.  But they could help you make that hard decision to have chemo or not.  No one wants chemo.  But no one wants their cancer to come back either.  If you know your oncotype score, you might consider posting it.  You must be going crazy trying to decide what to do  I know I would.  I'm here for you, as we all are.  Sitting in that pocket, weighing it down with lots of love.  HUGS!!!

I wish I did know it. All BS said was it was boarder line and he didnt think I did need chemo, but I see my MO finally next Wed so I am going to have him go over everything again, ask for a copy and then ask his opinion.  Thank you for the much needed HUGS!!

Thanks for the advice about the MRI. Not sure why I didn't get one sooner but at least I am getting one now. I also hope they give me headphones so I can listen to the music.  How long does an MRI take?

Hi Near Neighbor Puffin :)  There are a few of us NDaks on here :)

Ncollett- I was also borderline with my onco test and they suggested I not have chemo.  Your MO should give you a copy and explain the test to you. I asked my 2nd one to do that for me. My first Oncologist just said I didn't need chemo and went on his way. I was so frustrated as I wanted to know.

Mine took about 30 mins or so but its broken up by "this will take 2 min" " this one will be 7 min" etc.. then poof its done

Nancy, all your oncologists should be giving you copies of every single report.  (Quite a change from my PCP who will if I ask but doesn't routinely).  Please do talk with your MO (hope you like him/her).  And be sure to mention your concerns (got your list of questions ready?).  Don't you hate waiting?  I sure do.  I just want to get everything done and over with.  More HUGS!!

Thanks Peggy. My BS didnt give me any copies of anything. He goes over them but is very busy and quick so I feel like I dont have time to stop him and ask what I want to. I do like him though. I will get some questions ready for my MO for sure.

Please ladies get hard copies of everything. Lab reports, everything . They belong to you.DO NOT let them hurry you.  You paid for them . I carry them with me in case they do not get sent to the next dr. In a timely manner.

Nancy, SailingWind is right.  Get the hard copy of any report.  I also find that if I have my questions written down and plainly visible to my doctor, usually he/she will usually take the time to answer them.  But I have to have them out and ready to ask.  Never let any doctor hurry you.  I'm glad you like your BS but stand up for yourself and get the time due to you so you can get answers. HUGS!!!

    Good girl, Nancy!

Puffin, I'm from Michigan.  My grandmother lived in Dakota back about 1910, ranching (and her hubby was useless as a farmer).  They lost everything and returned to Iowa.  But I gather it was quite the experience.  I would think the Dakotas are lots nicer now :)

    Ladies,

Check with your Drs.  My MO has a place on line that I can go to for reports after each visit to him.  I save them to the computer and print off what I want.
