    Loving the pretty lilies.

Thanks Scottie. I am finally finishing up getting my yard and garden the way I want it and now will jump in on my photography after a couple of contractors come and get some work done for me, I am taking a photoshop class in July and possibly another nature workshop, Hope you got some good firework pics and enjoyed the movie. Sounds like a fun evening.

Lisa, what a precious little duckling. I could watch those little ones all day. They are so cute.

Lisa, I posted a video on the Bird Watching thread that you might be interested in regarding hummingbirds. It is taken from a hummingbird festival and this is the nature center near my mom's that I get my hummingbird pics from. Some of my pics I posted recently on there of the hummers that I got in May.

Yes, those little ducklings are usually on the go. Is that the same one as the pic of the one in the flowers. So cute.

This is the first chance I have had to go shooting other than my own yard for a month. It was a fabulous day with perfect weather after some hot and humid days. I was hoping the butterflies would be there where i had found them last year but those particular flowers were not in bloom yet. I did get some flowers instead.

What beautiful flowers, the colors are so vibrant. I don't think I've ever seen a bee that close up before. Amazing!

The morning sun catching the steam rising up from my neighbor's lake.

Thank you Lori. You will laugh when you hear that I am scared to death of bees. Honey bees are a little easier for me but bumblebees much harder even though I started photographing them last summer for the first time. I spent as much time running as I did shooting. LOL

Love the steam off the Lak pic. After getting up at 4 am the last ten years of my teaching career I am making up for it now as I am a night owl and definitely not a morning person. So I have never photographed steam like that. Makes me want to get out there some day and try............or not! LOL

You're doing a FAB job with your macro lens bandwoman!!!! And as for bees, I love them!!! They die when they sting you - it's a last resort for them. Wasps can do it all day long so they're a bit more aggressive. So I've always had a soft spot for bees....

I love the macro.shots. You are making me wish i had one. I really enjoyed the steam on the lake. I never see that in Southern California.

This is as close as I get to bees.

I don't like bees very much. I think I've just been stung to many times lol

Another beautiful shot of bees. I love it!!

Are you out in the country, Lori?

  • WenchLori

    Good morning everyone!

Lisa, yes, we are out in the country surrounded by woods. Each property has their own ponds/lakes and they are connected to the next pond/lake. As our lake rises it drains off thru culverts into the neighbor's pond/lake, this keeps our properties from flooding. It's a pretty ingenious way to help thy neighbor and was set up way back in the day.

As you can see in my picture I put out salt blocks for the deer. When our grandchildren come to visit we'll also put out corn so the deer will hang out a little longer.

Wild turkeys will wander thru our yard on their way to the next farm. I was cleaning the living quarters to my horse trailer and a turkey actually walked up and stuck it's head in the door. I was on the phone with my DDIL so I wasn't able to get a picture fast enough.

My DH calls me the stray cat lady, the raccoon lady, deer lady, possum lady etc

    Smile

Barbe, thanks. The blue was my pool.

Thanks Barbe. I am using a tripod with a remote trigger and now. I have bought some hand held diffusers and reflectors to start dealing with the light aspect. I will have to try those out out at home first because it sounds like they are a bear to get back into their little carrying cases.

Lisa, love your bee pic with your pool as the backdrop. Can I borrow that sometime. LOL Love your butterfly. I visited a Butterfly House yesterday with my camera. Oh my was that a experience. The volunteers said the little critters were very active that day. Boy that was an understatement. The smaller butterflies were content to land on the flowers for quite a few seconds but the larger butterflies were a big challenge. I will post some pics maybe later. Very pretty Monarch pic.

Lori, my sister and her husband used to live in the country and they had a terrible time with the deer eating all of their flowers. Sounds like you have a glorious place with lots of wildlife.

My niece and her husband have a 100 acre farm in Iowa even though they are not farmers. They are interested in preserving nature and decided to become bee keepers. They have been taking classes and got their bees before the class to tell them how to start up. LOL I think they are winging it. (Pun intended)

My little neighbor friend and I were in an empty lot next to my house growing up. We got into a bunch of bees in that lot and I got stung several times. I think that is the reason I am so fearful of them.

Lisa, one of these days I will get around to posting some pics of my new tripod and ball head. I really do love this gear. It is so versatile and I can get very low to the ground and it has a gimble head feature where I can move the camera into a portrait position besides landscape. That has come in handy when I love standing on my head to take a pic!

Tried out my new reflector tonight on my patio. When I opened it up out of the bag for the first time it scared me to death. It was like an airbag deploying. I don't know how much of a difference it made because the sun was going down but it may have done something. Those are the things I would have to actually record on paper to be able to tell the difference. Here are a couple of shots. The first one is a tropical hibiscus. I love the two toned color it has. The second one is a red begonia and it is so very difficult to get a good picture of it and I am not really sure why. Some of the leaves are iridescent and it makes it so much more difficult than a rose.

I posted a thank you last night and it has disappeared. Thank you for your nice comments Joanne and Lisa. I would love to go back to this place as it was so full of people. It was fun watching all the little kids get so excited seeing all the beautiful butterflies. I had one land on my hand and it stayed there for a very long time. Not possible to get a pic of that with one handed shooting with my gear. They get their stock (not sure if that is the proper word) from Florida so it was fun to see butterflies I had never seen other than in pics before.

    Have a great weekend.

I am stuck with my monarchs. The best part is that they are right outside my bedroom window. 😊
