thank you BevJen for the update.

I am not usually someone who thinks about this much but could Nicole try some CBD for pain management? I live in WA where everything is legal and cancer patients say it really helps. I have never tried it but am trying to think outside the box. There are many products that don’t make you high as that component has been removed.

anyone have some goood recipes for when you just aren’t interested in eating? I have been dealing with some joint pain which keeps me from being as active as I’d like to be and have no appetite. I’ve lost about 20 lbs. I am going to PT snd have appointments with a rehabilitation specialist who Devoted her practice to cancer patients. I am looking for a way to fuel my body to gain strength even when food doesn’t interest me.

    Ideas?

Left Foot, good old chicken soup with veggies and rice is one of your best bets, because the broth is so nutrient-rich, even if you don't make it from scratch. It's nourishing and easy to make and eat. It also freezes well. I too lost a lot of weight over several months, because of lack of appetite and just had to force myself to eat a little something a few times a day.

I don't use a recipe but if you Google easy chicken soup recipes, you'll find plenty, and they won't take all day to make. In addition to Rice I like to add frozen pearl onions lots of garlic parsley carrots and celery.

I hope your appetite picks back up; mine finally did.

lff, I despise cooking ... for nutrient & calorie. dense, goes down easy I turn to peanut butter sandwiches. I use those breads with tons of seeds and grains for extra nutrition.

Pudding and protein smoothies/ shakes are my other go to. I'm vegan so all my stuff is pea protein or tofu based. Pasta is a calorie dense.

I can't really taste much so I do force myself to eat a lot of times.

BevJen, thanks for the update about Nicole's scan results. Glad her treatment is working.

I had been on Doxil in Dec2020. After 3 weeks I had a reaction ( hand-foot syndrome) and have been on steroids.

PET scan results show decreased tumor activity in bones and liver. I am so relieved that Doxil was working. Now my oncologist wants to keep me on anthracycline (Adriamycin- orIginal one without pegylated Liposome). Hoping this one works and there are minimal SEs. Adriamycin doesn't cause hand-foot syndrome.

S3K5, I was on Adriamycin, 3 weeks on and 1 week off, for 11 months. I felt great the entire time and had no SEs other than hair loss. I hope it treats you well and knocks out those mets.

    Hugs and prayers from, Lynne

What a relief for Nicole. Now, if the pain could become manageable.

On Monday I was able to move forward. I went wig shopping. On Tuesday I found one I love. I’ll try to post a pic. I had to order the color I won’t get it till Tuesday.

I got chemo yesterday. My magnesium was low again so I got IV of magnesium.

Today I was able to get my second vaccine. I wonder what is in store for me. Chemo one day, shot the next. I’ll let you know.

    All,

Nicole just called me. She is in the hospital again. She was in excruciating pain and went back to the hospital. They have discovered a stone in her bile duct, and she's meeting with the surgical team in about an hour. (It's about 6:40 on the east coast as I'm writing this.)

Has anyone on here had anything like this? Do you have any suggestions about what she should ask the docs? You can post here or PM me. Please pray for her -- she is very scared at this point.

    Candy,

biliary duct stone is what she was told. I don't think (but I don't know) that it's in her liver, but she's worried because of all of the stuff she's been going through.

Bev Gen- no advice for Nicole just hoping this biliary duct issue gets resolved and stops the pain.

    Grannax2- very cool wig!

BevJen, it sounds like a gallstone which can be extremely painful. They may be able to blast it with sonic waves. Interestingly, in my recent scan with my liver mets diagnosis they specifically mention calcifications, sizes and the size of the biliary duct. I asked a doctor friend and she thought they were looking for gallstones (and possible blockages) rather than commenting on mets.

    Hope she gets relief soon.

I don’t have liver mets and can’t imagine what Nicole is going through. She is one heck of a tough cookie. I may be climbing on rainbows here, but would it be too much to hope that the stone in her bile duct could be surgically removed, and that it be the source of all the pain she’s experiencing so that once it’s gone, she could truly be pain free. I pray that such an outcome would happen for her,

BevJen, I will send a short PM to Nicole, but she may be in no condition to check into the forum. Please let her know I have her in my thoughts. I’m glad you are able to keep in touch with her. Many hugs to you both.

BevJen, For Nicole, I would only have the obvious question of what can be done to get rid of the stone. By now maybe she’s already underway in some kind of treatment.

Grannax, Beautiful wig. I hope you feel good wearing it

BevJen, thanks for the update on Nicole. If she has a biliary stone, no wonder she's been in such pain. I'm pretty sure it's ShetlandPony who's had a couple biliary stents, maybe she's already pm'd you. I'm late seeing this, and like Rosie24, imagine Nicole's already having some kind of treatment. I wish her well and hope whatever is done that it solves her pain issue.

Grannax, nice wig! Wear it proudly.

interventions for bile duct stones are very common , many people go through them and as far as I know are not associated with any particularly high risk of complications. Nothing comparative in seriousness to MBC. Good that the doctors seem to have found the reason for pain finally !

Poor Nicole, no wonder she keeps having severe pain! I hope this is resolved as quickly as possible; she has been through so much and deserves a little rest and celebration of her good PET news.

    Grannax, I love that wig!

    S3K5, rock on!!!

I hope zapping or removing this stone resolve Nicole’s pain! Quite possibly the source! She has been through enough and needs some peace and her body needs rest from all this. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

    Beautiful wig Grannax!

I had sand in gallblader for some time, when I had liver resection for my liver met, I have asked to remove whole gallblader and they did. Surgeon was able to do whole operation laparoscopically: liver met, gallblader and also ovaries in addition. There was no problem afterwards, I had very good reconvalesce, it was more than three years ago. May be thay can do laparoscopic removal of gallblader for Nicole as well

Thanks, Maaki. Apparently last evening the surgeon re-looked at her scans and said she had no stone -- that it was sludge. So I find it interesting that yours developed after a different liver treatment, since she's recently had her y90 treatment.

They haven't treated her yet -- they admitted her last evening. I will update all when I hear more.

BevJen Shetland has the most experienc with bile duct stents. Hopefully that could help Nicole.

Since I usually wear my hair up, I hope I can figure out how to put the back of the wig up.

So far, my arm is hurting more than the first shot but I don't have any other SE. No more than usual for the day after chemotherapy.

BevJen, actually mine was sludge as well, I did not know correct term in english. I think it developed after chemotherapy I had for stage 1 in 2013. Did not have it before. It did not cause me a problem, may be a little bit. But when I went for liver resection in 2017, I just mentioned it and the surgeon said he will take gallbladder out because with the liver operation it can cause more harm in future and than it can be bigger problem. I was lucky I could get all with laparoscopy. So it could develop to Nicole with the chemo treatment, and inflamation after Y90 could exarcebate problems. With the sludge one can have chronic or acute inflamation of the gallblader
