Finally feeling "normal," (pre-chemo/post mastectomy normal, anyway) for the first time in a week! So grateful these treatments are only every 3 weeks

Tomorrow is the final one (#17)! Have another Echo, port access, see my MO and the last T-DM1 infusion. Have already asked the chemo nurse group to let me just leave quietly, no fuss, no farewell songs... A very different feeling as compared to the end of radiation treatment.

I totally get that. Best wishes and congrats

4th rad today. Feeling great maybe because my tdm1 was delayed 1 week for my cardiology consult. All was good except my bp has risen on tdm1 as well as my heart rate. So I am on metoprolol, a beta blocker.

Did not realize you could get a "deviation" in treatment from the trial

  • MaggieCat
    MaggieCat Member Posts: 315

Wabals, Yes, deviations are available and seem to be more common than you would think. I was 3 days delayed last cycle and did enjoy the extra time!

    wabals Member Posts: 192

Maggie 3 days is not considered a deviation I found out. There is always a 3 day leeway in treatment. I plan to use it when we go to Fl. For the winter

I had 25 treatments because the tumor was grade three, so maybe grade is a factor. Had my "boost" at the time of my lumpectomy: 35 minutes of interoperative radiation treatment on the table.

By the way, billing was trying to charge me $1200 for part of the IORT that was coded wrong. The RO's office is filing an appeal, so I'm slowly learning about all this.

Best wishes to you both during this part of your treatment. You are soldiering through an important stage that will be over soon. You rock!

Maggie and all-- On the trial, deviation was my middle name! ;-)

3 weeks rads done! Just one more to go - will be done next Wednesday. I had infusion #6 yesterday too. I'm definitely worn out but don't feel too horrible. My radiated breast is very pink but not too bothersome; occasional itching. Will be so happy when radiation is over; hopefully downhill from there.

Maggie - congrats! I hope you are feeling good about being done! I know you didn't want a fuss, but I hope you are treating yourself to some well-deserved treat of some kind.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

File this as done... done... done!!!!!! 11/20/2015... If you look at the start of this thread, I asked the question 11/21/2014... thought it would never come to an end, and here it is..... Maggie

Maggie--WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!! Here's something to look forward to: I finished the trial Sept. 2014. Yesterday an old friend texted me and asked "how's your health?" I thought, "What's she talking about? Oh yeah...." But the question seemed absurd to me!

For those also on the triple pos thread, I apologize for the repeated message!

A belated but but heartfelt Thankyou to all those congratulating me on finishing the year of Herceptin!

I couldn't quite imagine getting here when I started, but here I am. Like so many much anticipated life transitions, there is no dramatic change that happens. It is the little things, like scheduling a vacation without factoring in medical appts or driving by the lab knowing my veins are not going to be stabbed in the near future. I also like being asked how I am doing just like someone would ask anybody else, without that very worried and pained look in their eyes. And I can wear my seatbelt without a port that always hurt!

I wish all of you in/starting treatment the patience with yourself and others that gets you through! I'm here cheering you on

Maggie, congrats to you too!!! And you don't even have to deal with the SE of 5 years of hormone sucking drugs!

You have been a much appreciated companion this past year, I hope you will stay in touch every so often! To you, and any of our crew here, should you find yourself in/ near San Francisco, PM me. I'd love to meet in person!

I seem to be the only Taxol arm person to have stuck with this thread, so I probably won't chime in too often any more, my experience not being that relevant to the rest of you. I will certainly keep you on my favorites list though and be cheering you on if only in spirit

Johara - Please stay linked into the thread! You have provided amazing support to those that have considered the trial (and needed to know both study arms were a "win"). Have to say I have mixed thoughts on the lack of "5 years of HR therapy" in my case. BC sucks, just plain sucks... that said, having multiple mechanisms to shut things down is somewhat a blessing. I won't know personally about the downsides of the different hormone suppressing agents since that avenue doesn't offer anything for me. Will let you know in advance our next SF trip.... Can't wait for the port surgery...Celebrating with you! Maggie

Joharra, congratulations on finishing!! And for sharing your feelings on reaching the end. That certainly seems far off for me. When I tell people my chemo is for a year, no one has ever heard of treatment going on for so long (including me!).

Thank you so much for speaking with me before I made my decision to go with the trial. I am grateful that you took the time to share your experience. Wishing you peace and joy as you move on with your life.

Thanks Serenitysis! Glad I could be of help. I still think, barring a stage 4 dx which I fortunately have not had to experience, the first month or so after dx is by far the worst of it all. Once the dx sunk in and Tx decisions were made, dealing with the day to day treatment effects was really not so awful. And trite as it is, I did indeed learn to appreciate life and love more than ever!

TTFan (Johara) and Maggie, it's worth saying again--job well done. Johara, I like what you say about having patience with oneself and others.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Hi all. 4 weeks of radiation = done! I never thought I'd be so excited about ringing that stinkin' bell! I had two treatments today, so I will say I'm a little tired. My breast is also very red, and a little swollen and irritated. They said the tiredness and the redness could get worse in the next few days, but then it should be better after that, maybe 2-3 weeks for the skin to recover and it could be longer for the fatigue. We'll see. At least I got that out of the way!

    Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Good job Laura! I am halfway thru rads. Had tdm1 and rads Mon. Kind of a rough day but OVER! Having a little nausea and decreased appetite. At least I won't gain weight today! Happy Thanksgiving

Laura, you're done with radiation. YAY! I was wondering how long the recovery time was for the skin to get back to normal. 2-3 weeks isn't bad. Happy Thanksgiving!

happy Thanksgiving everyone! Congratulations to everyone achieving their various treatment milestones, each one so very worth celebrating!

I noticed today on my private messages list that many of the messages I responded to as recently as today and also going back several months, do not have the arrow indicating that I responded. If anyone did not get a response from me, please know I did not ignore you and will happily reply again if you let me know you didn't get a response.

I am having a truly wonderful Thanksgiving this year, I have so very much to be grateful for it is almost overwhelming! I wish the same for all of you, if not yet this year, then surely by next year!

Belated holiday greetings! Turns out that the last infusion was not close enough to being "12 months" to satisfy the 12 month blood sample required for the study. So back one more time 10 days after infusion #17 to have one tube drawn to be sent off to Dana Farber. Back home and have filed all of my paperwork, test results, etc. Took apart the chemo bag... Next week the port is removed. Grateful the year is over .... and to all of you for sharing the journey we are on! Maggie
